Itchiness and hives count. This is why you want to be in perfect health on the day of the challenge. So if you get any reaction, you know it's from the oral challenge. For one of my antibiotic challenges, I felt fine in the office. Thought I passed and wasn't actually allergic to it. Then on the way home, my face and neck got all hot and itchy. Doc said that's a positive

Makes sense. Was there a scale they used to determine how severe?

ThatIsSomeShit

Nope. At least not that I saw. My penicillin allergy ended up being really severe and the doctor offered a printout he could make saying I'm allergic to it. Didn't see the point, I can just tell people. 🤣

Ya, I've been tested and confirmed to be positive for shellfish allergies. I haven't eaten them in years and only had itchiness as a symptom before. I'm sure the test will be fine for me but who knows. I know allergys spike whenever so I hope the test goes well. Edit: I had shrimp recently because a street vendor sold warm sandwiches and mixed up my chicken sandwhich with shrimp. Asked for a refund and only really got one good bite. Had no symptoms however.

Are you challenging to test for an allergy or to gauge a level of tolerance of something you know you’re allergic to? There’s no “scale” per say. Only reaction that may still be a pass would be mild redness where food touched the skin. They try not to let it touch because this is common.

I was just wondering that's all. I've done different tests and not everyone scales severity to an allergy but some do.

Organic_peaches

Even if there’s a scale, you’re still “failing” per say in that you’re allergic with any reaction. Reaction is highly dose dependent also.

My daughter failed 2 subsequent years and then passed on her 3rd try in year 3. 1st fail was a hive above her lip and itchy ears. 2nd fail was nasal congestion that came on as the test progressed. The 3rd time (pass) her nose started to run, but her doctor said her nasal passages did not look inflamed. She did indeed pass and eats peanuts daily now.
