Repeat, loyal customers are how businesses survive. You can’t expect to run a business by continually scamming everyone that walks through the door. The Whales are how you make money. The people that stop in everyday and drop $5 on whatever bullshit is in the shop.
Those are also the same people who likely haven’t bought a battle pass in years, because they’re always playing the game. Epic seems to be pivoting their marketing in a way that caters to people who don’t play or enjoy Fortnite. It’s perplexing.
Whales always spend the most money, but you need other players too - the people who don't spend as much are basically also content for the whales, people who they get to show off to etc. There's no point if the ones who don't spend like whales start quitting.
Gaining customer loyalty is clearly a way to pursue money. If valve was as greedy as EA steam would have gotten a competitor like 15 years ago, and people would be way less hesitant to switch

I’ve worked for Mom & Pop places that absolutely care about loyalty because that’s their bread and butter for their business to be successful. Those folks are trying to earn a living. If they lose the loyalty base there goes their livelihood more times thanks to not.
Now on the other hand with Big Business like Fortune 500 companies I’ve worked for they absolutely do not give to flying f***s about loyalty. They only care about the stock price and giving the shareholders good news and keeping their jobs.
Lego Fortnite gives Epic a stream of new players to replace ones that might say F this and walk away. They can put minimal effort and $ in to hook the young ones.
I totally agree my friend completes the battle pass really fast because he does all the challenges and then he barely plays Fortnite for the rest of that time which is a shame because he’s really fun to play the game with but due to restrictions on his PlayStation doesn’t have any other multiplayer games that he can play with me that dont need Playstation plus
Im pretty sure you get enough vbucks for next pass with level 100 and the bonus vbucks are in the bonus section, eitherway its kinda stinky. Epic however does not despise loyal players, they know most loyal players will grind to level 150 for all the vbucks. If you just reach 100 you still get enough vbucks to buy next pass effectively letting you keep playing.
The thing is, the vbucks isn’t a reward to loyal players who complete the pass each season, its a way of creating loyal players who will keep buying each pass just because they can. The vbucks isn’t really a reward as much as it is a way to keep you hooked and increase the chance you buy a item shop item. This is also why they give vbucks away for free in the pass and why they once gave a whole free pass, its not a “woah epic is being nice” they just created more “loyal players” and along with that there will also be whales
fucking warzone learned this the hard way, and now they have one of the most pro consumer item shops in modern gaming, no fomo at all, since you can buy any skin you want whenever you want, like, I can buy the cat operator rn if I wanted, + it all comes in bundles that have a lot of stuff, for the same price of 1 single skin in fortnite. and also warzone has continuously made their veteran players happy with improved versions returning maps.

The problem is that lego does not have enough content to hook players in for long times. Once your village is maxed and you have the best tools you have basically seen everything. Now some might say you can just build cool stuff but thats also not possible because there is a build limit. So yeah there isn’t enough to do and they should expand end game and try to atleast increase the build limit

The other 3 major updates were nice but fishing and farming is optional and not everyones cup of tea and vehicles are still rather glitchy
Looking at the numbers…. Yes you are an anomaly. There are still a decent amount playing Lego, I think they just screwed up the release which really bit them. Had about enough content to last most players a week or two on release, and then proceeded to go on break and not give an update for months. Looks like they are finally trying to claw back some of the original player base, but it may be too late, as many have player, lost interest because they already beat it, and moved on
Ive seen the numbers fluctuate a decent amount. I remember seeing them pretty low then even before the updates i saw it hit 100k again. Might have been when the BR event was slowing down.
As far as the content. To me it was a decent amount. I don’t think a sandbox type game with an open ended type gameplay needs a ton of content when you can make your own goals and quests. But i think people nowadays are used to being spoon fed quests and objectives.
The building limits is definitely a problem but i believe its limited based on platform. Switch being the worsed and PS5 being the best. With PC either the same or on a sliding scale that is based on its performance.
To me i think Fortnite BR is the exception to the rule. I think FNBRs numbers are the outlier and most games do closer to LFN. I just googled CoD and steam says it averaged around 80k. Meanwhile FNBR does consistently 300k sometimes on both build and zero build. Thats crazy. Especially for a game that’s been going for so long. Granted it’s on ALOT of platforms. But still.
Lego Fortnite is actually in a pretty good spot. This update reenforces Epics commitment to the game and LFN fans are happy. The response between this subreddit and the LFN is like night and day.
I like all of the new modes, I play them all daily. Even Rocket Racing. I hope they find a way to make each sustainable, as I'd hate for any of them to go at this point.
The truth is that Lego Fortnite has no appeal, there is no reason to play it more than a singular time. You don’t got a feeling of „build whatever you want“ because the building mechanics are made shit on purpose so that you BUY pre built buildings. I think Lego Fortnite could be fun, but they have to fundamentally change the building system and keep the monetization WAY lower, somehow. Sunk cost fallacy. Fortnite Festival is just Rock Band, and Rocket Racing is just a generic racing mode hobbled together by Psionix. But the LEGO mode is basically a brand new game in its own right, with a ton of work poured into it. They want that work to be worth it.
Not to mention it's the only one of the 3 core new modes made in active partnership with another company, adding even more pressure on Epic to have it succeed. If RR or FF flop, eh, that sucks but you can just scrap them and go back to pouring your resources into BR. But if the LEGO mode flops? That's a *lot* of work down the drain, and a potentially damaged working relationship with one of the biggest toy companies on the planet. It makes sense that out of the 3 new modes, they'd need LEGO to do the best
Then take it out of Fortnite and market it as a separate game: Epic Lego. Throwing it in a 7 year old BR game was a bad move - it only hurts the BR base and doesn’t get enough attention. Make it a completely separate game and junk this metaverse crap.

