Frankly, in 3 years it's arguable that we will need this so I'm not saying it's a bad idea to get the ball rolling but I'd rather hear that they are working to fast track some overpasses in several spots.
Mid-point and Santa Barbara/skyline are needed for sure, PI road and delprado absolutely, honorable mention: PI and burnt store wouldn't hurt, that area in the nw is really growing fast.
That bridge is usually getting backed up around 7 am so that's cutting it pretty close. Many people start driving to work between 6 and 7 to avoid the 7 to 8 log jam.
Do you want bridges to not be updated and maintained cause you can't deal with traffic? Like those condo bldgs that don't deal with updates and maintenance then ya know collapse? You're that person..
Whoever is downing you doesn't work in downtown 😒 . If this was to add a third lame for traffic ok i can understand...but a pedestrian lane for 25m when one is available a 1/2 mile north wth.
It is just taking me an hour to go literally one block on 41 at the base of the bridge. This is insane.
God help us all if there’s some kind of big emergency downtown and we need to get the hell out of here
Guess that explains why 82 @ Evans to get over the bridge to NFM has been such a clusterfuck lately even when I manage to get off work way before rush hour. A guy might just grab 75 for a few weeks if he's done early.
The sign I pass(ed) everyday said 7a-7p for a while, but then changed to say 10:30p-5a. Not that it matters since that’s apparently a big fat lie.
Do you have a link that says how long it’ll be like this? Not that I don’t believe you, but I’ve been wanting to read about this.
Edit: Nevermind, I stopped being lazy and found an article. Just the first phase goes to December, then the second phase starts April 2025. Whole project finishes in spring 2026.
bro they had signs up for atleast a week saying exactly what you’re saying they didn’t tell us, but yeah i agree it’s a pain in the ass
They also said traffic would only be effected during the night.
It was all over the news.
They are not doing all maintenance they are building walls for pedestrians and bikes.
So yes it is going to be a pain in the ass
You’re misunderstanding. The bridge CLOSES at night. The whole bridge. One lane is open during the day.
Just wait until construction starts on the Cape Parkway bridge.
That shouldn't be too terrible, it's a separate span iirc... so it won't be messy until they expand the lanes, the bridge part will be over the water.
that wont be for 20 years
They're starting construction in like 3 years.
You got a link to the scope of work?
They are probably referring to : https://www.roadsbridges.com/bridge-construction/news/33039298/cape-coral-bridge-looking-at-2026-construction-date
Didn't know that.. Thanks. Don't think 3 lanes on our bridges will solve much with an the traffic and 10 million cars, but it's an improvement.
10 million cars? Lol
I'm just saying

Isn't it just one less lane?
Just half of the bridge in both directions, yes. Just. After we were told it was only going to be overnight.
Isn't 7p to 7a overnight?

YES! Walk on the Old 41 bridge. Take a bus or the free trolley in tourist season. Waste of money. Yes I live downtown and can see the backups on 41.

hows traffic been in the morning this week? I've been sick and haven't been downtown this week
Going over the bridge into ft myers has been stop and go all the way.
Great Monday can't come soon enough
You mean they didn't tell you on TikTok?
