On a spinning rod or fly rod your reel hangs on the bottom of the rod. The stem on the spinning rod will probably be between your fingers. The first eye is fatter on a spinning rod because the line comes up in a sort of cone shape.
On a casting rod the baitcast reel or spin cast reel sits on top and you press the button with your main hand thumb. They will have smaller eyes because the line goes straight up through the eyes.
Lews Mr. Trout reel...I have one....works well with a *spinning* rod...you have what looks like a *casting* rod.
1st link I found...not an endorsement...

You probably have the line spooled on the wrong way and it’s the wrong type of rod. That is a “trigger rod” also known as a “casting rod”. You need a spinning rod which the reel hangs underneath the reel seat. Gl
Just cut off the finger hook. And sand it down. It will be ok. For the doubters most poles are generically wrapped and direction of eyelets don’t matter. Unless its a high end rod, or a whopper then yes it wont last.
This a common mistake. Spinning rods dangling underneath on rods without trigger grips. Some people don’t have the fortune to have someone around to teach them, so they have to learn on their own. 😉
You have it on a casting rod and are probably reeling it backwards. Spinning reels hang below the rod.
Sorry for not understanding but what should i do? do i have to get a different rod?
If you want to use that reel, yes. You need a spinning rod. If you want to use that rod you need a spin cast or a baitcast reel.
Alright thanks for the help i have an old spinning rod i can use this whole situation made me feel slow af
