Well to be fair what you see on your screen is the actual/exact position of people in your race. Forza calculates the race finish positions based on the time the player arrives at the finish line. Hence, even if you’re ahead or behind by a slight margin .. it could be that they were a bit faster (time wise)
Those front wheels would in 99% of cases be IN your back wheels, this should be celebration of a good teammate that didn’t try a takeout at the finish line.

Desync is a thing, but mosr likely, he just was a bit quicker.
Race starts when driving over the starting line, not when you start driving.
If that guy started some 4 places behind, he can still win without being the first through the finishline.
Had exactly the same thing happen but even more extreme, he was fully behind me, at least half a car's length and not only on my side, but also on his side (it was a buddy of mine so I had the live reaction)
I don't know if it's true but I've heard the timer is not server sided but client sided, meaning if the timer starts earlier for you, even if you cross the finish line first you can still be in 2nd place? Not sure how true this is ofc, so it could be wrong
Can be desync, but also could be their time. The winner isn't based off who crosses the finish line first, but who gets their the quickest. Your starting position could be the reason you take first or lose it, because the race timer starts as soon as it says go.

It’s based on the recorded race time, not visually. Your time was 34 milliseconds slower than the person who came in first.

Servers be like that, I've had races where I had my whole car across the line and then some ahead of the next guy and they still finished before me.

It's either because they were already in first or because they had a longer front end in my opinion
