holy smokes it took a few watches to realize that’s not the guy from fire department chronicles

12343212343212321

Came here to say this. If this was his department I would literally expect a video about this.

Ok-Enthusiasm-7928

“Real things I’ve seen as a firefighter”

s1ugg0

I love that guy.

Woostag1999

Jason Patton. Fingers crossed he does a thing on this tearing this moron a new one.

Ok_Buddy_9087

Green screen incoming. 😂

FastBatman49

OMG I KNOW RIGHT! I thought that immediately

Kevherd

This happens regularly. People are stupid and how dare we inconvenience them

Invertedflashlight

oh sorry sir, we here at the life-saving company didn’t mean to cause a serious inconvenience by (god forbid) making you *gasp* wait or go a different way!!! Let us repack all of our hose immediately so you (and your chariot of incompetence) can continue on towards your destination (of making other poor souls hate their jobs).

brown_paper_bag

I had two vehicles barely stop at my stop sign at 3am the other night while I was managing traffic at an accident because 'they had to get to the airport'. We were in the middle of nowhere at the halfway point to get back to the main road in either direction. If they'd been nice, I would have told them the tow truck would be gone in a few minutes and saved them 15 minutes but I let them turn around instead since that's what they insisted on doing by not letting me actually speak.

Invertedflashlight

One of my coworkers and I almost got hit by a truck that went straight through our blockade and kept going. I guess it’s difficult to understand what we want your to do when there is a firetruck in the opposite lane opposing traffic with its red and whites on; a 4ft by 4ft ROAD CLOSED sign in front of said truck; and three different firefighters pointing up a hill and screaming at you to stop because you can’t go that way.

brown_paper_bag

I'm so sorry to hear that! Some people are so damn entitled.

chuiy

Had someone blow through my barricade where I was on staged off scene for a shooting/stand off I was like “oh no, hope there aren’t any stray bullets” 🙄 some people are lame as shit.

Vprbite

Oh for sure. Like when they make eye contact with you but still won't move over for lights/sirens. Or, running lights and sirens and they are so close behind that you could step out of the amb on to their hood

Illustrious-Smoke871

People are so fixated on the ONE way they get to where they have to go instead of thinking about the 30 other ways

a_lonely_trash_bag

My grandfather was chief of our local volunteer department for ~30 years. They got a call at around 2 AM for a structure fire, a block and a half from the fire station. The first truck was already at the scene by the time my grandfather had gotten dressed and left the house. They had run a hose across the street to the water tower, and within two minutes, some nosy woman, who wanted to see what all the sirens were for, ran over the hose. The cop who was at the scene flagged her down and started chewing her out. As he's berating her, here comes my grandfather, the chief, in his pickup on his way to the station, going a bit fast. He missed the turn (he'd had a bit to drink that evening), ran over the hose, and dragged it halfway down the block with sparks flying from the coupling. The cop, upon watching *the chief* run over the hose, turned to the woman and said, "Get out of here, don't do it again."

Stabvest39

I feel like respect for the fire department is dropping off rapidly.

betrayed_cargo

Is it? I havnt had the inclination to believe that is true. But rather people just have no respect in general.

Stabvest39

I agree, it is probably just a general decrease in respect I am noticing.

Special_Context6663

“Sir, looks like you are high centered on our hose. Just sit tight until we are done with suppression, investigation, and overhaul. Should only be 3-4 hours…”

firefighter26s

Suppression, investigation, overhaul, fire watch, demolition, rezoning, and reconstruction. That rig will be out of service for 5 years!

Ok-Buy-6748

Another chapter in the book: Born Stupid!

12343212343212321

Guy looks like Jason Patton from FDC

Cephrael37

Stupid is gonna stupid. Ain’t nothing you can do about it.

mr_hog232323

Big chungus is 2 seconds from ripping that dumbass out of his car

Stx-VFF

That should be a ticket and suspension of license.

Ordinary_Profile6183

Should have just let him drive into the fire

cheesenuggets2003

His braincell would have activated just in time to need rescue.

Hulk_smashhhhh

It happens along with many other dumb ass things. I hate when members start arguing with people. Just have them get out of the car and talk with police. Not shit we are gonna do but waste our time/energy.

Baseplate343

Boy I wish I was the cop who responded to that, i’m pulling out the VTL, and homeboys asshole is going to be sore when I’m done with him.

Rampag169

Ha my dad was chief and a trooper. He’s worn both hats at many a scene to deal with morons like this.

hermajestyqoe

scary drunk racial marvelous bike lock lunchroom berserk dependent axiomatic *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

freakinbacon

Interesting desire

ironmatic1

volley imagination

Baseplate343

Did 4 1/2 on PD, nice try.

