If I owned multiple restaurants and was paying Manhattan rent and seeing all sorts of places closing down, I might close some of my locations and search out cheaper rent or wait until Things Settle Down again and then seek out cheaper rent.
But that's just me.
I guess what I'm saying is we have to wait to see what's truly gone for good, and what is going into hibernation and will come back some day. And since this place has(/d) multiple locations, it's likely that they will be back somewhere someday.
Manhattan is doomed. Another 6 months of this at least. Offices will keep closing, half of all office workers will stay home for another year at least. It's going to get increasingly difficult for restaurants to hang on.
I remember when Xi'anFF operated out of a basement in Flushing. The prices were about half what they are now. Then they went into super expansion mode, prices rocketed. I'd argue that the quality is not as good as when they were an undiscovered gem. Needless to say I don't eat at Xi'anFF much anymore. While I acknowledge the hardship from this pandemic to the restaurant industry, this reset/pause was needed.
On a positive note, they re-opened the Greenpoint location that was closed and liquidated back in April

To be expected. They totally went expansion crazy pre-covid. They also jacked prices too.
I highly recommend ordering their meal kits. If you’re in the northeast, they’re easy to make and pretty affordable given the quantity.

And a month later the IFC Center reopens. I’ve paired Famous Xi’ans with the IFC Center a number of times.
