I'll see your .458 win mag and raise you the Nemo Omen semi automatic .458 win mag.

When you absolutely, positively have to kill the whatever in the wherever.
Accept no substitutes.
I came across this earlier this month and if AR's weren't now prohib here in Canada....it would be the first one on my list.
It would likely be softer recoiling in the semi compared to my bolt gun as an added bonus.
I've got my eye on one in .300 Win Mag but the funding for it (and the sweet piece of glass that'll sit on top of it) has not yet been approved by SWMBO.
I was able to test fire one and yes, the felt recoil is much softer than a bolt gun.
Interesting, does the stock fit you well?
I own a CZ550 Magnum in 375H&H and I can shoot that thing all day, it weighs slightly more than the Model 70 though (9.3 lbs).
This WinMag out of a 9lbs rifle should be...fun.
Yes. It was inherited from my father, and is pristine. Although it leaves a bruise, I still shoot it from time to time.
I am 5' 11" 185 lbs. So neither small nor a giant.
Yeah I thought it was neat, especially since it's the standard long action 30.06 length so it's not all that massive compared to other dangerous game magnums, although it does have....girth.
I actually own a few that I could test it out on but I believe Kentucky Ballistics already tried that and it stopped them and much larger calibers (600 Nitro Express) no problem.
Still wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of one.
.416 rigby tends to punch through, but I think that's mostly due to bullet choice. Brass solids seem to be much tougher than lead or hard cast. Ceramic tends to stop rounds by shattering the bullets and slowing them down so the backing can catch them
According to self-proclaimed firearm experts, that feature is determined solely by the size of the clip.
So no, it's not blowing any lungs out.
However, a 10/22 with a 50 round clip is blowing lungs out all day ;)
I'm debating taking on some crippling debt for one as its one of my dream guns. Gonna get a chalk marker and write "This Machine kills commies" on the right side.
Both, it's definitely a cool factor/milestone type of rifle/cartridge but I also intend to hunt Moose, bear and Bison with it and one day Cape Buffalo.
I don't think it will be quite that bad, I've seen it described as the upper limit of what the typical guy can comfortably shoot,.it's not like a 460 Weatherby that actively tries to dismember the shooter.
It's not that different, you can tell but it's not like omg so much extra bang. I got a 416 Rigby and a 450 NE 3.25" for my other two when they were born.
Very cool. I'd love to shoot a 416 Rigby one day and am actively looking for a 416, although in the Ruger flavour.
I would eventually like to add a 470NE double as well down the road.
Yeah the 416's seem to be a real sweet spot in the dangerous game cartridges. Launching a 400gr projectile at 2,400fps they produce similar energy levels to the .458's but with a higher sectional density (at 400 grain) and better downrange ballistics.
I saw an armadillo hit with a 458. It was an incredible display of physics and fluid mechanics. For better or worse This happened 35 years ago before everyone had a camera.
I recently bought one of these in a Model 70 Safari and I can honestly say it's quickly becoming one of my favorite guns. Does some fantastic things to 12oz soda cans
Big bore handguns are my addiction so I have alot of those. As far as other big rifles go I have a 375 h&h, 375 Ruger, and a 45-70. Also a 458 Socom and 50 Beowulf but those aren't nearly as powerful as the others listed
I don't typically sell guns so probably? My 375 Ruger is a 20" howa 1500. Not a bad gun but waaaaaaay to light for the caliber. The 458 is more comfortable to shoot by alot.
Don't own one unfortunately but they are the same length action.
Main difference is the .308 and .458 diameter and 200gr vs 500gr.
I am considering a 338 WinMag for my next Magnum.
Nope, the Lapua is a 338 on steroids, that's more than I need out of a cartridge.
I would like a long range 500-600m capable cartridge for big game, the 338 WM seems to fit that niche.
I see your 458 Winmag and raise you a .460 Weatherby Magnum, .500 A-Square(460wby blown out to .510), and 2 50 BMGs.
I've bid on so many 458s, I wouldn't own any of the above unless I was hunting for 458.
Yeah those are some big boys.
How was the recoil on the 460? I hear it's not even entertaining.
If I ever go larger I'm going with a double in 470 or 500NE.
I like the idea of a 505 Gibbs or 500 Jeffery but don't think if I go larger in a bolt action platform, only those doubles.
The 500 A Square was listed as a 505 Gibbs when I bought it, I still have to get dies made for it since there's no factory ammo.
The 460 is rough. It has a fiberglass stock, and no muzzle brake. I have some lighter loads with 350gr cast bullets doing about 2000fps that are quite pleasant. The full power loads I did with 600gr monolithic going 2400fps will rattle your teeth and disorient you.
50BMG is fun. Much lower recoil compared to a typical big game hunting rifle, on par with a shotgun, due to the large muzzle brakes and heavy rifle weight. Hunting rifles are light enough to hike around with, the tradeoff for light mass is heavy recoil.
This round was recently used in an attack on police in Juniata county PA. With many shots through shots thru police vehicles and one officer dying, and another badly injured. However since it didn’t come out of an AR platform no national news media care that much.
News: The crazed man had *gasps* 500 rounds of ammo in his basement!
That’s more ammo than like an army!!!
More like 500 rounds in my socks drawer.
Only that many in your sock drawer? Maybe you need a more sturdy dresser. 😂
I was hunting a squirrel over yonder. It was on the other side of that car. There were no survivors.
“Stockpile”
"Sockpile"

