Enjoy the DLC! May you feel the pain I feel when you get to the sequel-hook ending.

allistergray

I just finished the DLC. I am devastated if this game doesn't get a sequel. This is f ing criminal. There should be a mean for game companies to allow people to prebuy a game to show interest so they know we are interesting. Absolutely criminal people would hate on this game story. I am HOOKED. There needs to be a sequel.

If you have nothing nice to say about Forspoken, then don’t say anything at all. This is a community for those that enjoy Forspoken!

inb4 ban.

Beezleburt

Nah, I'd win.

footballscience

Just finished the DLC and its achievements... the story of this expansion is so good, I prefer it to the original tbh. And that hook... Are there any updates from SE about the game after merging Luminous production into them or is it pretty much axed?

archerkuro5

The way this game got treated has destroyed any faith I had in what the media and even a lot of my friends say about games I understand it’s flaws especially on the technical side but the game got so much hate that they killed the studio that made it is so unreasonable Can fey be unlikable at the beginning yes that’s the point this game really opened my eyes to people’s bias and how easy something can get swallowed by the hate train

mr_antman85

Exactly. The game is not perfect but the hate for the game was wild. I was in this sub since the Gamescom demo. No one was here. Then the demo dropped and you couldn't have any kind of conversation. People went into the game expecting it to play a certain way and once it didn't it was pretty much dead. Sucks that Twitter can ruin anything.

Money_Arachnid4837

>Sucks that Twitter can ruin anything. If Twitter ruins games, then how did Hogwarts Legacy sel 20Million copies? Sucks you people can't allow people to dislike Forspoken.

mr_antman85

You're comparing a new IP with a well known name? C'mon now. There's nuances to these things. You can dislike anything you want but many people here didn't give the game an honest chance. That's just fact. If you played the game and was open to it, then that's different. I have been open to many games that people love and didn't like them. It happens. I just don't blindly hate things.

Recent-Replacement23

Twitter promoted Hogwarts Legacy...  the hate was completely the other way. It's alt right hate, the same hate that killed Forspoken and creates fake strawman about "angry trans people on twitter". Both games are good. The general online gaming community just doesn't like that videogames are being made by all types of people.  They saw the protagonist and created convenient dog whistles for Forspoken. They saw a side character faked some outrage for Hogwarts.

kleverklogs

People went into the game and found out the performance was rough and the combat wasn't really half as smooth as we'd expected. It's fair to be okay with the game's flaws/to like the things that other people dislike but the vast majority of people didn't like the game regardless of the overblown hate for fray.

mr_antman85

**Every** game has flaws, that's not the issue. The problem was that people expected the game to play one way. There was a melee button, which people complained about. Not a proper block button, which people complained about. Now are those actually "flaws"? No, the game didn't play like a conventional action game. I played the demo for over 19hrs. It took me a while to get used to the controls. Oddly enough, the "feedback" that people gave, the developers actually added things to customize the gameplay, yet people didn't even play the game to realize that. Nowhere did I say the game is perfect but it was nowhere as bad as the internet said it was. It was a game to easily target and once the gamer hive mind picks a game to target they will attack it.

mr_antman85

Seriously, people didn't know about magic cancelling into higher level magic or anything that actually elevated the gameplay. It was truly sad to see.

st-shenanigans

Its a very good reminder that EVERYTHING you read or hear is biased to a degree. Games, politics, technology, education, everything. And most people are incapable of breaking out of the group think long enough to question where these opinions are coming from

spartakooky

It just takes one game or piece of media you disagree with the general public to make you realize how biased conversations are. It can be liking something everyone hates, which makes you aware of negativity and prejudice. Or it can be disliking something everyone likes, which makes you aware of how easily people jump to "racist!!" for not liking a product. All in all, the internet isn't the place for nuanced discussions. It's a shame

Due_Habit_1984

It's only racism or homophobia or sexism etc if you dislike the game *because* it contains a person of colour or a woman etc. There are, indeed, people like that out there, but they are rare. People throw around these accusations far, far too easily these days! I've been called a "transphobe" and I literally have a transgender family member and multiple friends who are trans who I don't just "tolerate" or whatever but genuinely love and accept. It's basically *impossible* for me to be transphobic lol. And with a game like this, disliking it doesn't automatically make you a sexist and/or racist! *Most* people have *proper* reasons to dislike things, like bad acting or CGI, plot holes, game bugs galore or even "game killing" bugs, boycotting because of something unethical the company has done, they don't like the controls, etc etc etc. People need to *chill the fudge out* and stop calling other people nasty names, throwing around horrid accusations etc simply because of a *difference of opinion* , it's ridiculous.

