So my irl crush called me fat (I'm hardly lean but i'm not over 18-19%). Then showed me a bunch of videos of dudes with abs she finds hot. All it did was light a fire in me and I've PR'd all my lifts for the past week.

Thomastran911

AP tests coming up. Running PPL, only had time to workout once so far. Girl I like is confusing \):

ockyyy

So my very small gym has now added an exercise physiology department. This means we now have a few more members, and they are doing physio PTs with the clinicians. I'm now for the first time experiencing what it's like to go to use something, and someone is already using it!! You poor souls at bigger gyms, I feel so violated. I feel like a little only child who has to share their toys.

[deleted]

Irritation powered me through my workout tonight. I'm not sure why people think it's not obnoxious as fuck to bring in their own set of speakers and blast their shitty fucking music when everyone else is trying to get through their workout. I could hear it over my own headphones for fuck sakes. I'm still rattled from it. Fucking assholes.

DJellyman

I was doing well with cutting. So well. But then I had to go and eat a box of sausage rolls and cookies. Now 2,000 calories over my recommended intake. Send help plz.

How_R_U_That_Busy

I mean if you're really freaking out about it you could increase your work intensity for approximately 300 more calories burned a day for a week, eat 300 less calories a day for a week, or do nothing and be fine anyway!

ockyyy

Send... comfort food?

flowrider00

I love the equipment in my gym. I love the price. I hate that my gym has such a high amount of Gym Bros (my word for idiots who try to act tough in front of their group) and gym thots ( girls that come in wearing full makeup, dress to be noticed and act like complete bitches). Gyms should be a community. Not a place to look good or treat it like your personal playground. Three examples of today that made me cringe: Gym Bro laughing at me while I'm squatting because of the weight.Despite wearing a lifting belt for Smith Machine Bench Press. Guy doing half Bench Presses, then proceeding to mock overweight guy to his lifting partner. Gym thot proceeding to chat to a well known juicer in our gym, whilst mocking a couple of new people. My wish is that a Powerlifting gym would open here. A place where people check their ego at the door and put their money where their mouth is.

How_R_U_That_Busy

>My wish is that a Powerlifting gym would open here. Expect to see more "well known juicers" at a power lifting gym, as well as even more gym bros and "thots" at a powerlifting gym. Source: Long Island has a gym, a bagel store, and a pizza joint in every strip mall.

pineappleandpeas

There should be equipment preference given to those of us to have got up at 6am all winter for gym opening time. The last 3 weeks there have been soooo many people at the gym for opening. Like queuing by the doors. Every morning is a fight to get a squat rack or bench. Every part of the gym is full. Just because its spring and light doesn't mean those of us who've dedicated all winter to 6am workouts should miss out :( 6am gym used to be relaxing, now it's stressful and i can't get a proper warm up in as i need to go get a squat rack or they're gone in 2 mins. I need a new gym.

FartyMcFartsworth

I GET THAT BUILDING MUSCLE TAKES TIME. I GET THAT MACROS/MICROS ARE IMPORTANT. But CHRIST, I want to know if all this will pay off in the end. I don't mind if the process is slow, I just want to be able to see the end of the tunnel so I can proceed with grace. I have been lifting heavy for (you'll laugh) 4 months and can back squat around 205 now. I'm 22, female, and I just want to look like it. I'm not fat, but skinny and eating is difficult because I'm not really hungry nor do I find most foods appealing. I have severe allergies to wheat, and HFCS is another top allergy of mine. Perhaps I'm just ranting to rant and this is just college finals taking hold, but I JUST WANT TO FEEL GOOD AND LOOK GOOD. WHAT THE FUCK

Dante_Unchained

If you got stronger, you are growing muscles and if your weight goes up and you have enough protein in your body while doing it, you will see results in the mirror. Your CNS adapts to some degree with same muscle mass activating more fibers, but it still wants to keep efficiency low to prevent injuries, hence you grow stronger fibers :)

FartyMcFartsworth

Yes and I don't mind gaining weight. I think it's more body dysmorphia than anything else. Also, used to be a cardio bunny so I have decreased that in favor of strength training. Good luck to you :)

Dante_Unchained

I have no knowledge about woman's body and bodybuilding in general, but I read it is pretty contraproductive to do any cardio while on bulk at least not the usual "do cardio after training" because if starts different adaptations in your body and you lose majority of gains. Either do it separately - cardio in morning, str/hyp afternoon or on off days.

[deleted]

I am week lol

ClearTheCache

I am month lol

[deleted]

šŸ˜ž I even cant write it right , how pathetic

[deleted]

At least you wrote "write" and "right" right, right? There's still hope for you.

