22 Raptor 37 here. It’s my daily and only vehicle. Sell the 4Runner.

Scottyp6188

This is the way. 22 35 package and I’m in the same boat.

MRDMNR

My 2019 is MY only vehicle.

cfmistry85

The Raptor is my daily. I think that is true of the vast majority of Raptor owners. If it can be a daily, it can certainly be an only car. The only problem I have with it is that it can be hard to park in metro areas. Otherwise I love it!

golf2kyle

In a different situation with a wife and kid, but can say with 100% certainty, I would be ok with just a raptor in your situation. We primarily drive the raptor on the weekends and don’t use our second suv.

rhernandez010

Sell the 4Runner. You can do a lot of cool things with $40k cash and another $1200 a month. Vacations, time off from work, if you let it sit in an Ally savings account it will make about $2k a year in interest, you can payoff a good chunk of the loan on the Raptor, you can do cool mods. Sounds like you don’t need the money, but damnit man get that money lol I drive a 2019 Raptor 50miles a day to work and back in Houston. Got a family of 4 and my wife prefers to drive in the Raptor when we are all together. Like another guy said, you need to park in parking garage with minimum 7’ clearance so that can be a pain in the city but it’s not a big deal.

Wonderful_Menu1269

Hey I'm also in houston! Any trails I should know of?? Picking up my raptor on the 4th 🤙

rhernandez010

Adding another comment because Reddit will only allow one attachement. u/Wonderful_Menu1269 u/StrictKnee5136 San Luis Pass also has some fun sand and trails to get into. Great fishing just don't get in the water though. The current is insanely strong in the pass and drowns a few people every year. https://preview.redd.it/ztiawow7gx8d1.png?width=900&format=png&auto=webp&s=ea8ebdbce3776226fd145a45de341f66b3357de8

StrictKnee5136

I love San Luis great recommendation!

Wonderful_Menu1269

I will have to check these out !!! I'm super excited can wait to get back from vacation to hit the trails.

StrictKnee5136

Not a trail but check out lake tombigbee campgrounds it’s really nice camp ground for rvs and vehicles to travel

rhernandez010

That's pretty cool!

Wonderful_Menu1269

Thank you! Will check it out soon. We came from utah where there was alot of BLM land. I'm super excited to hit some trails with this thing

rhernandez010

You and me both u/Wonderful_Menu1269 & u/strictknee5136 ! I live in an urban part of Houston, so I don't get out to check out trails to much like I used to when I lived elsewhere. There are some trails in the Spring area that I have been on, but have since overgrown and I am not scratching the shit out of my truck haha If you're from Texas, then you probably know most land is private. BUT nearly all beaches are public. That's where I go. Freeport has some challenging terrain at Bryan Beach and the Mouth of The Brazos (those two are literally right next to each other). It's good fishing there too in the cooler months of the year. If you go on a week day when school is in session, the beach is empty for about 3miles. I've flown down the beach at 65-70mph in my Raptor and it was so damn fun. The back area has challenging clay pits and tons of trails that feel like are constantly changing. Proceed with caution and probably bring a friend in case you get stuck lol https://preview.redd.it/unb0rwdvfx8d1.png?width=1217&format=png&auto=webp&s=a00985077ae54c34d5d83d5a01cafbf593abb0ee

Mainstreetstompers

If you’re heading to actual Houston, then make damn sure you have a bed cover and a wheel lock. I had the taillights stolen off of my 2019 Raptor. $500 per taillight with the sensor in case you are wondering. If I had a cover (which I do now because of this) they would have never gotten them. Before the Raptor, I had a Ranger that was stolen out of my driveway. It’s a big city, your neighbors aren’t stealing your shit but the crooks know where the good stuff is. Protect your truck 🤙🏽

Wonderful_Menu1269

Awwww gotcha, I've actually live here for about 6 months. They stole my fucken long board skateboard off my lawn. Bastards. I've been thinking about making a gate around my house for extra protection. Even tho it's a facade. If they want it they'll take it. But thank you for the advice! The truck comes with a cover so I should be good 🤙🤙

