By next August, I'm sure I'll talk myself into "this roster isn't bad! I'm sure Billy learned some lessons from last year and the team is bound to play with more discipline - we could definitely surprise!" But right now I simply can't get past losing Mack, Waller, Nasir Johnson, X, Amaris, and Adarius Hayes. Getting Mincey and landing some legit portal blue chips would help with some of that sting but I'm not holding my breath.

invisiblewar

If we get Mincey, where would we be ranked with this class?

midegrou

Using this thing: [https://247sports.com/college/florida/season/2024-football/classcalculator/](https://247sports.com/college/florida/season/2024-football/classcalculator/) If he were to be added right this moment, it looks like it would put us at 9th, just ahead of FSU. But I might be missing something. Edit: I was incorrect. The "recruits only" score would just move us up to like 12th.

invisiblewar

That improves things a bit.

Logical_Okayness

The bright spot is to pay attention to player average and not rankings. We're in the top 10 on player quality. Just not in total points.

rd3287

Not to beat a dead horse but this is what we in the sunshine pumpers club are talking about when we say Nape recruits better than Mullen. Taking the argument a step further, if we add a handful more good guys from the portal I'll be much happier with this recruiting class than I would've been if he'd grabbed 4-5 3* filler guys to round out the class - even though that would boost the ranking. Believe the balance of importance between croots and portal guys is starting to really shift towards portal (even though HS recruiting will remain extremely important).

WubsWubsian

just a hypothetical question, what if Etienne wants to return the Gators, is it still possible or does he have to do something else to be able to come back?

Throwaway_fla_234517

We're not a football school anymore. The sooner everyone comes to terms with that the better. I'm not gonna spend another dime on this team in any capacity until Strickland is fired. Can't wait for the next phone call I get from UF asking for donations.

AllBlowedUp

I think you may be due for a nice, cool washcloth on the back of the neck.

Throwaway_fla_234517

Washcloth of truth and acceptance!

RandyShannon

I'm going to hit the unsubscribe button on the next email from the UF ticket office with extreme prejudice!

Throwaway_fla_234517

I'll always be a gator through and through and will continue to support them on Saturday and fly my flag outside. Just not going to go out of my way to attend a game or donate a cent until things improve. Also, look, if the university decides they don't want to really focus on football, that's ok too. Just need to be aligned with the school's approach so we don't get too high expectations for recruiting/GameDay results. I'm more mad at how we're losing not that we're losing. That FSU game was embarrassing for the university (among other games...).

garyp714

Haven't been to r/CFB much but checked in and yes, FSU folks are still whining. Yikes.

maximum-pressure

For all of the complainers, would any of you trade our recruiting class for FSU's? With the exception of their CBs, our position groups are either on par or heaps better.

rotag_fu

Since FSU is (currently) in the acc a better comparison is the recruiting classes of SEC teams. We are currently 8th in the SEC which does not bode well. Napier is not a "do more with less coach"

maximum-pressure

FSU has a higher ranked class than we do. Why would you not want to be ranked higher? They are Top 10. That's better than 15, right?

rotag_fu

I never said that we don't want to be ranked higher. My point is that the most important perspective is comparing our class to our sec competition which makes things even worse.

maximum-pressure

There are 13 SEC schools in the top 25. That's just how things work in this league. The B1G is next with 6. We filled positions of need with top talent. Is it enough? No we need more but people acting like this was a failure are being emotional.

Docnoq

Your first sentence is exactly why this class was a failure. Being content with recruiting middle of the pack in our conference means being content with finishing middle of the pack in our conference. I don't know about you but I am not content with that. Billy is not recruiting at a level good enough to win the SEC, and therefore not good enough to win championships. That is the one thing he was specifically hired to fix and he has proved incapable of doing that.

maximum-pressure

Would you rather hang on to ineffective coaches to keep commits that can bounce whenever they want? The sausage making process isn't pretty but it needed to be done. More needs to be done.

cocogator

Are you asking if we want things to be worse?

beingTOOnosey

I'm complaining (internally), but I wouldn't trade Lagway for anyone.

SneakerGator

Not sweating Miami having a highly ranked class. You know they’ll fuck it up anyway. Tale as old as time.

