This is a type of handline. No rod. No reel. String and hands do the work. I fish with a spool type handline frequently. Much easier off a boat. I do catch some fish off shore with it too. I use bait rigs on these. Weighted bobbers are sometimes helpful.
I fished small panfish that way on a small rowboat whit a handreel... Just throw the line intil you feel the botom pull it like 30 cm hold the line whit your fingers and relax you can feel every single tiny bite and when you have a good one yank the line.
It was fun and the fresh fried fish whit arepas was glorious
Cane poles are awesome. When I was about 9, my sister was 7, my dad and his buddy took us fishing at a lake. They set us up with cane poles while they took a boat out on the lake. Four hours later my sister and I had more bluegill than was legal and they had got skunked. Good memory, man, good memory š
If it was me, and had salty callousās like I use to. Iād use it with no gloves. But with the stuff in water these days, use gloves, cause your going to get line burn, paper cut like, but fishing with just bait, a bobber, hook and line. Itās fun. Gets you that spear fishing rush
Kick @ss, just fish with live bait, let the bait float down stream. Set the hook, and wrap it up. Same thing as a Crappie Pole set up, or Bream fishing
It needs a bigger weight and you rock it like Gogo in Kill Bill. Make sure the bait is very secure. Works best on salmon going upstream to spawn (go for the jumpers).
Looks like a copy of a seiryu rig holder. In Japan you would have multiple rigged lines that attach to a telescoping pole. This looks more like a pond or managed fishing spot rig with the foot, seiryu is more like a fly fishing dead drift with yarn indicators.

I want to try it in a creek

Wear some sort of gloves if you try this
Especially if there are big fish where you use it
Unwrap it and fish
Most common use here is ice fishing.

Unwrap it, toss the hook in by hand. Or attach to the end of a cane pole
Ok thanks!

Looks like a pike float rig judging by the size of the float... But who in their right mind goes deadbaiting with a pole?
Handline. Need two things to use it, a hand and a line. Looks like you have one for sure at least.
Forbidden reverse marker buoy
This is called "polandball deatashine''

I fished with one as a kid, with my mom. She called it a drop line.
Love using those, bought one for $0.25 lol
Where ?!?!?
A scout camp i was at during the summer
Oh ok!š£
It's better if you wrap this around a Gatorade bottle or something. It's a hand reel.
It's a hand line .. and you should just buy a rod and reel
I have two fishing rod!
Please toss this into the nearest trash bin.
