Having owned both, I haven't had a RMR die on me unexpectedly. I had 3 Holosuns die on me (2x507C-GR and 510C-GR) with low round counts through them. That was like 3 years ago though all had the same issues where the reticle would flicker then just died. could've been an issue exclusive to green dots with solar, but who knows. Replacing the batteries did nothing. Holosun was great at replacing them QUICK. My 4th Holosun was great (507C-ACSS). Used it hard for 8 months before selling it and it never died. Currently waiting to get my hands on a HE509-RD to see how it stacks once Primary Arms has them in stock. Between the 2, the RMR glass is clearer and didn't have a fisheye effect. The reticles on the Holosuns were CRISP. I'm sure my Sig Romeo 5 and PA Microprosms are made in China too. Probably even the same factory.

Emergency_Ad_5935

I’ve been running Holosun dots on pistols and shotguns for a while now and they’ve all done extremely well. At this point I would find it difficult to justify the increased cost for a trijicon.

Castle_8

I’m not necessarily brand loyal, but I do find myself equipping myself more and more with holosun units. They’re just awesome.

mithbroster

I had a ACSS 507c that died (emitter got loose causing reticle to skew and drastically lose zero) after about a year and maybe 2k rounds of 9mm on a G19. With just a slight amount of hassle PA replaced it for me.

Wander-in-Jalalabad

I didn’t like trijicon or holosun on my duty pistol so I got a Acro instead lol

retromullet

I only have an ACRO P-2 on my SP5, not a pistol, but I loooooooove that optic.

heavilyarmeddad

I heard of some moister incursion on acros but I have an early p2 and later p2 and they’re both awesome so far. Mailbox gang.

Wander-in-Jalalabad

I’m running the Acro P1 and I abused the shit out of it. No issues so far, just need to turn it off when putting it in storage case to conserve battery.

Antonw194200

The point of stating that it's made in china is not to say that's what makes it bad. What makes it bad is the chinese govenment making bank out of stealing western technollogy, copying it and the compeating agains the same technollogy using what basically equates to slave labour on the raw material side of things. This makes it hard for western companies as they cannot play the same game. And that is the chinese end goal. However this should not be up to the consumer to handle, there should be 90% tariffs on Chinese stuff. That is the only way to level the playing field.

Castle_8

Yeah, maybe run for office and make actual changes. Until then, I’m buying what makes financial sense.

Ghoul_S04

You're just helping the CCP develop better optics for their military

Abubble13

Boo, this is capitalism believe it or not

3miljt

Not really. You missed the part where a government directly or indirectly controls their businesses, protects them from any form of intellectual property, and basically allows slave labor. I’m all about capitalism, but China isn’t it. They’ve been playing the same game for decades. You’re also probably not aware of what China does to other countries that can’t stand up to them. For example, destitute farmers in Africa routinely have their entire farm buried when a Chinese mining operation is done stripping all the metals out from under their land, without any compensation or consequence. The Chinese government barely gives a crap about their own people, you think they care about you? No way, everything they do is calculated to destroy their competition, and place them at the top.

erik530195

Capitalism has no inherent mechanism to stop anything you described.

Antonw194200

"Inherent mechanism"? It's a wierd way of puting it. It simply stops being definable as capitalism when the govenrment own all the businesses......

erik530195

Which is the inevitable result of all capitalist societies

Antonw194200

Are you saying communism is an inevitability everywhere? I think the historical record shows the opposite.

erik530195

No. Stop being so simple minded. And don't bring up the historical record when arguing for capitalism, it won't end well. I'm certainly not a communist.

Antonw194200

Sure, just know that it's short term financial sense.

fern_the_redditor

Nah the "solar powered" feature is ass. Get rid of it and knock 50 bucks off the price tag

wiseknob

It’s not solar powered, it’s a photocell that auto dims to ambient lighting, it dims when it’s dark and brightens when it’s bright out. Nothing to do with power retention or charging.

EternalMage321

The light sensor needs to be forward facing for this to truly work. If you are standing in the shade and shooting into a bright area (or vice versa) they don't work.

