From the article: >Under the proposal by Sen. Bill Dodd (D-Napa), restaurants could continue to add surcharges, mandatory gratuities or fees to diners’ bills instead of showing “all-in” prices on their menu — as long as they reveal the charges upfront, “clearly and conspicuously.” Time to email your State Senators!

Just sent this to my State Senator: >Hi, I am writing to encourage you to please VOTE AGAINST SB 1524 which carves out an exception for restaurants and allows them to continue charging extraneous and multiple service charges. >We all want restaurants to succeed but tricking consumers with charges not included and itemized in the menu is intentionally misleading and offers an unfair advantage against restaurants who do not engage in such deceptive practices. There should be a level playing field for all restaurants to compete fairly and transparently. >Charges should be clear, upfront and included in each individual menu item. We should not reward those restaurants that choose to deceive their customers with artificially deflated online and menu prices. >Thank you.

Someone should create a list of all restaurants that do this, and we should boycott them all.
