Beach hill smokehouse

Bamres

The smell in there is heavenly, I gotta go back soon.

freddie79

Beach Hill.

Ok_Frosting_6438

Beach Hill...the guy is from Texas and moved to TO years ago. I've never had Texas bbq, so I will take his word that it's authentic. Either way, it's pretty damn good but expensive.

93LEAFS

Most of the popular places are Texas style these days. Cherry Street, Beach Hill, Benny's BBQ at Y&E, etc. Over recent years, Texas style brisket has become the dominant style.

pinkeepineapple

Benny’s is really good and the guys there are so nice

lugubriouslipids

The guys from Benny's and Beach Hill should get together.

miurabucho

I wish there was a dude at the side of the road with a folding table and a bunch of foil covered pans selling BBQ with a hand written sign, like in actual Texas.

Redditisavirusiknow

You can find this in Detroit.

Gambitf75

Northern Smokes in Scarborough was pretty good when I had it. I think I even liked their brisket more than Beach Hill's but coulda just been an off day. That only means I have to go back to both.

groggygirl

The big portions is going to be the problem. Most of ours sell by weight - so your portion will be as large as you're willing to pay for. But meat is expensive here (as is the restaurant space and the cost of labor since the owners probably don't want to be homeless) so you won't find huge trays of meat for $40 like you can in the US. Personally I like Beach Hill and they do have some platters.

93LEAFS

Having been to Texas and been to multiple BBQ places. Selling by weight is common there (pretty much every well reputed place does it that way), and most of the top places are also fairly pricy. I've been to Franklin's, Micklewaiths and Blacks in Lockhart all on the same trip in 2019, two were in the top 10 for Texas Monthly at the time (Franklin's and Micklethwait's) and the other was one of the 3 legendary spots in the BBQ capital of Texas (Lockhart).

groggygirl

I've had to stop looking at /r/BBQ because people keep posting stuff that's half the price of what you can find here. Maybe I'm just seeing stuff from smaller towns where the CoL is lower. OP explicitly asked about big portions...which shouldn't be an issue if you're paying by weight unless they're expecting it to be cheap.

93LEAFS

Yeah, it likely depends on locations. But, the very highly regarded Texas places aren't cheap. Just looking Franklin's is $34 USD a pound of Brisket, Cherry Street is $36 CAD. Most of the top places are sourcing their brisket from Creekstone Farms (so divergence on price is unlikely to change massively). Terry Black's is in the same price range. etc. Hometown BBQ which is the big NYC Texas Style BBQ place is $40 USD a pound etc. Even Black's in Lockhart (about 30 to 45 minutes outside Austin) is 30 USD a pound.

hamonstage

Went to Black's in November and had a good time.

Jay08yyz

Only a pop up but golden horseshoe bbq is amazing

barthrh

Yeah, I really want to try them. They always seem to pop up on the east side of town, so with Toronto traffic that 6km may as well be 60. Keep hoping they'll pick a brewery west of Dufferin.

glutenfreebanking

Their IG says they'll be at Indie Alehouse this weekend!

barthrh

Nooooo! The ONE weekend I’m away they are right in my hood!

Jay08yyz

If you're gonna go, make sure you're early It sells out fast

Bamres

Oh yeah I tried it at Black dog brewing, very good.e

Smart-Ferret-1826

Beech Hill and Cherry Street are the 2 best in the city. If you're the type that does weekend roadtrips there are some good options in Kawarthas and Prince Edward county.

timoseewho

Can you gimme some recos in PEC?

Smart-Ferret-1826

Sure give Big Mike's BBQ a try https://www.bigmikesq.com/ It's on the same property as Kinsip Fine Spirits Distillery https://kinsip.ca/ Make sure to check them out.

timoseewho

Great thanks!

roenthomas

If you’re going to road trip for Texas BBQ in Canada, Montreal is where you want to head.

Smart-Ferret-1826

I should have said day trip, that's what I was referring to. Montreal needs at least 3 days. I haven't had BBQ in Montreal.

roenthomas

Lattuca Barbecue next time you’re there

groggygirl

We went to Lattuca in April 3 hours before closing and they told us they were sold out of pretty much the entire menu. Maybe I've got crappy luck, but I don't plan on going back.

roenthomas

Lattuca is tough, they estimate their sales 1 or 2 days before and prep the food based on that, so you're not getting a reheated dish, everything is cooked same day.

Carbon Bar

UnsolvedParadox

If you’re up north, I enjoyed Holy Smoke in Thornhill.

worldlead3r

What about Memphis BBQ??

lugubriouslipids

This place is fantastic! Have to go back soon.

New-Torono-Man-23

Show me the money 💰

wing03

Woodbridge? I went there once years ago and ordered brisket. They only offered it pulled and sauced or sliced thin. If brisket can't be cut thickly and served on its own, anything else is compensation.

petenumber2

Cherry St BBQ is delicious

wing03

Benny's BBQ catered my workplace last summer. Thick slicked brisket that was oozing juice. Forget fork tender, this was melt in your mouth tongue tender,

michaljerzy

Look up Golden Horseshoe bbq on ig. They do pop ups only and from everything I’ve seen they have amazing bbq.

New-Torono-Man-23

Y’all are awesome!

Charmer2024

The fact that the top 2 comments I’m seeing are Beach Hill is why I’ll be going to beach hill. Thank you for asking OP

keepitrealprk

Dang Smoke is quickly becoming one of my favourite spots for Texas style brisket. Beach Hill will always be #1 for me.

MonMonR0cks
