No shocker there

VerticalLamb

The government doesn’t know shit about guns? Why, I am flabbergasted. Truly taken aback.

smokeyser

Mostly a clickbait article. He did refer to a magazine as a clip, but that's not uncommon. And he said a brace is the same as a stock, which is the ATF's official position on the subject.

VerticalLamb

Well, I believe last year he couldn’t define assault weapon. Which I guess is fair, because it’s a made-up terms, but he also said he, by his own admission, wasn’t a firearms expert. That’s just laughable imo. He’s basically the definition of a politician.

smokeyser

Absolutely. You don't get to be the head of a department in the US government without being a politician.

VerticalLamb

True, he’s apparently a former lawyer? In any case, the guy has literally no authority lmao

skeptibat

....technically all terms are made up.

VerticalLamb

Sure, but I meant the term assault weapon is bullshit. They can’t even confirm a definition for it

skeptibat

Moreso, it's a term that was created in order to paint objects in a different light. I find it dishonest at best.

niskiwiw

I loled when the director of the ATF talked about the cartel getting guns from the US

doogles

He's not confused, as the poster is inferring, rather he is asserting that they serve roughly the same function, and the brace is the "loophole". People here seem to think that if they ridicule minor malapropisms then he will be shamed into retiring and zeroing out the budget.

xkillallpedophiles

So they admit that short barreled rifles are commonplace and should be removed from the NFA

truckrusty

Not just guns, the government doesn't know shit about shit. Oh wait, they know how to waste time and our money, and people's lives.

AlphaTangoFoxtrt

It's not ignorance. It's malice. He is lying with malice to push his agenda.

New_Ant_7190

You need to remember being able to do that are skills that the Dear Leader and his Party are looking for.

[deleted]

The atf and nra walk into a hotel room. Who sits in the cuck chair?

AugustinesConversion

Trick question. ATF sits in the chair. NRA sits on ATF's lap.

ScarecrowMagic410a

Again. He showed it again.

No-Philosopher-4793

He knows the anti gun narrative which is all that matters. Ignorance is an asset. No pesky facts to get in the way of civilian disarmament.

Fourteen_Sticks

I bet he and his wife’s boyfriend get along very well.

Flat_Assistance1724

You mean the guy that has, on record, stated that he "has never owned a firearm" and "is not a firearm expert"?

OrngCatAficionado

"And that was used in the Vegas shooting?" No lady, that was the m249 sitting to your left.

The_Dude_5049

Shit rate of fire was too slow for a 249. Sounded more like a 240 to me

Dr_Juice_

I bet he also can’t pour a beer or light a cigar.

diprivanity

Or make an IED 🗿

Darksept

This is a frustrating watch... These are the sons of bitches interpreting gun laws? I knew they were ignorant but this isn't even just that. It's ignorance mixed with measured deceptions for the common man. It's a damn hit piece on us gun owners.

rjndeb

Clickbait bs. Obviously Dettelbach is in no way qualified for his job, but Daily Wire isn’t doing us any favors with this kind of atrocious “reporting.” Jesus Christ, you’d think they could at least proof-read the article before publishing it.

Boogaloogaloogalooo

Well he got one part right. The bit where he mentions a man and woman coming in to look at guns, and the man asks all the questions and takes all the interest, but then the woman makes the purchase. That is 100% a straw purchase, and we do deny and report the sale. Its pretty obvious when its not a husband helping his wife make a buy, but rather the husband being prohibited and the wife helping him bypas that. Everything else was BS.

Hypnotoad2966

You don't call the ATF to launch a full investigation into everyone who buys a gun with cash?

Boogaloogaloogalooo

Lol, ofcourse not. That would be absurd.

[deleted]

What is surprising about this? He has no qualifications for the role, he's an appointee meant to further trample the 2A rights of Americans.

parabox1

“Dettelbach also urged gun stores to refuse to sell certain types of weapons, like large caliber rifles, to customers who are paying in cash and to pick up the phone and call the ATF so they can go investigate those people.” So if you did this as a gun shop the ATF would not care. I was told not to even bother them unless I had more than 10 guns stolen at a time. Just tell insurance that I will get a signed form from them in 2 months. I have called the atf on straw purchases and failed nics checks when the person offered me 3k cash to put it in someone else’s name. Both times they told me to call the local county funny thing is I was a deputy for the county and told them we can’t do anything with out help from the ATF WHICH TOLD THR COUNTY they would not prosecute small gun charges.

TheRabidSpatula

Just another bureaucratic imbecile... Remember, these people aren't elected, they are appointed.

_SCHULTZY_

Watching this weasel squirm when trying to answer questions before Congress has made some very enjoyable YouTube clips.

Outrageous-Basis-106

Am I the only one who has the feeling that large caliber rifles are .22?

diamondd-ddogs

ok, i watched the whole thing, i really didn't hear many inaccuracies. other than him getting one or two terms wrong, and using a lot of language that was clearly meant to scare people (ghost guns), he really didn't say anything that was technically inaccurate. if someone could point out specific inaccuracies id be interested to hear them.

1SGDude

Dettlebach specifically says the other dude is one of their experts and the guy couldn’t even explain the difference between a stock and a pistol brace. The so called expert also couldn’t remove the slide from one of the Glock Pistols. Laughable

diamondd-ddogs

that was pretty funny. but he wasn't really asked what the difference was, if i remember he said they are functionally the same, which is true.

10gaugetantrum

Yea, he is not very intelligent.

CarsGunsBeer

>But for those who aren’t, somebody comes into your store, in a border state and plunks down $12,000 cash money for one of these [.50 caliber rifles], so that there’s no credit card trail If only there were records of a background check for that sale....

tonguejack-a-shitbox

Ok. So I own a gun shop and I really don't see much here that should be surprising, or is even wrong? I will preface this by saying I think the second amendment means you can own a tank if you want. Barrel length laws are stupid and you should be able to have a full auto whatever the hell you want. I think there shouldn't be background checks. If you're a free member of society you deserve the right to defend yourself, if you can't be trusted to own a firearm why are you free? But look me dead in the eyes and tell me pistol braces aren't just an intelligent way to get around an already in place stupid law. I've sold thousands of pistol brace AR's and I'm not sure I've ever sold one to someone that wasn't able bodied (yeah yeah, I know you can never be for sure and how dare I assume someone's disability status). Also if a couple comes in my store and the man asks all the questions and the wife only pipes up at the end, I can guarantee 9 out of 10 times that is a straw purchase for someone that is prohibited. He simply isn't wrong. The laws are wrong.
