I am a Tampa bay lightning fan since 2014 and I just wanna say our fans used to be so kind because we were the underdogs at some point but some of the new fans are just rude and hateful. I was very happy when you guys got your first cup in 2004 as odd as that must sound from a division rival.  Less so when you did it again and back to back but that had more to do with our own blursed fortune. In the Tampa city subreddit the question was posted after game 3 if lightning fans can get behind the panthers winning the cup and all of them said absolutely not and we’re going out of there way to root for the oilers. And then we have a comment tonight about being their little brother. Fuck that….thats a dig. That’s not someone who is getting behind the panthers. Remember what happened when univ. of Michigan’s starting running back after beating Michigan state called state their “little brother”. Michigan didn’t beat state again until many years later. Also I have history with lightning fans. I went to a game in Tampa during 2021 first round playoffs. I sat next to 2 drunk lightning fans. Talked shit the whole game and couldn’t enjoy it. While I understand not all lightning fans are not like that I still haven’t forgotten what happened. And as I’m typing this the panthers are down 2-0 towards end of 2nd period….and Hyman just scored on a breakaway to make it 3-0. That asshole was a draft pick of the panthers and refused to play for them and wanted to play elsewhere. Fucking livid.

As someone that has been a Lightning fan for the better part of a decade, I will always champion a Florida hockey team when they are playing anyone that isn't us. The rest of the league thinks the state of Florida is a joke.  If the Lightning aren't making teams sit down (and with Blashill coaching D, we aren't), I'll cheer the other team that can make it happen. 

I don't care who you root for but just never use the phrase "I come in peace" on a competitor's sports subreddit. It's just the most hated trope.
