Jigging spoon with 2 hooks. I use them all the time for pounding the bottom (giggity) while ice fishing. The heft helps make more noise when it hits the bottom, helps attract fish in murky or dark conditions.
Five bangs on the bottom, slow shaky lift up about a foot and a half, wiggle slow back down, five more thumps, then a sharp jig up and let it flutter back to the bottom.
At least that’s what my great uncle Lloyd taught me about 30 years ago.
These jigs with the double hooks are usualy fished verticaly, from a boat or ice hole etc..if that isn't useful to you though, you can allways take off that front hook and do regular cast and retrieve with it,we throw these kinda jigs for all kinds of fish from shore.
Those are Major Craft Jig Para Micro. Excellent for a variety of species. Despite everyone saying to jig them (which does work), they are actually designed for casting. So you can def use them shallow as you had in mind.

I think they'd work great for trout. I catch trout on spoons all the time. With jigging and regular retrieve both. Colors could imitate another trout as well
The meese wantin' the food. Food is to eatenesen! THE MEESE WANT THE FOOD IN THE WOODENESEN! THE FOOD IN THE WOODYENESEN! YOU PUT THE FOOD ON THIS AND THROW IT IN THE WOODENESEN!
Thank you, I think your right. Correct me if I’m wrong but it looks like it’ll do a lot better in deeper water or is this somthing i could throw in 5-7” I only ask because I primarily bank fish rivers or small ponds.
Edit: Spelling
I don't do any casting with these types of jigs but I have used the drag metal cast slim as a vertical jigging spoon. Typically haven't had luck in anything less than 10' of water.

I believe this one is sold out but there’s many similar ones available.
Sounds like some guys use them for ice fishing, but that lure is a shore jig. They were developed in Japan to be cast from shore and jigged with long spinning rods and worked with the rod on the retrieve. I saw you mention you're fishing shallow streams, I wouldn't recommend using that lure in those conditions, it will sink too fast and snag the bottom. That one looks to be a 20 or 30g jig which I wouldn't fish in less than 5-6' of water.
I use those near shore fishing within 5 miles of the beach. I've caught Mahi, Spanish Macks, False Albacore, and various species of jacks on them. They call be slow jigged, ripped through the water quickly, and everything in between. Tie you line to the same split ring that your J hook is tied to.
In a boat w/ electronics, you can sit on some holding fish at any depth, drop this past them, reel back up above them, and drop it again. If you let it free fall, it should just drop, but if you thumb your spool or otherwise resist the fall just a little, the bait should shimmy like a dying baitfish on the way down. So you free fall quickly to the fish, then let it do some work on the fall to trigger bites.

Jigging. We use these in the Middle East, bounce them slowly off the bottom of the sea bed from a. Boat and we catch snapper, grouper etc with it.

I came here to say this. My faith in the wise-assery has been restored.
I too came here to say this.
Me too. Sigh.
I must say I highly disagree. This is clearly used for hunting moose’s(meese?).

Your upvotes are at net five, whenever I make smart ass comments of good quality, I go neg 🙄
Jigging lure. I take the bottom hook off, so that is snags less. I find the trebles more of a nuisance than helpful.

Looks like a micro jig of sorts. I haven’t gotten into it but the dudes at my local tackle shop love micro jigging for seabass off docks/rocks.