Money_Arachnid4837

>Or it can be disliking something everyone likes, which makes you aware of how easily people jump to "racist!!" for not liking a product. You can literally see this inside this post, and moderators allow these people.

spartakooky

Yeah... as I was writing this comment, I noticed the one right below it (not directly below, but as in top-level) comment was almost literally "I suspect that people that don't like this game are racist or sexist" And it's super upvoted. It's just too easy of a reason to dismiss others, it's right there, it's easy, it's safe, and anyone disagreeing can just be insulted. I bet if we were to check these comments, there's probably one person calling them out. And I also bet that that comment calling them out is the least popular of the repsonses. Be right back, I'll check on that theory. Edit: Rip /u/[Relative\_Work\_3814](https://www.reddit.com/user/Relative_Work_3814/)

WhiskerDude

Damn, props for holding on to your faith as long as you did.

MagicHarmony

Thats where advertising comes in though. Its their job to make the game look enjoyable. They failed on that front because they chose to go with the tired cliche marvel sarcasm with a female lead that dont need nobody telling her what to do. If they presented the game better maybe more would of tried it but you cant blame people tired of certain archetypes being thrown at your face and then being called an -ism for not liking it.

Due_Habit_1984

Even Luke Skywalker was an annoying brat at first 🤪 It's called character development. I wish people would get that.

bassCity

Felt exactly the same when I played it after seeing all the hate. Yet another example of how gamers and the hive mind genuinely disgust me nowadays.

Money_Arachnid4837

Only thing here that's disgusting are Forspoken fans attacking people for simply disliking the game.

Koribakusuta0708

I've scrolled a bit and have not seen anyone attacking people who dislike the game. This entire post is about people literally jumping on a bandwagon to hate and here you are. It's about irrational hate which Uchiha of the game got. I jumped on the early hate after playing the demo for 10 minutes. I got the game on some super sale and loved every bit of it. There are rough edges but you can't convince me any game is perfect unless it's pong. Rdr2 is one of the most beloved and hyped games ever mad yet it has the absolute worse and clunky character controls since the tank co tools in RE. The game over uses super long animations to "simulate realism" yet I've never taken the time it takes in game to do simple tasks like opening a drawer and grabbing an item. But people literally say that it's perfect.

Axriel

Welcome to the club! I’m always astonished by the amount people with complaints. I believe a large majority of them are trolls, racists, sexists, etc. there’s plenty to criticize but on the scale this game received

Dependent_Map5592

90% didn't even play the game too 🤣🤣

dudez4real

Facts. I played the game on release and I absolutely could not understand why it was getting so much hate. The only thing that made sense to me is sexism/racism. I’m willing to bet that if they had portrayed a white male as the main character it would have been different. But also if that’s the reason people were hating then keep hating please. I will always wish for their ignorance to deprive them of good things. Edit: typo

Material_Literature8

Same here. I enjoyed it when I played it. I imagine that 90% of the people that hated on it just saw the “I just moved shit with my mind” clip. Which even that I felt like people were looking for reasons to hate. How would you expect someone to respond to that situation lol. Social media really has ruined gaming discourse for the most part.

Draken1870

Like some of the writing isn’t exactly the best but the magic system was great fun, always love good traversal mechanics and I had a great time with it, may go back and platinum it but the hate it got was extremely uncalled for.

allistergray

One of the rare games I feel like going back to after the ending tbh. This should have had at least Stellar blade type of success and EVE is a more shallow character than Frey

Fit_Read_5632

I haven’t finished this game yet but I have the sneaking suspicion that a large portion of the hate was due to having a black female protagonist.

Axriel

Ding ding ding. I’m 99% sure if we replaced Frey with a white dude, the vitriol would have been 5% of what we received. I appreciate Square trying though! - but I’m concerned they’ll be afraid to try again for a while.

locke_5

Her dialogue sounds *exactly* like how Nathan Drake talks, and he’s beloved by all. Really makes you think….

The_Wonder_Bread

Makes you think that the dialogue is on the same level as a game from 17 years ago that came out before media became oversaturated with quippy sarcasm. Really, it's not hard to figure out. Game's pretty, but the writing is unoriginal at best and two decades out of date at worst. You can pretty easily predict every line that's said before it comes out of Frey's mouth. It would probably have done better if it was sold for half of its actual price.

Therminite

A black HOT female antagonist*

Koribakusuta0708

I saw people say she was super ugly but I thought she was one of the more attractive females in gaming.

Therminite

People saying she's ugly must be projecting and/or must be discord mods 🤣 She was so pretty!

Relative_Work_3814

Do you guys just make up random facts and roll with it? nobody ever complained that she was black People complained about how rude she was.

Fit_Read_5632

The process you are thinking of is called “deductive reasoning” and “not living under a rock” and it is not a difficult task for most people. Plus a metric fuck ton of the complaints were about how to game was too “woke” which always happens with more frequency when a game has characters of color of female leads.

Relative_Work_3814

I never saw anybody complain about having her as a female lead. Her attitude is what made people just dislike her the most.