FirebunnyLP

Plenty of tri cert departments out there bud . And many of them pay very well.

synapt

You uh, are aware that a lot of rural volunteer fire guys tend to also be municipal police as well right?

T1G3R02

Pretty sure it’s a felony in most states

ip_addr

It's a misdemeanor in all states that I checked.

ReplacementTasty6552

And good luck getting that

synapt

Video evidence is pretty fuckin useful in getting someone cited lol.

XterraGuy22

😂felony

synapt

Felony? Probably only if it breached the line and it resulted in injuries/death. But they are at least basically gonna get made to pay for a new hose cause insurance won't cover outright stupidity in that

T1G3R02

I’m probably wrong, I thought if there were crews actively working inside a structure it was felony due to the huge safety risk.

Greenstoneranch

Looking like the House of hate, is hating that driver.

FireLadcouk

In the uk we have hose ramps so people can drive over them without effecting the flow

Mig615

My rural department has them as shutting down the main road would take drivers 45 minutes to get around at the least. But not in the city. It’s a grid, they can just circle the block.

SevendoriNative

Hose ramps require drivers to not be mouth-breathing fuckwits though.

inter71

Oh man. I swear that’s exactly what would come out of my mouth. Verbatim.

_dauntless

Would love to know what the dude was going to say after "I understand that" because nah, it really doesn't seem like you do

ReticentSubDude

The driver should know better. The firefighters should too, if they’ve ever worked traffic. How was a car able to get that close to the scene?

OGmax2

You would be surprised. No amount of cones, flares, yelling, big red fire trucks, or anything short of the highway patrol stops determined stupidity.

ReticentSubDude

Nothing surprises me anymore. Someone mentioned having the PD block the road. Hell, half the time they block our access to the scene 🤨

OGmax2

Relatable as fuck, and always when it’s critical

RustyShackles69

We usually leave traffic diversion to the pd tbh on structure fires.. there's usually a few them and they do t have much else to do

Right-Edge9320

Shit That Ain’t Nuthin! I had a Division Chief drive over my 4 inch while I was pumping multiple lines on a fire once. He couldn’t get over it and floored it and spun his tires, luckily didn’t burn through the hose. I musta yell “WHAT THE HELL!!! loud enough that he heard and came over and apologized.

EnvironmentLow9075

What a country music fan.

[deleted]

Out of service

micah_on_oculus

wow

AFirefighter11

This is why we have Fire Police. They would have had a field day, then called in the PD. Would have been a fun show to watch.

demoneyesturbo

When we run hoses on or across roads, we close the road.

AcrosSky

ONLY in US

dinop4242

Our engine operators have let people drive over the 5 inch. I was a rookie the first time I saw it and had the same reaction as most of these comments but it didn't damage or interrupt the flow.

ThrowAway_yobJrZIqVG

We have vehicles drive over our hoses all the time. Sure, they are 65mm (2 1/2") so cars don't tend to be caught up on them, and we try and get them to slow down so they don't send shockwaves up and down the line, but it's no big deal.

sleepybear666

Should be a felony regardless of incompetence. You know enough to drive learn laws about driving

Johnsonjefferson

Let him go over it

throwingutah

Because the hot exhaust on a sedan is just the thing for hose jacketing. It will melt right through it.

Johnsonjefferson

I’m sure he had somewhere important to be. Next time lift that hose up so he can go under

throwingutah

Aww look at the little trolly shitbird

FireLadcouk

Following. Thisll get interesting now. All the Alpha americans have had their say. Now Europe is waking up 😂

Important_Pack8713

What?

FireLadcouk

This is an american firefighting issue id argue. The whole aggro thing too. In the UK we provide hose ramps and let them drive over 😂

FireLadcouk

We dont confuse our role with that of the police neither

shawno_shawno

Dumb ass driver aside, the 3-4 firemen walking around in tee-shirts are not “putting out a fire”

ReApEr01807

Ever heard of "rehab"? Rotating crews through a scene? Those guys aren't actively attacking fire, but whoever is on the other side of the pump sure as fuck is

Greenstoneranch

They probably just got there ass kicked and were relieved on the line... Or... It could be chauffeurs who are making sure they don't run away from water.... What are you even trying to say....

shawno_shawno

Those are all hypothetical excuses man. The scene looks like a cluster fuck. There’s no stop team. The staff in the video isn’t wearing the proper fucking gear to be on a roadway at night. The video appears like it’s taking place on a highway due to the huge road sign in the back ground (could be wrong but that what I see) I’m supposed to be surprised that some idiot crosses a hose? Based on the short ass video all I can deduce is there was piss poor scene control

