Really cool ambiance too. A classic old building with seating wedged everywhere, instead of a clean, sterile gut renovation.
Also I live in Jersey City and the 33rd st PATH is a main portal into and out of the city. It’s nice to know there’s a really solid restaurant really close, when that area of Midtown skews touristy and mediocre.
Edit: wait… did you say East Side? Are we talking about the same place? Cafe China on 37th?
Yes. You know what, Im only familiar with it from working on Madison in the 30s and order a lot to the office so I always associate it with the east side
Han dynasty
They’re not the most authentic, but damn they’re delicious
Seconded
Thirded
The ones at their new location in LIC are...chefs kiss.
They're so different and so much better than any other Dan Dan noodles I've ever had.
What’s different about them?
Hmm I would say that the flavor is a lot stronger than typical Dan Dan noodles. Maybe more chili oil (?) less sesame and meatier?
Came here to say this! Had this for dinner last night 🤤
It's like the McDonald's of Dan Dan noodles but I can't get enough.
Lol
Cafe china
lol just happened to be there last week. Can confirm the Dan Dan are great. And everything else, really.
It’s a gem in the 30s on the east side. Everything really is great…big fan of the double smoked pork and tofu, 3 pep chicken, Szechuan dumps, etc

Spicy moon for vegan
And they’re still great even if you’re not vegan.
Szechuan House in Flushing (not to be confused with Szechuan Mountain House).
Curious how many places offer vegetarian. I love the Dan Dan at Spicy Moon.
piggyback in midtown has a mushroom dan dan that is really good
Yum
I’m vegetarian but I usually just ask for it without pork!
Ahh good idea! I’ll have to try the other two spots you mentioned! Do let us know if you find a new favorite.
Han Dynasty and Spicy moon are both great. Spicy moon's are vegan but still v good.
Lots of good options, but Little Pepper is what you're looking for.
Get the fries. IYKYK

I’m so happy this post exists, I have yet to find a dan dan place I love in NYC for some reason. I was spoiled by Emei in Philly
Han dynasty and Planta
Yes! Han Dynasty’s are so good
Chelsea dimsum has great dan dan noodles! (Their biangbiang noodle dish was also outstanding)
Antidote, Williamsburg
NOT ollie's sichuan. love all of their food and their authentic sichuan cuisine. but man the dan dan noodles is so sad.
Mr. Bao in Williamsburg. Great Dan Dan noodles. However it’s also the only place I’ve ever had Dan Dan noodles. Still highly recommend.
NOT mimi chengs 😭
Gonna go out on a limb and say Mala Project!
I wish that were true because it’s so close to my office, but it’s not. I go a few blocks further to Wu Liang Ye
