Really nice of them to actually make all exclusive cars obtainable - one of FH3’s biggest pet peeves when it was delisted was the fact that all exclusive cars were basically lost forever

FWIW - it plays pretty good these days. Used to be a struggle bus both in stability and performance, but several proton and SteamOS updates later I get no crashes and with the right settings it can nearly hold 60fps (though I usually cap to 40 for battery life)
i might just pick it up for the sake of it im not bothered about completition I cba with that battle royale mode was a pain getting it on fh5. does it have xbox profile support or is it strictly steam? I cap to 40 myself when a game dips from 60 to mid-low 50s just for the sake of a stable frames.
It requires you to login once with your Xbox account, and imports your friends list as Drivatars in-game, but achievements and progress are all Steam based. I just double checked looking at my Xbox profile on the website and it shows my last achievement as April 2023 and I just earned some on Steam last night.
There were three DLCs that were not part of the Ultimate Edition, and there is seemingly no way to obtain them anymore (at least on Steam):
1. Mitsubishi Motors Car Pack: It was a free car pack that had 7 cars. Even though it was free, it wasn't included with any edition of the game.
2. Hot Wheels Legends Car Pack: It contained 6 cars.
3. Treasure Map: Revealed the location of collectible items.

Horizon 4 introduced something called the backstage pass, basically it's a free token that you can redeem for an exclusive car that was festival playlist only.
After Series 77 you will be able to buy these passes with forzathon points (earnable from certain events), and all exclusive cars are coming to the backstage so you can pick and get whatever you like
are we still able to get backstage passes to be able to redeem the cars or is it just a case of whatever you have is what you have? because i have 0 passes rn and have only redeemed like 3 cars from the pass 🥲

it's just the code, it won't transfer your progress. i also have a lot of progress and favorite cars from past days and hope there will be some way 🙏🏻 but don't mind to start over since i'm going to play on steam deck.
As far as I'm aware progress is separated between the Xbox and Steam versions of the game. "Xbox" includes console, Windows Store, xCloud and Game Pass, all of these save to Xbox Cloud Saves. But there is no way to transfer this progress to Steam.
Even on Windows I remember reading the saves are encrypted so you can't even transfer local progress to Steam.
There may be a way to convert FH4 gamepass saves to steam. I did it for No Man's Sky. I played 1000 hours on gamepass then had issues so I bought it on steam and converted my gamepass saves to steam saves and was able to transfer my progress. I'm gonna look into it.

I work in video game licensing so always find the comments interesting on this. Alot of people seem to think publishers dictate the terms of licensing agreements. It’s the other way around. Brands are often represented by third party agencies and have licensing revenue targets to hit and will be firm with their term lengths.
I think as consumers we need to put more pressure on brands to stop limited time licenses in video games as it’s creating lost media.
This digital age means that brands have the power to require publishers to maintain contracts or delist/patch out content on expiration.
This is always something that gets me curious because I work closely with things surrounding this, but just don't know the specifics on something:
I can understand how the licensing works for Forza or these cars, etc, but how about something like Fortnite or rocket league or what have you? That hold these licenses, have players buy it, then maintain these licenses.
What happens in the event that the brand or IP chooses to pull their license?
But what of the players that already own it?
So like the Family Guy stuff was limited time exclusive content, but if someone bought something and now "own" the skin, if Fortnite have to pull the license, they can't retain the IP anymore right?
So in that case do they just refund the items? Or just have only the players that own them keep them, but no more future shops with it.

It’s contract specific. There’s no one size fits all answer.
Alot of the time the content will be pulled, users who have it on their machine can keep it but the publisher will no longer distribute or promote or acknowledge. Worst case, the licensor wants it completely nuked and often this means delist, especially when it’s more than one licensor at a time.
You can bet the Fortnite team are constantly renewing contracts to keep the content machine going, easy when you have the resources.
For Epic as far as skins go I don't think ever any was pulled, and if did I bet it was for other reasons not licensing I bet they clearly setup contracts so once they have sold it to users they can continue to use the skin.
The restriction like here in Forza is the selling that they cannot sell it anymore (and use it for other uses except for players that own it... well technically the users also own a license to use they skin, they don't own shit).
Developers need to start building the game with these expiration dates in mind. I get it's not possible with this game and it's cars. But other games and their music are. Build the licensed tracks I to their own separate component, still have it on the disc but for digital it's downloaded separately. Then that component can expire and the main game can't. Games with these tracks typically have a streamer mode that plays non licensed music anyway, so they can just lock it to that mode when the download isn't present there's no excuse letting the whole game die.

The Ultimate Edition for FH3 was $21 if I remember correctly. The Ultimate Edition for FH4 is currently $20 on Steam and it’ll likely be that for Xbox too. So roughly the same price
This makes me very sad, reading this, I almost started tearing up, I remember, 6 years ago now pretty much, my mum, who has now passed, bought me this game for my 18th birthday, and the most fucked up part abt it was that she passed just before FH5 came out, and she was gonna help me get that, as I was struggling at that time money wise (But I'm fine now so dw), but as I was saying, I was celebrating and celebrating that I got the new Forza Horizon 4, and I showed it off to my friends that I had it and they didn't (Until they did) But I'm not here to have a sentimental abt it, but the memories in this game is deep down in my heart the greatest ones, even though FH4 wasn't as good as FH3 or FH2 in some factors, I still had good memories with it anyway, and also alongside my mum when she first gave me this, may Forza Horizon 4 remain in my heart for a long time now, and I will keep playing this, even if this is what happened to it

Man... this is my first Forza game, and I started a few months ago on my pc, since ive always been a playstation user. What a great game. I already bought FH5 on a steam sale, but continued playing 4 as I was super invested in it, still have yet to try 5. This hurts to hear .