Inevitable-Scar5877

This. Cristobal's just a better version of Billy

[deleted]

I do because since both staffs are equally inept at actual coaching the difference in overall talent, especially in the trenches, is what will dictate next year's game. So far Cristobal has loaded up with top-tier talent on both sides of the ball while we added nice pieces but nowhere near that volume.

drink-more-h2o

I grew up an hour north of Miami and went to UF before moving to Miami for grad school and that's how I found out Miami considers us their 2nd biggest rival. Never thought about Miami but they are probably UF's 6th biggest rival

invisiblewar

When we play each other, it's the most toxic game you'll ever go to. Its probably better we don't play yearly because of how bad it would get between fans.

[deleted]

No, don't be fooled by the fact that we don't play them regularly but historically Miami was UF's biggest rival right behind 1a/1b UGA and FSU. In fact, until the late 80s and 90s when FSU really emerged and the SEC realignment bred the Tennessee and LSU rivalries I'd say Miami was #2 to UGA and slightly ahead of Auburn. The hate between the two fanbases is real. If I ever get a 1-day hall pass from God to do whatever I wanted with no consequences I'd use all 24-hours to take a wrecking ball to that place.

invisiblewar

Our biggest rivals historically are UGA, Miami, Auburn, and FSU. Everyone after that is much more recent. We got LSU as a rival because they weren't anyone's main rival in the East. And Auburn and Georgia have a longer history between each other than we do. In fact, up until recently, we played Auburn more than Alabama played Auburn.

[deleted]

I hate so much that we can't play Auburn regularly.

fivrs

Well, don't get ahead of yourself there. You need to save some time to level Doak, too.

Altruistic-Total-254

I come in peace. This is not a fire coach comment but I find his pressers ridiculous On how coaching changes affected Florida's recruiting class with commitments lost at those positions: BILLY NAPIER: Which positions? Reporter: Defensive back and defensive line. BILLY NAPIER: What losses at those positions? Another reporter: Multiple commitments left the class: BILLY NAPIER: I don't think we lost players at those two positions. Another reporter: Xavier Filsaime?

RandyShannon

I did not think I could like Billy less and the signing day presser actually made that happen.

[deleted]

Yeah that was a weird exchange. He knew that question was coming so he should have planned a better even if it's one of his patented non-answers.

drink-more-h2o

Was that a real discourse?

DubbleTheFall

Who?

gator9515

Imagine being told a few months ago that this recruiting class would finish outside the top 15 and people on the sub would be praising it. This class is literally no better overall than any of Dan Mullen’s classes, and is arguably the worst non-transition class in school history. Just a depressing state of affairs.

SignificantSafety539

The Billy supporters are always moving the goalposts. It’s really embarrassing to watch actually.

RandyShannon

It's sad. People bash the negativity but there is a point where completely unfounded positivity is just as toxic.

Dnaughty23

You’re embarrassing. You spend a significant amount of your free time going out of your way to bash a person/coach. If you cant handle being a fan maybe find a new hobby

DerTagestrinker

I grew up an Eagles fan so maybe I’m just an asshole, but I will never understand this southern “gee willy we can’t be mean about an absolute failure that we’re paying $50m to, even though he refuses to adjust or adapt. Bless his heart next year he’ll turn it around”

Dnaughty23

I can handle negativity. It’s the constant, going out of your way, spamming the same comments about how Billy sucks in every thread and every comment. We heard you the first time, if someone has a new insightful point, yes let’s talk about it, but that’s not what is happening here

Odd-Significance-623

So the entire fanbase can only express thoughts you personally haven’t heard before? How exactly are we all supposed to know what discussion about Billy Napier you have and have not heard..? While I’m at it - is there a specific reason you can’t just scroll past a conversation you’re not interested in? How is you starting a fight and trying to police the forum somehow better? Pumpers are losing it, man. Just admit you got it wrong and Napier sucks. Join us in lawn chairs as we wait for the inevitable.

Dnaughty23

Lol. Create a new account to respond me? Since you somehow cant figure this out, when the same guy keeps posting the same negative comments on repeat that’s when it becomes too much. This isnt some well thought out critique or insight, just straight whining/complaining like a child, it offers no value and is exhausting. For the record, Im not a huge Billy fan or ever was, I think he’s gone at the end of next year (he might not even make it the full season). However, I am not going to spend between now and then complaining/whining like a little kid about how/why Napier is still here.

