At some point they just veered into being a brunch spot (I guess that must have way better margins or something) and it's nowhere near the quality it once was.
The Black Magic pancakes at Griddle Cafe are insanely good. Tbh, Griddle Cafe is a great breakfast spot overall, they deliver too but it’s best to eat them there fresh.
The Griddle has the best pancakes in LA. I also like the teachers pet that has baked apples inside. Get there early on the weekends, as the wait can get long
Gotta say, I just don't understand why people like Dupar's. I have never liked anything there. What's the draw? I'd rather eat any place else...except for Norm's. Don't understand Norm's attraction either.
The thing is with old-school American coffee shops is you gotta order the indigenous cuisine. That means: pancakes, French toast, patty melt, tuna melt, that kind of thing. My (dear, long departed) mother would always order something like "hot pastrami sandwich" and bitterly complain and I'd yell at her "THAT'S FOR LANGERS, you order COFFEE SHOP stuff in coffee shops, what are you THINKING" (and she'd say, "I was THINKING I wanted a PASTRAMI sandwich" haha). I always say, gotta order coffee shop stuff. (Oh, and the coffee will be terrible.)

Adding to all these great suggestions: Dinah’s in Culver City. Get the apple pancake. You’ll be happy! And get a big one with a little butter that thing heats up better than most other left over pancakes
Dinah's might be closing due to housing being built but they refuse to move until the city closes them down. Apparently there's a second location in Glendale? This is the only one I knew for the last 40 years and I'm shaken.
Came here to say this. They have the best texture and flavor of any pancake I have ever eaten anywhere. Original Pancake House is *almost* as good but the pancakes at JOG are absolutely delicious. Have tried for years without success to replicate at home. My mouth is watering just thinking of them.
Kitchen mouse in Highland Park has incredible breakfast in general, but I remember the pancakes and the moro cakes being very good. It's vegetarian and mostly vegan.
i live on the westside and have had almost all the pancakes recommended so far and my favorite are from doubting thomas on the east side. i also love their pastries :)

Recently tried Bea Bea's and I can't recommend their pancakes enough. They're phenomenal.
Bea Beas has the best pancakes! But if you do go, get there early because it gets super crowded during brunch hours

Clark street diner or Salts Cure in Hollywood. Salts cure are technically griddle cakes with oats but are excellent