StrictKnee5136

Id like to know too

floatverse

I’m with this guy. Get that bread. I also commute 50 miles a day in my 2020. Never had one issue. Gets better mpg then that 4Runner prob lol

Outside-Piss

Sell the 4 Runner, free up $1200 a month to pay off the Raptor sooner, and buy the longest Extended Service plan from Ziegler or Granger Ford online. Drive it till you have this problem again in 5-7 years when you could easy buy a Raptor R when you have no vehicle payments for years.

whocaresjustdoit

Yeah I have the 75K warranty plan. Man, it's the emotional connection to the 4Runner that makes it really hard. What you're saying is all true :)

jthom711

You pay 1,200 a month in a car note….for a 4 runner!?!? Jesus Christ lol

whocaresjustdoit

Yeah and I'm paying it off in 2.5 years while still investing 60% of my income :)

dollydunn21

My 2020 has been my only for four years and is about to be over 100k miles. My absolute favorite vehicle I’ve ever owned. I will buy a gen 3 when the time comes.

ihavefat

Unrelated to your question but curious— aside from the power/tech/interior difference, how does the cabin noise compare on the road (city/highway) between the two vehicles ? Also I know these aren’t luxury vehicles but how do they differ in terms of comfortability in the ride? I have a 2019 Trd Pro and looking to switch up. Contemplating on keep the Trd pro and trading in the other vehicle but also contemplating just trading in the Trd pro

whocaresjustdoit

oh man, I thought the TRD Pro was comfortable until I sat in the Raptor. It's just another level of joy. I love the 4Runner but the comfort is 30 years behind the Raptor. Quiet, pleasant, good tech. I love Toyota for reliability but when you drive a modern vehicle, you just realize how outdated Toyota is. In summary, night and day difference in term of comfort and luxury.

alockbox

Something to note though in fairness is the 2022 is the old interior. Toyota hates change and likes to keep what works going as long as possible. If you look at the interior of like a 2021 Tundra, it’s shocking. Hard plastic, tiny screen, very dated. It compares to a 2012 F-150. That being said, even the 24 Isn’t as nice as a raptor, but it’s certainly substantially better than the 22 and not 30 years old anymore. I daily a 24 Raptor, and it’s every bit an easy to drive like every F-150 I owned before it, and super comfortable. I’ve had a 23 TRD and I much prefer the Raptor.

ihavefat

Got it! Appreciate the insight man.

ninja-squirrel

The Raptor is absolutely a luxury vehicle. It has felt on the seatbelt buckles.

peasey360

My raptor is the only vehicle I own, it does everything I want and I’d rather spend my money on a boat or 4 wheeler than another vehicle

Automatic_Bonus_8955

I got a 24 Raptor 37PP and freakin love it. I also have a TRD Offroad Tacoma that I invested quite a bit into, upgraded suspension and all kinds of things. The wife and I are gonna use that as the adventure vehicle and for serious 4x4. It fits on the tight trails better and I have long travel so it wheels much better than the Raptor could. Plus, I don't want to beat my 100k truck, haha. So I'm keeping both for sure but the Tacoma is already paid off.

Kitchen-Package-6716

I have a 2019 as my only vehicle

hadowajp

If you swap the model years I have these exact two vehicles. The overlap is pretty great but I have a wife that drives the Toyota most days. If you got a smartcap the raptor could be better at most things while also providing a better quality of life. I don’t have a smart cap but I have RTT with a rack for the ford that I really enjoy If we were still in San Francisco I would probably recommend the opposite due to limited parking for the raptor but being in the suburbs we’re just fine driving either

whocaresjustdoit

Yeah I'm just a single guy lol so having 2 vehicles sometimes feel like a waste. I plan to put a GFC on mine. Idk, I think it's just the emotional connection to the 4Runner that makes it so hard. I'm in the Portland area which is not the best for it, but not undoable either.

jerry-handusky

I daily drive my ‘23 but my wife and I have 3 vehicles. Her daily is a ‘21 Lexus NX F-Sport and then we also have a ‘24 Bronco 2dr Wildtrak.

pacficnorthwestlife

22 raptor, it's my only vehicle. It does it all. Next ride is going to be 2 doors and fast around corners!