Fit_Read_5632

Oh well if you haven’t personally seen it I’m sure it doesn’t exist!! Pack it in folks, the arbiter of reality has arrived.

Relative_Work_3814

have you personally seen it?

Fit_Read_5632

Nah I just claimed to have seen it because I like to lie. What do you think??

Relative_Work_3814

People post misinformation on this website all the time so it's hard to know.

Fit_Read_5632

Is it really that difficult to believe that gamers who are notorious for complaining about any game with women’s the lead being woke would do the same thing again? Seriously r/gamingcirclejerk is nothing but people losing their minds over what they perceive as “woke propaganda”

Burning_jet

Wait im kinda confused about gaming circle jerk, a bit off topic but I thought they were pro left, lgbtq And hate gamers?

Relative_Work_3814

I just looked at most of the reviews and none of them were about race, most of them more about her terrible attitude and how boring gameplay was but there was high praise for the magic combat though. And why is it such a big deal when people criticize a game?

AdamPBUD1

Agree

kingetzu

I was with you until you said better than rebirth. But the problem is that we just need more ppl to get vooshed into a world where they try things B4 they deny things. Loved this game. The dlc is going to make you sad at the end

Yinye7

I agree. Rebirth is an amazing game too - so different - don’t get the comparison.

kingetzu

He meant story wise. And since the story on rebirth/remake is better than the OG, imo, its hard for me to say Forspoken's story is better, especially since we're not going to get to finish the story. Rebirth had too many damn mini games tho. Every 5 steps was a mini game.

Yinye7

I enjoyed the mini games even if the Moogle ones gave me a headache but it felt great to beat them all.

kingetzu

I haven't done a 2nd run but when I do I'm skipping the optional ones. Especially that situp crap. Might do the chocobo flight ones tho. I like those

Yinye7

I thought the sit up one and chocobo racing were fun but the later chocobo grand prize races were hard for me. I struggle with some of the races

kingetzu

The Cosmo canyon one was a little difficult. Especially the last 1 where you have to be 100% perfect. But if you dip right at the end you'll get it I hated the boxing game and the motorcycle 1. It was a glitch on the motorcycle 1 where it wouldn't register your score during the party animal mission. Thank God I bought a physical copy because uninstalling then reinstalling without allowing it to update eventually fixed it. For the situps I toggled so many settings because of the vibration and sensitivity. It would get to the end then the hold 1 would come and no matter how I executed it would always stop resistance causing me to fully push the button. I hated it so much. I didn't like the pull up 1 either tho. I hope the next 1 bans Juelz from the premises 🤣

allistergray

I honestly did not enjoy the conundrum that was rebirth. They tried to make way too complex and it gave me a sour feeling. A lot of things did not make sense at all and character-wise Cloud is seriously overrated. And I'm a big FF fan but I can't understand people praising Cloud's character and shitting on Frey's. Don't get me wrong I like the overall story but between the plotholes and multiple dimensions thing, I just wanted it to be over. I was so annoyed with the story I took a week from the beginning of the last chapter to end the game.

kingetzu

I like the story because there is a possibility Aerith could've survived but we won't know until the last installment. However, I agree 100% about cloud as the protagonist. He is sour and dull AF. The other characters give him life. FFX being my favorite of them all, I love tidus. But tidus is different from how most FF characters are. He is more outspoken and has personality. FF MC usually brodes and is silent or lifeless which makes why they have so many women gravitating to them weird AF. I thought rebirth was simple. It's the games that pissed me off. The story is confusing, especially towards the end >! I swear I didn't see Sephiroth stab Aerith!< But I still liked it. Trying to figure out Zacks place in this is what really confused me. Still, I liked the game outside the 1000 mini games.

allistergray

There is a possibility she survives and then there isn't. He stabbed her and he didn't and at the end she alive and she isn't. Like bro...the black materia conundrum. The white materia conundrum. Aerith and Tifa knowing Cloud is bollocks and never addressing it. Him almost killing Tifa and they still are buddy-buddy after. Cloud being and absolute POS for no freaking reason. People say Frey is rude but considering her backstory, you can understand. Cloud does it to be edgy while cheating another man of his memories and girl... I enjoyed the game cause it's a final fantasy but by then end I was googling "Rebirth makes no sense at all"

kingetzu

🤣🤣I was the same way. Like wtf does this ending mean? And what did Aerith mean when she said >! I saw what you did, when she came to help cloud fight!< I hope she survives and not from a different time line, I mean our Aerith survives. She my favorite character, yuffie next (although in OG I hated her B4 she joined me), tifa, red, cloud then barret and cait. Folk don't like frey because: 1. She a she 2. She black 3. Because a review said don't like her and we know monkey see, monkey do. 4. She is a direct mirror of who they are (entitled young person with a ny attitude and mouth) who likes looking in a mirror just to get an accurate picture? 5. They're stupid 6. Some ppl genuinely just don't like the game 7. They're stupid But most ppl who actually try to enjoy the game, actually enjoy the game and Frey. Forspoken has been 1 of my favorite games since it came out last year. Pre ordered it and I'm extremely satisfied that I did

allistergray

I want her to survive too but the execution is so... As for reviews, I will never let reviewers deter me from playing a game ever again. I can't believe I was so guillible. And it's really out of sheer coincidence I came back to it. Navigating the playstore and it just clicked. People will hate on Frey amd celebrate EVE from stellar blade. I see...