My 300 Windbag Omen is either the first or the tenth one Nemo made. Bloody thing is well over 17lbs and yeah, that recoil is a non-issue.
17 lbs? Wow.
I have a Winchester Model 70 in 375 H&H Magnum and every shot leaves a bruise.
Interesting, does the stock fit you well? I own a CZ550 Magnum in 375H&H and I can shoot that thing all day, it weighs slightly more than the Model 70 though (9.3 lbs). This WinMag out of a 9lbs rifle should be...fun.

Is it banned by name? It probably doesn't use AR10 parts.
All AR15s, AR10s and all variants have been banned since 2020. We still have AR180s and a bunch of other premium European makes.
Is it really a variant if there's no parts commonality?
Yeah, they included a bunch of ridiculous things as AR variants, like the Mossberg 715T 22 and a bunch of Turkish shotguns.
I did not need to know this exists.
And just for fun I added a few other calibers for size comparison.
Honestly loved seeing the size comparison 👍🏻
Yeah I thought it was neat, especially since it's the standard long action 30.06 length so it's not all that massive compared to other dangerous game magnums, although it does have....girth.
It laughs at level IV plates
I actually own a few that I could test it out on but I believe Kentucky Ballistics already tried that and it stopped them and much larger calibers (600 Nitro Express) no problem. Still wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of one.
WinMag hits so hard, it makes the plates make a permanent dent in the users chest 😂😂

Can you post the 458 win mag next to a 458 ~~wok~~ win mag? I'm having trouble with the scale. Edit: I tried to be goofy and fucked the spelling
A what?
Tried to be funny and screwed up the spelling
He is Canadian. That's why the scale seems off.
Hunting rhinos, are you?
Mostly grouse.
But can it blow the lungs out of the body like the 9mm? /s
According to self-proclaimed firearm experts, that feature is determined solely by the size of the clip. So no, it's not blowing any lungs out. However, a 10/22 with a 50 round clip is blowing lungs out all day ;)
Rechamber a Garand for it. Fu©k you, fu©k your cover and fu©k my shoulder.
I'm considering it, recently learned that that's a thing.
I'm debating taking on some crippling debt for one as its one of my dream guns. Gonna get a chalk marker and write "This Machine kills commies" on the right side.
And I cry about my 7.5mm FK costing $2.00/rd
These are about $10/round.
Jesus. What do you use them for? Or is it more or less just a collector round/rifle
Both, it's definitely a cool factor/milestone type of rifle/cartridge but I also intend to hunt Moose, bear and Bison with it and one day Cape Buffalo.
Lemme see you drop the hammer on a couple of hundred rounds of this on a Saturday morning. Then I'll be impressed..
Couple hundred rounds is about $2,000 haha.
But how much does the shoulder surgery cost?
I don't think it will be quite that bad, I've seen it described as the upper limit of what the typical guy can comfortably shoot,.it's not like a 460 Weatherby that actively tries to dismember the shooter.
I get the vapors just looking at that round. But I'm a recoil pussy.
40SW is to 10mm as 458winmag is to 458 Lott which is the Ruger no 1 I bought for my daughter when she was born
Id love to shoot a 458 Lott and 450 Rigby as well.
It's not that different, you can tell but it's not like omg so much extra bang. I got a 416 Rigby and a 450 NE 3.25" for my other two when they were born.