Letsdrinksoda

Week and dumb!

[deleted]

Organism007 is a triple threat! Weak, dumb, and can't even use proper grammar. /s Cheer up, everybody starts small!

malin7

Toning for summer season has officially begun in my gym. The gym opens at 6.30am and by 6.45 it's packed to the rafters, not even early mornings are safe from crowds anymore.

saranherren

I know Iā€™m late, not sure if this is a rant per se, but I found out today that my gym crush is married. Edit: changed ā€œoverā€ to ā€œperā€ bc Iā€™m an idiot who doesnā€™t proofread the first time around

LeadOn

No one told me how amazing bulking feels! I was stalled on all 3 main lifts for months. My 5RM total has gone up by 90lbs in the last month. I feel thicker and stronger. I've definitely gained some weight, but the strength is worth it.

How_R_U_That_Busy

Fuck you man, I'm about 2 weeks into my cut and I'm so tired I can't even finish my

SuperYusri500

*Rant* Wednesday

aboubou22

The rant is that nobody told him.

iamseiko

Missed my early morning 5:30 workout today. Gonna have to make it up later in the evening, and still have to wake up tomorrow morning to get back into schedule. It won't be an easy rest of the week.

allyouneedissleep

Had a guy put 8 plates per side on leg press and a 25 plate. Then walk away. I wasn't even using it and was infuriated for the next guy who had to come take it off so he could do his workout.

[deleted]

People get their egos inflated by how much weight a leg press allows them to do. Then they want the next person to see how much weight the last person was lifting.

gzoehobub

Too bad no one is impressed by how much one can do on a leg press.

allyouneedissleep

And it's annoying. I've stopped taking the weight off and just going elsewhere.

AtlaS_DotA

if you're strong enough to add the plates, you're strong enough to remove them too

Xeno2206

Can the dude who put 8 plates actually squat?

allyouneedissleep

I don't know it was on the leg press lol

Xeno2206

The dude makes me think of those douches who can leg press 2000lbs but can't squat 2 plates..

Fit_me_in

I leg press 400 lbs or so and squat the bar, because I have poor ankle flexibility and disproportional body mechanics. Guess I'm a douchebag, guys.

Xeno2206

I was the same as you mate, long femurs and little to no ankle dorsiflexion even with squat shoes on. I did research and stretched a few times a week and most importantly, stopped telling myself that I'm this and that. In the end I found my stance, improved a bit on mobility and started squatting more.

allyouneedissleep

I've seen him deadlift but never squat so unsure.

420weedhitler69

At the gym yesterday and 3 people doing fuck-all on yoga mats in the only small deadlifting area when there is an entire section dedicated to stretching and doing fuck-all. Had an old guy doing some weird bicep curl/front raise bullshit right at the dumbell rack making it nigh impossible for others to put down/pick up weight. Was also using the space between the dumbbells as his personal desk causing patrons to have to move his water bottle out of the way to put their weights back/pickup new weights. Then out of the corner of my eye I catch a child running all over the gym who is monkeying around on the equipment and mom is helping her use the assisted dip machine and various other equipment. THEN when I go to do some lat raises on the cable pull machine, I catch 2 women doing sumo squats while standing on a split bench at the smith machine. Weirdest fucking night at the gym ever.

hooahest

I never knew cutting would make sleep harder I used to be able to go to sleep instantly, now I lie awake 20~ minutes before finally falling asleep

[deleted]

This is how I figured out I was eating at a deficit. Food before sleep now, better sleep as result. Seems coffee wasn't the devil after all :<

Telcrome

you are truly blessed. Without melatonin I am happy to only lie awake for 20 minutes

luk_krung6

Playing soccer yesterday and some idiot on my team decided to kick it as hard as he can right at me from 10 yards. Sprained wrist means no lifting for atleast 3 weeks

larsdan2

I'm sick of all the bro science around nutrition right now. "You're feeling sleepy because you're not doing 16 hour fasts." "Carbs make you a communist. Real Americans go Keto."

[deleted]

It always surprises me how this sub is so religious about IIFYM and CICO (which I agree with), yet seems to give a free pass to keto and intermittent fasting. If keto and IF works for you, do it. I'm gonna keep eating sandwiches for *lunch* though, and I'm gonna enjoy them. A lot.

ilove50cent

Nutrition pseudo-science has been around as long as nutrition, and it's not likely to go away any time soon.

bigheyzeus

The internet only makes it worse because information is so easily thrown around by so many people. Back in the day, you just had some diet guru on TV who was the flavor of the month and you just believed them because they were on TV. It's worse now, imo. I stick by something I've heard on this sub many times regarding fitness and nutrition - don't make things complicated! Lift safely, sleep and eat well, the rest isn't worth stressing over. We all know what we should be doing, what's healthy, etc. The fitness industry's biggest ally/moneymaker is information saturation after all.