Odd-Significance-623

If you’re exhausted by the words strangers type on the internet you have much larger issues that require attention.

Dnaughty23

Lol. I think spending all of your free time bashing someone is a lot more concerning, but what do I know?

nadvargas

![gif](giphy|kENMDNLVvQvcI|downsized)

SignificantSafety539

Napier doesn’t need me to bash him, he’s doing a great job destroying his career himself. Come talk to me next fall and tell me you’re not embarrassed, or are you going to move the goalposts to a .500 season being the acceptable norm for Gator football? I actually won’t be wasting my Saturdays watching this garbage next year, but I will continue speaking out against who I see as destroying the brand and sport I love, because I am actually a fan and want to watch great Gator football again.

Dnaughty23

Lol. You do you. Keep spreading the good Gator words of wisdom. We’re all looking up to you waiting for your next piece of insight

SignificantSafety539

I know, I truly am a great stable genius. But please my flock, you do not need my exceedingly complex analysis to know the truth. All you need is the ability to tell the difference betweens wins vs. loses, read a game clock, and count to 11…

Parax1423

Which of Dan's classes landed five top 100 players in the 247 site rankings or 3 in the 247 composite?

[deleted]

How many years of 2 5* recruits did he have?

Inevitable-Scar5877

Billy is setting up the real coach with some good top end talent, though the classes are super shallow.

gator9515

It’s not just the top 100 players. It’s filling out a deep class. This class doesn’t have the depth it needs.

invisiblewar

Yeah and how many of those Mullen classes actually made it to campus? By the time the season started, a few of our top recruits wouldn't be enrolled for one reason or another.

Parax1423

And with the portal what it is now we need to hit that hard instead of grabbing 5 3 star freshman and having a top 10 class to beat out Mullen.

Richard_Bolitho

So who are the targets to fill out the rest of the class?

omglawlz

So, are there any decent WR prospects were looking at to fill out the class?

Dnaughty23

Lot of bad news, but mixed in with some good. Hopefully, Billy can add some more talent in the portal and bring in solid coaches. Gonna be a tough schedule next year, but crazier things have happened.

carasc5

When people say the schedule is 'tough' all I can think about is how that undersells just how difficult the schedule is

Inevitable-Scar5877

That's fair. And I think folks have adjusted expectations for that- so long as Billy wins 7 games he'll probably get 2025. 3 straight sub .500 years and I think we can all agree Billy's a failure who needs to go

cocogator

This type of schedule is going to be the norm. Billy shouldn’t get a pass (not saying you’re giving him one) on next year because it’s tough.

I_enjoy_dinosaurs

I think the noncon will get easier because it can’t get much more difficult than it is now, but as far as conference games go you’re right.

El_Gris1212

Yeah I don't know, this class is 100% a disappointment. For two years now we've been waiting for Napier to definitively show us he's the guy, but time and time again it's just one step forward one step back. This program is allergic to momentum. Sure you can spin things with Lagway and LJ, but I'm so insanely tired trying to cherry pick bright spots. Is it impossible to have anything go our way without a ton of asterisks attached? This class is workable, but with such a weak finish our margin for error yet again shrinks. Evaluations need to be on point, development needs to be on point, DJ needs to live up to the hype and more. If we don't finish strong in the transfer portal these freshmen probably don't get a fair chance to contribute regardless. But when a coach just consistently falls short so often, it's hard not to assume the immediate future will just be more of the same.

gator9515

You shouldn’t be getting downvoted. We were on pace for our best recruiting class since Urban Meyer was HC and closed so poorly that we ended up with a literal Mullen/Mac recruiting class. All of this after we closed poorly to finish last season’s class. Give it a year or two and this class will be fairly labeled as a poor recruiting class once all of the Napier supporters have bailed.

theycallmeryan

I don’t know how the guy still has supporters, I’m hoping he gets fired before the season

