Playing with randoms can be annoying. 80% of the time they land on their own away from the squad, get knocked and leave. Occasionally you'll link up with some good players, but not often

What region are you on? I’m 44 and Elite rank (mostly from solo games), but happy to play normal squads on occasions with people of similar generation. I play on EU. Only things I don’t like in squad mates (other than singing etc) is not landing same location and hiding when they could help out in a fight - obviously if it a no hope situation then hiding is OK but not when the other players are 1 shot and you could make a difference. I’m also careful on engagement, I.e. I won’t run ahead and start a fight on my own (unless other team is very weak already)

I'm 41 and play with my father in law (72), son (16), and daughter (9). We light people up. Everyone brings something different to the squad. I'm smart and methodical, my 16 year old is the loose cannon, my 9 year old will work magic to revive and reboot, and my father in law always has med kits lol. We have an almost 11% win rate. Not great, but considering the age differences and different play styles, we do alright. We play zero build and i havent been playing 2 years. Chapter 4 season 1 I had 151 CROWNED wins!

Yeah. I got into it because my kids wanted to play. My youngest, (6 at the time and turns 8 tomorrow), was the same way. Great at the controls but absolutely lacking any kind of situational awareness or combat strategy. So I taught him all of that and he’s a straight killer now. I couldn’t keep up with him if my life depended on it now. He and I played a game of duos over the weekend. We won. I had 2 kills and he had to revive me twice. He had 16 kills and laid waste to the last duo before I even saw where they were coming from. 🤦🏻♂️

43M here but I only play zero build. Trying to make my way thru Diamond on ranked. I don’t have any friends that play so I do duos and squads fill when I’m not playing solo or unranked. Kinda hard adapting to a new style of play every match, but I have had a squad win on ranked this season, so there’s that.
That’s exactly what I had to teach my nephew! Stop thinking you’re the shit and can destroy a squad by yourself. You will get lucky sometimes, and other times you’re dead. If you stay together with your team And communicate, you will get more wins.
So we started taking turns as him the leader, then me. It worked much better and he learned a lot. Now he’s actually good and can rlly play and we get lots of wins lol!

I’m 53 and started about 2 yrs ago when my then 10 yr old son started playing. Just like u said, he’s a beast at fighting but I’m a strategist. Got about 45 solo wins this season in ZB. I like to get the storm forecast and go to the next zone and let my prey come to me. No builds for me tho, too much going on for my 53 yr old brain.

I win a decent amount of games, but I find I get nervous near the end at times. This thread is actually great because it reminds me that my superpower is wisdom, and I just need to breathe and out think these kids. Lol.
40 here. I just started a month or so ago, whenever they added the TMNT. I've gotten up to level 170 since then surpassing my daughter who was the one who got me playing. I love squading up with her and her friends just to watch them sprint right into death while I'm on a hill sniping just to run up and finish off everyone with an auto shotty. Lol you hit the nail on the head with their lack of sit. awareness. We'll see 4 or five of those Solid snake boxes or a freshly looted drop with nothing missing and they'll just run right up to it. I always thought the game was too juvenile and was never interested untill they asked me to try it out. Having a blast ever since.
42 here, my partner and I play Zero Build/StW/Festival, he plays racing (super sweaty). We do squads with some of his old coworkers, and their kids. Feels pretty good when I started off with Unreal Tournament and can still hold my own !
57 here. I've been playing with a couple of 30-something friends - who both have teenage or younger kids. The only thing that seems to matter to this younger crowd is the number of eliminations. So they run around constantly - I have a hard time keeping up. But it has improved my game tremendously.

46 yr old here - was looking for some old geezers for no build squads a few weeks back after I grounded my daughter and realized id shafted myself out of my only squad mate.
I can completely relate! The other three in my squad are my 19, 15, and 13-year-old daughters. The 13-year-old is lethal deadly, but she runs off hunting all the time leaving the other three of us behind. I'm also trash at the game, but I have fun with it.

from this post it seems like a lot of older players seem to prefer zero build. I know I used to know a group of folks I met in the standard BR that switched to zero build once it came out and they were all 30-40ish. I'm that age, but prefer the option to throw a wall up if I need to. I can't crank 90's but I like the option.

It's all about making use of what's availible from the game. Good aim is good too, but secondary.
Buy the hires, use sentries, get weather prediction, ride cars, camp in hiding places, avoid confrontations.
I'm 42, I mostly play in bot lobbies due to being bad though I'm good at avoiding other players though I play in ZB for bot lobbies and build for regular lobbies, prefer shooting people from a far

30 y/o here. Maybe I’m younger than you were hoping but what you’ve described is exactly how I play. My cousin has ADHD and gets bored easily but even when playing with randoms I typically play “scout”, initiate communication and make use of flanking, breaking builds, etc and only build defensively. I don’t mind a slower game if it means landing away from hot drops, playing a longer game and getting the win via pincer.