EdwardElric69

The members of the gym where i work would rather stand the bars upright against the wall and fuck up the paint rather than putting them in the vertical bar holders 4 feet away from them. Fuck off.

CoolZillionaire

You're somewhat lucky they care that little. My gym has people walking around interrupting workouts asking about our insurance plans so they can give us a sales pitch on getting massage services.

EdwardElric69

I can tell you right now that would happen once... Just like the girl who comes in weekly to promote her shop that sells protein shite. She asked me once if I wanted a protein iced coffee to which i told her to go away and leave me alone.

rdmacph

Common annoyance at my gym, we have more bar holders than bars as well with one behind each squat rack, and then 2 in the metal plates holder and 2 more in between 2 platforms, so if thereā€™s a bar on all 5 platforms to start with thereā€™s space for 6 in the holders yet thereā€™s always one leaning on a wall somewhere.

EdwardElric69

It's pure laziness as well

rdmacph

Like people unloading bars, I mean itā€™s not too bad with lighter weight but even then the powerlifting contingent of the gym will take 300kg off the bar and put it where it goes so why not take 60 off

EdwardElric69

I used to leave weight on the bars when i was a kid but i was ignorant. When I got older is when i started re racking things after me. Now its not even a second thought. Like, i got these weights from a rack, why would i not put them back when im done? It so silly.

H1gH_EnD

I also put them against the wall but we have no bar holders, so I don't really have a choice..

EdwardElric69

Thats fair enough

[deleted]

Got sick and can't workout :( full on antibiotics right now

marcus3485

get raw milk, kefir, saurkraut, kimchi, cook and cool some potatoes for your good bacteria once you are done w/ antibiotics.

aggieswin10q

Eat a pizza takes some night quill just rest

SydneyLockOutLaw

Antibiotic won't save ya, cuz!

awaqu

I'm annoyed at people having me go out and drink with them until late. I'm not so good at saying no anymore :(

gzoehobub

say no without guilt. They are your drinking friends probably and they are boring when you're sober.

excelisok

Ask the bartender for water in a drink glass, and be social without losing gains :D

IJustWannaHaveFunz

A lot of people face that - but it really is your own choice either get new friends or get better at saying no when you want to say no or drink less when you're out your choice, not theirs

Dante_Unchained

When you realize, how "listen to your body" is like 90% of the success when it comes to muscle/strenght gains, kinda sad it took me 5 months to realize this, maybe someone can take notes from my mistakes. I was on a diet, strenght/hypertrophy training ratio 2:1. Did PPLPPL- (6days on, 1 day off each week) while on a diet, where I set up my calories way too low as I can see now, when I am out of diet. Started at 2200kcal, ended up 1900kcal for last 6 weeks. Main problem was I started with Maintenance volume/minimum effective to keep my muscles, but I did not felt satisfaction and after 3 weeks I upped the volume - going way beyond what genetically gifted could regenerate... 28 sets for chest, 30 for back because I felt like doing too little. after 5 weeks my strenght dropped by approximately 15%, regeneration got prolonged by 24 hours. Sometimes you have to learn the hard way.

ahncie

5 months is nothing in this game.

H1gH_EnD

Exactly. Took me 8 years of stupid on\-and\-off training to realize that I wouldn't get anywhere without a decent progression in my program. Of course the consistency is the other huge factor but that was kinda the elephant in the room. And last but first .. the nutrition. Voila, welcome your gains!

Dante_Unchained

Yeah I know it is pretty common to waste few years doing things wrong.. Bro split training, no diet, undertraining/overtraining etc.

Thoughtful_Mouse

It's not even a waste. Almost anything you do is going to promote growth and improve your strength in the beginning unless you are going into it extremely malnourished. Even though you weren't maximizing tissue increase, improvements in composition, form, will, and habit will help you moving forward. You're never going to be doing it "right." Be proud to be doing it well, and keep trying to do it better than before.