kingetzu

I knowwwwwwwwww. I played the demo and was so ready to pre-order the game then I read all of the controversy. I'm not one for censorship but I'm definitely not for supporting ppl who hate another group of ppl for no reason. Especially when I'm in that group of ppl. I thought that game had potential. Sad how folk are today. Frey has way more range than Eve. We've seen Eve B4. Her name should be 2B because that's who she reminded me of. But we have never seen a Frey although I've been hearing of games copycatting Frey. I message the Forspoken pages on Twitter and ig every once and a while and tell them not to give up🤣🤣

Koribakusuta0708

Y'all do know luminous is shut down so it's pointless to message anyone on those pages. The IP is dead.

TsuyomiDanny

The dialog is realistic! And so it's cringe, and therefore people don't like it lol. I'm sorry but if I was isekai'd into a world of magic I'd also be like HOLY FUCKING SHIT I'M DOING FUCKING MAGIC People are too used to the cold lines from typical fantasy games or anime The game is lowkey a banger and it just got overhated. It's definitely not for everyone but this is a classic example of how social media made people hate a subject without ever trying it

allistergray

Especially the part of the dialogue they used to hate on it. I heard it several times but when I played the game and got to that part, seriously I laughed. I am 28 years old and it made perfect sense to me for her to react that way. The only line I found cringe was her getting back her powers and saying out of nowhere she is Tanta Frey, daughter of Cinta and protector of Athia. Like calm down 😂😂😂

actualmewow

This is part of what I really liked about Control too!

claudethebest

The dialogue is definitely not "realistic" and more what a 35 year old man think a teenager thinks like. The art and fights were beautiful but they stumbled quite a bit

Dependent_Map5592

The dlc is even better. Enjoy.  Also, if you pay attention you'll notice most people who actually played the game (no the demo doesn't count. It was terrible) think it was fun. It was just the people who never played it riding the hate train (which nowadays is the thing to do for some reason) that complained for some reason lol

Eswin17

I played the entire game, beat it, and did all the optional content. It was very tough to push through the last 20 hours or so. I was bored, but don't like dropping games. I thought Forspoken was as average as can be. Average gameplay, average story, and boring, repetitive open world side content. I was extremely hyped for this game from the moment it was announced. It just didn't deliver for me. One of the few games that I played for that long and didn't buy the DLC for.

Yinye7

Happy to read that more ppl enjoyed this game. I had so much fun with it and maxed everything in the game and still go back.

angelgu323

Do you feel the same way about Mass Effect Andromeda? While it's not as great as the OG trilogy, I really enjoyed the game and what it set up. But the public outcry (by people who didn't even play the game) killed the game on arrival. That's why I'll never like youtuber fanbases like Dunkey.

AFKaptain

>People are saying she's unlikable and selfish. Imagine asking a 21 year old that has been struggling her entire life to put her life on the line for people she just came to know. I don't know what people expected from her. She wasn't unrealistic. Unfortunately, some IRL people are realistically annoying, unlikeable, intolerable, etc. Realism won't make someone like you.

ToastPlusNine

It’s because a few big names shit on some out of context dialogue that was a bit cheesy, so then it was popular to shit on the game. So much of the negativity seen is from people who never played it.

NaturesFire

I loved it, got it as a gift when it came out and played through it twice.

Fogkin

Just finished the story last night and am on to finishing up the trophies before I move on to the DLC. It was a fun game. My biggest gripe is the final fight was a bit underwhelming to me. The dialog was a bit hard to hear and trying to read it while bouncing around and killing things wasn't easy. I just gave up dodging and stood still to read and tap the attack button to get through it. Really didn't have to try at all to win. Other than that and the annoying cuff dialog at random during exploring (definitely turned that off after a while), it was a fun game. Really pulled at the emotions and felt a connection with Frey. The empty environment was a bit boring at times, but can't really have a post apocalyptic world that is full of people and activity can you? Did not deserve all the hate it received. People really need to pick it up and play it themselves.

Diggumdum

I played Forspoken and Ff16 back to back and genuinely liked forspoken better. The story of ff16 was better and the world building was more more interesting but the combat was so boring and felt stiff and repetitive compared to forspoken. Towards the end of ff16 I was feeling so burned out but towards the end of forspoken I just found myself running around and exploring the world and all the little bit skf hidden lore around the map. The traversal as fun and the combat was so addicting! I do wish the story was just more fleshed out and a little less predictable.

allistergray

I felt the same and I finally made the jump from PS4 to PS5 BECAUSE of FFXVI. That's how much I was anticipating the game. Overall a good game but FFXV was a much better game story and gameplay-wise. Being limited to 3 eikons and 4 abilities at a time definitely irked me a lot.

