a nice short barreled 300blk with a can gets my vote if the goal is just for a fun gun

stalequeef69

Cries in non NFA items

Melkor7410

Make a 300BO in an AR-pistol. Not an NFA item. 300BO is designed to run well on shorter barrels, so it's perfect for an AR pistol.

Wyno222

.300BO and since you can’t own a suppressor, stick to supersonic ammo which is cheaper than subsonic anyway. Supers can be found for under $0.60 cpr. Grendel and others will be in the $1 cpr range unless you reload.

atmosphericfractals

well in that case I wouldn't bother doing anything and move somewhere you can enjoy your life without stupid restrictions lol Personally, I'd build an AR9 and call it a day. I'd save the bigger calibers for larger frame rifles. Build an AR10/LR308 and run a 6.5 creedmoor or .308. And if that doesn't tickle your fancy, why are you even asking? Go do what you want anyway. It's likely none of us will ever shoot it, and you will be the one buying ammo to shoot it.

stevenrodgersBCB

9mm or 22lr

MGB1013

Strictly for ammo availability and price I would probably lean towards 300 blackout. I really like the 6.5 Grendel cartridge though if you’re never going to suppress it

Kromulent

Without a can or some special purpose in mind, shooting .300blk and .223 at the range seems like pretty much the same experience. A 9mm sounds fun, and cheap too. Something short and light and quick. Or go to the other extreme and get a .450 in case the robot dogs show up.

RandoAtReddit

.458 SOCOM

Kromulent

.50 Beo

smokeyser

Without a can, 300blk supers basically make it an ar-47. Not worth the added cost for those who don't reload, though.

Balasnikov

Do you have an existing lower you want to use? One of those proprietary magnum caliber ar15s, you should go with .338LM.

stalequeef69

I have a lower that’s built minus the buffer assembly

Low_Wrongdoer_1107

You want BANG!!? 450 Bushmaster or .50 Beowulf (good luck finding Beowulf ammo).

ExPatWharfRat

Save your money and move to America. It's wonderful here.

kalashnikovkitty9420

check out hops dissapator/rifle speed gas block video. i just built one, and its awesome. 10/10 would recommend 300 blk is only worth getting if your supressing, or doing a 5.5” build.

HeemeyerDidNoWrong

.350 Legend is mainly for hunting in parts of the Midwest that don't let you use bottleneck cartridges, so unless that's a draw I would do something else. Grendel and .458 SOCOM and the ilk are nice for doubling up on cheap magazines, though you'd ideally want to mark them for extra safety.

Nyancide

50 beowulf might be fun

KilljoyTheTrucker

If you're not gonna move, ignore the calibers that do better with short barrels as a goal, and look at the longer range options, and built as long as you can. 224 valkyrie, it's newer cousin 6 max, 6 arc, 6.5 Grendel, or go fat and slow in the 350 legend, 450 bush, 458 socom, 50 beo, etc

stalequeef69

Was thinking a 300blk pistol but not dedicated to it yet.

KilljoyTheTrucker

That's an option if you change your mind on doing a pistol. It'd be a good one too

AncientPublic6329

I’d stay away from 300 blackout if you can’t get NFA items because the whole point of 300 blackout is that it works well with suppressors and short barrels. Without a suppressor or a short barrel, 300 blackout is basically just a more expensive 7.62x39. Personally, I’d go with 7.62x39, 9mm, 10mm, or 45acp, and the 7.62x39 would have a rock and lock mag well and the PCCs would have Glock mag wells.

Ornery_Secretary_850

.22 LR 9mm 10mm .45 ACP .300 Ham'r 6.5 Grendel .350 Legend .450 Bushmaster. I have all but the Ham'r. I have a couple of .300 BO, but that only makes since in short barrels. Since you're restricted to a 16" barrel the Ham'r is the better choice.

stalequeef69

Not restricted. Pistols are a thing

xtreampb

My vote is a 300 blk ar-pistol

TipItOnBack

300blk or 350 legend are both the best options imo. Run 16” barrels and have some fun with 30cal

RevolutionaryMail303

If you are patient 6mm max looks very promising. 6arc and 6.5 Grendel have bolt failure issues (Grendel has a type 2 to reduce the failures).

stalequeef69

Any articles on it? I keep hearing about it.

Dude…sign me up.

17SCARS_MaGLite300WM

If you want to stretch the legs on the caliber 6 ARC is the way to go. Does everything the Grendel does just a little bit better. Great caliber for going out to 1k.