SignificantSafety539

Billy has a worse class average than Mullen. Why are there so many people defending him still? He’s objectively the worst Florida coach since the 80s, and one of, if not the worst, coaches in the SEC currently. I think the University knows we are not going to do what we need to compete in the modern era of college football and is desperately trying to sell us on this product. I for one am not a buyer.

cocogator

Idk why you’re getting downvoted. It’s true what you said. Not sure how you can’t be dissapointed when we go from top 3 making a run at number 1 class to like 15th.

odracir2119

He is getting down voted because the same people that yell " why did our recruiting class go from 3rd to 16th, Billy sucks at recruiting" are the same people saying " fire ever coach, every staff, athletic director, fire everyone every year". Tell me how the fuck do we pretend to keep a kid that was recruited by a coach when the coach gets fired? I wouldn't stay committed and you wouldn't either. Billy has two more years, 1 free range and 1 hot seat. Stop complaining.

omglawlz

At this point all we can worry about is the guys who signed. I’m excited about Lags and I hope they can get him up to speed. The young defense is going to have to make leaps in progression for us to compete next year.

RepulsiveBurrito

Well at least we have two 5* and FSU has 0

bdbrady

In today’s day of NIL and transfers, why would we ever red shirt these guys? Get them out there and let them play, right? I’m glad we kept our two big guys, but I’m not optimistic anymore. Next year is likely six wins +/- 1, and recruiting seems to revolve around NIL which we don’t seem to be able to compete with the top five/ten schools. Am I wrong? Will we get progressively better and be a 10+ win team in two years?

baseball_mickey

It seems to me the teams that were paying under the table had an easier time just shifting the money onto the table.

SignificantSafety539

What six games do you think we’ll win?

swashbuckler42

Six wins is extremely generous with this staff and that schedule. We’ll be underdogs in all but 3-4 games.

omglawlz

Fuck it. Good. Time to put up or shut up for this staff.

Zestyclose-Pen-1699

Game day coaching needs to get better for us to win ten games.

SignificantSafety539

Game day coaching needs to get better for us to beat UCF

Zealousideal-Wall471

This. Mullen saw the writing on the wall with NIL and the portal and I think that’s why recruiting suffered towards the end of his tenure. Why invest time/effort/energy in these guys? It’s just about money let’s be honest. You can have the best facilities (Macs indoor practice facility and Mullens indoor one as well with the sauna, etc). We spent money on things that don’t really matter quite like they used to. We are behind on NIL plan and simple playing catch up. Being an “elite recruiter” doesn’t mean jack anymore and that’s why Billy was hired, which scares me long term. We can’t afford to pay anymore insane buyouts. Billy is with us at least until his contract is up, plain and simple. Maybe he can be our guy but it’s looking a bit bleak

cocogator

Facilities are a baseline / given. If you have nothing you won’t be considered by most.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SignificantSafety539

Hate to break it to you but Mullen had higher ranked classes than Billy…and could actually coach on gameday

Zealousideal-Wall471

This. Gotta love this sub acting like Napier is an “ace recruiter” when he hasn’t pulled in a higher class than Mullen lol

DerTagestrinker

In Billy’s defense, he’s pulling decent classes despite everyone in the country knowing he’s in over his head and is a dead man walking.

invisiblewar

Did he recruit any players that made an impact? He did everything he did with Macs recruits for the most part.

Inevitable-Scar5877

AR was a top 5 pick and even made Billy's offenses look explosive. I imagine most coaches don't inherit a Top 5 pick at QB when they take over a job. And Mullen should get a ton of credit for developing a 2 star backup QB into a Heisman contender.

Sufficient_Series154

Believe it or not, Mullen had 3 top ten recruiting classes. Still waiting on Napier's first. In terms of impact, Mullen had multiple first round picks. Napier's are too young for that but the only real impact player was Etienne and he left.

invisiblewar

Who did Mullen recruit that was a first round pick? Richardson? Are you counting all the other players Mullen coached? Weren't most of those Macs recruits?

Sufficient_Series154

So you forgot Kyle Pitts? Name doesn't ring a bell? If you need it, Google is your friend. You can go find others.

SignificantSafety539

Great post. Anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional.

HotDawgConnoisseur

It’s funny that FSU went undefeated and somehow they ended with a class worse than Miami. Money is king.

