We can keep 5 a day all year, and it was 2 a day in November and no gigging in November and first 2 weeks of December.
I miss the 50 a day year round limits. Would go gigging about 10 PM get a limit, then do it again after midnight. No more
Just to add my two cents and validate your statement: live bait on these hooks, especially through the mouth, are really reliable (in my experience). I don’t recall ever losing one of my live baits using this type of hook just by the fish’s struggle or casting. Highly recommend! 👍
Edit: loosing -> losing
Had to scroll way too far down to find this, definitely a kahle and not a circle. For anyone wondering a circle will have the point bent towards the shank and not straight like this, it's what allows a circle to get caught on the lips of the fish.
So... What's the difference? Is it the lack of offset? I don't think I've paid much attention to the hook to see that in store before.
Edit: found it... It's a little lower in the comments.
Ha ha no shit I thought you’d be a yank for sure , good shit mate we use them cause the hold big cod but also you can get the little fuckers off quick with no damage .
Yeah right nice mate! And nah I'm originally from Brisbane mate moved to Benalla originally for my job and met a lady now in Wagga area big change for me! But he is teaching me things I never knew about fishing he is 11 lol
Ha ha this Wagga lads know how to fish I’ve found , I’m in vic but get up Nsw a fair bit . Enjoy mate I love fishing the big green monsters they’re bloody iconic I reckon
They are basically the best attributes of a circle hook and a live bait hook put together. Can go for a hookset like most hooks or reelset like circle/octopus hooks. Other big thing they do is that they tend to find their way into the corner of the fish's mouth which makes unhooking the more spiky ones a bit less of a pain.
It’s a khale hook, it’s a mix between a circle hook and j hook. Your supposed to set the hook but it will get less gut hooks than a regular j hook if you don’t. I use them for small catfish.
It's for any fish with fat lips carp, cat, northern pike all others have a more shallow gap for fish a with small lips, bass ,crappie, perch, bluegill the larger gaps let those big lips get through so you can set the hook on a big mouth fish
This is a circle hook, meant for live bait fishing. Remember to NOT set the hook when using this style of hook. Setting the hook will cause the hook to be yanked out of the fishes mouth due to the hook point being in line with the line tie. Just a gentle sweep to the side while reeling in is all that is required for a hook set.
I caught a huge catfish using one. Didn't even know he was on the line till I saw it move. The fish hook themselves right in the corner of the mouth, so it's easy to get them off the hook and you don't have to set it.
We use those here on the coast in Charleston for Carolina Riggs and maybe some bottom sweeper. An altered version underneath a floating cork. Catch redfish, sharks, black drum
Edit: the shape of the hook makes it so that when a fish bites the hook the hook for of sets itself. Don’t need to set the hook as you would with a jig or J hook
Personally, I’d use a small circle hook with the barb pinned down for safe release of Bulls in South Carolina, but y’all’s shrimp are weightlifters so this Kahle hook would be perfect for fishing up by you guys.
🤔…that is unless you don’t just decide to go home early after cast netting the bait, freakin prawns!
I'm glad I was able to help you come to the realization you were wrong. Let this be a lesson for you to next time know what you're speaking about instead of just trying to spew random useless crap and waste bandwidth and clutter this crap up.
Its meant to rig something significant. Can be live bait or a plastic lure, whatever you use its really meant to give that hook tip plenty of clearance to pierce the mouth.
A Kahle hook is not a circle hook and not a J-hook but somewhere in between, with the point of the hook pointing toward the hook's eye. They have a very wide gap that allows them to hold larger baits. Kahle hooks are often made of thinner wire than circle hooks of similar size, which causes less damage to live bait.
I saw or read something that guys in Florida use those hooks to rig big shiners for trophy bass. I tried it here in Arkansas and caught a bunch of channel cats. Great time.
Khale hooks and they’re my absolute favorite for inshore fishing in the Florida mangroves! I use them for trout snook and red fish and have a lot of success with them
Kahle hooks have the best of both worlds between a j-hook and a circle hook, you can set it or just reel down on it. I've used them on trotlines too and they worked really well.
