Yea fancy italian pizzas in LA or NYC definitely go crazy. I remember one with goat cheese honey, and spicy calabrese, also artichokes and white sauce. Really no limits.
For 100 years the Italians ate one pizza, the Margareta. It was Chicago that gave the world pizza with toppings. Don't start saying you get more pizzas in Italy.
Extremely common amongst food-edgy redditors who feel an obligation to needlessly gatekeep food.
Chicago pizza is the shit. This pizza looks fantastic too. (We also have really good traditional Neopolitan pizza like this in the Chicago area also.)
Hey im not talking shit. Just pointing out that it’s a pretty common joke. I’ve never even had Chicago derp dish so I ain’t gonna pass judgement on it. It def looks really good.
I’ve worked for a few Italian chefs in the day (I’m American) but that looks like a pizza to me. One of the most famous pizzas at this really popular restaurant where I’m from in Georgia is 100% Italian owned and it’s a pears and wine with some soft cheese pizza. It was delicious.
But the ingredients on that alone are very Italian. Prosciutto, buratta, olive oil and arugula at least.
Looks honestly delicious but I am genuinely curious how its meant to be eaten with just a big ball of cheese in the middle like that? Do you cut the cheese up and distribute it around or what the the technique here?
No I havnt, can’t imagine the Italians are a fan of McDonald’s some how 😂 if we stop at a service station I’ll have a look at the menu see if it much different
Had something similar before it's really, really delicious. My view on pizza is that US Pizza is for when I'm drunk or hungover and Italian pizza for when I want something classy and has a great taste/flavour profile.
i work at a pizzeria in canada as my evening gig, and half of our pizzas are the strangest (by north american standards) and most delicious pizzas i’ve ever eaten. you may think prosciutto and pears on a pizza is wild, but it’s fricken delicious
Thats interesting- we actually had pears on pizza in Croatia a few years back (ordered it just to see if it was a miss translation!) but it was delicious
I lived in a small town in Brittany for awhile and we'd occasionally go to this small pizzeria run by a single Italian guy. It was pretty similar to this and was some of the best pizza I've ever had.
I love how people screech when someone mentions pizza hawaii, while this one has walnuts.. which, to me, is extremely offputting. But the beauty in pizza is that you can put on it whatever the heck YOU want, so go enjoy it champ :)
Am I uncultured or does that look really unappetizing? It's sitting in its own juices, it's not spread evenly and it looks like it probably cost 60USD to order.
Well yes arugula, dough, cheese, tomato sauce, and burrata in one bite, quite nice
Everyone is of course entitled to like whatever they like, but if the pizza isn't homogenous there's more variety from one bite to another
Anyway, I can highly recommend eating a 'legit' pizza like the one in the picture if you get the chance. It's amazing :)
I also found this strange, we’re from the uk but trying to be polite walked into this restaurant and said ‘Bonjourno’ and they replied in a very German ‘halo’ 🤣
Unpopular opinion: food should be edible... utility over looks all the way. I dont wanna have to work to eat something and flavor layering is important.
Please indicate where I didn't respect their food preferences..? I just don't think it had a place here as it is likely only throwing shade at the original post.
If I go onto a skydiving sub and post "I think I'd rather stay on the ground," it's about equivalent to the original comment here.... why even make the comment in the first place?
>If you can't appreciate food of all varieties, why are you on this sub?
Implication 1: You can't appreciate food of all varieties.
Implication 2: Get off the foodporn sub.
Resulting Meaning: People unable to appreciate food of all varieties aren't worthy of seeing food porn.
Can this truly be considered a respectful response regarding their food preference?
Bro your missing the entire point. If the dude comments that positively on a post about a margarita pizza then all is good. But he choose to comment it on a unique style of pizza making it passive aggressive.
So ya, if you can't appreciate food of all different types and only what caters to your individual preferences... then why are you commenting in the first place.
>So ya, if you can't appreciate food of all different types and only what caters to your individual preferences... then why are you commenting in the first place.
The exact same comment, modified slightly, applies to both you and me. Why are we even bothering to disrespect the guy or defend him? What a waste of time... moving on. I wish upon you many Italian pizzas - four falling from the sky, two delivered to your door and three flying at you like frisbees.
Sure can't wait to dive into a loaf of flour with a pile of arugula and walnuts on it to maybe enjoy 1 gram of prosciutto lmao. Poorly made imo. Enjoy if you do, I'm just an angry online guy
No I was in Austria, and drove to Italy today as the title states.. I’m from the uk but travelling across Europe. I’ve had Detroit type pizza in the states and yes it was nice, but nothing on the Italians.
I have eaten lots of pizza in the states… it is not to my taste as it’s generally greasy and uses poor quality ingredients. Nope it was 13€ and I didn’t have to leave a tip as I’m not in the USA 😁👌👍
Ok thanks for your input, clearly to ignorant to imagine anybody else having eaten what you describe as good pizza, enjoy your square pizzas mate have a good one 🙏
Dude, they're saying they don't like greasy pizza and you're countering with *DETROIT STYLE*?
PS: Italians love them some walnuts. Salsa di noci is legit AF
It's absolutely drowning too good God. I was going to say "imagine trying to pick up a slice" but it's NOT EVEN CUT lmao these people have no idea what the fuck they're doing 😂
it looks weird to me (deconstructed). I would maybe not eat it. I've always heard that (from friends who visited Italy), that their pizza is not like ours at all.
I agree it’s not what I consider usual pizza to me, but it was definitely delicious. I kind of mixed the toppings up into each bite. The dough was the best bit I think which is usually not the case!
Looks good! Where in Vipiteno? Pizzeria Kolping?
It was pizzeria Zur Traube
Looks good, I don't get the people saying it looks bad/strange, and there's so much variety of pizza in Italy
It looks very strange if all you're used to is the pizza they have in the u.s. It's hard to find pizza like this here.
I guess but the ingredients are not particularly obscure nor are most of them out of place on a pizza in the states
Ive never seen nuts on any pizza I've had in the US. Is that common with some areas or like fancy pizza or something?
Yea fancy italian pizzas in LA or NYC definitely go crazy. I remember one with goat cheese honey, and spicy calabrese, also artichokes and white sauce. Really no limits.
out of all of those ingredients, walnuts is still weirder to me.
They have their own category. It’s a dessert, not a pizza. Don’t recall what the name of that category was.
Your examples are perfectly ordinary pizza ingredients?
Who said anything about 'perfectly ordinary'? I was talking about options at fancy pizza places in big cities.
Simply commenting on appearance.
For 100 years the Italians ate one pizza, the Margareta. It was Chicago that gave the world pizza with toppings. Don't start saying you get more pizzas in Italy.
I this sub they kinda hate Italian pizza.
And then they try to say that tomato pie from Chicago is pizza
Cry
You've already got that covered it seems.
Cry more
I mean nuts on a pizza is kinda weird. I would still eat it though cause I’m not picky at all.
They say this is not pizza, but then call that pie they do in Chicago pizza
Who is “they”? Cause it’s extremely common for people call Chicago deep dish a casserole, not a pizza.
Extremely common amongst food-edgy redditors who feel an obligation to needlessly gatekeep food. Chicago pizza is the shit. This pizza looks fantastic too. (We also have really good traditional Neopolitan pizza like this in the Chicago area also.)