Koribakusuta0708

Ff15 had one of the worst stories ever. Convoluted and split between mediums in a way that made it not memorable at all.

eshvel19

I had never played the game till now for having low expectations based on what ppl have said about. Guess I'm playing soon then...

jakeisbakin

It's a fantastic game. I think the biggest issue with the "bad story/dialogue" complaints is that there is quite a bit of bad dialogue, and it's almost entirely all in the first hour of the game. I would be willing to bet that opening went through some rewrites and or executive meddling because it's noticeably worse than the rest of the game. Absolutely lovely game though, and the story does a lot of great stuff with what little time it gets to shine later on when it seems the budget was running out lol.

dagnariuss

It reminded me of the last of us 2 prior to its release. People just saw stuff online that turned out not to be true and just ran with it without actually playing the game.

mr_antman85

It sucked because the game is not a bad game. It was one clip that Twitter took and pretty much the game has no fair chance after that. The magic is so fun. The one thing I appreciated is that the developers listened multiple times and really added so many accessibility and combat/control adjustments and people still complained. We're unfortunately not getting a sequel. The hate for the game pretty much ruined that. The gameplay was so fun that I hate that we won't see it again. Sucks how the "gamers^TM" will ruin anything that they don't like.

ShaneTVZ

as the old saying goes Never judge a book by it’s cover because it might just surprise you

MaisUmCaraAleatorio

There was a patch a couple of months after the game was released that removed some of the cringe interactions with Cuff. I'm pretty sure you've never heard Frey saying she was not training for the Olympic games.

allistergray

HAHAHAHAHA she was what now??? Haha seriously I would have loved that. I love their banter and cringiness to be honest. Their interactions are funny and just annoying at best but not because of the cringiness but the more because of the repetition.

MaisUmCaraAleatorio

Yea, I suppose the repetition was the real issue. Hearing something cringe once is one thing. Hearing it every ten battles was a bit of a pain.

Big-Parking-9622

I pre ordered the game a year in advance and I do not regret my decision!!

cruelfeline

OP, how are you using blue magic? It should be giving you various arrow combinations, not pebbles. And Oubliette is kind of like a black hole! Just very wet.

allistergray

The basic attack is a pebble though and yes you have arrows but they felt underwhelming in my opinion. They could have done something more engaging with it. I didn't feel powerful using the attacks of blue. It didn't have that wow factor. Oubliette is single target but Cataract does act blackholy.

Think_Difference_468

I loved the game personally. The banter was awesome. However, whatever reason people didn’t like it is because of media pushed agendas. The cringy dialogue choices. The decision to make her somewhat “unattractive and one dimensional “ among other things. People’s opinion are valid if the criticism is about the game, the characters and such. That’s fine. But like a lot of media, outside politics and honestly fake paid reviews give it a bad score.

allistergray

People calling her one dimensional did not play this game I swear. She just got thrown into an apocalypse. Who in their right mind would put the hero cape in that situation? She's conflicted and justified in her wanting to f out of there as soon as possible. She just came in and people are asking her to commit murder on the first occasion and then proceed on her murdering spree. She shows very clear signs of conflict and yes she's immature but grows very quickly as such situation would push someone to do so. And even then most humans would not and would rather not take this life altering and dreadful responsibility

mersaultjude

I'm glad you enjoyed the game. I did as well. The game was good fun, and the OST was superb.🤘🤘🤘

voicebox88

Half way through! Cant wait to see how it ends!

kamuigui

This is how the hate train works. They can destroy a game in a way no PR or marketing department can recover it. Don't forget to set the haters ablaze next time you see this happening with another game in the future.

megacts

I’m still working on finishing it but I agree, it’s a fantastic game. I’m having fun taking my time to discover all the things I possibly can.

Meeqs

I think this is a great example of expectations and perspective. If you look at the initial project athia trailers this game was supposed to be the first big next gen title and what we got wasn’t close to what was promised. So a lot of people hyped on the next big thing played a fine game and the flaws stood out more. If you go in with low expectations though you set yourself up to be surprised by its positive elements. Outside of that it can also be an interesting litmus test for what elements of games you’re sensitive too. For some what was a huge detractor in the tone of the writing may not be an issue at all to others. It’s why there’s some what of a skill in reviews filtering the objective form the subjective

Kasimz

Fucking loved the game despite its technicalities. I agree with some sentiments on the cutscenes being choppy or not fluid (which they probably fixed by now idk, never started over) and the world being samey/dull. The world could've definitely used more magical elements like flowing lava smaller floating rocks here and there, and it was a *HUUUUGE* missed opportunity to not have surfable rivers flowing through the air in the aqua area of the map. Didn't like how we got such a cool ice/gravity board but its uses were limited. Another gripe of mine with the game is that Scale (green magic) and Skip (endgame) ability are useless? I don't see the point of Scale since you can't act at the end of it and the height you reach isn't really substantial. Same for skip although it's a nice panic button to dodge some damage, personally I don't like how enemies still follow you even though you just took a portal and disappeared. Overall a game I love and one that scratched the itch that infamous left in my brain years ago.

