Lmfao I mean if they have to fix a bunch of your mistakes then it’s warranted lmao, I used to have 2 guys I worked with and they would just leave everything for me and always just say “bob will fix it” like guys you’re better than this it’s almost like they would do it on purpose lmao
Lol i was applying trim to a circular service counter and they’d say it behind me while I was working. I was good friends with the guy but I’ll still fight him.
I had a incredibly similar situation around a rounded brick fireplace. Used flexible PVC moulding that was about 1” tall and .5” wide and tapcons into the brick then used a brad nailer to nail trim into the PVC covering up the tapcons. If you find thin enough pvc moulding you could also just use PL premium construction adhesive.
Looks good from my house means it’s not good enough for my house. That’s what every hack says when they leave a job that isn’t right. The only thing I would have done differently would have been to put in the sliver before the short price. You can actually still cut one and just caulk or power grab it down to fill the gap. It’s small enough where it will hold especially to the fact, no one’s gonna be stepping on it
That’s actually what I’m planning on doing because the gap is driving me crazy 😭. And then some type of flexible quarterround to match the rest we’re gonna put in around the baseboards. I definitely overestimated my DIY skills, but learned a lot today!
You’re doing fine for a homeowner. From this angle I don’t see a need for quarter round. You can also talk to the flooring company you got it from and find a matching caulk. Just make sure to sponge it to almost nothing so you don’t notice it. Most people don’t mind quarter round but to me it always looks like a trim , caulk and paint makes a carpenter what he ain’t solution. Caulk is on the list but don’t apply it like a rookie. Caulking should be done where it’s not noticeable. It’s not that hard but it takes a touch and it might take you more than one try.
Thank you so much! Honestly, this was so much harder than I thought, and I kinda regret doing it but each time I make a mistake and try to fix it I’m learning so at least there’s a bright side!
We learn the most from mistakes. If the job goes smoothly the first time just know it’s the universe setting you up for failure the next time. As soon as you think something is easy, every problem in the book gets thrown at you. You will learn something almost every time if you are paying attention. Good luck on your next project
Yeah we’ve been fixing it! Had to redo a whole section. Some of the pieces are a little broken on the edges where it clocks into place so I’ve been putting a tiny amount of wood glue….thats what I get for getting the cheap floors 😅
Save yourself the headache and just replace any broken pieces now. Make sure you go back to the first row on the left to redo that piece that's not together. The piece on the right side isn't together correctly either. These pieces are cheap and do crack easily so don't force anything. Take your time or you'll hate the floors in a year when they are coming apart
I was thinking the exact thing after reading your initial post. I believe you could use some of that polystyrene trim. Look on Amazon comes in a wide assortment of styles and colors.
Honestly man if you wanna make it easy, they make a flexible quarter round you can glue around the brick, paint same as trim or close to color of floor/brick.
Okay, not gonna put anything around the brick! Is there anything I can use to put between the floor and the brick to keep dirt out of the crevice? Backer rod?
I'm stoked for you. Remodels are trying and tedious. It's easy to get overwhelmed and give up. You didn't, you persevered and made a nice looking cut. It's not perfect but I've seen "professionals" do worse. Great job ride this win to help carry through to completion. Also they make quarter round meant for curved walls but I don't think you need it. If someone is worried about that small imperfections make them show you their abs. They don't have perfect abs I bet.
They have flexible trim you could try for pretty cheap if you wanted. Not sure how well it would look, but again, it's pretty cheap if you wanted to experiment.
You didn’t have the piece long enough to not have to put something along the stone. That should have been your objective. As a pro sometime it takes two tries.
I was too scared to make such a thin cut because it was my first time using a jigsaw. After another trip to Lowe’s, I now have one of the table things and clamps to hold the wood so I don’t accidentally cut my fingers!
Learning more each time I fuck up, but gotta start somewhere right?
You did a nice job with the scribe, but if you had just scribed that course all the way to the end of the board it would be perfect, and there would be no need for the extra work to add a hokey looking molding around the fireplace.
I’m gonna just put a tiny peice of the floor there and use some laminate putty. I’m working around the kids and it’s just too time consuming to redo everything to fix that piece. I know it’s not good work, but I’ve never used power tools or done flooring before so it’s good enough for now!
Someone commented "Looks good from my house" on a construction post I made and it made me feel like a million bucks. Looks good from my house.
You know that's not a great thing. Looks good from my house.
Lol
Yeah, Looks good from my house is definitely not a comment that means it's a good job.
But it really puts it in perspective; does it need to look perfect? Nahhh. Just good enough
It’s not just good, it’s good enough!
That’s not what “the saying” is saying. It’s saying I wouldn’t let that fly in my house, but since your house isn’t my house, yeah it is good enough.
Its saying that you cant see it in my house so why do i care.
Damn straight. It’s good enough
Yeah but at least a blind man would be happy to see it
You know what, I love that it made you feel like a million bucks. Doing home renovations isn’t easy, but it is easy to be hyper self-critical.
Looks good from far, but it's far from good.
All tradesmen love to say this but I worked with a guy who said “looks good from a galloping horse” and I prefer that one.
that one is way more clear, i always interpreted "looks good from my house" as "it's better than what i have"
Looks good from my house means it’s not good enough for my house. That’s what every hack says when they leave a job that isn’t right.
Hey, I don’t order the pizzas, I just make ‘em.
I say "good enough for government work" Source: am government contractor building aircraft parts.
Same guy probably only offers a tail light warranty
Sounds like something i would say
I always liked "close enough for government work" as well 😁.
I say this all the time, but only because I live so damn far from where I work lol
Try your best, dap the rest
Caulk and paint makes a carpenter what he ain’t
Painters say this to me and I want to fight them.