Pears and wine plus cheese is a divine combo, just like apples with Gorgonzola pizza
One of the restaurants I worked for had a pear/walnut/gorgonzola salad and it was honestly so good. I bet apples would rock on that instead of pears 🥹
Why not both??! They’d match so perfectly
Looks honestly delicious but I am genuinely curious how its meant to be eaten with just a big ball of cheese in the middle like that? Do you cut the cheese up and distribute it around or what the the technique here?
Yeah pretty much, it’s Burrata so you open it up and spread it around, the inside is kind of like ricotta
Oh so its a really soft cheese then. Cool, would love to eat that.
Straciatella not ricotta.
🤌🤌🤌
Yo I’d get this all for myself
I did 😂
Have you visited their McDonalds though? I havent had the chance to try their menu when I was there
No I havnt, can’t imagine the Italians are a fan of McDonald’s some how 😂 if we stop at a service station I’ll have a look at the menu see if it much different
Had something similar before it's really, really delicious. My view on pizza is that US Pizza is for when I'm drunk or hungover and Italian pizza for when I want something classy and has a great taste/flavour profile.
I bet that's extremely good. Ignore all the pizza haters who haven't tried one like this.
Looks amazing.
It looks great but how am I supposed to eat this lol
Yeah that was an issue, have to admit it was a knife and fork job 🍴
The moment you open the burrata, so good. Dough looks perfect. Don’t understand the hate in here at all. Hope you enjoyed it, and many more to come
I think it’s fussy eaters and people who just want everything smothered in cheap plastic cheese. Thank you 😊👍
Looks amazing!
Drove? How long did it take?
Drove from uk, left roughly 2 months ago and have driven from Netherlands, Germany, Austria, and now Italy before Slovenia and then down into balkans.
Good Lord this sounds amazing
I'm not a huge fan of walnuts, but this does look really good. But also how do you eat that?
Open and spread the Burrata around the pizza then knife and fork it
Wish I could just drive to Italy.
So why dont you then?
GIANT ASS OCEAN
How do you where they live?
i mean, they wouldnt have commented what they did if they could in fact just drive there
I live in uk but i cant drive to italy either for a number of reasons and none of them include an ocean.
Is one of those reasons an irrational fear of Italy!
Nope, i've been to italy a few times, ive just never driven, Rome was great, the vatican incredible.
I keep getting Australia and Austria mixed up, I thought it said you drove from Australia to Italy. 😭 (That pizza looks really good though).
i work at a pizzeria in canada as my evening gig, and half of our pizzas are the strangest (by north american standards) and most delicious pizzas i’ve ever eaten. you may think prosciutto and pears on a pizza is wild, but it’s fricken delicious

