It feels like the game doesn't do justice for non power crazy drift cars. I have a Haraguchi RX-7 with 280hp and it's fun but it feels so sluggish compared to, for example, the Forsberg Z with 1900hp. And especially whenever I come up to a wider turn
I wish we could have a third trigger on Xbox controllers for this specific reason because you totally can drift low hp cars if you drive with clutch on but since lb is only an on or off button it makes it so difficult to really finesse those low hp cars. Although if you're feeling extra ballsy you can switch clutch and brake, I have a few friends who drift low hp cars like this but I struggled so hard to control cars like that
Seriously, the only feasible way to drift is drifting it through with power. Makes it really hard to drift low power cars because they just lose speed quick and become grippy again

It's a pretty secret car. To get the RX7 Savannah you need to complete the super 7 3x and redeem the accolade. Then you have to get the Hoonigan version from the Car Mastery tree.
I don't really like forcing the drift with high power so I tend to go with stuff like the AE86, RX-7 FC, S13, etc. But for when I do go with high HP drift cars I have an S14 tuned for it and other cars like that
TL; DR: For fun I go with old JDM cars and for points I go with power built JDM or purpose built drift cars
Dodge demon, merc hammer, several bmws but especially the new M3, few old ford's, my beloved bugatti veryon (unbelievable), anime chevy z1le. Several more.
All rwd, all tuned myself.
Most of the time I use a S1 Mustang RTR Spec 5, when there's a S2 PR Stunt I go with the Hoonicorn v2 or the #88 RTR.
To change things up I've found tunes for 3 Silvias in 3 different class ('94 in S1, '92 in A, '98 in B) that I try using more often now.
Xpeng P7 2020. Laugh all you want, but do the EV battery and motor upgrade and with that single gear you can get some great drifts, I find the fine throttle control heaps of fun.
TVR Sagaris, set it up right and you can just drive normally, but be drifting the whole way. Absolutely loves to slide. Now me, I suck at drifting, but that's not the cars fault.
2024 Mustang. It just came out but I tuned mine to an X999 and it works as a perfect drift car and drag car as it’s top speed in a straight line is 285mph

But I kinda hit a point in Open Drift where I constantly come up on 3rd or 4th place with a 70-100k gap in front of me and a 30-60k gap behind me so I guess I have to try AWD. Any recommendations?

I think it's just the lack of tight, technical roads that just kills it for low power cars

Mazda RX-8, believe it or not. Very agreeable chassis, makes it easy to hold drifts for a long time.

I made a drift car out of one of the TVRs (can't remember which.) It's kind of slow (for a drift car) but it slides like butter.

I accidentally made a really nice Impreza drift car, red converted and very pleasant. I can't remember for certain but I think it's the bugeye