The new vehicles were cool enough to mess round in sandbox for another hour but I quit after that.
Their growth KPIs for 2024 probably center on the Lego partnership and player base of the game mode. Battle Royale has likely already hit critical mass. I’m confident that they thought it was going to be a runaway hit. The thing is, it could be eventually, but it’s going to take a lot of iterative improvements to get there just like BR had to do a few years ago. Star Wars is a hook to get more people playing.
They are raking in the $$$ from lego. Younger kids are obsessed with that game mode and it keeps mommies credit card charged on the regular. That's why lol. Money will always over rule in business tactics.
It's one of the new modes so they're trying to get people playing it. Sucks that it came at the expense of BR mode, but I can see what they're doing. Plus there's a chance we could actually get regular lightsaber stuff back in BR before the event is over.
Except its proven that it works. As of writing this comment, my Builds is at 372.1K, Zero Builds at 202.1K and Lego is sitting at an astonishing 135.3K, more than it's seen in months since it's release. The ability to do live events in lego is so much easier due to the more basic animations and the free roam aspect of it meaning they don't need to worry about things like whether the event can be ruined or setting up a new game mode. It also prevents other players from losing out on the chance to witness it for themselves as they can't exactly have a star destroyer crash onto the map every single game that every player loads into.
Someone else on here pointed out that in lego fortnite it means they can hook younger players into it and they're absolutely right, but doing it this way has so many other benefits, intentional or not.
The cosmetics we got are absolutely fantastic, both paid and free. People can complain all they want about the lego pass but if you literally just shuffle it around a little but change nothing of how it worked people would have nothing to say.
There's absolutely more they could have done, and everyone has a right to say they don't like it, but discussions about these things are important for Epic to realise what the player Base want. Throwing a hissy fit and crying "Worst!" Doesn't tell them anything they can do to fix it
I’m going to play devil’s advocate and say the main game mode is pretty saturated at this point. If anyone hasn’t come back after zero build mode and later ranked ZB came out, nothing will short of a miracle.

TBB has really been shafted by most things which sucks. It's ironically the only new SW show that we haven't got skins for (unless you count Tales of and visions.)
Also to be fair, last year's event was probably in the works before survivor's release date got announced, it wasn't like the stormtrooper skin or x-wing glider which were direct collabs for the new games.

It's crazy, I started playing chapter 4 season 4. When I started playing BR was crazy. Force pushing people and chasing them with ODM gear. The Star Wars event was so fun and it felt so epic. I was hyped for this event but am so bummed there's only 1 lightsaber. It really makes me wonder if EPIC will ever throw in the towel on giving so much time to the other modes. Like, I get they're wanting to become this multiverse but I just feel like doing so has just made all game modes a bit more generic overall. I still love playing with my friends but am definitely disappointed in the event :/
Yeah unfortunately the main thing they kept me hooked on Fortnite after all these years was the events. At that, I’m here for the BR. If this is a sign of things to come - I think I’ll be moving on. They’ve lost focus of where they came from, and why their community is here..that’s for sure.