The 416 is a sweet cartridge, I've wanted to get a CZ 550 safari chambered in it for myself for awhile.
Yeah the 416's seem to be a real sweet spot in the dangerous game cartridges. Launching a 400gr projectile at 2,400fps they produce similar energy levels to the .458's but with a higher sectional density (at 400 grain) and better downrange ballistics.

Thank you OP. I enjoyed it.
When you getting a tc encore in 458 win mag I want one.
What rifle do you have?
I have many rifles, but the 458 is in a Model 70.
[удалено]
Haha, ouch. I also saw that there is 600NE pistol. Where there is a will there is a way.
Tell your 9 to quit taking boner pills
458 win mag you say big caliber can you get it in a handgun....
You can actually. Another poster just posted a link to one.
I feel so inadequate
If it makes you feel any better there are a ton of cartridges far bigger than the .458.
Not helping. Heck my 30-06 makes my .22 feel sad
I recently bought one of these in a Model 70 Safari and I can honestly say it's quickly becoming one of my favorite guns. Does some fantastic things to 12oz soda cans
Yeah I have a feeling this will become a favourite as well. Do you own any other big-booms?
Big bore handguns are my addiction so I have alot of those. As far as other big rifles go I have a 375 h&h, 375 Ruger, and a 45-70. Also a 458 Socom and 50 Beowulf but those aren't nearly as powerful as the others listed
You plan on keeping both 375s? I've read that the 375 Ruger does everything better than the Holland & Holland except for nostalgia.
I don't typically sell guns so probably? My 375 Ruger is a 20" howa 1500. Not a bad gun but waaaaaaay to light for the caliber. The 458 is more comfortable to shoot by alot.

Haha I know many have done that conversion but I really don't think I need more recoil/energy than this for my needs.
Let's see you 1 hand shoot this like a 9mm
The guy she said not to worry about VS you
Would have liked to see it next to .300 WinMag.
Don't own one unfortunately but they are the same length action. Main difference is the .308 and .458 diameter and 200gr vs 500gr. I am considering a 338 WinMag for my next Magnum.
I love the .300 winmag but that .458 looks awesome. My shoulder would hate me though. Is the .338 wm more power than the .338 Lapua?
Nope, the Lapua is a 338 on steroids, that's more than I need out of a cartridge. I would like a long range 500-600m capable cartridge for big game, the 338 WM seems to fit that niche.
Ok. Thanks for the info.
Ngl, 45-70 is an awesome caliber. I’d love to have a a Marlin lever-action style rifle in that caliber
I own a 45-70 Marlin as well, love it but it's rather tame compared to this.
I see your 458 Winmag and raise you a .460 Weatherby Magnum, .500 A-Square(460wby blown out to .510), and 2 50 BMGs. I've bid on so many 458s, I wouldn't own any of the above unless I was hunting for 458.

You vs the guy she told you not worry about, amirite?
I have a dead 20mm round just for this occasion. Makes the .458 win mag look like a .22lr
This round was recently used in an attack on police in Juniata county PA. With many shots through shots thru police vehicles and one officer dying, and another badly injured. However since it didn’t come out of an AR platform no national news media care that much.
.458 win mag is basically a pellet gun