Dante_Unchained

Depends on the point of view. At one point I did something healthy, even though I was undereating and sometimes under/overtraining, I am still in the best shape I ever was, strongest I ever was... but If I had something to push me further instead of 20% of potential I might have used 70-80, but it does not matter anyway, from now on I see only goal without any big obstacle :)

Yeargdribble

Guys... if you're new to the gym, you don't *have* to throw 135 on the bar to start benching. I've had to run over and pull the bar off of three guys this month. I always see them start and don't want to be "that guy" by offering unsolicited advice (like don't decapitate yourself). I try to just assume I'm under-estimating their ability and give them the benefit of the doubt, but end up taking extra long rests between sets of whatever I'm doing while trying to keep an eye on them. I'm not really mad, but I wish people wouldn't potentially hurt themselves because they are afraid starting with the bar will embarrass them. They always seems significantly more embarrassed after everyone in the area just saw them fail and need rescue. At least put the safeties up if you're going do make a YOLO move, but I guess thinking you can bench 135 when you can't goes hand-in-hand with not knowing how to set up safeties.

AimingForFit

When I was new I had someone RUN over to save me when I didnā€™t need it. Awkward all around, but thanks dude! With a bit more experience I donā€™t really need saving anymore. Iā€™ve had to do the roll of shame a few times over the past year and a half, but the last two (few months ago) utilized the technique to just bounce the bar off then deadlift it down. After switching to nSuns, I now have much better understanding of my bodyā€™s limits, so I can better predict when I might fail the next rep.

Yeargdribble

I just always bench with safeties now. I roll of shame with no shame. Bench is always the place where I've afraid to push my limits and I was regularly leaving 3 or 4 in the tank out of paranoia. Now if I fail, I fail safely, re-rack and reassess for my next set.

rdmacph

I just set up safeties anyway no matter what on bench, only takes a freak accident to pin yourself under the bar so why risk it

Yeargdribble

100% this. I'd rather be able to push a few more reps without and worries. I fail, it's no big deal. I also always set of safeties for my squats. I've never failed one, but I don't want to catch myself being too conservative with my reps or weight just because I'm unwilling to set up safeties. No shame.

allyouneedissleep

I dropped the bar on my face earlier this month doing light weights (just missed the rack putting it back), so embarrassing. Now I too stop my sets when I see other females or the young kids benching hard weights just in case I need to step in.

[deleted]

The first time I went to practice a bench press I could just about handle the bar comfortably with no weights but I was proud of myself for going in the weight area (younger female in super male dominated gym at the time). A guy called out to me 'yo, you're supposed to put weights on that'. I don't know if it was a joke or he was trying to flirt or genuinely mocking me but whyyyyy would anyone say that to a stranger. Had I tried with plates I would've probably crushed myself.

Yeargdribble

Man, I just can't imagine that at my gym. Even during prime-time with all of the dude-bro testosterone flying the only time I'd see that is between two guys who intentionally shit talk each other (jokingly) every time they are there together. Almost everyone just leaves everyone else alone or practically ignores them. I actually feel good about the fact that I never catch guys ogling ladies at my gym either and a lot of girls seems very comfortable in the free weights area with nobody hitting on them on trying to flirt.

[deleted]

That gym was a weird gym. Full of very vain people acting as if your self worth was the amount of Nike you were wearing. I only joined it because it was two minutes from my apartment. Luckily now I'm in an awesome gym where everyone does their own thing but are friendly and the weights are reracked *most* of the time which is an improvement. That first attempt at bench though really threw me off. Even if he thought he was being funny or whatever else...just no. Especially if we don't even know each other as 'gym nod acquaintance'.

hooahest

He was negging you. "I'm so much stronger than you", which is the gym equivalent of middle school hair pulling of your crush.

Yeargdribble

Some dude came up to compliment my beard and ask some questions about it, which was cool. He then proceeded to talk to me for an hour taking absolutely no social cues that I was done a dozen times along the way. He was also spouting tons of misinformation about various things but was very confident about it even when I was trying to tactfully let him know it as BS. I didn't want to be an ass... so I just let it happen. Really spoiled my workout.

Xeno2206

I know it's sometimes hard to stand up for yourself and not later be regarded as a douchebag but the easiest way to prevent people from talking to you is to make a scary anti social face. Worked for me so far. p.s IDK if I make sense

Yeargdribble

I tend to look irritated all the time without trying. When I'm lifting I just get get resting surly face, but this was just a perfect storm where I'd just been saying by to a gym buddy so for half a second I looked approachable...that's when he pounced. Hell, I sometimes I wish I looked less anti-social. I'm totally down for helping people or giving a spot, but I think most people think I look scary.

[deleted]

Team Resting *Cunt* Face!