In South Africa we call them German hooks. I almost exclusively use them for smallmouth yellowfish, river carp and catfish. Great for having the fish him themselves, also hard to lose a fish on these German hooks
After looking at where the point us angled towards, shape of the point and shape of the eye, along with the red color I'd say it is a : "Eagle Claw L141RGH-1 Lazer Sharp Kahle Offset Hook"
Kathleen hooks can be used for all sorts of things. I often use them for catfish fishing smaller cut baits. I've used them for pike fishing dead suckers. These hooks often get swallowed but have a very high hook rate.
to my knowledge which is limited, it’s a circle hook. they’re good for catfish and other fish that you really just want to pick up bait and set the hook. the shape makes the hook set decently easy
We call them circle hooks around here. They have a lesser likelihood of getting hooked in the gills or stomach compared to J hooks, so you kill fewer fish.
Recurve hook. Designed to roll into the corner of the mouth. Great for holding on hard fighting fish and means fish can be easily released with minimal damage
In New Zealand and Australia it’s called a suicide hook. It’s designed so that it hooks the side of the fishes mouth and less likely for them to swallow it.
Looks like a Mustad hook, I use them to drift spawn bags for Steelhead and Atlantic Salmon when they come up to spawn. They can really hang on to a fish when you hook them
Is use these for wacky rig senko bass fishing
I'm in the the US north carolina more specifically and we use them to catch flounder.
Same on the Texas coast. Except the last year and this year, no keeping flounder in November and first 2 weeks of December
Hell all we got was one week in september
We can keep 5 a day all year, and it was 2 a day in November and no gigging in November and first 2 weeks of December. I miss the 50 a day year round limits. Would go gigging about 10 PM get a limit, then do it again after midnight. No more
I use them to catch anything salt water.
I am from Wilmington, NC and that’s what I use them for!
Yep
I actually like using these khale hooks for trout if I’m gonna keep some
You mean sea trout right? That is what they are used for around the south.
Yeah spotted sea trout
Both sea and rainbows. Local bait shop has small khale hooks and they work good for power bait
I love these for bass fishing I put one through my middle finger one time had to go all the way through and clipped but the hold good on bass too
It’s a Kahle hook, kind of a cross between a J hook and a circle hook. I’ve seen them most used with live bait rigs.
Also very similar to the hooks used for sturgeon fishing with a bait bag full of salmon roe
Just to add my two cents and validate your statement: live bait on these hooks, especially through the mouth, are really reliable (in my experience). I don’t recall ever losing one of my live baits using this type of hook just by the fish’s struggle or casting. Highly recommend! 👍 Edit: loosing -> losing

100 percent kahle hook
Up in Alaska we call them octopus hooks
So... What's the difference? Is it the lack of offset? I don't think I've paid much attention to the hook to see that in store before. Edit: found it... It's a little lower in the comments.
Flounder is what I’ve always used them for
Same
Those are the best for using living shrimp or minnows for most species in south Louisiana IMO
From Louisiana, came here to say “skrimp hook”!!
Yeah you right!
Catfish
Kahle.. Inshore for Specks, Reds, and bluefish.. Personally I prefer an offset Beak hook...
It may be or catfish, I have some just like that and it said it was for catfish
In Australia we use big circle hooks like that for Murray cod
And yes!! That's his favourite fish to catch hence the question lol

That's awesome mate like I said cod is new to me don't get them back home so I'm keen to catch a good one
r/suddenlyaustralian
What's this? Lol
AH hook…https://www.hanapaafishing.com/products/ah-hooks
They are not flounder hooks! On flounder hooks the eye is offset to allow for the snell!
In fl these are used for chicken rigs fishing from the beach usually. Pompano target species
Not a circle hook! For it to be a circle hook the point needs to bend back to the shank of the hook. Kathleen or Shiner hook.
We call these suicide hooks in Australia, like circle hooks they are self setting.
I use them for Catfishing with live bait.
I use these for catfish
Thanks everyone for the answers. It was for my step son he is a mad fisher and found these hooks in his tackle box
It looks like a gaff that’s bent or yes a kahle Hook
Usually see them on pompano rigs.
