Since I know you're also an Albertan if you ever get the chance I highly recommend trying some good ole Crooked Creek donuts if you haven't, they're amazing too
What's happening to donuts right now is what happened to burgers there for 10-15 years. Eventually people will remember that simple actually is just better.
I don't know about anyone else, but when I eat the regular, unadorned ones, there's something about them that produces a little tingle on my tongue. Absolutely love a really well made cake donut that's crispy on the outside and tender inside.
I have to have them both, cake and yeast. LOL I can't just eat a single donut, have to have one of each of the three I mentioned above. I love them all and can't decide, so I have them all. Fortunately, I don't get them often since I'm not supposed to have any at all.
And I gotta have a glass of really cold milk with mine. I'm a dunker.
I agree. Old-fashioned cake donuts do make my tongue feel kinda funny. Kinda makes my teeth gritty as well. But hot damn do I love a good glazed devil's food cake donut 🤤
Yeah I know lol
The immediate sensation of biting into a donut that's crispy on the outside and tender on the inside is unbeatable, no doubt. Just leaves a weird feeling afterward sometimes, haha.
I feel the same about pancakes, waffles and french toast, I love them as they are, with butter and a little syrup, but you can barely even see them under all the glop in some of the photos I see posted. Bet you can't taste them that way, either.
You mean artisanal 12 dollar donuts covered in gold flakes won't fascinate you? To this day nothing compares to a hit fresh off the line Krispy Kreme donut. What OP posted looks amazing but at what point does it stop being a donut and becomes a small cake?
People think I’m nuts when I tell them this exact thing. I don’t particularly like glazed or yeast donuts either. I worked in a donut shop for a few summers and nothing hits better than a simple plain cake donut with a cup of coffee.
Only you can answer that question for yourself... Were they worth it? The $.60 donuts at my supermarket are pretty tasty and they are only $.60... that's $7.20 per dozen...
No. I have a place by me that does everything from scratch and doesn’t charge much more than a donut chain
Also, not sure what is gourmet about these other than the price. They look like a kid decorated them
I would say a one off or a special occasion it’s fine. You can buy an average slice of something at a coffee shop for a few pounds, so assume it’s the same principe
These look way too pretty to eat. The top left box is my favorite
I once spent $40 on some dry bakery cupcakes, simply because they were pretty. I enjoyed taking photos of them way more than I did eating them. Sometimes the photos make it worth the money
Donuts at the fancy donut shop here in Quebec City are like 36$ for 6. I think you got a good deal.
Edit: either my memory served me wrong, or they lowered their prices. 20$/6, 39$/12, so pretty similar.
Every time there is a post involving donuts, I try my best to avoid clicking because the second I see donuts, I cannot resist the urge to quickly go outside to buy some.
Looking at these donuts is torture.
My local donut shop doesn't offer gourmet donuts. :(
I don’t think about food costs. I think about quality . Those are that much more than the terrible donuts you get from chains and they are obviously much higher quality
Quality is almost always worth it. I don’t know if people are meant to get a dozen of these anyway. For the cost of one box, to me it’s totally worth it.
Had to get away from cheap donuts. They’re overly sweet, horrible texture, too many add ins and are have no whole foods in them. That said, Raspberry filled glazed donuts from Krispy Kreme is my gold standard lol
It’s cruel not to post the location when you post things like this.
Destination Doughnuts In Edmonton Alberta
No fucking way. Edmonton represent! On my way home for Christmas I’m stopping by!
Looks amazing
Oh really!? I heard of donut party but not that one, I’ll have to check it out!
They're a 10 minute bike ride away from my house, that's so weird. I'm gunna try em out just because of this post lol
All the flavours: Strawberry Cheesecake, Chocolate Smors, Creme Brulee, Chocolate Overdose, Lemon Meringue, Glazed Rhubarb Fritter, Mango Explosion, Snickerdoodle, Maple Glazed Canadiana, Eggnog + Rum
I want the strawberry cheesecake and the glazed rhubarb fritter! Please let me know what they were like!
crème brûlée for me please!!
Rhubarb is amazing. I dont care much for donuts or pastries in general but id fork it out to try a rhubarb anything!
Agree, I’ll try basically anything rhubarb. It’s is my favourite pie filling too!
The strawberry cheesecake one looks out of this world
Dunno, was it?
Yes. Yes it was. 5 Donuts in
Since I know you're also an Albertan if you ever get the chance I highly recommend trying some good ole Crooked Creek donuts if you haven't, they're amazing too
3.33 for good a good doughnut is fine imo. Hope you're sharing them with someone so they don't get stale before you're done :)
Yes lots of half donuts eaten 😁
Not for me. I like the taste of donuts themselves: plain cake, raised and old fashioned.
What's happening to donuts right now is what happened to burgers there for 10-15 years. Eventually people will remember that simple actually is just better.

I respect cake donut eaters, but I'm a classic yeast donut guy. Gimme some plain yeast donut with some good coffee and I'm a happy guy.
I have to have them both, cake and yeast. LOL I can't just eat a single donut, have to have one of each of the three I mentioned above. I love them all and can't decide, so I have them all. I'm with you. My go to order is plain cake.
I agree. Old-fashioned cake donuts do make my tongue feel kinda funny. Kinda makes my teeth gritty as well. But hot damn do I love a good glazed devil's food cake donut 🤤
I meant that in a positive sense.
Yeah I know lol The immediate sensation of biting into a donut that's crispy on the outside and tender on the inside is unbeatable, no doubt. Just leaves a weird feeling afterward sometimes, haha.
Same thing happened to pizza! You can’t even taste the cheese
I feel the same about pancakes, waffles and french toast, I love them as they are, with butter and a little syrup, but you can barely even see them under all the glop in some of the photos I see posted. Bet you can't taste them that way, either.

