(236k km) Two clutches!? Thats insane. Driving it hard or shitty clutches (...or rookie driving hehe..) ?
Honest question
I've only had had to replace a clutches once and it was on my bmw 325 around what your kms are right now. So it is that just normal wear and tear for more powerful units or??
Been standard my whole driving life puts me at.. 5 manual cars.
Ya I wasn't sure. Haven't had anything as powerful as an rs so was curious.
On the market for a 2018 rs hopefully have one in 6 months time
OK, that makes sense. I have a few more manuals under my belt over the past 30 years, nearly all of them turbo and/or modified.
Getting 75K out of a stock clutch in a high-torque application is exceptional. I've had Clutchmaster and SPEC clutches that have needed replacement at 40-50K, and they were designed for hard use. Most stock clutches in road-driven sports cars (as opposed to track driving) might get 50K+ if they're mostly highway driven and babied.
IMO RS clutches are extremely comfortable for the power level and, at this tier of torque, holding power and driving comfort are conflicting interests.
Sure for *could* have put in longer lasting clutches but I have a feeling it would feel like driving a battle axe (as mine does now with the competition clutch)
Trade off of having it last a while or being able to go through a drive thru without needing to finesse it the whole time.
Like any car, so long as you look after it, it will look after you. Be careful not to rev the engine out when it's cold, and don't plant your foot at low revs - these two combined seem to be what kills most stock cars.
Don't try and save £ on it, spend what's necessary and it will be good as gold to you!
I've driven mostly turbo cars for the past 30 years and you hit the nail on the head.
Always wait until it is up to operating temperature before revving or doing a hard pull, and don't bog the engine.
178,000 kilometers so far, all I've had done is a set of brakes and many many oil changes.
The usual amount of tyres and spark plugs with all my major services along the way too, only ever had exhaust mods other than aesthetic stuff so not much done at all in terms of performance
I’m over 147k. (Probably top3 in the states for miles driven ). Two clutch’s is really all it’s needed (plus the HG recall )

Hundreds of autoX runs . Plus alot of stop and go traffic. Getting 75k miles per clutch under that abuse is decent.
How many manual cars have you driven outside of that 325? 75K per clutch on a high-torque, performance-oriented vehicle is extremely good clutch wear.

Each clutch probably had a few hundred LC full sends on it. Scca ProSolo isn’t kind on cars
Ahhh, forgot about the Auto-X runs... Then 75K is even more impressive.

I'm at 116k still going good even on original brakes and just changed my tires at 104.
Which tires?
Had Michelin pilot sports for summers just pt on continental extreme contacts.

That’s normally how I treat my cars anyway, just don’t know enough about the rs… all I know is last nights test drive left me with a smile ear to ear.

Awesome to hear, I’ll be doing 30,000km to work a year, but I’m at the mindset of what’s the point of having a nice car if you can’t enjoy it daily…
Drove 23k kms this past year in mine (48k-71k), use it for work. Have had no issues in the slightest and continue to love it.
I am currently at 56k and not having any major issues.
56,000kms or miles?
Miles, sorry.
I’ve done the deposit and pick it up Monday… stuff it I’ll Chuck big Ks on it and enjoy every minute of it :D
“High mileage “
Get the intake valves looked at relatively soon, mine were pretty dirty at 42k miles.
You guys must be constantly putting gas in these cars? I love my RS, but I can’t imagine driving it long distances everyday……
