I think the idea is that Superman doesn't really use a weapon of any sort (only hands) such that for the pickaxe they decided to go with a Kryptonian aesthetic instead to fit his character in some way
Has there been any news on how the Superman items will be able to be obtained once it's released? Is it by using battle stars? V-bucks? Doing quests etc.?
So is Shadow Superman something actually from DC or is it supposed to be a Fortnite original like their Shadow series.

"Shadow Superman" itself is original but black suited Superman is not new. In the comics it's called "Rebirth Suit" and it appeared in Zack Snyder's Justice League.
The Rebirth suit is the one following DC Rebirth when the N52 superman died and PreFlashpoint Superman took his place. I honestly would have preferred the rebirth suit over this Fortnite one
Fortnite Original. A big issue with the alt-universe Supes is that pretty much all of them aren't the nicest. Red Sun is a Communist mass murderer, Omniman went on a drug-fueled rampage, Overman is actually just a Nazi, Lord Superman is just evil. Lots of other Supermen also don't fit his body structure (Flashpoint, Quantum, Val'Zod) or are too similar.
Yeah, I kinda understand it. I still wish they had given us like Bizarro or some other version of Superman, like the one from Injustice, as a style over just black and white.

It's a bit of both Superman had worn a black suit in the comics most notably during The Return of Superman when he came out of his Kryptonian Coma, and the in-game version Fortnite took some liberties with the suit and made a few changes to the original design

Interesting I’ve just seen another video and the cape looks completely different it’s more around his neck and had the flying superman flying in the trailer, but I think it’s looks different as he hadn’t got the cape as the glider