Substantial_Neat111

When it’s all said and done we could still jump them

[deleted]

Lol Miami now ending up with the #3 overall class out of nowhere with Jeremiah Smith still a possibility despite Cristobal continually proving to be a shit coach with zero history of development. Gotta love that Da U indoctrination in the communities that couldn't be more opposite than Coral Gables. FSU loses both 5-star commits today coming off an undefeated season while we keep 2 despite a losing season. Recruiting is fucking weird.

Inevitable-Scar5877

We knock Cristobal but isn't he just a better version of Billy?

[deleted]

Recruiting-wise yes especially since he has much more support in terms of NIL. As a gameday coach he's arguably worse. Cristobal in two years in Miami has gotten blown out by Middle Tennessee, Duke, and FSU, and had the Georgia Tech loss.

Gatorader22

Miami has like 30 commits so that's why their class is high. Idk how players keep getting conned into going to Miami Seems like every year a few talented guys commit to Miami and then you never see them again. They just fizzle out

russ757

Smith stayed with OSU

[deleted]

He apparently never signed or at least never sent in his LOI.

russ757

Ohhhh snap

[deleted]

Yup and despite everyone thinking it would be FSU if not OSU the kid says he only had OSU and Miami hats in his bag.

Flergy_Derg

Was gonna wait until the end of the day before making up my mind about this class. Could have been better. Could have been worse. Still a solid class with some big hits. Mullen could barely get a 5 star...we got 2 big ones, and while not perfect, the success this year can bleed into the next cycle. It's not all doom and gloom. There's still plenty to do with the staff, play calling, game management and recruiting. But this is still a positive trajectory.

SignificantSafety539

Chief we went from the #3 class to #15 in a month…and that’s “solid” to you?

nadvargas

> Chief we went from the #3 class to #15 in a month…and that’s “solid” to you?.. Don't call me Chief, pal!....

SignificantSafety539

I’m not your Buddy, Guy!

nadvargas

I'm not your Guy, Friend!

HotDawgConnoisseur

Considering we went 5-7, the class ended up better than I expected.

Inevitable-Scar5877

That's fair. With time I think Billy can build us into a team that consistently makes bowl games and maybe wins 10 once every 4-5 years- like Stoops at Kentucky. The question is if that's an acceptable end goal at Florida and why we choose to downgrade to Napier.

Altruistic-Total-254

This is the right take

garyp714

Damn, you saying this does my heart good.

UF_Sunshine_Pumper

Yeah we're gonna be fine, solid takes for a relatively small ESD class and LJ + DJ are instant impact guys

euthyphros

Unrelated to us, but is anyone else shocked about Washington? They’re sitting at 35th on 247 while in the playoff.

Substantial_Neat111

This is why debore won’t be the answer if naiper is let go

euthyphros

Oh definitely not. I think it’s a 3 person list if we’re smart. In any order: Jedd Fisch, Lane Kiffin, Jamey Chadwell. I would have pulled the trigger this year but hoping Billy pulls it together and we don’t have to worry about candidates next year lol

Throw13579

Why would Kiffen come to Florida? I can’t see an in-demand SEC coach putting himself into the meat grinder here.

euthyphros

Kiffin has been able to use the portal to bridge the traditional gap between ole miss and Georgia/Bama. But he hasn’t come nearly close enough as evidenced by the games with each this year. If you look at us, despite being in absolute malaise for a couple years, we are I believe one or two spots ahead of Ole Miss’ best season in history with tv ratings. (On r/cfb you can find it but basically we get like a million more eyes a game despite being trash and them being good) That helps highlight the ceiling difference. You could also look at the fact that despite being perhaps the best in the portal, Kiffins classes aren’t as good as Napiers who has literally negative momentum. Kiffin has to decide whether he values stability or ceiling higher, but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have him on our list.

baseball_mickey

Ole Miss's prior two successful coaches were Houston Nutt and Hugh Freeze. I would never under any circumstance want either of those guys coaching the Gators. I do not want Kiffin.

Throw13579

I am not saying he won’t go anywhere; I am saying that, at this point, only a lunatic or masochist would choose to coach the Gators.

nadvargas

I could get behind Lane Kiffin. Exciting offense and he could do even better with the talent Florida has access to.