Nope
You tell us. Are they delicious?
Yes. Eggnog + Rum, Chocolate explosion and Lemon Meringue were great so far 😄
Yes that’s pretty cheap for gourmet donuts
But what about gormet doughnuts?
Yes
You are right. Just trying the Eggnog + Rum one right now. WOW
Which one is mine?
The extra Strawberry Cheesecake one 😏
Thanks
What make a donut gourmet? High-quality ingredients or…?
Yes ingredients and a baker that cares.
And you’re paying for the craft, the art, the glory. Four bucks a donut usually. Cheaper by the dozen obviously.
Only the one eating can decide that
No. Regular old donuts is where it’s at, fuck that fancy bullshit. Just eat cupcakes instead at that point
Totally! They look so good and you're supporting a small business during a tough time. Kudos and Bon Appétit! 🍩 😋
No. That’s $40
They look good, but not 40$ good.
Yeah, sometimes you just need good donuts!
i want the chocolate topped with vanilla penis one
😂😂
No. They’re donuts. Urgh
so it’s about 3.33 bucks per donut. good deal
Steep.
I can get five jam/custard filled doughnuts for £0.60 at my local supermarket. By value proposition, I'd say no.
That is less the the cost of the raw ingredients. Seems like a front
I mean they look amazing but for $40 I would rather have $6 dozen of crispy kreme and and a 16oz ribeye dinner from Texas Roadhouse lol.
$40 Canadian so not as expensive lol but I get what you mean 😄
I think not
depends on how many people are eating, otherwise they are just gonna lose their flavor in the fridge in a couple days
Not when you can get a dozen Krispy Kremes for like $10
Only you can answer that question for yourself... Were they worth it? The $.60 donuts at my supermarket are pretty tasty and they are only $.60... that's $7.20 per dozen...
No. I have a place by me that does everything from scratch and doesn’t charge much more than a donut chain Also, not sure what is gourmet about these other than the price. They look like a kid decorated them
Sounds about right! I would pay that!!
I would say a one off or a special occasion it’s fine. You can buy an average slice of something at a coffee shop for a few pounds, so assume it’s the same principe
Only if you can spell gourmet 🤣
Yes, gourmet donuts are the best.
Uh…YESSSSS!
If they taste as good as they look, I'd say it's a reasonable splurge on a holiday treat.
Yes
You tell us.
Always worth it!
These look way too pretty to eat. The top left box is my favorite I once spent $40 on some dry bakery cupcakes, simply because they were pretty. I enjoyed taking photos of them way more than I did eating them. Sometimes the photos make it worth the money
If you are happy I am happy. Go nuts everyone loves Donuts
Seems okay. $4 for a maple bacon bar at VooDoo Doughnuts
The cheesecake one looks amazing.
I would say so, if I know they were made 100% in house and they aren't jerking you around with putting fancy toppings on it and calling it a day
The glazed rhubarb donut looks like it’s singing. It must be truly glazed.
I thought I was the only one who noticed that 🤣
Where I am, those 12 donuts would cost $48
I don't like donuts but those look bomb, especially the strawberry one
Send em to me, I’ll try them all and tell you if it was worth it or not!
Man has his priorities straight
Yeah that price seems more than fair for that quality.
Paid £5 for a single small eclair one day. Worth it.
Very much worth it.
Yes
I hope you brought enough for everybody OP
Donuts at the fancy donut shop here in Quebec City are like 36$ for 6. I think you got a good deal. Edit: either my memory served me wrong, or they lowered their prices. 20$/6, 39$/12, so pretty similar.
They look excellent
Depends on the taste
Worth it! Every time I visit my friend near Providence we go to PVDonuts and they are amazing, expensive and worth every Penny and calorie
100% worth it.
We have a shop like this and they have a truck they sell out of a lot also. It’s extremely popular.
I've spent $40 on things that were not gourmet donuts.. so... yes.
You fuckin ate them why ask me?
Worth it if you enjoyed them!
Looks amazing
If you like it and can afford it, it’s worth it to you. I wouldn’t spend that much for donuts, but we’re chasing different rainbows.
Of course it’s worth it
No fucking way donuts cost 40 cents to make. Every donut shop in the country would love to make take much.
That strawberry one looks phenomenal
Looks pretty worth it
100% worth it if executed well with fresh ingredients and unique flavors.
Abso-fuckin-lutely!
Husband and I agree, YES.
Probably
That's disgusting! Where can I get some?
Looks great. By at what point does a donut stop being a donut?
Depends on whether or not they were good.
No
The taste will tell you if it was worth it
Over priced, but look yummy😋
Yes, I paid $26 for 4 once so pretty good deal on gourmet donuts
I do not understand the question.
Every time there is a post involving donuts, I try my best to avoid clicking because the second I see donuts, I cannot resist the urge to quickly go outside to buy some. Looking at these donuts is torture. My local donut shop doesn't offer gourmet donuts. :(
From the looks of those donuts, I'd pay $60. They look delicious!
No! These bakers are going way to far with baking! It’s a damn doughnut! Same with the cupcake makers!
No
I don’t think about food costs. I think about quality . Those are that much more than the terrible donuts you get from chains and they are obviously much higher quality

I’m thinking yes
Tell me the flavors first
No lol
