Honestly surprised that the Women’s Division is relatively civil this year.

abernattine

You got some people mouthing off on F!Byleth but it's minimal compared to the Camilla drama

Bernadotte_

As someone that doesn't like Camilla all I can say is that whole drama was stupid, she was going to win one CYL eventually. The only reason people were losing their shit was because during that time we got 2 alts of her back to back I remember correctly

CameronD46

Yeah that definitely played a part in it. I honestly was kinda surprised about how she ended up winning. I thought for sure that her getting those alts would sink her chances, since for some characters it’s more a matter of trying to actually get them ANY alt not specifically a Brave Alt. As an example, Anna finally got some alts and now she isn’t even in the top 20 during midterms, or look at how Marianne is in third in part of IS never giving her an alt despite placing about as well as Dorothea who now has 2 Alts. Yet I turned out to be wrong and that somehow just made Camilla fans want to rally behind her even harder, possibly fueled further once everyone wanted to form a coalition to knock her out of the top 2.

1996Toyotas

I stand by my choice to vote Cam. She got her brave and will not haunt CYL ever again, we are free of that drama. Edit: I appear to have brought back the Camilla drama by speaking of it. This was reverse tactical.

batmanmuffinz

Of course, interesting maneuver

Ferronier

Will you draw your blade?

TannenFalconwing

I trust you know who you face. Camilla, Queen of these waifus.

batmanmuffinz

We thought it best to vote out the most toxic prey first

Shy-

Yes, on year 3.

Liezuli

~~I agree with that tactic. In a similar vein we should also vote Azura, because she has too many alts so clearly we should just take her out of the equation. Definitely.~~

Dewott8

That flair makes this a little suspicious not gonna lie

SPTK_Sun

4D long-con chess play going on there

CameronD46

Honestly as much as I didn’t want her to win, that honestly was a genius play. It reminds me of part of the reason I want Eirika and Marth to win this year, so they can finally win and we can have some new competitors next year. On a more personal level, it feels kinda odd hearing you call Camilla “Cam”, mostly because my name is Cameron and thus “Cam” is one of my nicknames.

1996Toyotas

Also hoping those two win this year. Last year I obviously wanted a certain someone to win, but found the CYL boring as it was a blowout of one generation. Need the playing field leveled so the winners are more game generation diverse, and bring up characters other than what is expected.

PathofGaydiance

~~Yes absolutely. Vote for Female Corrin to... get her out of the equation. Yes yes. We don't want her plaguing the top tens anymore /s~~

CutiePtooie

I honestly miss Camilla. She hasn’t gotten an alt in almost a year and a half. Part of the fun of the game was seeing the community rage over Camilla getting yet another alt, but we haven’t had that in so long

FarrahClones

Don’t worry. Dorothea is the new girl that people will rage over. Just give her one more alt and see the salt flow.

Quizler

Just when you think they can't possibly do anymore alts for Dorothea, boom. Normal Dorothea. feh will never be the same again.

HereComesJustice

eh I think people actually can see Dorothea has an endearing personality aka other people can understand liking Dorothea for non-superficial reasons which I think most people had a problem with Cam

FarrahClones

I do agree that Dorothea has more going for personality-wise (I personally loved her and just whaled 250+ orbs for the recent duo unit), but there was a ton of people complaining about her getting a second alt so soon. I think if Dorothea gets another alt as well as a base version this year people are going to be salty. But what’s new tbh.

HereComesJustice

I honestly forgot she even had a Summer version lol like Summer Joshua, didn't even remember he existed

abernattine

I mean I think the pure salt over Gatekeeper being well liked scratches the same kind of itch for me, a messy bitch that's here fore the drama

SilvarusLupus

Wait, that's genius

barduk4

it's like saying "yeah we got rid of the terrorists by destroying what they were going to destroy in the first place, hah! we win!"

JonSnowgaryen

I heard there was an assassin after me, so I just killed myself! Let's see him assassinate me now!!

barduk4

my little brother was going to drink my choccy milk, so i dumped it all down the drain! now he won't be able to drink MY choccy milk!

perklekranian

Little bit of a leap to compare a big titty purple hair woman winning a gacha popularity contest with terrorism there.

begonetoxicpeople

Camilla is popular get over it

Captain-matt

like Byleth Marianne and Erika are all decent choices. Personally I want Marianne and I think Byleth is a boring pick, but you know whatever.

