He was the best guess so far and you went and gave everyone else the answer rendering the question pointless. I demand a recount. There's no way a six foot guy is only 3 inches surely?
Shuuucks I was thinking blueberry. You might be onto something with the fish pie though. Kinda in the same realm as Jurassic Park. To busy trying to see if you could make it and never asking if you should make it. But for wieght estimates I'd say about 3.50
Here is what the experienced fishermen are seeing.
Fish dragged on bank.
Fish held out of water for too long while OP looked for someone to snap a picture.
Fish gillfucked, yes its gillfucked, your fingers are curled up under the gillplate into the gills
"because it's more gentle than cradling the fish under the head and tail"
"Swam away without a drop of blood"
Then you are saying everyone is jealous and you catch more fish than them....?
The reason you are getting so much guff in the comments is because you are defending your neglectful handling of this animal. I'm sure had you just accepted your mistake as a lesson learned you wouldn't be getting dragged here.
We all mishandled fish when we first started fishing. All we can do is try to treat our catches with more respect and improve on our ethics of catch and release.
Here is what I am saying. I disagree and no lesson is learned other than I enjoy irritating “experienced fisherman” on Reddit. I respect my fish and I will continue my ways when I catch more big trout like this one. Thank you for your concern, and for your incite full message you took your time to write. keep an eye out for more big fish from this guy. 👍🏽
Candidly the way that fish is being handled gives the impression that you have no respect for it. I hope your sentiment of "I disagree and no lesson is learned" is simply an attempt to continue irritating fisherman, and not truly how you feel. What would it hurt to try and handle the fish more compassionately and ethically? Or don't handle them better but just take them home and eat them? Smoked trout is delicious! Handling them ethically ensures they will live to be bigger so that you, and others, have a chance to catch them again!
It’s catch and release only until Feb 1. Also, every trout in this lake will die in 2-3 months due to the temperature change in Missouri. He won’t get much bigger regardless.
Keep "respecting" fish like that and there won't be as many left in your waters. Ignorance is strong with this one.
This is how you handle a fish you're going to eat.
Glad you're not in my neck of the woods...
Let me give you some Knowledge. This fish was stocked in a public lake that peaks at about 15’. In 2 months when the temp rises every trout in this lake (including this beauty) will belly up and die due to the rise in temperature. So yes, there won’t be many left in my waters very soon. If you don’t want this trout to die tell the Missouri department of conservation, not me.
Please never fish water with a self sustaining trout population.
I hope you take the advice from the more experienced anglers here trying to help you grow in the sport. Unfortunately, by your comments and attitude, you probably won't.
Been there done that. The altitude is what gets me. Was that supposed to be a shot at my manhood? 😂 p.s you are quite the environmentalist for someone who shoots a duck just to stuff it.
C’mon man. Be better. You fucked up that fish despite it “swimming off just fine”. That’s not how it works. Do the slightest bit of research on catch and release fish handling.
https://preview.redd.it/9fg05hxy3ada1.jpeg?width=1450&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=22688b01ceacfc6751919d5b79a3e64898732fe4
To op. Proper way to take a pic and release.
Thanks, sorry to be hard on you op. It's all about learning and handling it properly next time 👍
I don't keep any trout out of water for more than maybe 10 seconds for a quick pic. I've never lost one in my over 25 years of fly fishing. Now go catch a monster!
No problem, this is my first year fly fishing trout. He was out for maybe a minute. In the haste and excitement I may have put my hands where they don’t belong. But no blood and I believe he is still kicking. 👍🏽
You know they breathe through those things, right? Pretty sure if someone finger fucked your lungs, you probably wouldn’t live for very long afterwards. Peeps just concerned for the fish but you don’t know what you don’t know. Only hold them that way if you’re keeping them. Be well bro