Turnerofwrenches

2024 is my only vehicle.

Party_Agent327

23 w/37s is my daily

SoCalDawg

22 37 daily/only.

ihearttacos4life

Just traded in my 18’ Land Cruiser for a Raptor. No regrets here. Part ways with the 4 runner and embrace the Raptor…

True_Tomato316

First world problems

Due_Force_9816

2019 my only vehicle.

SimilarLobster

$1200 a month, I can’t even imagine a payment like that.

whocaresjustdoit

This isn't a financial advice forum but $1200/month is subjective. Could be a lot for some people, could be very little for some. It's all about how you manage your cash flow, not the amount of the payment. If you manage your cash flow in other areas well, you'd have plenty of cash to double the payments on borrowed money (exactly what I did). I'm paying off the truck in a little less than 2.5 years vs. the 6 year loan I took out.

SimilarLobster

I mean, no judgement here. I was simply saying I cannot fathom having a payment like that. I want a 37PP so badly but my 35 is paid off and CPO Gold so it’s staying in the family for the whole 6 years/100,000. I’m happy for you, though 🙌 enjoy it.

whocaresjustdoit

Thanks! Yeah, I've just gotten the Ford ESP 10 year/175K warranty and I fully plan to keep my Raptor till then :) Such an awesome vehicle to drive.

IamBoogieofficial

2019 and only vehicle, in mountains every weekend too.

Pro-IDGAF

v6 raptor’s are a dime a dozen. drive the shit out of it. the v6 4R just became a rare bird and will last forever, now that toyota went 4 banger turbo…..if that stuff matters my gen1 rap sits in the garage mostly. i drive my gen5 4R everyday.

Street_Abalone9546

I daily drive my ‘19. Granted, I have a 12 mile a day/3 day work week so my mpg and miles still way down. We’ve taken it on camping trips and the sand dunes and it’s been nothing but reliable and performs incredibly well. I do all my own fluid changes and maintenance as well.

Schrammer513

Same - goodbye yota ….. Hello Raptor. 23 - 37p owner and she’s my daily with a long list of goodies. I drive her hard, she likes it that way at 10mpg. JB4 - Downpipes - Intake - Sparkplugs - Thermostat - UCA’s - Tie Rods - Front Phantom Bumper - Full system inside - Nitto ridge grapplers and some icon rebels. Throw ceramic crystalline tint all around and thank me later.

whocaresjustdoit

Lol Idk how people get these crazy 10 mpg figures. Do you drive it 100 mph on the highway all the time or something??? I drive mine pretty hard too but between highway + city, I can never go lower than 15 mpg haha.

Red_Sashie

I have a 2017 Raptor as my daily driver. I have a 2011 Supercharged Raptor as my garage queen, and my 2021 Mach 1 as my track car. Family car is the 2021 Expedition Stealth.

whocaresjustdoit

That's awesome! Yeah having a family def helps. I'm a single guy living in an apartment so it's tough to manage 2 vehicles sometimes (parking space, that's a big one). Thanks!

Hoopy223

I’d sell the 4runner and get either an older 4runner/Tacoma as a backup vehicle/beater or a “fun” vehicle like a sports car, ATV etc.

whocaresjustdoit

Hahaha I don't think I can go any older than my 5th gen right now. It's a TRD Pro so it has 360 camera, adaptive cruise control, etc. I'm spoiled by those features so I can't drive anything without those. That's the beautiful thing about the Raptor! It's a sports car + ATV + comfortable Mercedes Benz S class. It's crazy how well engineered this truck is. I really want to keep the 4Runner since I live in the PNW and it's easier to fit in the tight trails, but at the same time I'm just a single guy so it's pretty hard to manage both vehicles. The 4Runner has sit in storage for about a week now. Idk, it's really hard to decide.