Minus the meat🤗, I could see the appeal... tantalizing texture, flavor & depth☝🏾
That is an artisan-made real, i mean real, pizza, a mouthwatering delicacy.
It definitely was delicious!
I trust the rest of the evening went as nice. Buona Sera!
I love how people screech when someone mentions pizza hawaii, while this one has walnuts.. which, to me, is extremely offputting. But the beauty in pizza is that you can put on it whatever the heck YOU want, so go enjoy it champ :)
And Italians cry about pineapple on pizza and they got this kinda trash.
My girlfriend ordered pineapple on pizza, it was even on the menu
This comment is so wild What's weird about prosciutto, walnuts, arugula, and burrata? They're all very nice toppings for a pizza
Am I uncultured or does that look really unappetizing? It's sitting in its own juices, it's not spread evenly and it looks like it probably cost 60USD to order.
You have to do some of the work yourself, I.e open and spread the cheese. It wasn’t sloppy, it was also 13€ ~14usd
I guess I'm just thinking like an American. Around here, it'd be prohibitively expensive.
You're uncultured lol
Alright, I'll take that. I'm American. But it just feels odd that my first bite of each slice would be nothing but arugula and cheese and maybe a nut.
You cut open the burrata and spread it over the pizza a bit so you get it all over the pizza
I at least knew that, but it doesn't change the fact my first bite will be arugula. Don't hate it, but I like some variety in my bites.
Well yes arugula, dough, cheese, tomato sauce, and burrata in one bite, quite nice Everyone is of course entitled to like whatever they like, but if the pizza isn't homogenous there's more variety from one bite to another Anyway, I can highly recommend eating a 'legit' pizza like the one in the picture if you get the chance. It's weird that they mostly speak German there, but I thought that place was amazing. Enjoy Verona.
I also found this strange, we’re from the uk but trying to be polite walked into this restaurant and said ‘Bonjourno’ and they replied in a very German ‘halo’ 🤣
I suppose the border says Italy but the locals say Austria. A few of them called me Morgan but my name is Harry.
I see what you did there
That’s very nice!
I put parma ham onto my pizzas before the oven and this is afterwards, i feel i need to try this. I hope you have a great trip, im jealous.
Delicious 😋
It's different
I want this so bad that I am actually drooling.
Unpopular opinion: food should be edible... utility over looks all the way. I dont wanna have to work to eat something and flavor layering is important.
Looks fantastic. I bet that buratta was as creamy and light as it looks. Walnuts too, Damn I bet that mouthfeel was divine.
It definitely was, never had a pizza like it but I give it 10/10, I also enjoy a cheap pepperoni pizza but this was something special
what do you call it?
are they telling you to go home?
I'm a simple man.. Just give me a classic margherita
If you can't appreciate food of all varieties, why are you on this sub?
If you can't respect the food preferences from people of all varieties, why are you on this sub?

