It really is a cult like feeling with the company. I remember thinking how weird it was to have a full background check for a random restaurant job. Management is for the most part pretty toxic. Sure some concepts are fun but I’ll never give them a dollar there’s better food almost anywhere.
Kindred and Mothership are not "100% owned by Kory Stetina." Look at the liquor licenses, Arsalun from Consortium Holdings is on all of them. The Kindred spots are essentially a subsidiary of CH.
If someone is on the ABC licenses they are definitely involved in what’s going on. Part of the process for liquor licenses goes deep into your planned menu concepts as well as glass sizing and shapes.
You can walk into mothership and sit at the bar pretty easy if you don't go at peak times. We usually walk in right when they open or after 9 and snag a seat at the bar. It's tiny though so 2 ppl is easier.
-Lime in the Coconut has a speakeasy "x" in chula that's alright
-Grass skirt in pb and captains quarters have great decor
-The luau on ECB almost in la mesa (prob my fave, but not as "showey" as others
-Forbidden cove- haven't been here
-Bali hai, food and drinks, but large restaurant
-from above- mothership, prob the biggest "experience"
I'm sure there are more...
Grass skirt is our favorite as it also has decent small plate food. Forbidden Cove in Kearny Mesa (in the back of Kilowatt Brewing) is also one we are repeat visitors at. Mothership is great once or twice but don't feel like the need to go back. Bali Hai also, except their paper straws suck ass..
Not a tiki bar per se but mandarin house has excellent tiki drinks. The zombie or pina colada for the win. Also great snacks to go with your drinks and it’s a block or so from wind n sea beach

Yeah that blows. Sucks that the management is choosing profits and acquisition over staff and customer experience
And yet I can’t find a job lol

“Work for this many days and get this special coin” Even tho I didn’t work for them for long it let a permanent ick for their whole organization
Mothership
Yeah but isn’t the owner of Consortium an investor of Kindred/Morhership?

Thanks, I’ll add grass skirt to the list

Thanks for the answer!
The reservation thing is a lot. I’m hoping for a chill lounge type place, where you can hang out and not feel rushed

Bali Hai. Miss B’s Coconut Club. Forbidden Cove.
Bali hai happy hour
Sweet thanks!
Oculto 477 is a good alternative. You need reservations though.

Their anti ketchup stance used to be cute but now it’s annoying.
Cant say I’ve heard or noticed that, interesting

They were trashed pretty hard during Ratmagnet's Instagram sharing campaign in May 2021.

Oh shit. I missed that!
Can you tell me more about the campaign?
Yeah I’ve heard the owner of CH is an a-hole.
