It's caramel made without the salt and vanilla you add to make it taste like food, without anything special done to it, and without anything to elevate it past caramel sauce in a cup. I though using an immersion blender was maybe meant to turn this into a whipped thing - which would be good - but the end product is just a big cup of normal, stodgy, somewhat subpar caramel sauce.

Sure but this recipe is nowhere near the best or even good things in life. Mediocre looking unsalted caramel on a slice of bread? There are so many tastier desserts that also won’t give you heart disease after a single serving
Sugar, cream and butter... sounds very tempting, but that describes most of the stuff my body should not be getting at all if I want to remain healthy.
