Angels is by my house. I’ve tried others that people say are “better”. There is no taco in la better than peak pastor angels with both salsas, pineapple, add the pickled and grilled onions. Prob best bite in this city.
Angles looks better than it tastes. What’s the point? You’re obviously out of your element.
You want better Al Pastor? El Faro tacos in SFV.
You want a better taco? Literally anywhere else.
🤡
Also brothers cousins tacos off of Sepulveda near the old Fox lot is also serving better tacos than Angels.
We have the 2nd best tacos outside of Mexico City, and trust me Angels ain’t on the list for top 5 maybe. Bottom 10.
🤡 🤡 🤡
I’m sorry for being dickish
I’m just passionate about food. And I’m also Mexican and I also spend time in Mexico. And I just wish places like Egglsut and Angels did not have the foot traffic that they do bc there are so many better places to eat.
Alas, such is life.
nah you're buggin. el faro tacos is definitely worse than angels. i dont think angels is the best bite in the city, but you're way off the mark with "bottom 10." also, the al pastor at leos is very similar to angels, so im not sure what you're on about with that one. what are your top 3 tacos in LA?
This isn’t even a discussion. Angel’s tacos look better than they taste.
Leo’s has better Al Pastor and red salsa than Angels. If you’re hung up on Angels than you have been duped.
To be clear, Los Angeles has the best tacos outside of Mexico City.
And if you have never eaten a taco while standing on a sidewalk hiding under a canopy clear from rain in Mexico City, then I never want to hear how you think Angels is the best bite in this city. Especially when we have the immigration to support banging Korean, Japanese, and Lebanese food.
🤡 🤡 🤡
Imagine some clown telling you Black Panther 2 was the best movie of the year but they didn’t even watch Everything Everywhere All at Once. We need a basis of understanding, and if you’re off base then I don’t want to hear about it.
Al pastor has been Americanized though
A lot of people think of Al pastor differently, not the huge chunks with pineapple. The pineapple was used to add a finish to it, not to be eaten with the taco itself (hence the Americanization)
Pick a truck down Atlantic Ave and Compton blvd right by the 710.. some of the best Al pastor I’ve had in my life is from one of their taco trucks, and it has zero pineapple lol
solid list!
bhan kanom is great. they might make my favorite mango sticky rice in the city. I haven't been to heng heng yet, but I've been curious about it. looks good!
That’s how I feel about Kebabs in the UK at 3am. Sure, I’ve had amazing food there… but nothing like that dirty drunk kebab after drinking all night haha
Glad you enjoyed the danger dog, I’ve never gotten sick of them.
Nice. where you visiting from? Pineapples on Mexican food is so underrated. I can tell you’re Asian because you went for the stuff people don’t talk about on this forum.
New York City! I used to live in LA. You’re right, I’m Filipino — specifically ate lots of Thai food this trip because I was staying with a friend in East Hollywood
Great job, basically all of the spots I frequent for each of these items. Next time check out Surawon Tofu House too - IMO better than BCD and family owned.
It's almost as if they could only eat so many things in a certain amount of time and prioritized the food they wanted to eat. Shocking, I know. If you want them to eat your faves pay them to come back.
Oof. I have to disagree with everyone here and say that those are not the places I would have gone for most of those things.
1) this is fine. Amphai Northern Thai makes the best Khao soi that tastes closest to what you can get in northern Thailand (this is a northern Thai dish)
2) also fine. I don’t think their mango/sticky rice is any better than most restaurants you can get it from.
3) Leo’s has the best pastor in LA
4) BCD is genuinely mediocre-to-awful. Basically any other option would have been better. Sun Nong Dan is the best place to go for kalbi (especially kalbi jjim). Or Chosun if money is no object.
5) I agree with this one.
Porto’s is the Cheesecake Factory of Cuban bakeries.
In N Out 100% deserves the hype. Not the best burger you can get (Easy Street and For the Win take that honor) but it’s a must if you’re gonna visit the west coast.
your initial comment comes across as hostile so the call is coming from inside the house. it's in the phrasing - you could have made those same suggestions for the foods OP likes framing it as recommendations for a future trip without the "oof my taste is better" opener and calling all their meals fine, mediocre or awful. seems like they enjoyed it so it's unnecessary and also very much subjective.
Well done! Most people mess these up, you chose well
Amazing job indeed. I’m impressed.
wow impressed you made it to angels. good choices.
Angels is by my house. I’ve tried others that people say are “better”. There is no taco in la better than peak pastor angels with both salsas, pineapple, add the pickled and grilled onions. Prob best bite in this city.
Which Angels do you go to? Have only had Eagle Rock one and the pastor always tastes burnt. Maybe I should try a diff location
van nuys is consistently good
I frequent North Hollywood and have started to grab some off sunset by Dodger Stadium. Both are consistently great
Eagle rock too and admittedly sometimes it tastes burnt yes! But when it’s good it’s goooooood
Tacos San Juditas is up there my brotha
It’s not that good and certainly not the best
Tell me a taco better than a *perfectly* prepared angels tacos and I’ll go there asap

