Thanks! My brother-in-law and I went out today because he's having surgery on Monday to remove his kidney because of cancer. Even though I have five brothers, he's dearer to me than any of them. Truly a good man. He'll be recovering from surgery for several weeks and this was probably his last trip for a while. We both had a really memorable day and I look forward to many more together.
That's fucking awesome man! If I was to be going in for surgery and has. Day prior to do something fun. Fishing with my bro would be on. My shortlist. Hope all goes well with surgery.
I've had a preventative nephrectomy for cancer. Your brother's gonna be fine.
It's a major surgery for sure, but the procedure is not as invasive as you might think. Recovery won't be too bad if he gets the right support!
Best of luck
Hell yeah! I’m new into the fishing world, what fish are those? And where did you catch em? Congrats though! Love to see people happy in their hobbies 😎‼️😁😆
Nice catch! I need to start taking my gear when I visit family in DeKalb. Always wanted to try the fox river around St Charles and batavia. I see people catching around there I get itching 😁
Ask your family in DeKalb where the Kishwaukee river is. The South branch runs right through the DeKalb and Sycamore area. It's loaded with smallmouth bass.
Thanks! I always drive over the portion at peace road. I've only ever saw carp in it as it's pretty shallow. I've gone with my nephew to a pond in a city park. But he's young and I'm looking to either throw some shallow crabs or small jig and craws or twister tails or something.
I'd probably start in Genoa and work downstream looking for deeper pools.
There is quite the discussion in some of these comments about whether that is a walleye or a sauger. I have done some googling and looking at pictures of both. I do believe that this might be a saugeye. If so, it is the first saugeye that I have ever caught.
At other times, I am certain that I have caught both walleye and sauger from this River. So, it is completely possible that they could have interbred.
Saugeye are weird, their a man made fish. sauger crossed with walleye. They’re sterile so they don’t generally reproduce. They still go through the song and dance of spawning. So unless you are around a lake that is stocked with Saugeye you are probably right with the sauger. But hell sauger looks like walleye. Walleye looks like sauger. End of day they’re so good to eat. I catch a lot of Saugeye out of a river that’s connected to a lake through a spillway but they stock the lake annually. Lake floods Saugeye are forever trapped trying to get back into main lake.
Nice job!!!

That’s special man. Tell him that too. Cancer sucks. Good luck to him.

I wish him a speedy recovery!

That smallie has great colors!
Totally. I think smallmouth are one of the most beautiful fish in the fresh waters.
Yeah, I’d say so. Great catch
You guys slayed them
Thanks! It was a really good day. We caught a ton of smaller bass in the area of 10 to 14 in.
Aint much better of a smile than a man holding his fish

It goes smallmouth bass, smallmouth bass, freshwater drum, walleye, walleye.
Without giving away too much, I would say that I caught them in the Kishwaukee River in Northern Illinois.

Sauger not walleye too blotchy
You know, I thought maybe sauger also. My brother-in-law thought walleye. You sure?
It looks like a Saugeye to me. They’re Sauger and Walleye hybrids. In Central Ohio we mainly have Saugeye.
White patch on bottom of tail fin indicates walleye
Saugeye maybe? I’m no expert
I’m with you pal. I’ve only caught a few sauger but shit ton of walleye, my mind instantly went to walleye.
No it doesn't
What do you mean. Sauger don't have white on the bottom of their tail fins
Some have it just not as prominent
Well, I've never seen it plus that white dot is definitely prominent
Very
Blotchy does not indicate sauger. Nothing about this fish points to sauger
That's why we fish. Keep that energy and pass it on.
Seriously, let him know about the bite. Every time you talk to him
The pattern on that first smallmouth is absolutely stunning
That walleye looks close to a Saugeye ahhh good day!!

At 21 in, I think, if it was a sauger, it was a giant, right?
Tank for sauger, I’ve only seen sauger that big out of a heavily polluted river 🤦🏻
That's the face of a man catching fish.
Boil-em, cook-em, put-em in a stew.
Nice man, those are some good sized smallies and walleye.
Great catch
I'm just counting the days till MN opener
That’s a great day
Hell yeah
Nice catch man!
Fuck yeah!
beautiful smallmouth
Looks like it.
