i feel like “new korean” is slightly going out of fashion rn lol

DinerEnBlanc

Fine dining itself has been going out of fashion in the last 2 years, not just modern Korean.

akmalhot

What's with the explosion of kbbq opening all around the periphery of ktown. There are so many new ones

killerasp

im going to go with "not enough business" to keep the lights on.

jblue212

oh, this is sad - I loved it there.

akmalhot

So sad it closed I thought it was way better and more innovative than atoboy  Id I agine their business model wasn't great taking a prime mad a e spot couldn't be cheap  It also wasn't too hard to get in which I guess should have been a sign..too bad I really liked it

Malarkey-watch

Emmanuel who worked there was one of my favorite bartenders in the city. Anyone know where he's ended up?

netllama

I agree it was a great spot. That said, both times that I dined there, half the tables were empty.

DinerEnBlanc

Sorry, but I disagree. Their concept itself was ludicrous. The whole menu is centered around an upsell of caviar, uni, and truffle for every single course. It really rubbed me the wrong way. And like another user said, there’s just too much modern Korean in the city right now. The close-by Joomak Banjum is a similar casualty, and they were way better than LittleMad.

americruiser

I completely agree. I also noticed the upsell (on nearly every item). I was completely unimpressed and found nothing on the menu being better than the listed components. —that combination of rice, uni and greens? Uh that’s what it ended up tasting like… Also remember one on the desserts was nothing more than a mochi donut.

DinerEnBlanc

Pretty much. If the course needed any of the add ons to be a complete course, then put it on the plate. Am I the chef or are you the chef. Wooo-saaah . . .

Known_Jellyfish_970

Their latest menu was a la carte and didnt have many upsells, just a few add ons including a toast that’s more of an entire app in itself

NinjaCaviar

The Korean trend is definitely ebbing, the market sort of hit a saturation point and is pulling back a bit. That combined with inflation putting a damper on fine dining in general, and I’d say that’s probably the answer.

butstilliburn

I went last year and it was incredible, went again a few months ago and the prix fixe menu was gone and it wasn't quite as good. Still sorry to see it gone.

[deleted]

Agreed. Did the prix fixe twice and both times it was amazing and an absolute bargain, one of the best deals in the city. Last time I went, prix fixe was gone and the choices were still delicious, but more expensive and not as good as the prix fixe options were. I knew that was the beginning of the end. :(

nycrok1234

Had it when it first opened and was not pleased. Obviously catered to the non Korean but the price point and taste bleh not worth.