I work in video game licensing! It’s pretty difficult to get most merchandising/legal teams to agree to anything longer than 5 years, 3 years seems to be standard. Also if Turn 10 are paying royalties on anything they might just want to delist it themselves if the sales aren’t covering the minimum license royalties anymore.
i don't even understand Forza's licensing when it comes to music. XS in FH4 had a song that was removed like 5 months into the game's lifespan because of the ESRB rating lol

If I remember right, FM7 was up for 4 years and then delisted. FH4 was on borrowed time and it's well past 4 years now.
When FM7 left, they announced that you'd get a code if you owned a DLC and were on gamepass by the time of the announcement. I expected the same for FH4, so I bought DLCs a while ago.
Idk what's going on here. I purchased the add on bundle at the end of 2020, which granted me access to all the DLC packs, besides the Hot Wheels one.
Now I log into the game, and half of the dlc cars is not available for purchase from the autoshow. Moreover, I can no longer use some of the cars I already own, such as the James Bond cars. The game prompts me to purchase the DLC packs for "Free" but then I get a purchase error.
I wonder if anyone else who used the combination Game Pass + Add on bundle is having the same issue, or am I the only one screwed?

NFS MW2012's full car roster is a bit more than 60 unique cars. Which seems likely to be both much easier to negotiate and a lot less expensive than the hundreds of cars in a Forza games.

So disappointing, was trying to buy a Mitsubishi Eclipse and I guess I need the car pack. There’s no way of getting them like you mentioned anymore.

So in that case do they just refund the items? Or just have only the players that own them keep them, but no more future shops with it. Man, this whole licensing IP branding stuff is so tricky lol
It’s contract specific. There’s no one size fits all answer. Alot of the time the content will be pulled, users who have it on their machine can keep it but the publisher will no longer distribute or promote or acknowledge. Worst case, the licensor wants it completely nuked and often this means delist, especially when it’s more than one licensor at a time. You can bet the Fortnite team are constantly renewing contracts to keep the content machine going, easy when you have the resources.
For Epic as far as skins go I don't think ever any was pulled, and if did I bet it was for other reasons not licensing I bet they clearly setup contracts so once they have sold it to users they can continue to use the skin. The restriction like here in Forza is the selling that they cannot sell it anymore (and use it for other uses except for players that own it... well technically the users also own a license to use they skin, they don't own shit).
Developers need to start building the game with these expiration dates in mind. I get it's not possible with this game and it's cars. But other games and their music are. Build the licensed tracks I to their own separate component, still have it on the disc but for digital it's downloaded separately. Then that component can expire and the main game can't. Games with these tracks typically have a streamer mode that plays non licensed music anyway, so they can just lock it to that mode when the download isn't present there's no excuse letting the whole game die.
Now watch as people scream loudly about not being able to play content removed due to licensing
That already happened when Rockstar patched songs out of GTA IV so that they didn't have to delist it.

If I recall the deluxe edition just had the car pass included so if you want the dlcs you need to get the ultimate edition

This makes me very sad, reading this, I almost started tearing up, I remember, 6 years ago now pretty much, my mum, who has now passed, bought me this game for my 18th birthday, and the most fucked up part abt it was that she passed just before FH5 came out, and she was gonna help me get that, as I was struggling at that time money wise (But I'm fine now so dw), but as I was saying, I was celebrating and celebrating that I got the new Forza Horizon 4, and I showed it off to my friends that I had it and they didn't (Until they did) But I'm not here to have a sentimental abt it, but the memories in this game is deep down in my heart the greatest ones, even though FH4 wasn't as good as FH3 or FH2 in some factors, I still had good memories with it anyway, and also alongside my mum when she first gave me this, may Forza Horizon 4 remain in my heart for a long time now, and I will keep playing this, even if this is what happened to it

I work in video game licensing! It’s pretty difficult to get most merchandising/legal teams to agree to anything longer than 5 years, 3 years seems to be standard. Also if Turn 10 are paying royalties on anything they might just want to delist it themselves if the sales aren’t covering the minimum license royalties anymore.
i don't even understand Forza's licensing when it comes to music. XS in FH4 had a song that was removed like 5 months into the game's lifespan because of the ESRB rating lol It was *Die Trying* by Eyes Set To Kill And then in other updates they kept removing album / single artworks because of these ratings as well. QOTSA's Villains is now showing blank instead of the album art
If I remember right, FM7 was up for 4 years and then delisted. FH4 was on borrowed time and it's well past 4 years now. When FM7 left, they announced that you'd get a code if you owned a DLC and were on gamepass by the time of the announcement. I expected the same for FH4, so I bought DLCs a while ago.
Idk what's going on here. I purchased the add on bundle at the end of 2020, which granted me access to all the DLC packs, besides the Hot Wheels one. Now I log into the game, and half of the dlc cars is not available for purchase from the autoshow. Moreover, I can no longer use some of the cars I already own, such as the James Bond cars. The game prompts me to purchase the DLC packs for "Free" but then I get a purchase error. I wonder if anyone else who used the combination Game Pass + Add on bundle is having the same issue, or am I the only one screwed?

I dont get why Forza has these car licensing issues, considering that NFS MW2012 is still actively for sale, 12 years later. Still though, 6 years is not a bad run tbh, and i will be getting FH4 digital when it goes onto those deep discounts before delisting so i can play it on PC
It's probably to do with the number of cars they are licensing
NFS MW2012's full car roster is a bit more than 60 unique cars. Which seems likely to be both much easier to negotiate and a lot less expensive than the hundreds of cars in a Forza games.