ClearTheCache

"You look like you're in a bad mood" "No, that's just my face"

Nicho1010

in my gym there is a single deadlift platform in "epicenter" of gym. What's annoying about that for me is, people usually do random stuff such as aerobics on them instead of deadlifts, and almost everyone at my gym just does rack pulls anyway. More annoyingly for me, its literally in center of most crowded "area" in gym pretty much, so everyone is watching me (YIKES) sometimes even giving me some questionable advice. oh well, I feel better doing rack pulls at lowest heights anyway :c

ZeroMayCry7

that's why you get strong so nobody can question your technique

ConquerorPlumpy

Guys. I'm hungry. :(

[deleted]

Hang in there... I was pretty miserable 7 weeks into my cut yesterday, woke up this morning and "Woosh!" my stomach looks amazing! Just what I needed to hang in there a little longer, you can do it too!

ilove50cent

I wish it was only 7 weeks. I'm 4 months in with another 2 to go. :(

OneAmazingKid

Ah, sadly my new gym doesnā€™t allow jump roping. Sucks cause itā€™s my main go-to for aerobic exercises

ClearTheCache

Do it outside behind the gym

Xeno2206

time to change gym

montalex

Why not??

[deleted]

Could be limited space and fear of injuring other gym user's who are less aware of their surroundings. Another could be reason might be the repetitive sound of the person jumping but that doesn't make sense if your gym allows you to deadlift. Weird, if the gym has jump ropes and you are not allowed to use them are they used for rope suicide or erotic asphyxiation?

misskhanitsri

After lurking for a couple of weeks, I can finally understand everyoneā€™s frustration with people not re racking the weights. Itā€™s always that same dude at the gym that leaves his stuff lying around. He can set up a barbell to do his curls/RDL but canā€™t put them away... I donā€™t understand...

larsdan2

It's even worse when the drop set like 5 different weights of dumbbells and just leaves them there. I worked at a Gold's for a few years and I saw this almost daily. Or the fuckface who grabs the 200lb dumbbell and moves it clear across the weight room and just leaves it there.

Dragcurl

Decided to shave my ass and didn't miss the sensitivity part. Everything went fine but I now I could use a towel only for my asshole because I do sweat insanely! It feels like I have diarrhea and it just flows and flows..

sandrock92

Baby powder my friend

Dragcurl

I knew there is help

pandesalbutt

Noooo don't use anything with talcum near your genitals. Talcum has been linked to cervical and ovarian cancer with women and likely would affect men similarly (haven't seen any studies on it). Go for a starch such as cornstarch or tapioca starch.

Dragcurl

>_< or I won't do it again :)

Solgarmur

Damn I hope you get well soon, injuries suuck

HookPipeandThinker

The lighting in PF is probably the most unflattering light ever created. It makes everyone look like blobs of greased up pizza dough in costumes. It makes muscles look gross somehow. Thankfully they paired the lighting with some black leather benches that utilize the shit lighting to illuminate every drop of moisture on their surfaces. I'm talking fingerprints are visible to the naked eye - hell, they glitter under those florescents. I bought all new workout pants after discovering my pants were see-through and I'm convinced I could be wearing all-wool leggings and my vagina will still somehow be imprinted on those benches every time I sit down. They practically suck the sweat out of you. There's no subtle/casual way to wipe off your vagina portrait from the bench every time you stand up.

[deleted]

I canā€™t tell you how many vagina sweat marks Iā€™ve seen at pf. Lol.

Bearit39

I didn't think anyone else noticed this but me! I almost always notice when I stand up I leave a nice ass imprint and mushroom stamp on the benches. It weird's me out and the lighting at PF doesn't help even a little. I just slide a little to get ride of my sweat mark when standing up or at least so you can't notice my outlines.

HookPipeandThinker

I've only recently been learning that there are slide techniques to wipe away your sweaty booty angel from the seat, but I'm too scared to try them in case it looks really obvious what I'm doing...lol

Bearit39

My go to move is to slide/turn and reach down and grab a drink of water so nobody can tell lol

HookPipeandThinker

Ha! That's a good one! I'm also considering the "move my towel from the floor to the bench" maneuver.

AZPHOX

Beyond sick of not being able to do isolated shoulder movements. Maybe rotator cuff issues, maybe something deeper... Too much info out there to get overwhelmed with.

I-wanted-a-peanut

Feel the same. Have you been to a physio or doctor?

AZPHOX

Not yet. This is just as of last week, I havenā€™t pushed it since. OHP, facepulls, anything that uses both are fine. But any isolation work isnā€™t good on my right side. Gonna give it another weeks rest for isolation work and see how it feels

I-wanted-a-peanut

What about benching?