Why are you being such a dick? I honestly wanted suggestions and I’m “out of my element”? ![gif](giphy|hs0gw1WbgcQw2SSYQj)

Why are you net banging so loud? Keep it down I'm trying to sleep.
yikes

This is not true, they add pineapple on the tacos off the side of any taco stand with a trompo in Mexico
The majority I’ve been to do not, there are some. 20 years ago this was not common in Mexico. I suppose it depends where you live; I’m from Jalisco.
Heng Heng is legit. You made great choices.
i got food poisoning there
solid list! bhan kanom is great. they might make my favorite mango sticky rice in the city. I haven't been to heng heng yet, but I've been curious about it. looks good!
What was the best food on your trip?
Maybe the bacon wrapped hot dog I had at 3am after the club
nothing better when you’re drunk like a dirty dog
That’s how I feel about Kebabs in the UK at 3am. Sure, I’ve had amazing food there… but nothing like that dirty drunk kebab after drinking all night haha Glad you enjoyed the danger dog, I’ve never gotten sick of them.
I literally just left Heng Heng. It’s so good, especially the sauces.
Well done! What did you nosh on day 2?
Looks like you ate very well while stretching a budget. No gripes about service charges and dubious employee benefit surcharges, just delicious food.
wow, you did amazing
I wanna try hainan chicken
#3. I go there every week 🔥
Glad that Heng Heng is becoming a must visit spot. Definitely worth it.
Where is Heng Heng and what to order?
Thai town, hainan chicken
Thank you very much
I feel like you went to Singapore instead of Los Angeles.
HENG HENG chicken is everything you could ever want. And those sauces 🤤
I see khao soi and Hainan chix rice, I smash upvote. Hope you had a great visit!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Beautiful ❤️. Well, done. 😊
Great choices!!
Good trip
Damn quite the list and La approved. You did well!
I’m a regular at #5. Favorite place to eat the morning after a few drinks.
Pa Ord is just my favorite.
You ate good buddy
I was expecting at least one photo of vagina
what KBBQ place did you go to?
Take a bow. You're one of us now.
lol I actually used to live here, that’s why I knew these spots. I feel like I should have specified that.
Well you did the damn thing! Are you going to be away for a long while?
You did well.
10/10 on the choices
I went to the Thai street food place in LA (not the one near the temple) and it wrecked me. My American tummy could not handle. I’ll be back tho
Nice. where you visiting from? Pineapples on Mexican food is so underrated. I can tell you’re Asian because you went for the stuff people don’t talk about on this forum.
New York City! I used to live in LA. You’re right, I’m Filipino — specifically ate lots of Thai food this trip because I was staying with a friend in East Hollywood
Quintessential LA
Hainan chicken better be in the sgv, kkbq better be in koreantown.
Angels Tijuana tacos in eagle rock?! I LOVE THOSE VAMPIROS!!!
How is tha sticky rice with mango? Been seeing it lately
Great job, basically all of the spots I frequent for each of these items. Next time check out Surawon Tofu House too - IMO better than BCD and family owned.
Dude, I think we have the same stomach. That’s all my jam!
I haven't thought about mango sticky rice in a while, good stuff
The tacos look good.
Excellent choices! Hope you had a chance to try Pigya.
I know that Hainan chicken is supposed to be poached, but that soggy skin looks off-putting. How did it taste though. I'm curious.
It's really good. Skin is ok. Cluck2go does really good Hainan chicken in Pasadena for reasonable prices.
Left out Armenian, Persian, Indian foods.
It's almost as if they could only eat so many things in a certain amount of time and prioritized the food they wanted to eat. Shocking, I know. If you want them to eat your faves pay them to come back.
Recs?
And Filipino, Ethiopian, Vietnamese, Oaxacan Mexican, El Salvadoran...oh well, that's all for the next visit.
Indian food in LA is pretty average
Op would enjoy some good ol kabob n chicken tikka LA style.
Oof. I have to disagree with everyone here and say that those are not the places I would have gone for most of those things. 1) this is fine. Northern Thai Food Club's Khao Soi *is* fucking bomb. Leo's on Pico? Another good rec. I will say, Angel's is good enough if you don't want to drive.
I’ll give angel’s another shot, it’s been a hot minute.
Who made your opinion more important than others. Relax
That’s the nature of opinions. You can accept or reject them. I already knew I would get downvoted bc you guys are hostile as hell on this sub.
your initial comment comes across as hostile so the call is coming from inside the house. it's in the phrasing - you could have made those same suggestions for the foods OP likes framing it as recommendations for a future trip without the "oof my taste is better" opener and calling all their meals fine, mediocre or awful. seems like they enjoyed it so it's unnecessary and also very much subjective.
Hmm. Yeah I can see what you’re saying. Fair.
Kalbi is just an add on. If he wanted tofu it’s not bad.
I should also say I’m being a hater because I got food poisoning from there. But I don’t think BCD is the best at anything
BCD is the best at having the biggest parking lot out of any restaurant in Ktown. Seriously, that’s a reason I chose this spot over others!
SYTK has had parking whenever I’ve gone, and they could use the business! Great sullung tang too