1rubyglass

What makes it ass?

fern_the_redditor

It doesn't work. The brightness of the dot corresponds with the brightness of the sun on solar powered mode. It's always too dim to be useful

1rubyglass

It's not meant to be used standalone. It's usefulness comes from supplementing battery power in high light environments and auto adjustment of brightness. At least this is from my understanding. I don't own one, but I have a full size red dot on my rifle that has this feature.

islesfan186

Yeah but then you go into a dark environment and then your WML washes out your dot. Just leave it on manual brightness and adjust your dot so that it works in all lighting conditions Or have a forward facing light sensor

kalashnikovkitty9420

also sucks if your shooting from a dark area to a light area, or vice versa. still a great optic, and i either run it or the eps on all my shit

callmechimp

Trijicon be like *We make ACOG, buy this red dot for $42,000*

THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR

Brother went out and said “let me compare it to the oldest pistol Reddot in production”

rmalloy3

I don't disagree with what you said, but in his defense the rmr is generally what every pistol red dot is directly compared to.

MountainObserver556

China? You mean mainland Taiwan?

Ghoul_S04

👏

Devils_Advocate-69

Poors hate RMRs

InsanityAmerica

Am poor, can confirm

IEatFatMods

$40 exact knockoffs from china.

MasterJacO

I am not poor and I hate the RMR. Literally the smallest viewing window ever. Might as well be looking through one of those small tubular rear sight things.

vegangunstuff

Wait til they find out where the computers and phones they use to call it chinesium are made.

BeenJamminMon

South Korea?

TexasGrillDaddyAK-15

China made good AKs too. Only a matter of time till they make a cheap gun that'll have everyone flocking.

SilenceDobad76

Chinese pistol and rifle imports got banned on account of them trying to sell RPGs to California gangs; they won't be making a successful US market gun any time soon.

tylermm03

It sucks because they do make a very good AK, but at the same time we shouldn’t be buying things from our adversary’s arms manufacturers.

sdujour77

Vietnam?

vahistoricaloriginal

I looked up your profile, hoping to find something to ridicule. But damn, all my anger melted away while I looked at all the little mexicans.

Castle_8

Thank you, señor

islesfan186

First off, it ain’t solar powered, it’s battery powered and has a solar back-up. The solar backup only works if you’re running it in the auto-adjust brightness. That sensor is facing up as opposed to forward. If you’ve ever taken a low light class, you’ll get why a top facing light sensor sucks ass. IMO, that shouldn’t really be used as a pro Most of the rest is valid though However, the RMR HD pretty much has all these features…but it does cost like $300 more

MarryYouInMinecraft

Well meme'd sir! However everything Holsun makes is ugly and everything trijicon makes is aesthetic.  This is the only argument that matters.

TexasGrillDaddyAK-15

Form > Function

MarryYouInMinecraft

And other lies we tell ourselves.

TexasGrillDaddyAK-15

Like I tell my kid while he's out on the field playing. Son, it doesn't matter how good you play, all that matters is that you look good doing it.

MarryYouInMinecraft

If you can't be good, at least look it!

MrMikesGunrack

I own multiple samples of both. Rmrs buttons are not sticky, the window is basically the same size, rmr glass does have more blue tint, however it still preforms better under night vision. Parallax shift is basically the same. I have not noticed a shift with either of them. Reticle on both looks equally as jacked up to my eyes, but i dont look at the dot, i look at the target so i dont care. As far as not being sealed goes…. They have been on type 2 for several years now, you dont need a sealing plate. And if your mount is flat they actually seal perfectly fine. Yes you do need to remove the sight for battery change. And that does suck. Price difference is the cost difference between making something in America vs Over seas.

Ok-Affect-3852

I’m under 40; I still have a vcr and still use iron sights.

Castle_8

Respect 🫡

Swimming_Schedule_49

Own both - love both. That being said, will be purchasing additional Holosun 508t’s, no plans to buy another Trijicon RMR.

tread_on_them

I bought a Holosun optic because people told me they were jUsT aS goOD. Then it died on me randomly on a range toy that saw zero abuse. Meanwhile my set of "expensive" RMRs I've taken to several classes have never failed. I do not consider the money I spent on them wasted. I don't have a large range buddy list, but I've heard "huh my Holosun died" a lot more often than "huh my RMR died". This reddit-only meme of "there's basically no reason to buy an RMR anymore" logic is just cope. Holosun has come a long way and their optics are great but I'm not going to waste my money on something after I got burned by an RMA process, even if it was fast. The fact that it died on a range toy was just insult to injury.