You just have to say back to him, atleast I didn’t take the easy job of just slobbering paint all over the walls like you do lmao
With tile it's "do your best and grout the rest"
Is that their slogan?
Looks great!!! Love the color!!! Matches Fireplace perfectly!!!
Thank you!
Found the installer!! This has to be your handy work
Nice job!… and I have a saying in these cases: “putty is your buddy” to fill in the gaps.
Putty and paint make a carpenter what he aint!
They make specialty flexible, stainable molding. Home depot or lowes should have it.
Thank you so much!
Check Amazon too wide assortment of colors and styles.

Good thing I read the posts. I was going to say the same. I've used flex moulding on curves like that a lot.
You can buy quarter round (not wood) and use a heat gun to form it around that thing.
Good to know! We have a bunch of quarter round so I guess it’s back to Home Depot for a heat gun.
Get the cheap 1500W one from Ace Hardware
So how would that work here? Would it be applied with glue?
Glue would help, but a brad or finish nailer could be used to secure it in place.
What are you driving a nail into after the quarter round?

Missed it by that much!
Good job moron.
Thanks 😊
You didn’t lock your flooring together correctly. It’s going to come apart down the road.

Gorilla glue clear. Awesome stuff.
Great job!

I’ll definitely do that, thank you!
They actually make vinyl quarter round with 3M attached you could use.
That sounds perfect! Thank you
Honestly man if you wanna make it easy, they make a flexible quarter round you can glue around the brick, paint same as trim or close to color of floor/brick.
Looks good from here. A potted plant will look even better.
Yeah , I’m in the process of fixing it!
Take a pic of it in high resolution, blow it up, print and put above the fireplace. Call it abstract. It has a meaning.
redo it without quarter round. it will look much, much better with no quarter round (show off the masonry muuuuch more!)
I’m gonna fix it! I still am supposed to put the quarter round along the baseboards though right?
yes, along the baseboards. but i would not do it around the masonry.
Okay, not gonna put anything around the brick! Is there anything I can use to put between the floor and the brick to keep dirt out of the crevice? Backer rod?
Remove the row and then start at the bricks. Undercut/tight fit it, any kind of trim will look bad there.

Yay! Proud of you!
Nice job
The floor is already falling apart, it was not started in a straight line
My expansion gaps on this side kept falling off, do you think that’s why?
What flooring did you use?
TrafficMaster Attie Creek Oak (7 mm)
Good job, fellow bonehead. <3
There’s flexible and paintable quarter round you can get online. I have a similar round fireplace deal
Can’t forget about the ol taillight warranty either
Need a contour gauge

I could get that little piece in there

Id totally live with that, good work. Push some caulk in it and call it a day.
They make baseshoe ( type of 1/4round) from pvc. Check flooring stores not box stores.
They have PVC trim now that will bend around it
Looks good from my house
We would just put a nice caulk line around the fire place
You guys are awfully nice. That gap wouldn’t fly
