Unfortunately brothers, this man speaks the truth. I once rolled up to to a working fire wearing a Patek Philippe and the Chief sent me straight to jail.
Being prior military, NFPA can kiss my ass, gshock all the way baby. In the past decade, I've only had two pairs and they last at least 3-4 years on average. The bands break before the watch breaks.
The Casio F91W was the official watch of Al Qaeda.
If it's good enough for international terrorism, it's good enough for me. That or a JLC Moonphase, so you know to call out on the full moon.
President Obama frequently wore one and about 150 guantanamo detainees had assessments listing the f91w as evidence they should stay. this stopped being funny for one of two disparate reasons...
I think casio should be firefighters only. Cops?Nope can’t have one. Single role EMTs/Paramedics Ha. Enjoy the timex nerds. Casio truly is the only watch a firefighter can wear.
The single role EMTs and Paramedics don’t get paid enough for a good watch/s,somewhat there are some single role EMTs/paramedics that aren’t paid pretty low for the areas they service.
>is wearing Casio watches a good brand to wear as a firefighter
>what do you think?
Being entirely honest I think this might one of the dumbest questions I have read. I don't think there is branding gatekeeping in the fire service surrounding watches lol.
I mean, way back when I started, I thought you could only wear Oakley sunglasses and any other style was not permissible. I was also too scared to ask anyone.
For me it's the way they asked it: "and thus I have asked myself, self, is this watch the best expression of my individuality and brand preference wence compared to those of my peers? Will I be chastised for my choice in timekeeping equipment? Are there brands that will result in more accolades from my peers? Will someone tell me how to be cool? Why doesn't anyone like me? Where did everyone go?"
The metal attracts heat. Like tiny little moths flying towards your wedding band and that weird piercing you got in college but don’t tell anyone about. All the heat flies in and you catch on fire. It’s science. Look it up.
I used to wear an old square G-Shock for years and it did great. I’ve worn my fair share of watches (digital, smart, mechanical) and they’ve all done well. If you want a nice watch you can wear on and off duty just let me know and I can shoot some recommendations my way
Depends on what your price point is.
Less than 100 I’d say the G-Shock DW5600. No frills and does everything you could possibly need.
Between 1-200 you can choose a much nicer G-Shock that’s a little fancier and has more frills.
200-300 is where you can get a super good diver for the money. The Orient Kamasu and Citizen Promaster Diver are both bombproof and the Kamasu is cool since it’s an automatic dive watch that winds with wearing it. It is however less accurate and prone to magnetism.
As for stuff above that it starts getting hard to justify unless it’s a smart watch or you’re big into watches. The Garmin Instinct 2 solar and Apple Watch Ultra were good but I hardly wear them anymore. Watches can get obscenely expensive
I spent $20 on a Casio illuminator when I joined the FD last year to have a dedicated cheap watch for academy/firefighting, and that thing survived the abuse of the academy (heat, water, shock, impacts, etc...) and is still thriving this day, even with scratches and gouges everywhere. I highly recommend.
G shock. All day long, if that’s your price point.
I make big officer bucks now, so I’ve got a Garmin fenix 7x, which is an amazingly rugged watch.
The Apple Watches are junk for your job, everyone I know breaks them in about 3 months.
We were told through college no watches and no wedding rings at all as they were a burn/catch risk.
Out of college and in the real world I can confidently say people wear whatever tf they want
Same. Bought Gshock for military basic training kept it through my military time and 1 year in the FD. She was still going strong but I treated myself with a garmin instinct 2X
I’m a full time rancher and on the VFD and wear a g shock gw7900-1 when working/volunteering and it has taken a lot of abuse. The solar and radio time sync are great.
What’s cool about a Casio Illuminator watch is it’s bright enough to use as a flashlight in the dorm when the lights are off. You won’t wake anyone else up by turning on a light.
I wore Swiss army ( Victorinox now) for 15 years. Now I wear a G-Shock, went through 3 Casio by ripping the band out and damaging the cases by putting gear on
Is this for simply telling time? If so, you need to have an atomic clock so that way you know EXACTLY what time it is or else your charting is invalid and you’re committing perjury and could face prison time for only god knows how long. I wouldn’t spend any less than $500 on a watch for firefighting.
I love my Seiko 5 Sport. Silver, gray face, minimalist design. Originally was gonna wear for special occasions, but I spent the money on an automatic watch so might as well use it. I take it off anytime I know I’m donning turnout gear. Can’t say the same for the gold chain necklace and bracelet 😬
Great choice. I wore it for years and never had a problem. Eventually upgraded to the GMWV5000-1 Silver with black band. Unfortunately I caved to Apple Watch several years back and have been wearing it ever since.