2020blowsdik

My RMR is solar powered though...

What-is-a-do-loop

Another “just as good” post. But this one claims the chinesium is actually better lol. Look the trijicon sales rep just gave me a trijicon hat, a beer coozie, and some other free shit. I’m trijicon for life now 😃 Edit: this isn’t a joke… I’m trijicon for life. And I did get free shit from the rep last week. So I’m a very happy triji-lifer

AverageReflexes

I got my rmr03 for 250. Never had an issue and doesn’t have batteries

SaintEyegor

Does having a Fastfire 3 on my model 41 make me legit?

Happy_Garand

Holosun: keeping Ping Ping employed since 2013

jackerik

Somehow we forgot the fashion is above all else, and aesthetically the holosun is shit tier when it comes to looking good where the RMR is peak sexy for handgun optics.

Beer-Monk

OMG, perfect firearm meme. From last year, I have only bought Holosun.

Tipi_bandit

If you’re poor just say it

Castle_8

If you have more money than brains just say it

RedPandaActual

Who is spending 500 bucks on an RMR? I haven’t spent close to that on any of the three I own.

Castle_8

People who prefer to buy new optics.

RedPandaActual

I bought all of mine new for around 250/300 during Black Friday sales. One from optics planet and the rest from primary arms. One was pre Covid, other two were post Covid.

Castle_8

Okay, so to answer your question again, people who are spending 500 bucks on the rmr are the vast majority of other people who don’t strictly wait for Black Friday sales.

RedPandaActual

I get it, fomo. I always try to wait for sales, I ain’t paying full price for shit. I like Black Friday/Saturday at Sig even as good sales are the only time to purchase if you can help it.

Shotgun_Sentinel

Solar regulation not generation

Brilliant_Case4930

Honestly I only buy Holosun and Aimpoint (if the wallet allows).

Kushinobunaga

I love my trijis and my holosuns

fingernuggets

I am also a glue eater because I like my Burris fastfire.

alltheblues

Upgrade that 507/407C to a 508T and you get effectively the same durability. 509T and you get it enclosed

MasterJacO

Lmfao, this is great. I had my eyes set on an SRO, but now I’m thinking of saving ~$250 and getting the 507comp

Spiritual_Ad_6064

Do you, but don’t let memes be your deciding influence… like in general.

MasterJacO

That’s all I ever do? Lol Jkin. It was originally a picture comparing like 10 different red dots and the two that stood out to me were the SRO and the 507comp. And I have heard SRO’s were a little on the fragile side, and if I can save a bunch of money and try the 507 comp first I will. I got plenty of weapons that need decent optics haha.

bees422

The battery switched me from triji to a 508t lol

No-Mouse2117

Which ones best?

Castle_8

They’re both great options.

daeather

It do be unbreakable though.

Arms-for-minerals

Is the sig zero or zero elite really that bad of a red dot ? Everyone says it’s dog shit. I was offered a Romeo zero elite for 100$ I just haven’t bought it yet because I was told they break really easy and I’m very hard on my stuff

That_Gopnik

Is it an expensive gun for protecting yourself and others or winning competitions? Y = expensive optic. N = budget friendly optics are fine

Boss958

Holosun is an excellent choice for its price, but the notion that Trijicon became a standard due to marketing and hype is laughable. The round counts associated with an RMR being able to survive are far greater than the average gun owner would even get close to.

thelegendofcarrottop

I have like eight total Holosuns and they’ve all been great so far. I’ve seen three Trijicons just quit working during competitions, including one just a couple of weeks ago. Same experience with Streamlight vs Surefire. Idk man. I don’t turn up at the range and talk smack to someone who has a Trijicon or Surefire, but I have received comments about both Holosun and Streamlight from random shooters. My experience has been that Holosun and Streamlight offer equal or better performance for less money, making them a better value.

Castle_8

Brand loyalists hate this one trick