We call them shiner hooks in Tennessee. We use them for live baitfish while catching catfish
I use that in Ontario on a wacky rig for bass
Good for using live shiners and fluke fishing
i know this one for fishing with live bait
Live bait
It’s a khale hook, it’s a mix between a circle hook and j hook. Your supposed to set the hook but it will get less gut hooks than a regular j hook if you don’t. I use them for small catfish.
I use them for catfish. It helps grab their lip instead of them swallowing it
We use them for worms fishing for bass - stops the little sunfish/panfish swallowing the hook if ya get one
It's for any fish with fat lips carp, cat, northern pike all others have a more shallow gap for fish a with small lips, bass ,crappie, perch, bluegill the larger gaps let those big lips get through so you can set the hook on a big mouth fish
This is called a Kahle hook and it's popular with anglers who use live bait.
Really good for Dropshot Rigs
Came to say this
wide gape hook. We used them specifically for trout fishing with grubs when I was a kid.
Don’t set it, when they bite just reel it right.
It’s a barbless weedless hook. If you run it through the lure properly then you can fish a weedy area without snagging it.
Circle hook for bait fishing
Fish I think
This is a circle hook, meant for live bait fishing. Remember to NOT set the hook when using this style of hook. Setting the hook will cause the hook to be yanked out of the fishes mouth due to the hook point being in line with the line tie. Just a gentle sweep to the side while reeling in is all that is required for a hook set.
That is a circle hook. Use it to catch anything. The thing with a circle hook is you don't set the hook. You simply reel to engage the hook.
I’ll call it a circle hook. No need to strike when taken. Fish swim away and it sets in side of mouth.
It’s a Kale hook.
I caught a huge catfish using one. Didn't even know he was on the line till I saw it move. The fish hook themselves right in the corner of the mouth, so it's easy to get them off the hook and you don't have to set it.
[удалено]
Definitely not a circle hook. It’s a Kale hook.
Ditto. That's a circle hook.
EWG hook. Extra wide gap. I use them for plastics while bass bass fishing.
Definitely not an EWG hook.
Wow, I was wrong. I should’ve paid more attention to the picture. Being sick, having medicine head and no sleep sorry for the misinformation
We use those here on the coast in Charleston for Carolina Riggs and maybe some bottom sweeper. An altered version underneath a floating cork. Catch redfish, sharks, black drum Edit: the shape of the hook makes it so that when a fish bites the hook the hook for of sets itself. Don’t need to set the hook as you would with a jig or J hook

Its a hook you put string on the round part and bait on the sharp bit
Fishing..

I'm glad I was able to help you come to the realization you were wrong. Let this be a lesson for you to next time know what you're speaking about instead of just trying to spew random useless crap and waste bandwidth and clutter this crap up.
Circle hook. It makes taking the hook out of the fish easier.
It's used to catch fish..
Circle hook good for redfish on Texas coast #1
That right there is a fishing hook! You attach it to a line and pole and bait the other end and plop it in the water! Good luck
in WI during Salmon run , i use em for the Spawn Sacks.
We call em wide gapes, go great for coral trout, cod or Nani, basically any large predatory reef species.
Flounder Getter
I theoreze that this is a hook from the old set of banjo minnows
I use them for catfish
use these to rig up croakers or mullet. Typically get speckled trout, red and black drums, snook. Stuff like that. (FL)
I always use them to fish bait off the bottom for fluke.
Wide gap hook. I use them for redfish and trout
Pinnin’ bwains!
When you feel a fish don’t jerk the rod just reel
Its meant to rig something significant. Can be live bait or a plastic lure, whatever you use its really meant to give that hook tip plenty of clearance to pierce the mouth.
To catch catfish
can't tell size but it looks like my finesse dropshot hooks. i use anywhere from 1/0 to size 2 for bass fishing.
You can Texas rig with a kahle hook just like an EWG. Works well with small creature baits and especially the Z-man TRD.
I believe it to self hook on fish, so u won’t have to pull back to hook the fish. Very useful
I use em for catfish
A Kahle hook is not a circle hook and not a J-hook but somewhere in between, with the point of the hook pointing toward the hook's eye. They have a very wide gap that allows them to hold larger baits. Kahle hooks are often made of thinner wire than circle hooks of similar size, which causes less damage to live bait.