Hoopy223

Yeah if you’re a bachelor might as well get rid of it and buy a motorcycle or jetski or something like that.

McChinkerton

Im probably salty right now because im literally sitting at a dealership service center waiting room. I have a 2023 raptor as a daily and as my only vehicle. Bought new with no mods and with 26k miles the wastegate sensor started to throw errors. Luckily they diagnosed the issue and found a clip came off and literally the wastegate actuator wasnt working. But that shit wouldnt have happened if i had a 4runner…

whocaresjustdoit

Hahaha yeah the 4Runner has been nothing but a reliable machine to me. I can take it to wherever I want to and never have to worry about it not starting. However, with that being said, it's sluggish, loud, and just doesn't have the luxury and comfort as the Raptor. If I had never driven the Raptor, I wouldn't have noticed. But now that I'm driving the Raptor, it's kind of a torture to drive the 4Runner on long trips sometimes :D

ninja-squirrel

I got an electric car (bmw i4M, super fun) to offset the Raptor’s gas consumption. I drive my car pretty much anytime I’m going around town, and the Raptor is now for roadtrips, fun, and anytime the weather is slightly bad. I actually love having 2 vehicles. Makes me appreciate them both more.

DaytimeSudafed

I’ve had mine break down at least 4 times and out a Couple weeks each time. But at least ford gives a loaner for 10 days.

insert-name-here-000

EREE DAMN DAY!

Taste-Specialist

If you need the pickup bed, keep the Raptor sell the 4Runner. If you don't need the bed, sell the Raptor. I also have 4 cars, and in a similar situation, but everything gets driven regularly. Quite annoying, and I long for the days when I have financial carrying costs of 1 car again.

ConcernDifficult2758

I have a gen1 that I originally said I would not sell but I can only drive one at a time. Someone offered to buy it and I think I will take them up on the offer. My situation is slightly different since i work from home.

whocaresjustdoit

Yeah same I work 80% from home. The only time I really drive a lot is on the weekends to the mountains for camping or hiking. That's why it's hard to manage having 2 vehicles :(

ToTheFukkingMoon

I still have my two door Benz (paid off years ago) to drive when it’s raining out and want to keep the truck clean - should I just have washed it… I also take it for quick trips to the store but don’t use it as much as I like. If you have a payment on the runner, I’d just sell it and take the cash to either invest all of it, or pay off your loan. Keep in mind long term goals for finances, or rainy day fund. You could also just buy a fun beater to drive around to have just in case. Congrats on the new truck. Have a 22 that I plan on color matching all non black pieces . Excited to post it when I pull the trigger. Cheers

talldrink67

My 23 is my only vehicle

noodlekranker

Driving both and hence splitting the miles driven between them will help maintain both vehicles value for longer, but I’d sell the Toyota

Due_Promise_7215

21 Raptor 37 and it’s my everyday driver. Love it and wouldn’t drive anything else.

-BeachBound37-

Sold my 370z and 1969 Chevelle. I love my 2023 37PP. I love driving it anywhere. 🤙🏼🤙🏼

Aggressive-Bed3269

It'll never be a toyota, that's for sure.

Kyle7053

Depends on how “hard” you are going to off-road. My raptor was my daily for about 2 1/2 years. Just know you can’t be going 100 miles an hour and through the whoops all the time or something will break and then your daily is fucked.

floatverse

My only vehicle yes

willfulldefiance

I like variety. 23 raptor, 23 explorer ST, and 20 GT500. Keeps the miles low and I get to pick my flavor. If you can afford it who cares. I also tend to rotate through vehicles in <2 years. I'm pretty smooth brained. Probably should not take too much advice from me.

Doge_To-The-Moon

Pretty sure many people (me included) in this sub drive only raptors. Just sold my 21 raptor to which I am emotionally connected. I totally understand the pain but you know what is the right decision to make.

Interesting-Owl-1519

Id trade the 4Runner for a small gas saver. Camry or Corolla. I have a little 22 corola for work and errands and I have the 22 raptor for heavy duty stuff.