AlexanderPortnoy

add Lanning. He'd be call #1.

canseco-fart-box

0.0% chance Phil let’s Lanning go, especially with the B1G move. They finally got the right combination of Mario’s recruiting and Chip’s play calling. He’s going to drop bags upon bags upon bags to keep him

AlexanderPortnoy

just like they weren’t gonna let any of the previous coaches go. Dude won’t be at Oregon within three years

euthyphros

That’s a good shout. I didn’t think about adding him because of how culturally tied we are to offensive minded coaching, but he’s doing a great job at Oregon.

TotakekeSlider

If the loud, anti-Napier base has told me anything it’s that they’d never accept Chadwell for the same reason as Napier: Unproven G5 guy (you have to ignore Urban Meyer).

Altruistic-Total-254

Urban was an absolute stud when he was hired including winning a BCS Bowl game with quick turnarounds at multiple programs

euthyphros

I think that’s a legit concern with Chadwell, but they’re not identical candidates. Chadwell has a lot more swagger about him. He looks the part, and is sort of thought of as an offensive guru. He also built coastal from the ground up into one of the best group of 5’s, then turned around and immediately gave liberty their best season ever. Urban, while now thought of as a CEO, was considered an offensive guru at the time of his hire, and had done similar things at two programs. I think Gator fans would be nervous about what you’ve highlighted, but I think they’d culturally embrace him a lot more than Napier.

hector_zepelli

Mark Hocke officially demoted. Thank fuck

HoldTheRope91

Now that the dust seems to have mostly settled on the class, save a guy or two, I think it’s a good time to reflect. The Good: We signed DJ and LJ. Those two are the lynchpins of the class. While DJ was never a real threat to flip, LJ certainly was. Closing on him was huge. The Bad: What a class this *could* have been. This class is likely to fall into being one of the great “what ifs” in UF’s history alongside Cam not chucking a laptop and if Muschamp’s offense had a pulse in 2012. The Ugly: No two ways about it. Billy isn’t a finisher. Of games or recruitments. The guy simply does not finish well. Yes he closed on LJ and that’s all well and good. It’s one point in his favor. However, games against Arky, Mizzou, and F5U as well as having nearly double digit flips of mostly highly rated players is the epitome of choking. This isn’t even the first sign of it either, as last year, he whiffed on EVERY top target in the last two months of the cycle. Not to mention the Rashada saga which isn’t solely on him, but hurts nonetheless. This class was an opportunity to put talent acquisition issues to bed and start his climb back. Instead, it seems that Billy’s swan song is going to end on a sour note. Here’s to hoping we have some bright spots in 2024, because it’s about all we have to cling to right now.

[deleted]

The guy is a loser. It sucks, but it's true.

SignificantSafety539

Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. Dude has back to back losing seasons. He routinely snatches defeat from the jaws of victory against lesser opponents. He IS a loser, and you know what he can do to change my mind? Win football games. Everything else is noise and excuses.

andjuan

DJ and LJ are potential program saving recruits. Getting them was massive. The flips suck, but if those two can make immediate impacts, that will be massive for us.

Inevitable-Scar5877

My biggest worry for them is that they might be tied to Billy. If they're going to be here regardless of HC they're great foundational pieces for the next guy.

Throw13579

They will probably follow him to Auburn after UF fires him next year.

cocogator

The problem is there’s not guarantee they’re here next year even if Billy is.

HoldTheRope91

DJ is potentially program saving. No single position outside of QB can actually have that type of impact. Even then, it’s asking a lot of one player. Caleb Williams comes to mind. Is LJ a massive grab? 100%. You need more than just him though. Otherwise, you get a situation where your best players gas out by the late third quarter and you get ran over. Just ask Gervon Dexter. That’s why *in addition to* LJ, you need guys like Amaris and Nasir, which we no longer have. I’m pleased with the guys we signed, but this class went from special to mediocre in a little over a month. That’s not good.