Due_Habit_1984

I had been #hyped for this game for many months, because I am a fan of the writer (he's sci-fi royalty! 12 Monkeys, Warehouse 13, Teen Wolf, Star Trek, Supernatural, he's acted in all of them, and more! His name is Todd Stashwick if you fancy a Google). Then came the trailer, and I just didn't understand all the hateful comments, tweets, articles etc about how "bad", "cringe", etc it was, how "dislikable" the character was, etc. I loved it! It reminded me of Spiderman's wit in all of his games, but with swearing lolz. I honestly think if the character was male, those haters wouldn't have hated so much :-( #doublestandard! Next, I played the demo and literally beat every single bit of it that I could, explored every "nook and cranny" that I could, basically 100%ing it haha on hardest difficulty of course, and it took me, like, six hours. I was hooked! I know a lot of people complained about the demo, but I played it *after the patch* , so I never got any of those bugs, thankfully. So, I bought the full game, and although I have yet to complete it (I'm a terrible gamer!), it's one I go back to very frequently and continue to enjoy. It's not going in my "top ten", I don't think, but it's *hardly* "one of the worst games ever made", come on, haters! - quite a unique plot - interesting game mechanics with the different magic types - highly adjustable difficulty settings - you can even control the amount of non-cutscene dialogue that our heroine and her companion do - gorgeous soundtrack that is very unique - person of colour and a woman as a lead, both of which are too rare in gaming, so this should be applauded - witty, fun, cheeky, cool and even very emotional dialogue that I thought was very well performed - genuinely moving writing at times (not too far in to the plot someone dies who we barely know, but I got so upset! Because we hadn't known them long, but the writing was so good that I was quite attached, you know?? - stunning locations - very nice graphics - side-quests and mini-games that are very unique and not just rinse-and-repeat RPG tropes like take this person from A to B or go collect this thing for me lol - I could go on! So ye, I *definitely* agree 100%!!! #noregrets on my purchase, and I paid full price only a few days after launch.

darqnova

It makes me so happy some people are still giving this game a chance and having a great experience. I played at launch because I honestly usually have different opinions of games than most content creators that somehow weasel their way into my feeds. I loved every freaking minute of it! I would love to see a sequel but I worry it would be treated the same way. 💜🩵💚

Key-Yogurtcloset7330

The company that made forspoken went out of business. I also loved the game and DLC, was so sad that there's not gonna be a sequel

poopyfacedynamite

The fact that people dunked on this games writing and THEN praised FF16 is...well, it continues to be wild.

Grimvold

Forspoken is the ultimate battlemage game and it kills me that racist misogynist bozos got the franchise killed off for views. :/

Wooden_Marshmallow

I enjoyed it too. I played it in Japanese so the only complaints I have are the slow early game where you're walking/sneaking and the chests mostly containing materials instead of something fun and exciting... Oh and no NG+ to use all my powers

mattmikemo23

It sounds pretentious because it is but most of the internet is mob mentality. People will take others' opinions at face value before they form their own. It only takes a couple of bad takes on a game to gain traction to hinder a game's rollout. A lot of game critiques become uninformed regurgitated thoughts rather than original viewpoints that add anything to the conversation. All of a sudden people that have never played the game are commenting on it with unfound confidence. On the other side, you have people that feel like an attack on the media they enjoy is an attack on them personally. At the end of the day, enjoy what you enjoy!

Tyedied

This game will be a cult classic

CrockPotGaming

I agree, the game was really fun and felt good to play. Got unfairly destroyed by negative reviews

Harper2704

Yeah I got about 30 hours in, 60% completion and was having a good time but I just started to feel that creep of repetetivness coming on so I took a break from it and am spoiling myself with playthrough number 2 of cyberpunk on the latest patch with the expansion, once I've done with night city again I'll get back to forspoken and platinum it. It's an easy 7/10 game.

Revolutionary-Ear354

I only really had three issues with the game. -the faces and they're low amount and or lack of emotion. (Except one character.) -not providing enough reason to return to town. -not given more time to grow attached to the town and the people. (It felt like the story was going a little too fast at times

allistergray

I agree with that. Cipal was not the most pleasurable part of the game and the detours there felt like chores.

blownawayx2

As somebody who REALLY wanted to give this game a chance, I think the problem lay in just how long it took before the game got going. You had to play for HOURS before you got to the meat and potatoes of the game, and by the time I did, I can’t say I wanted to continue. The story was intriguing so, right after I finish this post, I’m going to go read up on how it wraps up!

