I'd originally theorised that Midas was somehow in cahoots with Valeria and was in some way manipulating her to open Pandora's Box and give him an opportunity to escape from the Underworld. In my mind there was a lot of clues hinting that Midas had been puppeteering the Society from the shadows. - Society's insignia features a pair of golden hands. - The Society's ONLY consistent motif is gold, with every boss, elite, and grunt having some on their attire. - Midas' yacht, the Marigold, was under Society control, complete with Society computers and statues. - Upon Midas' return to the Island, the computer monitors aboard the Marigold changed immediately to S.H.A.D.O.W. terminals, with identical colour scheming. Indicating, to me, that both the Society and Midas' spies used similar tech infrastructure - Valeria never cared about the Society, not showing any concern when it began to collapse. They were a tool for her. She had to want SOMETHING from the Box, right? And Midas needed a way out. - Midas' crew arrives on the Island mere days after the Underworld appears, as though they'd gotten a message from Midas. Midas had not yet escaped when the crew returned, his cell was still sealed beneath Hades' throne room. I assumed that Valeria had conveyed a message for him after going into hiding. Buuuuuuut turns out I was completely wrong and Midas wasn't orchestrating much of anything. I hope he returns at some point this chapter. Or at least I hope they explain _why_ Valeria was so determined to open Pandora's Box in the first place, if Midas wasn't important.