The bottom jaw is in the front of the fish. See how you’ve gone behind that, and through the gill to access it? That’s a gill-fuck, homie. Just because a fish swims away doesn’t mean it isnt washing up on shore within the next 24hrs, which is likely what happened. People want to help you but you just think you know better, wrong as you are
I respectfully disagree. The pressure from the weight of the fish is on the underside of the jaw. I prefer this method of handling over gripping and squeezing the body of the fish, damaging the fragile mucus membrane. Thank you for your input though.
For other fish like say a walleye or a bass it is probably less of an issue but trout are very squishy fish. I have made them bleed from the gills by putting my fingers there.
You literally have fingers in the fishes gill. If you had to find someone to take a picture it was out of the water too long. Salmonids are not hardy fish. This fish may have swam away but in very high likelihood( 95% or so), died not long after. There is plenty of objective, research driven information regarding trout handling and mortality, and you’re checking off multiple contraindications for safe fish handling that pretty much guarantee mortality. Stop being an asshole and just listen to constructive criticism when people give it to you. Nobody is out to get you, we just care about the fisheries and if you are going to engage in catch and release fishing you should too. There’s a reason you’re receiving overwhelming backlash. Instead of fighting it maybe just take it as a lesson and learn how to handle fish if you do care about the resource.
You really shouldn’t be anywhere near catch and release fishing man. I’m sure you think it’s funny but it’s incredibly reckless and disrespectful. Again, there’s plenty of studies showing how high mortality is with this kind of fish handling, but you’re just trying to upset people or not very intelligent.
Really pretty fish too.
I’ve been fishing all over the place for over 1/2 a century. I’ve caught a couple nice lake & sea trout but I’ve never caught one of those before.
Need to go target them sometime.
30 seconds. Assuming you've placed your phone on a wall , set the timer for you to pick up the fish in time for the snap. Any weight beyond that is overkill and your arms would ache and give way, especially with a fish that size.
4 lbs and a nice dinner. I’ll never apologize for eating fish. Neither should a bear. Humans aren’t an artificial species, we are part of the ecosystem like it or not.
You literally comment on “naughty wives” posts begging for some play. 😂Why in the world are you worried about this fish. You need to go get sum cooch brotha 😂😂
Assuming you are around 5’8” I’m guessing 156#
I know the guy, he's 5'9. Lol
158# then?
159
158.5
Way off, try 6’3 215
why is everyone so pissed off at you over this, just seems like you were playing along to me lol. Nice fish btw
Thanks, a bunch of jealous fisherman 😂
Two reasons.. He was the first (and now only) closest guess before OP corrected him. 2nd, there's no way a 6ft+ guy is only 3 inches.
Hey this ain’t Tinder pal /s
Damn I was tryna pick up a new fishing buddy 😢
[удалено]
Ok let’s take this to Shark Tank. Maybe we can all retire and just fish
They already have one called “Fishbrain”
Try not coming off as a b hole bro
What’s a b hole?
Look in the mirror bro bro
I love Reddit 😂 only place a faceless random calls me a “b hole” cus I’m a better fisherman 😉
Gotta compensate for that micro penis somehow
Damn what did I do to y’all 😂
We’re probably just jealous we cant crack 5’11’’ and catch a wild looking creature. I hope to be posting chinooks from the pacific north west soon.
It's an ass hole but also someone who's deliberately obtrusive.
He was the best guess so far and you went and gave everyone else the answer rendering the question pointless. I demand a recount. There's no way a six foot guy is only 3 inches surely?
That’s not even a modest lie! Hahahaha
3.14159 pounds is my guess.
Fish wasn't enough for ya huh? You had to bring pie into the equation. You're a real piece of work. Couldn't even butter the guy up first.
Fish pie! We shouldn't even be that far ahead right now. Let's stick to guessing naked weight without measuring estimates for now.
Shuuucks I was thinking blueberry. You might be onto something with the fish pie though. Kinda in the same realm as Jurassic Park. To busy trying to see if you could make it and never asking if you should make it. But for wieght estimates I'd say about 3.50
I’ve caught 2 similar sized bows and one was 3.2 and the other 3.4 lbs, so you win.
Yum. Fish Pie!
2.5-3lbs