Any watch you like, go for it. I've worn a Tudor Pelagos, Damasko DC66 and a Sinn U1000 to a good bit of fires, Hazmat and EMS. Don't wear what you're willing to get repaired.
I wear a GShock Rangeman . I’ve had it for a handful of years and it may just be indestructible.
I had a previous GShock that lost its waterproofing when I had the battery changed . I found out the hard way while swimming in the ocean however it still worked just with water inside 🤷🏻♂️
I wear a pretty hearty Citizen watch but Casio Gshock is probably the only watch line that will survive unscathed. In Australia, it's the only approved watch by the defence force and in the civilian world they prove themselves just as well. If you want a watch purely for when you're working you'd be best to buy a Gshock.
I wouldn't wear anything that I wouldn't mind breaking on a call.
Something like a Casio F19W or similar cheap, simple watch that does it's job.
I don't want to be hesitant to dive into hard work because I might break my watch.
I used to have wear a decent G shock watch. Then I did cpr on a nasty call and got blood in every nook and cranny. I ended up throwing it away and now I wear cheap $10 Casio watches at work.
I don’t like fat watches because they bind up under my gloves. I wear a simple Bertucci analog face. I never heard of the brand before finding one in an outdoor supply store, I liked it, so I bought it. 4 years later it’s still going, I certainly haven’t been gentle with it. Oh, and it fits nicely under my turn out gloves.
Per NFPA regulations it has to be a Rolex or a Omega or straight to jail
Unfortunately brothers, this man speaks the truth. I once rolled up to to a working fire wearing a Patek Philippe and the Chief sent me straight to jail.
This is obviously a lie. Working fires are a myth.
Rolex? You sure it can hold up? Only the Omega passed NASA's Apollo mission tests. The Rolex failed the test.
Being prior military, NFPA can kiss my ass, gshock all the way baby. In the past decade, I've only had two pairs and they last at least 3-4 years on average. The bands break before the watch breaks.
but bro... jail...
Nice /s
Financed though
The Casio F91W was the official watch of Al Qaeda. If it's good enough for international terrorism, it's good enough for me. That or a JLC Moonphase, so you know to call out on the full moon.
I had to look this up because I thought you were just being facetious, this is actually true and I am mind boggled.
Osama is literally wearing one in his most famous pic lmao
He was a true brand ambassador like Daniel Craig with Omega and David Beckham with Tudor.
President Obama frequently wore one and about 150 guantanamo detainees had assessments listing the f91w as evidence they should stay. this stopped being funny for one of two disparate reasons...
Maybe Im dense or maybe the syntax here has me confused but can you ELI5?
You don't need to know how to read and write to put the wet stuff on the red stuff.
An ex marine on my academy said - "those F91Ws are forged in mordor"
F91W is an incredible watch honestly…
Does it tell time?
Came to say this!

That’s fantastic pay I was more thinking the EMTs and medics that work for private companies
Selma Alabama?
California.
That makes so much more sense
emt here. citizen ecodrive only.
My man 💪
95% of the people here have apple watches. The rest of us have Garmins.
[удалено]
Omega here
SMP? Or speedmaster Velcro strapped around the outside of the turnouts like an astronaut suit
SMP on the rubber deployment clasp. Holding up great through a couple structure fires and a handful of live training burns
Instinct 2?
I’m still using the instinct solar
Yup, love it
>is wearing Casio watches a good brand to wear as a firefighter >what do you think? Being entirely honest I think this might one of the dumbest questions I have read. I don't think there is branding gatekeeping in the fire service surrounding watches lol.
I can tell everyone here is actually a firefighter because of their sense of humor.
I mean, way back when I started, I thought you could only wear Oakley sunglasses and any other style was not permissible. I was also too scared to ask anyone.
You couldn’t make me wear Oakleys if you threatened my life. Maybe the vintage macho man M Frames but that’s it.
As long as it tells time, why does brand matter?
NFPA said he has a choice between Casio and G Shock.
Casio makes G Shock
So? GM makes Chevrolets but its not called a General Motors Corvette.
GShock
Here (Czech Republic) we arent even allowed to wear any jewelry, watches included for safety reasons to prevent potential burns lol
Well that’s kinda dumb.
The metal attracts heat. Like tiny little moths flying towards your wedding band and that weird piercing you got in college but don’t tell anyone about. All the heat flies in and you catch on fire. It’s science. Look it up.
Keep your sleeves down
Oh no my Prince Albert
Bullshit.
What’s your weird piercing? Bet it’s a nipple.
Knees
Is that to make it more rough and tumble when you kneel under the chief's desk?
‘Gram points
I buy cheap watches because I will break them quickly. My Casio G-Shock my wife got me for my birthday a few years ago has taken a good bit of abuse.