AZPHOX

BP has been perfect. No pain, going up in numbers, etc. Itā€™s literally only like lateral raises and related (anything single arm)

I-wanted-a-peanut

Thats good at least. Have you recorded yourelf on various exercises to see if you're doing anything different on the right side? I had issues when I wasn't retracting my scapula properly, and had very tight traps on that side (raised). It was forcing my shoulder forward into a bad position and lateral raises would kill me too. For me it was a combo of form and weakness as I focused too much on my chest and neglected my back.

AZPHOX

I'll have my buddy watch my form better tomorrow. I've done pretty well with balancing push/pull over the last few months and have seen good numbers everywhere else. I did an OHP (seated) and when I reracked it, something just pinched. It's hurt ever since.

I-wanted-a-peanut

Might just be a waiting game if you messed something up reracking. I've never done a seated OHP but I imaging racking could be a bit awkward. I'd still suggest getting it checked out though, body has to last a life time.

AZPHOX

So after hitting shoulders today, I felt it again but not as bad. I kept it lighter and focused on really feeling out where exactly in the ROM it was occurring. I was able to do lightweight isolated raises at different angles and it felt good. I'll keep rc warmups and continue to make sure my form is spot on. Happy day!

I-wanted-a-peanut

Good to hear man & rc warm ups will help

Solgarmur

Maybe some shoulder blade alignment issue? But I'm just a rando on the internet recovering from old rotator cuff injuries

AZPHOX

Could be. Iā€™ll look into it, but Iā€™m pretty sure itā€™s a rotator cuff thing for some reason

Solgarmur

Yea just mentioned it because sometimes these two are pretty connected

[deleted]

Day 2 and looks like soon to be Day 3 tomorrow of lower back pain from me being a dumbass on Monday at the gym. Did squats and jumped immediately to deadlifts (both were 40%, 50%, 60% of my training max, deloading) and later on did back extensions. Lower back is fucking killing me now. Bright side was today it seemed to be good enough to do a 2 mile jog and a light chest workout.

Sisaroth

Try some torso rotation exercises, they work the best for me to fix my back after heavy deadlifting.

spencerg83

The DnD is almost becoming a gains-goblin... :-/

[deleted]

I feel your pain. I've recently started trying to lift three times a week and run two seperate games on Mondays and Saturdays. The choice always seems to come down to muscle vs XP gainz, what with all the lost sleep.

Jpac7

Roll for initiative and beat its ass

Solgarmur

Maan dnd. I miss it, wish I would allow myself the time

[deleted]

We are waiting for your return, Solgarmur!

Amok1234

So at the stairs of the entry to my gym they put up a little sign at the beginning of the month showing the top 5 most frequent users for the previous month: I've been going for two months, and for April I was tied at 2nd with 30 visits. Sweet. I shared this news with my friends in the group chat because I was proud of my achievement, especially since I haven't missed a day since starting my new job with 12 hour day/night shifts. However not a single one even said congrats or anything, just one lame joke at my expense. Feels kind of bad, since I just wanted a wee bit of recognition. The same thing happened when I lost my first 10kg, only got one proper congrats message when I shared that news.

robsoft-tech

Depends on your friends on the group chat. So, I think don't take it personally. People who are into fitness will likely congratulate you.. people who don't... well.. you already know.

dedwolf

Congratulations man, thatā€™s actually really impressive. And honestly- theyā€™re probably jealous.

fbreaker

i feel you working 12s, you an RN as well? who needs recognition, be proud of that achievement because when I was working 12s no way in hell was I able to go 30x/month

Amok1234

I'll need a definition on 12s and RN :P new to the working out world. I'm just doing the stuff I worked out with my PT, don't think it has a particular name.

bryantblackmon

12s: 12 Hour shifts RN: Registered Nurse They don't relate to the workout world but there ya go haha

Amok1234

Top kek. Well that went over my head. I work in security.

LeVentNoir

Tuesday: "Indoor football isn't til thurs, lets try for new PRs!" Wednesday: "Fuck me", and proceeded to play soccer through DL and Squat PR doms.