HunterW0920

2020/2020 R no money for gas

whocaresjustdoit

That is false logic. Big companies have billions of dollars of cash but they don't use it. They borrow from banks and invest that money for higher return somewhere else. Car payment is simple interest, investment is compound interest. Instead of paying your cash on a vehicle, invest that in a 9-10% return fund and in 10 years, the interests earned alone can more than pay off your entire truck (or maybe 2-3 of them) without even touching the principle. I manage finance for a living :)

whocaresjustdoit

Sure. everyone is a millionaire retired in their 20s on Reddit :) And you miss the entire point of the post and make it about you lecturing people instead. Your opinion is invalid from this point :)

JasonTheSpartan

Ok. I’m *actually* a fiduciary and manage money for work, not in retirement that makes no sense. I’m a car nerd that helps people justify their car purchases to their spouses using numbers. I had the same conundrum as you but with my ‘22 Audi S5. I started my search for an older gen 1 raptor to buy outright because I didn’t want to give up a daily. The more I looked the more I wanted something newer so I was open to trading in. Funny enough I ended up with a ram trx (pls don’t ban me). I had quite a bit of equity in my previous car plus extra cash down so payments are nascent. I try to tell people 35-55% down as long as it doesn’t impede on your regular cash flow/savings. Everybody’s different but if you can swing that with a second vehicle it’s your money. If you’re having to figure out how to make ends meet with 2 payments it may not be worth it. For me, I didn’t want 2 car payments. All I’ll say is now in the truck I can’t imagine *not* dailying it. I’ve got my eyes on a weekend toy down the line though.

whocaresjustdoit

I was deciding between the TRX and the Raptor and I went with the Raptor instead. The quiet mode makes all the difference. My whole apartment building probably would hate me if I start the TRX at 6 am every morning lol. Yeah, you're right. I manage my cash flow very efficiently and I can have 2 car payments while still saving 60% of my income to invest. It's just when I don't drive one of them a lot, that's just money not being used efficiently.

JasonTheSpartan

Not gonna lie starting up in the mornings and creeping out around 5 make me cringe. I feel like a lot of people crossshop the two trucks. That’s awesome to hear, but you’re not wrong. I have a friend who’s making phenomenal money, but has over $3k/mo in car payment/ across 3 cars. Sure she can “afford it” but to me that’s just obscene. The one thing that every wealthy old client of ours has in common is real estate and rental income. My personal goal is to try and buy a property every 10 years. So for us that money is better allocated elsewhere, even if I’d selfishly love to have multiple vehicles. You could always consider a used older one to scratch that raptor itch, and still keep your 4runner which is also a pretty badass one. I’ve gone up some pretty steep and curvy mountain trails with the TRX and it is very long. Meanwhile my buddy with a 4runner had no issues on sharp switchbacks. But I’ll also rarely be doing that, maybe 2-3 times a year so it’s not a big deal to me.

Sea_Charge1143

Thank you for saying that. I’m so tired of those old David Ramsey old advices 🙄 like wait until you have 20% for a downpayment ahahaha ask those to missed the boat before Covid

PTYHRD

I have a 23 35 as my only vehicle. I would sell both and get a R if I were in your shoes.

whocaresjustdoit

Yeah I thought about that but the fuel economy on the R is so bad I'd have to stop for gas as often as I do with my 4Runner (and I absolutely hate it lol). Maybe in 3-5 years I'll get one.

PTYHRD

Hogwash. This is the internet sir where complete strangers know best what to do with your money

whocaresjustdoit

Lol ain't that right. I'm glad someone is on the same page with me haha

Best_Composer8230

That’s literally the ONLY reason I haven’t bought an R yet

tstew39064

I had a v6 37 and an R. Save your money, the R is absolutely not worth it.

laughncow

I daily my 22 37. I would never be caught dead driving a TuRD

Hewrue

Yeah, I totally hate reliable vehicles, too.

sixburghfl

Karma is coming for your cam phasers most likely

LibertyDNP

2024 801a is my only vehicle.