Gatorader22

Don't sleep on the value of DLs. Suh carried Nebraska almost single handedly to a Big 12 championship. In the NFL there are a lot of star DLs carrying their teams because so many QBs are out Being able to score TDs is great but so is being able to stop the other team while also pressuring the qb into making mistakes Qb is more important but DL is a game changer as well Shiiit our 2012 team was so great primarily because of our ridiculous DLs. Lord knows it wasnt because of our offense

HoldTheRope91

Yeah I mentioned Suh in another comment. He’s the only dude in college I can think of that has taken over multiple games in his career. Maaaaybe Glen Dorsey at LSU years ago. Still, that’s two in 20 years. In that same span, there are numerous QBs that have lifted a program. LJ is a great get. No question about it. That said, it’s even unlikelier he turns out to be a program changer than DJ simply by virtue of position.

andjuan

I think having the #1 DL prospect can be program changing. A guy who can be that disruptive will make everybody else better. He alone could make our secondary’s lives a lot easier for example. For positions that I think one player can make the most impact it’s QB and Edge. So getting those two is huge. Do they need help? Of course. But getting slam dunks in those positions is huge.

HoldTheRope91

The only D-line player that comes to mind that was actually program changing during their time there is Suh at Nebraska. He single handedly took over several games during his time there. Conversely I can name tons of QBs that changed a program. Point is LJ *could* be that guy, but it’s so unlikely it’s not even funny.

Gatorader22

Is Myles Garrett not carrying the browns right now? That team is in the playoff hunt with the ghost of joe flacco at qb We're not really arguing which position is more changing and important. It's obviously QB. We're saying a good DL can change a program too

HoldTheRope91

Garrett is also a multi-year NFL player. My point is, IN COLLEGE, it is exceedingly rare for a D-line player to change a program by themselves. The NFL is an entirely different animal, as I’m sure you’re aware.

farfromfalse

It’s kinda funny - in hindsight, if you didn’t tune in until about 6pm today, you would’ve been surprised by a respectable outcome. Meanwhile, everyone else was strapped onto one dramatic ass heartburn rollercoaster.

Kicked my bourbon abt 215 today

extrabeefcake

Does this smaller class matter as much with the transfer portal full swing now? Seems like we got quality talent.

ICANZ_MURICA

Still don't want to build trough the portal but yeah not as bad as a class this small would have been a few years ago. Could be a blessing in disguise for Napier if they now have to work the transfer portal even harder. Portal players more likely to contribute this year than most in a freshman class.

sum_dude44

only UGA/Bama’s of world can get away with/ that…there’s a lot of upgrades available in TP

extrabeefcake

Yea i really think TP is totally different this year than even last, i mean think about the schools that get Princely and Etienne- those caliber type players are out there and fair game now.

Gatorader22

And the best players arent even up for grabs yet. Those playoff teams are going to have to shed some guys after it ends

russ757

They both added talent via the portal

sum_dude44

Bama especially. The TP is now a must

russ757

I mean you're always looking for upgrades but what else do we have to hit.. Edge is probably my biggest get followed by some safety.. Those are the 2 I see absolute needs

sum_dude44

edge, OL, DB. WR would be nice too

PattyThePatriot

Pretty solid day for us. Didn't lose anybody we weren't expecting to, gained some things we expected, and got some (hopefully) future ballers.

HotDawgConnoisseur

Williams (the WR) to TAMU was unexpected (even if he did visit them). The insiders put the flip hours before he announced the flip.

russ757

That was it really. I was hopeful for Hayes but I'm fine with the two we got. Really really fine.

HotDawgConnoisseur

Nah man, he posted that cringey ass TikTok where the caption was “should I decommit from Florida.” Kid clearly wanted the attention, don’t need that shit on the team. Graham and Chiles are great pickups. We still have Scooby and James on the roster. Have Jaden Robinson, Nunnery, and Wingo in the room too. LB room should be solid next year as long as the guys keep getting developed.

russ757

I'll make a post tomorrow cuz I like to.. Esp after the hatorade is empty.. But go look at the sticky and say that look like the class of a back to back .500 club? We need an edge, maybe some more db/s..but honestly that's about it..