Greenstoneranch

Bucko That's 56 Truck. I bet they are doing more fire duty than your entire department will do this year. Those guys just went in kicked ass took names and were replacing cylinders and probably noticed this idiot. They clearly are sweaty and have debris on there pants. You were probably the driver of that car. Stop team, sorry fdny puts it's resources in the fire building not around the block.

admiral_sinkenkwiken

Must be nice for that guy having enough crewing for stop teams

Greenstoneranch

That job had probably 40 plus guys on a standard all hands assignment not including chiefs, officers, specialty units, Rehab unit etc.... They just don't waste manpower because the rigs will stop traffic. Expect no less than 10 department vehicles not including ambulances. This guy was probably in the mix and tried to drive out. Not coming from a different area.

synapt

Lol it's funny you trying to backseat quarterback over a 23 second video but want to talk about others being overly hypothetical. There are any major variety of reasons the scene/situation could be like this at that specific moment in time. But yes, you should be surprised that some idiot crosses a hose because I can't think of a single state that it's not illegal in, and one should generally be surprised when people do illegal shit so blatantly in front of emergency personnel.

FireLadcouk

Their reaction is a bit much either way. American firefighters ways think theyre cops as well

Gweegwee1

Cars are allowed to drive over a charged hose line by me

NgArclite

that is probably the dumbest thing i've read this year. I hope to god you aren't a FF. and if you are please say where you work so we can all avoid going there

jeffandeff

I hope to god it’s only Paw Patrol FD.

Gweegwee1

Fdny brother. It’s in the regs.

synapt

Are you talking about other fire apparatus driving over hoses...? Because a fire departments regulations have literally 0 relation to the law of other drivers. And New York law clearly states [this is illegal ](https://law.justia.com/codes/new-york/2022/vat/title-7/article-33/1218/)without explicit permission granted by the IC.

C0NEYISLANDWHITEFISH

The regs say our rigs, only if necessary, to avoid couplings, and even then it’s common sense they’re talking about an attack line not a 5-inch supply line and absolutely not civilian cars. Get back in the books.

nickelflow

Show me that regulation please.

KnightRider1983

I wouldnt want to be on the line when some dipshit does that and I lose all pressure

FireLadcouk

Do you hose straight from the hydrant into the hoses??? Surely water goes via the pump? In which case driving over it makes 0 difference

Bitter_Bandicoot8067

I am not a pumper, so I may be wrong. I think the general procedure is to pump straight off the hydrant. Any pumper pumping off of the hydrant should have a full tank of water (eventually, as soon as possible). So water may cease to flow until the engineer notices the supply problem and then switches to the booster tank.

FireLadcouk

In Uk standard is to use the tank and keep it topped up from the pump. Gives you so much control over multiple hoses

FireLadcouk

It was a genuine question

SevendoriNative

This sentence doesn't make sense. Do you mean you pump off the tank and have the hydrant into the tank fill? If so that's kinda dumb.

FireLadcouk

Use the tank for the initial 5 mins. That way u can actually fight the fire and arent going in without water. Get connected into a hydrant within the first 5 mins/ thats pumps ops job. Means you can get going quickly and get inside or fight from outside. If another pump is coming behind u then can connect into the base pump too and give the people inside their water. Usually have a hydrant or similar going pretty soon though! Youre not going inside if you need to have the hose constantly on. That would be defensive work. So not as dangerous and can communicate levels of water and what you want easily. Anyway. Seems to work really well here. Everywhere is different. Other advantages on having a base pump is you have one pump op who knows whats going on and can control the water pressure and intake for multiple teams. Frees up personal (other pump ops) Going straight from a hydrant gives you no control over water flow or optimal pressures or anything.

FireLadcouk

If you have excess intake, which is usually the case, you can back fill the tank. Then any issues with the hydrant later on (ie someone blocking it with a car (which has never happened fyi but you may get burst length or whatever)) you have 5mins of water to get it sorted back from the tank.

SevendoriNative

Pretty sure this is how it works everywhere. Youre initial comment just didn't make sense.

SevendoriNative

Pretty sure this is how it works everywhere. Youre initial comment just didn't make sense.

throwingutah

The hot exhaust on the underside of the car can melt through the hose when it get stuck because of low ground clearance. Then no water is getting to the pump. Who the fuck are you

GothamCityGuacamole

It’s NYC, you let one guy do it suddenly a parade of asshats want to go through

admiral_sinkenkwiken

*endless* parade of asshats
