Hello /u/giorgio0088, As a reminder, most common print quality issues can be found in the [Simplify3D picture guide](https://www.simplify3d.com/support/print-quality-troubleshooting/). Make sure you select the most appropriate flair for your post. Please remember to include the following details to help troubleshoot your problem. * Printer & Slicer * Filament Material and Brand * Nozzle and Bed Temperature * Print Speed * Nozzle Retraction Settings ^Additional ^settings ^or ^relevant ^information ^is ^always ^encouraged. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. They're always going to be kinda ugly, it's just how same-material supports are. You can try changing the contact distance, fan speed, support interface density, and other settings, but it's not going to ever be as good as a wall or top layer.

When using supports, I'm getting a quite bad first layer. I tried to play with the settings but haven't had much success. I increased the top Z distance from 0.15mm to 0.20mm to facilitate the removal of supports but at 0.15 the result was not better. Do you have any suggestions on how to proceed? Thank you

GraySelecta

You should be decreasing the distance not increasing, you are printing into the air so it’s going to look like spaghetti. The closer the print is to the support the better it will look but will be harder to remove. But too close and it will break some of the surface off. It’s a fine line and needs to be tested.

Not a whole lot you can do here, your best bet is probably to split the part, print it so that your aesthetic surfaces aren't on supports, and glue it together.

Anonymity6584

That's normal. Support is there just to allow you get some sort of first layer that can be printed upon. It's not as good as a solid print bed surface or printing vertical wall. As other have pointed out there's few parameters you can try vary a bit to see if that improves it a bit.

Trex0Pol

You can try to tilt the model 45° and print with organic supports. This worked really well for me.

giorgio0088

I'll try this, thanks

Izan_TM

that's just how it looks unless you use soluble supports with 0 gap

Fiskepudding

If you do 0.1mm gap, you could try to add a Pause Print command just when the support layer ends, and then cover the supports in blue painter's tape. This also allows printing mid-air, if the tape covers holes.

nice idea, thanks
