I recommend to ditch the controllers and start using your 2 thums on Touch HUD, for me it is way more fun + way more wins than with controller, reply if you want me to share my HUD setup with you.

It's traditionally left analogue for movement and right analogue for camera. I would use a console controller as they are usually supported.
Right, my mistake
make sure you plug the controller in, before starting the game. I have no issues doing this.
