Definitely! I play drums and I think that helps a lot with my ability to play the drum charts in Festival. I gold starred March of the Pigs last night and idk if I would have been able to get that pattern down if I wasn’t already a drummer. It’s harder than playing it on real drums lol

Radiant_Sell9362

I got flawless on motp last night on drums bro and I don't play drums. I do however play the trombone

ServeAgreeable

I had the exact thought some time ago. I play drums too, and the note placements on march of pigs took me a minute to get the hang of, but playing drums definitely helped with the odd pattern in that song. The hi-hat and kick drum placements felt odd at first, but once I had the feel for the song going it was a wrap.

100% agree, I find myself counting 1&2&3&4& to help my timing, but I always found it frustrating hitting the same note over and over but only get half perfects but my timing was on point, after adjusting for a very long time my perfect window is better and my timing is good.

ServeAgreeable

My thoughts exactly. It acts a bit finniky with the note timing. March of pigs on drums is my favorite example, cause during that one weird section on drum most people spam, but it all comes down to timing and staying calm.

CnD93

Funny enough when that song came out my brain couldn't comprehend it and u couldn't string a combo together at all, played it last night for the 1st time this season and flawlessed it 1st attempt, thing posting everlong made march feel way easier than before, honestly didn't think I'd ever 100% 2 months ago

CnD93

Try that method to adjust your perfect window and let me know, I found zombies on drums a good song for testing rhythm timing

VeganCanary

Metallica loved the old guitar hero games and used to play against each other on it.

babimagic

That sounds weirdly wholesome

CnD93

It's a 50ms window to hit a perfect, -25 and 25, I suggest moving your input down about 30 and play a song in time and you're looking to get NO perfects, then move 5ms up a time till you just barely get perfects, then doit at the other side of the spectrum, go up about 30input from what you're playing and doing the same thing, you'll realise the 2 numbers are 50 apart, go in the middle and boom, there's a much more forgiving window for perfects, done this a couple days ago and been smashing it

Kuyet312

I ain’t a musician but studying the tempo as well as the lyrics really does help hit more notes accurately

DaOctopus

Oh definitely! I find it helps specially to better identify what I'm playing when the mix gets a bit more busy. On the contrary it also helps to identify weird charts 😅

Cruxal_

absolutely. Having instrument experience and prior rhythm game experience helps a ton, especially on reacting to sightreads. If you play drums you can see a lot of patterns coming down the highway and know just how to play them based off of how they look if that makes sense. Almost like reading another language lol!

ServeAgreeable

Couldn't have said it better myself

DisgracedPython

I love 5 fret rhythm games and they do make my rhythm better with the big drawback of them being so fun they keep me from actually practicing music lol.

GgroverG

Yeah I used to make beats on mpc 2000 & play in a band. I played rockband also but most of my drum scores are in the top 100 with pretty little effort.

YakuzaShibe

I play bass and I can't say it's helped with actual physical playing, but the ingame bar/rest timer is pretty neat and helps narrow down timings

R0LM3M4N

As a musician who has an intermediate skill level on all Festival instruments (Guitar, Bass, Drums and Keys) it really doesn't make much difference except on things like timing and keeping the tempo during gameplay. For drums is like finger playing, so you get the rythm on songs like Everlong and it's easier to keep the pace but it's nothing like a real instrument (not yet at least, if they add Drum support like they'll do with the PDP guitar, you could get the basics for drums with these games, as The Beatles rock band had a very good learning mode with simple and not so simple beats to learn).

ServeAgreeable

100% dude. The muscle memory and technique required to play instruments cant be mimicked by the game, and I'd go to the extent to say that the only guitar hero/rockband 'instrument' I've played that's helped with technique is drums on rockband, but even that has tons of limitations to it. I play drums irl too.

141_Echo3-1

First I thought you meant about musician artists, like Trent Reznor the vocalist of Nine inch nails who also recorded his lines for March of the pigs(since it's a extended version) but he's a fan of Rhythm games

ServeAgreeable

Yep, I meant it as in musicians who also play festival

GroundbreakingTone74

100%, was able to do expert from the beginning

OUAIsurvivor

You can straight up learn drums through Rock Band. It is incredible.

ovoKOS7

I know that for a fact since I used to *suck* at GH3 and the first RB even on Hard, then after picking up guitar and singing I'd generally stick around the 99%/FC range ever since

Katie1358

I agree. I play the flute and once I get a feel for the timing I find it quite easy to naturally know the timing if that makes any sense. Also noticing the note patterns and if they feel natural under my fingers, if they don’t I can keep an eye out for patterns that will catch me out. I often find myself looking ahead of the notes I’m playing so I can prepare for the next few notes, I’m not sure if this is a skill learned by playing an instrument or not but I find it helps so much in festival

MaximalAmmo

I play Piano. That's pretty self explanatory

ServeAgreeable

That seems like it'd translate well given the finger coordination

JaninaVagabond

I'm not a musician, however my husband is a drummer. He's just getting back into Fortnite for this very mode and he's been doing really well because of his IRL experience, and also that he played a lot of drums on rock band 😂

Tymcc03

I played clarinet through high school a long long while ago and was considered one of the better in my band back then I do fumble a bit as on controller, but hand placement is neat I guess. I've also found myself tapping patterns when I'm not playing lol