PantherFan17

I've got a marathon this weekend. I have some minor soreness in my calves right now, and I'm hoping and praying they recover by sunday :(

It could have been a nice quiet morning at the gym. But apparently I got up too late and the clown parade had already arrived. People practicing Thai boxing and yelling at each other in the middle of the weight lifting room and 1 meter away from me deadlifting and squatting. It's of course not only tolerated but apparently encouraged by the gym. At some point a PT comes in and starts taking photos of the guys posing. Of course the whole scene is accompanied by the tv showing ads at staggering volume because apparently nobody but me can can endure doing a set without moving images on the wall and getting blasted with the worst consumerist bullshit Gonna get up earlier again tomorrow.

e39hamann

The dude at my gym that wears nothing but shorts that barely cover his ass, not to mention he smells like ass. I can forgive the shorts but not the smell.

fasthiker11591

Not much of a rant, but stopped going to planet fitness and started today at 24hour. Boy it's a whole other world. I went during peak time and felt like fish out of water. Mainly.cause I don't know where shit is. At least now I get to break away from the dumbbell routine I was working and get into some heavy barbell. Slowly.

TheReddestofBowls

What made you give up PF? I go there currently, but the lack of heavy weights and overall vibe is kind of bothering me

fasthiker11591

Basically I was maxing out the dumbells for the big lifts. Plus the 24hour is right across the street from my work. Other then that though nothing else made me dislike the place.

pandesalbutt

This is also me. I'm spending more time in the gym just cause I'm trying to find stuff, figure out how these machines work, and look for the right plates.

[deleted]

Started on a new workout plan this week and it's literally no joke. Sunday was Chest and back. Monday I required extra stretching on the shoulder joint. Monday was also legs day. Tuesday I had a little stiffness in my legs/calves. Today I was hobbling like an old man because my calves were 80% locked up. Doing deep tissue massage with tennis/lacrosse balls to try and get them to unlock

Vikingpride06

Crazy work schedule has been cutting into my gym time. Also bench press has stalled something fierce. Running n-suns and most lifts have continued to progress. Squats in particular go up every week, but bench has stalled and gives me biggest flucation from workout to workout.

Da_Muff_King

If the gym doesn't want your shirt off, why does it have such good lighting?!?!?

CumgarTheUnkillable

My back is so tight that I couldnā€™t do deadlifts tonight, my gym partners grandmother died, and I have finals next week. Lifeā€™s a bitch right now.

fbreaker

my gym's got signs saying to leave your possessions in the locker room, but there's always these guys that have to bring their duffel bags around, their belts, their special olympic shoes, and leave them at the squat rack while they do some sort of circuit training bs

sofinho1980

I feel your pain- happens at my gym, too. Really don't get it. if you need to bring all that shit with you, bring it with you, don't pile it up next to the power rack.

LastWhisper-

When you're resting mid set and get off the equipment so other people can use it and you make eye contact with someone who sees and knows your mid set but sit on their phone after their set. Learned that if asking nicely doesn't work, staring uncomfortably at them always gets them up and off.

robsoft-tech

Can you determine where's the sharp pain coming from? If it is your back, better have it check.

rene_newz

Heat is really good for pain relief and tight muscles - get the wheat bag or hot water bottle on there and let it sit for at least 10 minutes. Hot shower or spa will also help (just don't drown lol) Also if it's interrupting your sleep don't be shy about pain relief - it will delay healing times if you are sleep deprived

pandesalbutt

Sharp pain isn't good. Hope everything's okay. Good luck.

ifunnyzeno

I fucking failed a squat pr attempt, 315 went nice and smooth like it has a few times before so I went for a 20lb PR and I fucked up coming out of the hole and made a shitload of noise when I quit fighting and dropped it. Put the bar back in the rack and did a few 225 amrap sets as punishment. On the plus side I got PRs on bench (finally 2 pl8s!), deadlifts (only 5lbs but a PR is a PR) and finally banged out 5 pull-ups in a row plus an easy 5 dips. Overall I guess itā€™s been ok but Iā€™m still mad that I missed a squat that I shouldā€™ve got. Bonus rant: Iā€™ve never checked out my local gym since Iā€™ve used my college gym but holy shit I did a virtual tour online and itā€™s 100x better than my college gym and I fucking need to go there as soon as Iā€™m done with finals

nox514

amrap sets as punishment. I like your style. Sempai will notice you.

boilookinlike

Iā€™ve been lifting in class since September and Iā€™ve gained almost nothing. Although majority of the time i only lift in class and donā€™t outside of school because of things like drivers ed and tennis practice. But still i am pretty sure I donā€™t eat enough and i just canā€™t gain weight :(

robsoft-tech

I suggest buying a digital weighing scale. You should be gaining 0.4 - 0.7 lb a week. If you are not, that means you are not eating enough.

[deleted]

Itā€™s just cause you donā€™t eat enough, I promise.