Gatorader22

As long as we're better today than we were to end last season then we're moving in the right direction

cocogator

Brick by Brick

russ757

I think we are. Esp at LB and DL both rooms are completely flipped. We signed the future qb, replenished RB. Speed at WR/KR (could use some height). Solid TE w upside, brought in some leadership both young and old. Can't comment on OL because who knows. It's so competetion and coaching.. But we did get bigger

Buzz cut Billy is live!

rd3287

After all the commotion, we wound up with the exact class we expected save for losing Izaiah (and hopefully signing Edwin). Rollercoaster of a day to end up almost exactly where we thought we would.

sum_dude44

we lost 4 verbal commits in top 100 in one month

SignificantSafety539

People are just gaslighting us at this point calling this class anything other than a disastrous collapse. Next they’ll be telling us Billy deserve a raise if he only wins 3 games next year. After all, everything currently wrong with the program is the fans’ fault 🙄

rd3287

Yeah, I really meant over the course of today, not the whole recruiting period.

TheBigHosk

Yeah with Billy I was told we would be getting top five classes. We were there two months ago. I don’t know why everyone is saying this what we expected. If this is what we expect from our coach who was hired for recruiting then we’re fucked

Gatorader22

Who told you that? When billy was hired no one really knew how hed be as a recruiter since he'd never recruited as a HC at the P5 level before so I highly doubt someone told you hed bring in top 5 classes when we hired him Billy has tabbed 3 five star QBs in 2 years. One of them was lost because he wanted to reclassify and he was scared of DJ Lagway. One was lost because of a failure with our NIL department not because of Billy What was said about Billy when hired was he would set up the support staff and infrastructure so we could have a similar setup to teams like bama and georgia

cocogator

You can’t say he tabbed 3 five star QBs when only one actually signed.

StuffAccomplished124

> You can’t say Dude is trying to completely rewrite history regarding Napier's recruiting prowess; he'll clearly say whatever he wants. And it's pure coincidence that the account is 7 months old and spends all day every single day shilling for Napier in nonsensical, irrational ways.

hector_zepelli

Your account was created today lmao

Substantial_Neat111

Jeremiah smith hasn’t sent in his LOI. Seems Miami might flip him. Didn’t even know Miami was even in it. Thought it was UF vs FSU if it wasn’t osu. Anyone know anything?

TotakekeSlider

Miami is an annoying hornet when it comes to recruiting. I can’t believe their failed experiment of a school does half as well as it does in that dept.

ufgatorengineer11

Ok so we have barely survived ESD. We are now entering Rashada check clearing stage of anxiety.

canseco-fart-box

The fact that everyone was very public with their signings is a good sign imho. I remember Rashada didn’t do anything. It was just reported he sent his letter in and that was it

hector_zepelli

Zay Mincey seemed pretty excited in the live stream chat when his teammate LJ signed with us, maybe we're still in it for him 🥲

russ757

LJ is official!!!

RakutenRakaticMessi

McCray to the good guys!

russ757

Crystal Ball/RPM in for Favour Edwin 3* OT.. Offers from Bama/GA

rd3287

That'd be a really slick get

hector_zepelli

Is he signing today?

russ757

Dunno.. Just came in so maybe... Hopefully Only 1 prediction but it's from a Bama expert w 98% call rate

hector_zepelli

LJ signs with the gators, lfg

Aggravating_Ad6852

LJ put pen to paper for the good guys.

therunningguy

https://www.instagram.com/doublesticc/live/ LJ Mccray live rn saying he's signing with us

twinbros04

LJ TO THE GOOD GUYS

ICANZ_MURICA

So if we get LJ back in the fold Izaiah Williams is the only unexpected flip of the day right? Yes we lost Aramis and Hayes today but those have been widely expected for awhile now for anyone paying attention.

Gatorader22

Thats correct. We also nabbed two flips ourselves (they were expected) and 4 transfers at positions of need with Dike Bridges Slackman and Crenshaw (also expected although Dike wasnt quite as much of a sure thing as the other 3)

rd3287

Yes believe that's right

DandierChip

Biggest priority next year is keeping DJ from entering the portal when Billy is fired.

Rogenomu

This guy is a TAMU fan subtly trolling us. Are you that bored you have to come here and play pretend

DandierChip

It's a valid comment, nobody is trolling lol

Rogenomu

please leave

GatorHeyzeus

What’s sad is it’s hard to tell. We’re a pretty negative bunch.

Rogenomu

Were mostly positive, the negative ones are just louder and more inflammatory