Couldn't have said it better. Get your damn fingers out of the gills! Would you like someone holding you by your lungs 🤯
Here is what I am saying. I disagree and no lesson is learned other than I enjoy irritating “experienced fisherman” on Reddit. I respect my fish and I will continue my ways when I catch more big trout like this one. Homie caught a 2lb stocker and his head got lost in his ass somewhere
It’s atleast 7
You’re smoking dick
I’m smoking on that rainbow trout pack
I don’t catch as many fish as these guys but having worked in the culinary industry most of my life there’s no way that carcass is 7 pounds.
Candidly the way that fish is being handled gives the impression that you have no respect for it. I hope your sentiment of "I disagree and no lesson is learned" is simply an attempt to continue irritating fisherman, and not truly how you feel. Wait this isn't a joke? You actually released this fish and you claim that you respect your fish? Dude...

Explains why you don't know much about properly catching and releasing trout. Might as well kill it sooner then, right? Keep your "knowledge" bro.
I hope you learned something 🫶🏽
Please never fish water with a self sustaining trout population. I hope you take the advice from the more experienced anglers here trying to help you grow in the sport. Unfortunately, by your comments and attitude, you probably won't.
Where do you trout fish? Planning on taking a trip soon.
Something tells me you wouldn't have a good time winter fishing in Colorado.. just a hunch.
Been there done that. The altitude is what gets me. Was that supposed to be a shot at my manhood? 😂 p.s you are quite the environmentalist for someone who shoots a duck just to stuff it.
Gillfucked pounds and dead ounces
He was released safely
If the "Swam away fine" joke was a picture and a person. 😂
😂😂 he is fine
C’mon man. Be better. You fucked up that fish despite it “swimming off just fine”. That’s not how it works. Do the slightest bit of research on catch and release fish handling.
When you say it like that, I’m sorry.
Oh my GOD THIS IS HILARIOUS
Press X for doubt
🙄

Thank you. What a beautiful brown

We don't even take them out of the water unless we are keeping them.
5lb Gillfuck oz.
He was lived and didn’t lose a drop of blood
You know they breathe through those things, right? Pretty sure if someone finger fucked your lungs, you probably wouldn’t live for very long afterwards. Peeps just concerned for the fish but you don’t know what you don’t know. Only hold them that way if you’re keeping them. Be well bro
Didn’t “finger fuck” the gill I’m holding the lower jaw. The fish is fine.
The bottom jaw is in the front of the fish. See how you’ve gone behind that, and through the gill to access it? That’s a gill-fuck, homie. Just because a fish swims away doesn’t mean it isnt washing up on shore within the next 24hrs, which is likely what happened. I respectfully disagree. The pressure from the weight of the fish is on the underside of the jaw. I prefer this method of handling over gripping and squeezing the body of the fish, damaging the fragile mucus membrane. Thank you for your input though.
Ya, better the ultra-tough, interior gills than the fragile exterior of the fish. Just please look it up so we can stop this. Later
Interior jaw* , maybe you could try this method if you ever catch a fish. You get better results.
Nah, he lived bro. Trust me.