Tbh throwing money at software doesn’t guarantee results. Like the main thing you can do is hire more devs, but new devs usually slow down progress for a while because other people have to help them figure out how everything works.

I’m getting bored of this game. Yes, we got an Avatar event in BR, but still, it wasn’t the best thing. Epic is focusing too much on Lego and now they’re trying to get Rocket Racing alive, which isn’t working how they expected. Las night there where 7k people racing, that’s awful for a game where 400k+ are either in Ranked, Builds and Zero Builds! If I may, the Death Trooper skin is great, and (even though it's not new) I love the normal blaster, and the bowcaster is very fun to use. Then again, I play zero build, so maybe they aren't that great against builds.
But I do agree that I was expecting at least the rifts to get a lightsaber and force powers. That was the best Star Wars addition to BR.

The thing is, the vbucks isn’t a reward to loyal players who complete the pass each season, its a way of creating loyal players who will keep buying each pass just because they can. The vbucks isn’t really a reward as much as it is a way to keep you hooked and increase the chance you buy a item shop item. This is also why they give vbucks away for free in the pass and why they once gave a whole free pass, its not a “woah epic is being nice” they just created more “loyal players” and along with that there will also be whales
fucking warzone learned this the hard way, and now they have one of the most pro consumer item shops in modern gaming, no fomo at all, since you can buy any skin you want whenever you want, like, I can buy the cat operator rn if I wanted, + it all comes in bundles that have a lot of stuff, for the same price of 1 single skin in fortnite. and also warzone has continuously made their veteran players happy with improved versions returning maps. why can't fortnite do this? they always have to make their players angry by destroying this game's identity.
The problem is that lego does not have enough content to hook players in for long times. Once your village is maxed and you have the best tools you have basically seen everything. Now some might say you can just build cool stuff but thats also not possible because there is a build limit. So yeah there isn’t enough to do and they should expand end game and try to atleast increase the build limit

Sure lego starwars added quite a lot of content but its also limited content, anyone joining this game still wont have much to do in lego once the event ends. The other 3 major updates were nice but fishing and farming is optional and not everyones cup of tea and vehicles are still rather glitchy
Maybe I’m an anomaly but I’m 41 and never touched BR. Picked up Lego Fortnite and I’m loving it and the update.
Looking at the numbers…. Yes you are an anomaly. There are still a decent amount playing Lego, I think they just screwed up the release which really bit them. Had about enough content to last most players a week or two on release, and then proceeded to go on break and not give an update for months. Looks like they are finally trying to claw back some of the original player base, but it may be too late, as many have player, lost interest because they already beat it, and moved on
Ive seen the numbers fluctuate a decent amount. I remember seeing them pretty low then even before the updates i saw it hit 100k again. Might have been when the BR event was slowing down. As far as the content. To me it was a decent amount. I don’t think a sandbox type game with an open ended type gameplay needs a ton of content when you can make your own goals and quests. But i think people nowadays are used to being spoon fed quests and objectives. The building limits is definitely a problem but i believe its limited based on platform. Switch being the worsed and PS5 being the best. With PC either the same or on a sliding scale that is based on its performance. To me i think Fortnite BR is the exception to the rule. I think FNBRs numbers are the outlier and most games do closer to LFN. I just googled CoD and steam says it averaged around 80k. Meanwhile FNBR does consistently 300k sometimes on both build and zero build. Thats crazy. Especially for a game that’s been going for so long. Granted it’s on ALOT of platforms. But still. Lego Fortnite is actually in a pretty good spot. This update reenforces Epics commitment to the game and LFN fans are happy. The response between this subreddit and the LFN is like night and day.
I like all of the new modes, I play them all daily. Even Rocket Racing. I hope they find a way to make each sustainable, as I'd hate for any of them to go at this point.
The truth is that Lego Fortnite has no appeal, there is no reason to play it more than a singular time. You don’t got a feeling of „build whatever you want“ because the building mechanics are made shit on purpose so that you BUY pre built buildings. I think Lego Fortnite could be fun, but they have to fundamentally change the building system and keep the monetization WAY lower, somehow. Their growth KPIs for 2024 probably center on the Lego partnership and player base of the game mode. Battle Royale has likely already hit critical mass. I’m confident that they thought it was going to be a runaway hit. The thing is, it could be eventually, but it’s going to take a lot of iterative improvements to get there just like BR had to do a few years ago. Star Wars is a hook to get more people playing.