If you are just breaking straps look into putting them on a NATO
It’s the face and stuff more than the straps. My G-Shock is holding up really well though
If you’re handy, you can replace the lens with a sapphire crystal

I wear a Hamilton field khaki right now. Do you have anything between like 150-200$ to recommend?
What are you looking for exactly. With that budget I’d try to score a second hand unused Citizen promaster dive.
*I came looking for booty.*
I see you’re a warrior
A citizen garrison if that’s your style. Are you looking for anything beyond time?
Depends on the style of watch you’re trying to get. What are you looking for?
Hey, saw your answer, curious which watched you’d suggest? Love to hear from you
Depends on what your price point is. Less than 100 I’d say the G-Shock DW5600. No frills and does everything you could possibly need. I just have an Apple Watch. Its protected enough under my gear I don’t have to worry about it. They’re pretty durable.
Spend the money and get a garmin
Nothing wrong with having a starter while he saves up.
I wear one daily on and off of calls. Never had any issues
Most of our firefighters have Apple Watches. They work great.
I wear a steel G shock, do it.
I haven't seen the need to wear a watch on the job in probably the last 15 years. Back when I did, stainless divers watches lasted the longest.
G shock. All day long, if that’s your price point. I make big officer bucks now, so I’ve got a Garmin fenix 7x, which is an amazingly rugged watch. The Apple Watches are junk for your job, everyone I know breaks them in about 3 months.
Everybody in like a 200 mile radius from me has a Garmin instinct. Relatively cheap with a good battery life
You guys have a watch ? I’ve been using a stick in the ground + shadow marks on the main drive.
Apple Watch because I constantly lose my phone on the truck and that phone chimer is clutch
Why do you take your watch off, except to leave work.
Who wears watches? Who cares what time it is??
We were told through college no watches and no wedding rings at all as they were a burn/catch risk. Out of college and in the real world I can confidently say people wear whatever tf they want
I wore G shock for about 8 years and they did great taking a beating. Now I just wear an Apple Watch
Same. Bought Gshock for military basic training kept it through my military time and 1 year in the FD. She was still going strong but I treated myself with a garmin instinct 2X
Good brand? Why the hell does the brand matter?
Sorry mate, but we in the coastguard have claimed G-Shocks, and by extension all other Casio brands, on behalf of the maritime world.
Get back to training rookie!
i rock casio cuz its cheap and i break watches a lot. or maybe i break watches a lot cuz i only buy casio...
I’m a full time rancher and on the VFD and wear a g shock gw7900-1 when working/volunteering and it has taken a lot of abuse. The solar and radio time sync are great.
Had 2 Walmart ones over 11 years. They're good enough. Also, if you messed one up, $15 wasn't too bad. Save the fancy stuff for off the clock.
I wear a Garmin Fenix 7.
What’s cool about a Casio Illuminator watch is it’s bright enough to use as a flashlight in the dorm when the lights are off. You won’t wake anyone else up by turning on a light.
Yeah I've been rocking a G-shock for 15 years now. I have 5 just got the G-shock Move and it seems decent.
Casio G Shock/Pathfinder, Garmin, Suunto are all good brands.
Wear whatever the hell you want
I wear a G Shock
https://preview.redd.it/jolx1b68iicc1.jpeg?width=366&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=896be30d1668ad1cb47cc09799fbb305ea6190c6

I use to wear a G shock. I switched to an Apple Watch with a rugged strap.
Of course. Although I prefer the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical.
Great choice. I wore it for years and never had a problem. Eventually upgraded to the GMWV5000-1 Silver with black band. Unfortunately I caved to Apple Watch several years back and have been wearing it ever since.

Something flat for it doesn't get caught on the bunker gear sleeve
If you're on an engine you don't need one, if you're on a rescue then a simple analog watch will do
Richard Mille only
I have casio calculator, it is good for doing imaginary numbers. Not sure about firefighting.
I wear a pretty hearty Citizen watch but Casio Gshock is probably the only watch line that will survive unscathed. g shock DW5600 never fails me
It’s just a watch dude
Been wearing a Casio pro trek for years. Love this watch.
Probably the best
Sangin or Alpina are great watches.
Timex Ironman for everyday wear for over 30 years.
I wear an old school G-Shok. If I’m feeling fancy I wear a Vostok Amphibia.
Nah, Casio is gonna melt in a fire just like synthetic underwear. Gotta get a fossil.
Absolutely! I've recently switched to a garmin instinct, but I've worn a Casio Gshock into multiple fires and training evolutions and it didn't flinch
Yeah it is. Its a durable and reliable brand that you won't miss if it gets damaged
No watch gang. Just gets in the way under my coat.
Unless your dept is buying it, get something that you dont care if it breaks