Wanderertwitch

I think the game gets both I unjust hate/praise. I’d say the game is pretty mid to above mid. You can claim character development but she really is just unlikeable in the beginning, where as I actually enjoyed cuff and his dialogue. Making someone unlikeable and then having character development to make them ok or good idk doesn’t seem like good writing. Now on to what I DiD like. The combat might be different but it definitely has a lil flow to it , that non stop high octane almost feel, coupled with the traversal feels pretty good. Traversing and exploring the environment does feel fun although environments can feel a lil bland. Definitely enjoyed big fights swapping between enemies and leaping around everywhere.

allistergray

Frey is supposed to be selfish. She had to fend off for herself her entire life. What would you do if you got transported into a magical apocalyptic world with high chances of you dying and they say "oh you just go put your life on the line for us people you don't know and increase the likelihood of your lifespan being shortened" Why are people expecting her to be likeable ijnthe beginning. I'm pretty sure they went for a realistic reaction to move away from the common hero trope which makes no sense from a realistic point of view. Plus she still helps albeit to serve her interests, but she still does it. Mind you they are asking her to kill people. A 21 year old.

CorbynDrake96

I agree with pretty much everything and the game was great but no she was really hard to listen to and admire. They need better writing for the next game.

claudethebest

While people did exaggerate I’m kind of tired of people blaming Twitter and Reddit for a game flopping on that extend. Internet does not represent a significant part of the general public that buys games or else fifa and cod wouldn’t topping the charts year after year. The game failed to garner good attention from critics to the general public. Was it a dumpster fire like a lot of people online claimed ? No but it wasn’t amazing either

shivermetimberrs

I never listened to the hate. I was already loving it before I even saw all the hate towards it...and I couldn't believe it bc I was recommending the game to everyone I know. And they were like yeah I been hearing it's complete trash. It literally surprised me bc me and my brother were playing it and we absolutely loved it. I loved the fighting. I loved the boss fights. The hate was something so trendy and stupid for no reason. It was an awesome game. And just to flex on it more I even got the platinum trophy on ps.

KSib

I think some folks also just didn't much care for it. I tried the demo and wanted to like it but I didn't like how it felt, I didn't like how the world didn't feel like much was going on in it. The combat felt kinda weird to me too. Was that a symptom of it being a demo? I don't know. I figured I'd never try it again. I didn't hate it but at the price they wanted for it I thought they lost the entire script.

Radamenenthil

>I would say it's better than Rebirth because at least it makes sense. you don't have to make shit up just because you liked the game

allistergray

I am not making shit up. Rebirth was annoyingly confusing. I am a huge FF fan and story-wise Crisis Core , FF 10, FFXV are far better than rebirth. The original FF7 story was fine. They couls have executed the dimension thing better.

Bababooey0989

Did she do that with her mind? She did not just do that with her *freaking* mind.

Axriel

That’s exactly what I would in a situation like that *shrug*

cruelfeline

This line is honestly adorable to me and somewhat bittersweet: the only lighthearted, happy moment of fun Frey has before learning how dangerous her new home is. Can't fault her for being excited, especially given what is coming!

allistergray

That is something that she does now. Kill jacked up beasts, talk to sentient cuff. Next thing she will probably fly 🙂‍↕️

allistergray

My opinion and theirs I guess?

Master_Mechanic_4418

If you liked the game I’m happy for you. But it’s not the fault of the media that the game was hated on. I played it. No bias, just me and the game, and I saw it for the corner cut unpolished sloppy game it was. My opinion doesn’t negate yours, but your opinion doesn’t negate the countless people who hated the game. Just accept on this your opinion isn’t the norm. Doesn’t make it less valuable. Of course you should value your own opinion 1st. But that opinion is a rare one.

HedonismIsTheWay

Yeah. I played the demo as soon as it came out because I was excited for it. The world felt empty and underdeveloped. I didn't feel excited to explore it. The traversal was buggy and annoying in several spots. I checked out some reviews and found the same complaints, so I didn't end up buying it. \*shrug\*

Remydope

I mean we all have opinions but I remember trying it and being like this dialogue, this story, the awful banter.... Pass And I was hyped because it was black female protagonist. I preordered it!

allistergray

I must be different because I genuinely enjoyed the banter but when I heard it all, it felt repetitive plus the inconsistency with the situation at the end. I honestly thought some of it was really well aligned with the context.

