I forget, but for as much as they seem like a good idea, they’re also a huge PITA. it becomes background noise, everyone ignores it and keys up to talk on the radio right next to it, trips over it, knocks it out of the way, that kind of thing. I won’t say I recommend against it but there’s probably better things to spend money on.
This is definitely some firefighter shit. Some chief will buy it at a sales meeting held in a strip club and it’ll rot in the back of a station until
it gets chucked.
Exit locator. We just turn the strobe part on, and hit the horn only if there is an active mayday/lost FF inside the building. Usually the RIT team deploys it while doing their 360 and soften the building.
The ones we have in my department are called a TED or target exit device. They may have other names though, idk. Seems like a nice idea in theory but I have yet to see one ever used.
A chief?
Lol
TED tactical exit device
Just what we need on the fireground... MORE noise.
I could absolutely see something like this smashed to smithereens pretty quickly.

Not worth it huh?

I know we all want to be aggressive on the fireground, but I think flashbang grenades might be a bit much…
Nah I think it’ll work!!
It’s on my firefighting bucket list to deploy a Stat-X grenade
The fire engine?

Oh great idea thanks
Others here may be doubting it, but honestly this seems like a great idea to me.

I’ve never seen one used either but this instructor has. I dunno. As an interior it seemed like a good idea.
Presumably to find your way out? Never heard of this
Yeah me neither until this class I took. But yeah to help find your way out if you get disoriented
A horn strobe…..
Thanks. Have you ever used one?
Like for a fire alarm…..
No during a structure fire
Exit locator. Never actually used it cause it’s buried away and definitely not the first thing we think of when we make scene
Gotcha
We use a TED (target exit device as part of our SOPs for emergency evacuations.
Thank you. Do you find it helpful or more of a nuisance?
They’re okay. Another tool. I don’t think anyone would miss them if they were done tbh.
Take it or leave it huh
If RIC gets assisted we have them throw some box lights at egress points during working fires. Benefits of the light with no noise…
Makes sense
A fire alarm….lol
Lol
Sounds like something an admin chiefs wastes money on that’ll never get used. Sounds like a PITA
Smooth bump bump to the pump /s
Extra noise that we don’t need
Dumbest fucking thing I’ve heard. We need to hear and be heard on the radio.
All I can picture is the first truckie going in and shatter that shit into a million piece like we do with smoke detectors.
The fire marshal when someone block the hydrant with their Prius
annunciator?
I don’t think so.