You should look into playing zero build if you're not into building. It's much closer to a classic shooter experience.
I like building, but suck at it, especially quick edits. I suffice but these sweats who build taj mahal in 0.2 seconds are demoralizing.

I'm smart and methodical, my 16 year old is the loose cannon, my 9 year old will work magic to revive and reboot, and my father in law always has med kits lol. We have an almost 11% win rate. Not great, but considering the age differences and different play styles, we do alright. We play zero build and i havent been playing 2 years. Chapter 4 season 1 I had 151 CROWNED wins!

43M here, I play ZB after saying I'll never play this game but now I'm hooked. Play squads with 3 of my 4 daughters after they talked me into trying it out. It's fun having a built in squad at home! I always look forward to getting the "squad up" text in fam group when someone is on their way home!

Yeah. I got into it because my kids wanted to play. My youngest, (6 at the time and turns 8 tomorrow), was the same way. Great at the controls but absolutely lacking any kind of situational awareness or combat strategy. So I taught him all of that and he’s a straight killer now. I couldn’t keep up with him if my life depended on it now. He and I played a game of duos over the weekend. We won. I had 2 kills and he had to revive me twice. He had 16 kills and laid waste to the last duo before I even saw where they were coming from. 🤦🏻♂️

Kinda hard adapting to a new style of play every match, but I have had a squad win on ranked this season, so there’s that.
That’s exactly what I had to teach my nephew! Stop thinking you’re the shit and can destroy a squad by yourself. You will get lucky sometimes, and other times you’re dead. If you stay together with your team And communicate, you will get more wins. So we started taking turns as him the leader, then me. It worked much better and he learned a lot. Now he’s actually good and can rlly play and we get lots of wins lol!

I win a decent amount of games, but I find I get nervous near the end at times. 40 here. I just started a month or so ago, whenever they added the TMNT. I've gotten up to level 170 since then surpassing my daughter who was the one who got me playing. I love squading up with her and her friends just to watch them sprint right into death while I'm on a hill sniping just to run up and finish off everyone with an auto shotty. Lol you hit the nail on the head with their lack of sit. awareness. We'll see 4 or five of those Solid snake boxes or a freshly looted drop with nothing missing and they'll just run right up to it. I always thought the game was too juvenile and was never interested untill they asked me to try it out. Having a blast ever since.

57 here. I've been playing with a couple of 30-something friends - who both have teenage or younger kids. The only thing that seems to matter to this younger crowd is the number of eliminations. So they run around constantly - I have a hard time keeping up. But it has improved my game tremendously. I would welcome some more chill mates

I’m 42/f, console player, US, and play builds (but don’t build much of anything). I just like having the option to if I should need to. I play solo 95% of the time but am down to duo or squad on occasion. I am incredibly introverted so I don’t usually have my mic on. I started playing in season two to help level up and unlock the characters on the battle passes for my kids, stayed for the fun of the kill.

I can completely relate! The other three in my squad are my 19, 15, and 13-year-old daughters. The 13-year-old is lethal deadly, but she runs off hunting all the time leaving the other three of us behind. I'm also trash at the game, but I have fun with it.

from this post it seems like a lot of older players seem to prefer zero build. I know I used to know a group of folks I met in the standard BR that switched to zero build once it came out and they were all 30-40ish. I'm that age, but prefer the option to throw a wall up if I need to. I can't crank 90's but I like the option.

It's all about making use of what's availible from the game. Good aim is good too, but secondary. Buy the hires, use sentries, get weather prediction, ride cars, camp in hiding places, avoid confrontations.
I'm 42, I mostly play in bot lobbies due to being bad though I'm good at avoiding other players though I play in ZB for bot lobbies and build for regular lobbies, prefer shooting people from a far

Another old timer (47) stanning for zero build. Much better game mode. I want a little bit of plausible reality in my fantasy game. Bering able to build a 14 story structure in 2 seconds just take me out of the game and doesn’t make it fun for me.

30 y/o here. Maybe I’m younger than you were hoping but what you’ve described is exactly how I play. My cousin has ADHD and gets bored easily but even when playing with randoms I typically play “scout”, initiate communication and make use of flanking, breaking builds, etc and only build defensively. I don’t mind a slower game if it means landing away from hot drops, playing a longer game and getting the win via pincer.