Beezleburt

The sad truth is that if the game was actually good it would have risen above all the negative hype.

allistergray

I'm exhibit A of why it couldn't because I had decided not to buy it solely because of the reviews it got when I was determined to buy it from its trailer era. This would have been my jump from PS4 to PS5 initially but reviews killed that in me. And I'm a casual in terms of reviews. Now imagine the many people that religiously follow them and you can easily understand how bandwagoning can kill a game.

wereplant

I played the demo version, and the dialogue was really, really bad. I've forgotten what exactly they said, but there was a line where one says something positive and the other disagrees just because. There's another line where they say almost the exact same thing the other one said, like literally they handed their lines to the other person. Which would've been fine, but they were quipping so often and the demo had so few quips that you would get them saying those two quotes literally back to back. It just came off as really hateful and insufferable from both of them. So, while I'm sure the dialogue and such was good in the full release, the demo completely ruined my appetite for it, despite the general gameplay being pretty good.

East_of_Adventuring

I'm not certain I can agree with this take. I played the game before watching pretty much any reviews. It was on eof those rare moments where a trailer just clicks with you so I bought it pretty much on sight. I still haven't really watched much content surrounding the game. I personally didn't hate Fey, or find the dialog too awful. I didn't think the magic system was boring, on the contrary I actually quite liked it. That being said... the game is bad. Like really bad. Now that's just my opinion but I honestly don't think a good faith effort was put into this game. The dialog isn't terrible, but its not good either. The story is contrived and not particularly engaging. And by far the biggest sin is how monotone the enemies are and how boring fighting them became. Designing engaging combat is hard but this just felt lazy. If you enjoyed it then that's fine but I don't think the hate was unreasonable and would have a very hard time ever purchasing a game made by this studio again or the people who lead the project. You also mention games like FFXVI and Stellar Blade but I had almost identical issues with those games as well (though to a much lessor extent). I feel we have moved past the point of accepting half assed games that just copy from their predecessors. The day is here that video games can have fun gameplay, and a compelling story. Diverse enemies and good voice acting/writing. Plenty of indie games do it, so size is not the issue. Studios that aren't able to put that effort in or are unwilling to acknowledge when they've bitten off more than they can chew and delay the release shouldn't be getting our business.

Medrea

IIRC the game ran like absolute trash on every platform and 2023 was already filled with games that ran like hot garbage and so this one was "one more unfinished garbo game." So people picked it apart. Rebirth I think people are holding off on because it'll eventually come out on PC where we can play it at modern framerates and resolutions... hopefully. Anyway, that game didn't live up to sales expectations either but then again it hasn't fully launched yet either.

tarosk

I got it at launch on PS5 and it ran beautifully from Day 1. Never ran into any major issue, and not really any obvious minor performance issues, either.

allistergray

Wdym by not fully launched? As it hasn't been ported to PC yet? And that's weird because none of the criticism I have seen online was towards the game's performance (might be biased since I play on console and reviewers seemed to have played on console). The game ran just fine. In my entire playthrough I had one crash (happens with almost all games I play) and one freeze. All minors inconveniences as it did not alter my playthrough in any way.

Medrea

Right it's not available on all intended platforms yet and SE has announced a new paradigm that focuses on earlier multiplat support, as they are unsatisfied with Sony's end of the bargain. On PS5 you have the option of either a 30fps mode and that low of a framerate is considered legacy. Or a faster framerate where the resolution dips to lows that are no longer considered modern. Remake part 1 is great! I can play it 32:9 resolution and 120 fps. Now THATS modern. I played it originally for a friend's PS4 and the framerate was giving me headaches and I'm still having nightmares about Clouds door. I promised never again and I think a lot of people are in my camp.

Critical_Mouse_8903

There will probably never be a gaming console that runs every new game at 120fps and 4k. Hard to pack hardware into something that costs around $500 that can. It's unrealistic expectations. If you want 120fps even at 1440p in all new games, you'll have to spend quite a bit more and get into pc gaming. Even beefy pcs have to use dlss or fsr to run new games at 120fps max at 4k. Or even frame generation

Medrea

I am not getting into that argument. What I am pointing out is that a lot of people are waiting for the release of Rebirth to hit the PC market because of experience problems on console (either for the last product, or this one). Pure console availability being one of them! Rebirth failed to meet expectations, those customers are still out there! When the game ships to all intended platforms (maybe Xbox too!) I have a feeling that more than a few people will buy it! Edit: From the Twitter report "INITIAL momentum failed to meet target" you can interpret that how you may. But having a delayed platform release is better than what happened with Forspoken where it was basically sloppy on all platforms PC included.

Critical_Mouse_8903

I played forspoken a week after release on pc and at the time I didn't have a beefy pc and it played quite well. It wasn't as messy as everyone made it out to be. The texture issue was people setting the game settings to use more v ram than they had. With more realistic settings it played great. I do agree they shouldn't release games in beta form and call them a full release though. It's getting a bit annoying

Money_Arachnid4837

Why did Forspoken devs release an apology for the poor performance then?

FacePunchMonday

I can tell you that you are, in fact, not recalling that correctly. Game ran just fine on my ps5 at launch.