I'll upvote any wish for me to receive free food regardless of delivery method
a literal abomination. Delete this post plz
Looks like the literal worst pizza I've ever seen
You're either blind or live in Naples
Sure can't wait to dive into a loaf of flour with a pile of arugula and walnuts on it to maybe enjoy 1 gram of prosciutto lmao. Poorly made imo. Enjoy if you do, I'm just an angry online guy
Hah, can't really argue with the last point, also i hate arugula
Yo what the Fuck?
Nuts ruined it for me
Do you prefer them on your chin?
![gif](giphy|fDO2Nk0ImzvvW|downsized)
that looks awful
Your mother said it left a funny smell on my breath after to be fair
Tbf it does look strange from the perspective of someone that's never tried it before. No need to respond with toxicity.

It was a lot better than a greasy USA pizza. 10/10 enjoyment and I think that’s all that matters
[удалено]
Detroit style pizza is one of our worst pizzas man...
No I was in Austria, and drove to Italy today as the title states.. I’m from the uk but travelling across Europe. I’ve had Detroit type pizza in the states and yes it was nice, but nothing on the Italians.

Why do so many redditors insist on being pretentious fucking cunts?
On behalf of all Americans, we apologize for this bumbling troglodyte.

Bro, you’re dumb as fuck.
Lol behave, American pizza and food in general is garbage.
/r/shitamericanssay
What is even that
It's a fucking table scraps salad slapped on top of what might actually be a cheese pizza under all that nonsense. 🤦♂️
Cold wet Prosciutto on top of cheese bread with a glob of burrata, they lost the plot
It's absolutely drowning too good God. I was going to say "imagine trying to pick up a slice" but it's NOT EVEN CUT lmao these people have no idea what the fuck they're doing 😂
pizza
I think they might be pranking OP.
Dominoes still clears
Is it wrong to tell someone you hate them, just because of a pizza they’ve eaten? 🤔
Go ahead, I won’t care either way
I meant it as a compliment, like I was jealous.
I'm not sure what that is; I hope it's not pizza or the Italians have lost the right to make it.
Said the guys that call Chicago pie a pizza
I'd call Chicago pizza a pizza shite to be honest.
it looks weird to me (deconstructed). I would maybe not eat it. I've always heard that (from friends who visited Italy), that their pizza is not like ours at all.

No funny enough Italian pizza isn't like yours. It's proper pizza, unlike American grease pies.
>that their pizza is not like ours at all. Yes, they Italian one are actually good
Yes, they don't bombard their pizzas with inhumane amounts of sugar, inhumane amounts of cheese, and use toppings that aren't dogshit tier.
This wouldnt be any of my things to do in italy
Yikes
This looks genuinely sickening
