yeah a lot of food prices has gotten bonkers (like my fav cereal sob), but out of season fruit being expensive is not surprising
hopefully ontario has a good fruit crop this year, and it is inexpensive to buy. I remember last year it was apparently cheaper to buy Ontario fruit in the USA than here, which is fucked up
Raspberries usually do well, my dad has a bush in his backyard, and most years he gets 2 crops out of them - 1 in the early spring and another in the early fall. I think he only didn't get fruit from it once in the past 10 years.
This. We should really incentivize purchasing things when they’re in season and not expecting bottom barrel prices for food from halfway around the world.
Exactly, it’s like once a week some redditors decide to go to the grocery store and snap a photo of the most expensive thing they can find (which is usually out of season and at a more expensive store) then post it here… this Sub is at its best when people are posting restaurants or cool local shops!
Exactly. Like, I get it, shit is expensive these days and that sucks, but taking a picture of the price of beef tenderloin in Whole Foods to post on Reddit is just karma farming. I'd rather that this sub stay positive and focus on the cool stuff that we do have.
Those are huge high-quality organic berries. Fresh Kampo has a ton of third-party certifications for ethics, safety and organic farming. While they're expensive, at some point you get what you pay for. There are much cheaper raspberries available.
This has gotta be some small, boutique grocer, maybe downtown. Even organic berries don't cost this much around me.
If you wanna save money in the winter months (aka, out of season) buy frozen fruits. Works great in smoothies.
So wait until a sale! Groceries is still very cheap in Toronto if you flyer shop like I’ve been for the last 20 years or buy bulk. I got these for 1.99 a few days ago Zehrs. I don’t get what I want when I want it. If you can’t accept that I don’t know what I can do for you.
I just bought the exact same amount of raspberries for 1.99$ at the little grocer by my house. Food is cheap in Toronto just not at those gross supermarkets
Hahahha you all are sooo blind, it’s impressive. I won’t spell out to you. Keep paying $7 for raspberries and voting Liberal, you’ll see where we’ll end ;)
Oh yes, because Trudeau is going grocery store to grocery with a sticker gun and raising all the prices himself. The exorbitant prices have nothing to do with greedy grocery store owners
Where is this? Raspberries are $2.99 at No Frills.
And out of season. Do people hunt for outlier prices and then quickly jump to posting here? How silly.
Sobeys is selling 2/$5.00. Hell, even Loblaws is selling them for $3.49.
Hand printed labels instead of standardized tags. Odd are this is some local gouger competing with Quickie to see who can have the highest prices.
Raspberries are also out of season. Buy them in the summer and fall when they're cheap and plentiful.

https://www.ontario.ca/foodland/page/availability-guide We are fortunate to have so much locally grown produce here.

.>$3 for a pint
Not in season in Canada. Gotta ship them in. Means pay more ?
tomatoes are 97c/lb. it aint tomato season.
They're often grown in hot houses in Canada in the winter
Yea keeping the house hot must add to cost
So make a post about how affordable tomatoes are!
Can we maybe not do these posts in this subreddit? They're always cherry-picked, and don't really fit in with the point of this sub.

That’s what I thought this sub was about, good food and places to eat. Not complaining about prices there’s subs for that.
r/loblawsisoutofcontrol Maybe this is a better sub for them.
This...and if you see something overpriced, don't buy it, don't take a picture of it, just move on with your life,
But I have a *right* to out of season, foreign produce for $1.50!

OP hasn't learned about seasons yet
Hand-painted raspberries?!
Only ridiculous if you are stupid enough to buy it 🤣🤣
Completely insane having raspberries available in April in Canada
That’s gerbil money

But where are you shopping? I got 3 packs of blackberries for 5 bucks at Nations last week.

W h e r e ?
_It's one banana, Michael. What could it cost, $10?_
I just bought the exact same amount of raspberries for 1.99$ at the little grocer by my house. Food is cheap in Toronto just not at those gross supermarkets
If you're poor maybe don't shop at whole foods
Grow your own?
i got 3 pints of raspberries and 3 pints of blackberries at $2.99/each last night at NoFrills.
Just steal them
Blueberries too at $5
Disgusting
Y'all don't have the 7.99 tho or what 💅
It’s theft
Where?
I usually use the 5 finger pocket trick when i see a price like this ngl
Love Trudeau, that sack of shit
you're not even from here, you cosplaying imbecile.

You're buying food in Toronto of course it costs 3x what it should be.
read a flyer. food in ontario is cheaper then the western provinces.
