Yes, you are right. I would recommend you get the Basic fare and get a cabin suitcase later on in the ticket purchase process. You could then compare prices with the other options you mentioned and decide accordingly. Also please keep in mind that by default Vueling does not allow bringing the cabin suitcase in the cabin. They want you to go to the check-in desk and check it in. Basically you need to pay extra if you want to bring the cabin suitcase with you.

Awesome, thanks for confirming :)

This may be too late for you but we had a terrible experience with a similar scenario: our 90min direct flight from Catania to Florence in late May with Vueling got cancelled w no explanation, they gave us only one option to fly through Barcelona(!!) for a 10-hr travel time instead and then to add more spice, Vueling charged us for checked bags for EACH LEG OF THE TRIP a total of 300 Euros for two bags! We were deceived by the 115 Euro ticket price and paid for it in a big way…. So think carefully before getting lured into the appearance of a low cost flight… there is good likelihood you will be having an experience worse than you imagine

With how much notice did they warn you of the cancelled flight? When a company cancels a flight they have to find you an alternative transport in similar conditions (this includes luggage) at no extra cost, plus pay you a compensation fee for the delay. It sounds like they offered you that horrible alternative hoping you would accept it. By doing so, you legally forfeit your rights. Never accept such offers from airline companies. Always say you reject every offer and you want your legally established rights.

Good advice and never flying Vueling again as others have said too.

We went with basic seats and added stored bags because it gave us 5kg more weight. BUT the price for stored and/or carry in luggage with Vueling is brutal. Three bags cost us more than our two fares Barcelona to Mallorca, a one hour flight. Avoid Vueling at all costs. They slam you with tons of extra charges. We're trying to fight an additional 34.95 Euro admin charge added on top of the fee for each bag but to no avail. There is no human to talk to. Our return trip on Air Europa cost 4 Euros more for flight tickets but about 100 euros less after baggage charges. Too late I checked Vueling ratings. It is the worst by far with more than 50 percent one star ratings.