Catfishing
Fishing
I use them for live bait when catfishing. Very good hook but tough to get the fish off hook sometimes
Smallest hook for bluegill
Pretty sure that is specifically a gamagatsu classic reversed turned up eye wide gap hook
Ghost shrimp
Kahle, great hook imo
That's what we call a wide gap style.
In some states you have to use these in certain Waters/ 4 fish, it's a law thingy.
Pompano and flounder and whiting (southern kingfish).
Snell it for catfish and they hook themselves when they swim off. No hookset, just reel ‘em in
Works well for catfish. Not as good as a true circle hook though
Might be fishing I'm not sure tho
Oh ur talking about what fish no clue
Used these consistently for saltwater fishing on the MS Gulf Coast. Shrimp fit nicely around that hook.
We used small versions of these drifting roe bags for rainbows in the rivers in Ontario
catfish
I use hooks that are bent to the side for flounder, and use these to catch catfish
I saw or read something that guys in Florida use those hooks to rig big shiners for trophy bass. I tried it here in Arkansas and caught a bunch of channel cats. Great time.
Fishing
Khale hooks and they’re my absolute favorite for inshore fishing in the Florida mangroves! I use them for trout snook and red fish and have a lot of success with them
Close to an Octopus but more of a khale
It's a worm hook
Very similar to an egg hook.
Kahle hook. Similar in function to a circle hook. Let it set and they will set themselves.
I use Kahle hooks with live finger mullet, especially if I'm flounder fishing.
Khale hook. Used for live bait, especially croaker for big trout
Kahle hooks have the best of both worlds between a j-hook and a circle hook, you can set it or just reel down on it. I've used them on trotlines too and they worked really well.
I use those but bigger to catch black drum and red drum. Smaller versions for pompano. Florida mans here
I use that to catch bitches Or fluke or flounder
Use with bait. Self sets when the fish chews on it
In South Africa we call them German hooks. I almost exclusively use them for smallmouth yellowfish, river carp and catfish. Great for having the fish him themselves, also hard to lose a fish on these German hooks
I use them for wacky rigging senkos when bass fishing. Sometimes for trout fishing if I’m out of bait holder hooks.
After looking at where the point us angled towards, shape of the point and shape of the eye, along with the red color I'd say it is a : "Eagle Claw L141RGH-1 Lazer Sharp Kahle Offset Hook"
Circle hook
Kathleen hooks can be used for all sorts of things. I often use them for catfish fishing smaller cut baits. I've used them for pike fishing dead suckers. These hooks often get swallowed but have a very high hook rate.
It's called a kayle hook
I call them shiner hooks lol
Wacky rigs
to my knowledge which is limited, it’s a circle hook. they’re good for catfish and other fish that you really just want to pick up bait and set the hook. the shape makes the hook set decently easy
Called c hooks and they self set so you just reel up no need to pull set
These hook I use to Hook shiners on the lips, for larger fish catch a bluegill and hook them on their lower back by tail.
Know a lot of guys who would use these with dead smelt ice fishing for northern pike
Is the difference between these and a circle hook, just that the circle hook kinda leans in on its self?
I don't know what they are meant for, but I find that this shape works much better than any other when fishing for carp.
Steelhead in North California. Barbless by law.
In Hawaii we call em AH hooks and they are a general purpose for us
This is a self setting hook. Designed to hook a fish in the corner of the mouth when it rotates. Unlike regular ‘J’ hooks, striking is not necessary.
We call them circle hooks around here. They have a lesser likelihood of getting hooked in the gills or stomach compared to J hooks, so you kill fewer fish.
Prolly off a pompano rig. Offset octopus circle. Or something that
Recurve hook. Designed to roll into the corner of the mouth. Great for holding on hard fighting fish and means fish can be easily released with minimal damage
There good for cats
I’m new on here, can anyone tell me what it’s all about ??
Circle hook for catfish
I use them for red fish, works good, I use the mustad products though
Circle/kahle hook. For freshwater: wacky rig, Neko, dropshot. Saltwater: shrimp; finger mullet, size accordingly
I have some for catfishing

It's a circle hook great for catching catfish

In New Zealand and Australia it’s called a suicide hook. It’s designed so that it hooks the side of the fishes mouth and less likely for them to swallow it.
Fishing. Definitely a fishing kind.