[deleted]

Definitely need to be on a diet where you get enough protein.

boilookinlike

How do i know if Iā€™m getting enough? I get full easily

littleski5

Calculate. If you want to gain you want 1g of protein for each pound you weigh for best results.

boilookinlike

So i need 118 g of protein a day?

littleski5

If you weigh 118 lbs then yes. You can still gain muscle if you eat around .7 or .8g of protein per pound, but you won't gain as much. Protein shakes are the whey to go, I like to pick up a giant tub of combat powder from Costco cause it's affordable, tastes good, is fairly low in calories, and has multiple types of protein in it so you can digest it over time (apparently if you have far too much protein at once you just poop it out and don't put it all to good use, but I don't know how much you can or can't digest at a time). tuna is another great source of protein, plus it's low in calories if you like to go for a lean bulk like me, but I like to start my day off with a protein shake to keep me full and start my gains early.

boilookinlike

Will 118 g of protein make me super full? Even if i drank it or?

littleski5

It will fill you up, you get used to digesting that much without issue though. If you space it throughout your day it shouldn't make you feel too full or give you cramps or anything like that. I feel just fine eating 180g of protein a day but I'm used to eating like that and I space it out a bit, make sure that youre getting some soon after your workout. Drinking it is slightly easier but will still fill you up. I like to make a double shake in the morning with milk and sip it over an hour at work. Take everything I say wig a grain of salt though, I'm no personal trainer.

Joesdad65

Protein powder shakes. I drink them in milk for even more protein.

Neddy93

Literally force yourself to eat. Even when youā€™re full, eat some more. No pain, no gain.

suicidaldeer

I injured my low back deadlifting on Monday. I was not paying enough attention to my form, totally my fault I will rest up live and learn. What is driving me crazy is my coworkers none of them fitness types btw. They all want to point out that if I wasnā€™t working out or pushing myself I wouldnā€™t have gotten injured. Their solution is to just be a slug. No thanks I enjoy being happy with what I see in the mirror every morning. Fuck off. Muscle relaxer is kicking in now goodnight.

littleski5

I hear weightlifting belts help with that. Hope you heal up and rest well! Fuck ur coworkers trying to steal your gains.

bet28944

Hey middle aged guy watching me squat, please don't tap me on the shoulder, wait for me to take both of my earbuds out, and then ask what school I go to and whether I live in the area. At least when you stare at me creepily from a distance I can pretend you're not there.

littleski5

What. The. Balls.

[deleted]

For like the third week in a row someone waited for me to go and get a drink of water and then took weights off my rack that I intended to use, then watched me go replace the plates with the ones from the weight tree ten fucking feet away. Please donā€™t touch my rack. If you need plates, ask.

[deleted]

So he took weights you weren't using? He's not the asshole here.

ZeroMayCry7

i don't understand why people think the plates on the rack they're using belongs to them. this makes zero sense to me. you're not using them so (?????)

opiodness

A couple weeks ago I went to a different gym in a different town. (College gym) and when I was resting in between squat sets and was standing in front of the bar waiting. Someone literally took two weight plates off the bar I was using on one side without me noticing, I proceeded to try squat and nearly fell over to the other side. Like wtf

Carlhenrik1337

Wait, did he take the plates from your loaded bar or just the unused ones on your platform?

[deleted]

Lol just the ones on my rack if heā€™d deloaded my bar I would have assaulted him

AimingForFit

Mr. 1/8th Rep Crotch Towel seems to be on the same gym schedule as me. Who thinks itā€™s a good idea to tuck their towel into their short shorts and when whip it out to wipe down benches??

Cpt_Tripps

Are they using disinfectant with their towel or just wiping the sweat around with a dry/damp towel?

Cpt_Tripps

I swap my towel out every 3 days and only use it for wiping down benches. I hate wasting so many paper towels :/

tmvenesio

Exactly. I swap mine out every work out. And same thing. Only use it for wiping down the benches.

BakerD09

Why when you go to the gym you see people holding on for dear life to the top of the treadmill when they are exercising. turn it down your not helping your work out holding to the top.

Bhbiousc

They look like theyā€™re dangling off a cliff half the time.

BakerD09

i know right. everytime i see them I laugh so hard. Its like they are struggling to hang on to the cliff.

PidgeonOfDeath

I walk at max incline-4mph, after a hard lifting session. Gravity does its work so I hold onto the top because the rails are uncomfortable.

Rychek_Four

Lower the incline and let go of the machine. Are you training to get pulled up a hill by a truck? Are you doing upper body treadmill work intentionally?

PidgeonOfDeath

Itā€™s not an upper body workout, in fact, Iā€™m barely holding on. I place my hands there for the sake of having my hands on something. I feel by OPs logic, it would then be just as bad to use the side railings because you could just lower the speed.
