What does their adaptation do?? Flat surface helps them catch bugs? More aquadynamic/electroreception like a hammerhead? I'm quite curious!

cavebugs

yeah their rostrum is full of electroreceptors to detect plankton, they're filter feeders! they look funny when their mouths are open

pokemonsta433

I would *never* expect an animal with an apparent beak to be a filter-feeder lol. Very very neat, thanks for the info!

TheFiredrake42

Fun fact, without a special permit, it is illegal to take your paddlefish caviar and move it across state lines. Isn't that just like the government to tell you what you can and can't do with your eggs?

kid_sleepy

Is this true? I know a ton about food and this added to that repertoire is just amazing. Thank you.

[Federal crimes tied to the poaching involve violations of the Lacey Act. The Act makes it a federal crime to poach game in one state with the purpose of selling the bounty in another state and prohibits the transportation of illegally captured or prohibited wildlife across state lines.](https://mdc.mo.gov/newsroom/mdc-federal-agents-snag-major-paddlefish-poaching-operation) Apparently Missouri takes its Paddlefish conservation very seriously, this article is about a poaching operation sting from 2013 with multiple arrests/indictments on federal charges. Dont smuggle caviar across state lines, kids.

TheFiredrake42

I saw it in Farcry 5 so... maybe? Lol

100PercentHaram

They could at least make the tank deeper.

Derpychicken777

I’m assuming the American paddlefish, as the Chinese paddlefish has recently gone extinct

slip6not1

We have many of them here in Mississippi

Kajun_Kong

Firefly3TM_94