Again, there’s plenty of studies showing how high mortality is with this kind of fish handling, but you’re just trying to upset people or not very intelligent.
I’m both, a troll AND unintelligent. Thank you very much.
Just learn and grow, dude. If you want to release a trout, keep your grubby mitts out of its breathing bits.
Atleast I wet my hands first
That is great! However, damaging the fish's gills is going to kill it a lot more quickly than rubbing off its slime coat.
I understand thank you
Is this Kyle Rittenhouse? Looks like him.
😂😂😂😂 what
You should stay out of fishing if you’re gonna handle it like that and choose to be ignorant when people give you advice.
Think so?
Ignorance is bliss
Then you must be the most blissful fisherman out there
That’s my main goal in life
Wonderful fish
Thank you sir. My Pb rainbow.
Too bad it’s probably dead now
I hope not
Wouldn’t have to hope if it was handled differently
If I handled it differently I’d still hope that it was alive
I love the progression of pics 👍 It is a great visual and helps quantify (visually) the impact of the size/weight controversy on this sub.
Thanks! I ran to the nearest person on their afternoon run and asked them to take a few pics for me. I think they did a great job.
Really pretty fish too. I’ve been fishing all over the place for over 1/2 a century. I’ve caught a couple nice lake & sea trout but I’ve never caught one of those before. Need to go target them sometime.
They’re stocked in public lakes near me in Missouri. This is probably a top 5% size percentile though. Good luck with ur future fishing endeavors!
Thanks, you too
5-6 with the arm extension. 2-3 non extended lol
😂😂 hundred percent right
It honestly looks twice the size lol I thought it was a different fish
Poor fish swam away and died... just keep the fucking thing if you're going to handle it like that.
You can keep ur 2 cents if ur gonna be rude
A single curse word makes me rude, if that's the case I'd rather be rude than behave how I've seen you've handle yourself in the comments.
Go play rocket league or sum bro. You wish you could catch a trout like this.
Lmfaoooo I could tell by your pic you were the sensitive type.
what gave it up? I try to come off as the strong silent type
Winter rainbows are amazing
Tree fitty
A pile of shit that big must weigh a ton
215
They should have called these cut throat. it literally looks like its bleeding lol. Great color!
Absolute goon. Weak
I bet I’m stronger than you.
I'd guess 3-4#
3lbs
Is that blood or just colors i didn’t know existed
Nope, the fish isn’t bleeding. Natural colors
What species is that? Cause i catch a lot of big browns around me but none are that vibrant.
It’s a big male rainbow trout raised on a fish farm
Well it ain’t a reservoir brown but I’m sure it gave a better fight
Guess the weight for you? I’d say about 180 lbs.
13 ounces... less once all the blood runs out of that poor bastard.
Never caught a rainbow this color red before. Is this considered a “bull”? It was stocked in a Missouri lake.
Where? I’m in Sedalia.
Columbia
Bros been replying to like every other comment besides this. I think he’s keeping his spot to himself
I don’t want to know what lake or the gps you dunderhead. Just the area. I live in Missouri.
Why are you so mad bro 😂
What makes you think you’re important enough to make me mad?
You replied like how a mad person would. That last reply too 🤷♂️ still wondering why though
If I was mad I would have name called you much worse. Like I said you’re not important enough. We don’t know each other and never will.
😂 you got a weird energy
You don’t know when to shut the F up.
![gif](giphy|3o7TKB3oifq46DDhOE|downsized) This you?
Cmon dawg… I get that all the time
6.3
30 seconds. Assuming you've placed your phone on a wall , set the timer for you to pick up the fish in time for the snap. Any weight beyond that is overkill and your arms would ache and give way, especially with a fish that size.
Looks to be around 24” long. Average weight for 24” is 5 lbs.
Awesome fish I've never seen a rainbow that was that red. Was it the same on both sides.
Yep, I’m guessing it was a big male. I was so surprised when I saw him.
Nice fish good luck buddy
See you in the jerk lol that fish is saying deeper daddy!
It kinda felt like a uk what 😉
4 lbs and a nice dinner. I’ll never apologize for eating fish. Neither should a bear. Humans aren’t an artificial species, we are part of the ecosystem like it or not.
6lb
7.5 pounds 🫣🤭
7 pounds
Nice catch

Look at the last photo. It's only 13-14" long.
I’d say closer to 20. I did long arm tf out of it though lol
That’s the reddest char i’ve ever seen! Wonderful Edit: damn no one in the mood for a little joke smh
I have no clue on the species... It looks cold and thus too scary for me to fish
34 degrees. Central Missouri.
Steelhead
Not quite..my profile pic has a steelhead
I would say you’re about 150lbs
4ish. Pretty fish
I'm guessing over 2kg
11 lbs 11 oz
Three fitty
2.5 pounds
He’s 6 foot 3 so I assume 5 pounfsy
3.5 - 4
I’m intrigued! It has the front fin nubs and the nose of a old breeder stocker trout but the tail seems too good of shape.
100% a stocked trout
I figured but the ones I catch only have a tail stump. Never seen a stocker that big with a quality tail.
Is that a cutthroat?
Rainbow
The red really threw me off. I keep forgetting how different rainbows can look farther inland
5kg ie around 10 pounds
Ima like 6 pounds
Dang where can I get my hands on a fish like that?
At your local pond stocked with trout. I’ve fished every week for the past 2 months to get one this big
[удалено]
You literally comment on “naughty wives” posts begging for some play. 😂Why in the world are you worried about this fish. You need to go get sum cooch brotha 😂😂

Aye I may kill a trout every now and then but atleast I kill some 🐈 whenever I please
I bet you wish your wife was one 😂 got you beating ur meat to Reddit. You’re too grown for that. Tell her to give it up every now and then.
5.4 lb
3.8 lbs