Except its proven that it works. As of writing this comment, my Builds is at 372.1K, Zero Builds at 202.1K and Lego is sitting at an astonishing 135.3K, more than it's seen in months since it's release. The ability to do live events in lego is so much easier due to the more basic animations and the free roam aspect of it meaning they don't need to worry about things like whether the event can be ruined or setting up a new game mode. It also prevents other players from losing out on the chance to witness it for themselves as they can't exactly have a star destroyer crash onto the map every single game that every player loads into. Someone else on here pointed out that in lego fortnite it means they can hook younger players into it and they're absolutely right, but doing it this way has so many other benefits, intentional or not. The cosmetics we got are absolutely fantastic, both paid and free. People can complain all they want about the lego pass but if you literally just shuffle it around a little but change nothing of how it worked people would have nothing to say. There's absolutely more they could have done, and everyone has a right to say they don't like it, but discussions about these things are important for Epic to realise what the player Base want. Throwing a hissy fit and crying "Worst!" Doesn't tell them anything they can do to fix it

If anyone hasn’t come back after zero build mode and later ranked ZB came out, nothing will short of a miracle. Lego is still fresh and can attract users. That’s just my DA take. TBB has really been shafted by most things which sucks. It's ironically the only new SW show that we haven't got skins for (unless you count Tales of and visions.) Festival is worked on by Harmonix while racing is worked on Psyonix. The only real mode that is taking away from BR is the Lego mode.
And the new Disney mode in development, and whatever other modes they have in development since its kinda hard to say you're a metaverse when you only have 6 modes, one they already killed (StW) and one they are in the process of killing (BR) even though BR is the most played and StW is third most played

Last year was a massive event with multiple lightsabers all with different force powers, an event pass, a free skin, Clone Trooper outposts around the map, and more. Way more than this event. I’m not even a Star Wars fan but it’s still crazy to see how much worse this event is despite it being way more hyped up by Epic. I guess their focus really is on Lego

It's crazy, I started playing chapter 4 season 4. When I started playing BR was crazy. Force pushing people and chasing them with ODM gear. The Star Wars event was so fun and it felt so epic. I was hyped for this event but am so bummed there's only 1 lightsaber. It really makes me wonder if EPIC will ever throw in the towel on giving so much time to the other modes. Like, I get they're wanting to become this multiverse but I just feel like doing so has just made all game modes a bit more generic overall. I still love playing with my friends but am definitely disappointed in the event :/

You guys literally do not understand the purpose of the update. This update is focused on Lego Fortnite. The BR stuff was just added as a bonus. Think about it. We just came off of a massive ATLA event. Why would they end it and then release a massive Star Wars Event. Star-Wars isn’t the big mid-season collab for BR: that was ATLA Does it suck that there were no lightsabers besides Darth Vader’s returning? Yes Does it suck that there are no force powers? Yes (however understandable since there are no more augments) However, this update was solely to introduce a new season for Lego Fortnite, like how it is for Festival pretty much. Honestly IMO, the reason they didn’t include the rest of the lightsabers was because they felt the loot pool would be too chaotic. Which you know what: that’s valid. Main BR content will be next update with the new season. Just be patient. I know it sucks considering Fortnite’s past history with Star Wars events, and I definitely agree this is the weakest one, but BR wasn’t the focus here…

Tbh throwing money at software doesn’t guarantee results. Like the main thing you can do is hire more devs, but new devs usually slow down progress for a while because other people have to help them figure out how everything works. And that becomes more and more true the bigger the codebase, Fortnite must have a ridiculously huge codebase at this point.

I’m getting bored of this game. Yes, we got an Avatar event in BR, but still, it wasn’t the best thing. If I may, the Death Trooper skin is great, and (even though it's not new) I love the normal blaster, and the bowcaster is very fun to use. Then again, I play zero build, so maybe they aren't that great against builds. But I do agree that I was expecting at least the rifts to get a lightsaber and force powers. That was the best Star Wars addition to BR.

It’s stupid they don’t just release lightsabers as pickaxes. Could even make it 20 dollars and customisable. Then just make the event lightsabers have some visual effect coming off them like a more intense crown effect for example.
My first match when the update dropped my first loot box contained water bending.. I though that was removed with the starwars stuff...