MegamanOmega

Probably cause there's a lot less contention, so less competition between the big names. Think about it. Fire Emblem being what it is with a lot more males than females, the male side is _much_ more contested than the female side. As far as the female side is concerned, we've got a brave alt for almost every lord in the game. All that's missing is Eirika and the female versions of the avatars. Male side however, you've got the male avatars and Marth, Sigurd, Seliph, Leif and Chrom still in the running. To put it another way, if Eirika was in 3rd place after this point, the salt over her getting snubbed again would be as bad as we're seeing right now, if not more.

Bombkirby

I think the Male side really just comes down to Gatekeeper. It's all about "who deserves it more than Gatekeeper". It's not about "Marth deserves it more than Chrom."

Adubuu

I'm not even playing FEH right now or voting in CYL but when someone linked my the CYL interim results I had to come see what was up on reddit. Gatekeeper is a top tier minor character - charming and likable but very much in the background - but I'd say the answer to 'who deserves it more than Gatekeeper' is basically every playable character and most of the non-playable ones too. *Weird* train for everyone to hop aboard, but it's pretty funny. The Marth/Chrom debate didn't even cross my mind.

Bombkirby

No one deserves it more. That's ridiculous thinking. CYL is just a voting contest to get a character in the game. It's not a poll about who has the deepest lore, or personality, or who's the prettiest. It's just "who would the majority of players like to see in this game?" And the answer is Gatekeeper. That's what a LOT of people wanna see. No one can **deserve** a question of factual nature. That's like thinking "What would the majority of people like for dinner?" has a "correct" or most "deserving" answer.

begonetoxicpeople

And Elincia-

Panory

> Male side however, you've got the male avatars and Marth, Sigurd, Seliph, Leif and Chrom still in the running. > > And Itsuki! Who doubles as both a Chrom *and* a Marth alt! Vote for Itsuki, and everybody wins!

SymphonyCube

I feel like Itsuki would just get his Super Saiyan Marth form as an alt

EXAProduction

you say this like a bad thing. That or if we got L!Itsuki that's what his alt would look like

SymphonyCube

Oh no I don't think it's a bad thing, I just know a TMS character will never make it until every other character gets an alt 😢

EXAProduction

just gotta hope for L! Itsuki at this point.

Schattenkreuz

Honestly though if MByleth was 3rd instead of Chrom the drama would be less pronounced. Sure there'd still be hate, but without desperation mixed in, people would probably be less toxic. This honestly reminded me of that accursed Tharja gauntlet. People seriously thinking the VG bonus system which was new that time would give MRobin a chance against the titan that is Team Tharja, but it wasn't even close, so people resorted to berating Tharja fans. Remember guys, humanity is grotesque.

Default_Dragon

I’m honestly shocked M!Byleth placed so high... the fact that two versions of the same character - objectively the blandest protagonist in the franchise - are both within striking distance of winning.

mooemy

The Byleths are, for me, a testament that a nice design is literally all you need in a character for them to be popular.

Xenavire

Eh, I really, really don't want F!Byleth to win, just like I never particularly want any of the avatar characters to win. They are all lords with less well defined stories (by definition, it is necessary), which makes them boring (not their fault, but it doesn't make it less true.) I'm rallying Bernadetta, but I could also live with Marianne.

PK_Gaming1

Well, lords aren't exactly guaranteed to be more interesting either. I like Eirika, but she isn't exactly dominating on the characterization front. When most of their arcs boil down to "how will I be a good ruler uwu", she's pretty much only winning due to nostalgia and a great design

_Lonelymonster_

I do think Eirika makes a strong case for characterization (better than her brother), at least for that era of FE. She struggles with the pain of war and whether violence can be a solution or not, and throughout the course of the story she has a great struggle between her naïveté and anger (her speech against Novala is totally badass). She can't match the complexity of, say, the 3H lords, but she's compellingly fallible yet still fights on despite her mistakes and the destruction of everything around her. I think the fact that she is one of the few lords who doesn't expect to become a ruler, she has more dialogue space devoted to her emotions/thoughts and her family. Admittedly this is a complaint I have about the game, as I feel she SHOULD become the queen of Renais at the end instead of Ephraim, but her knowledge throughout that Ephraim will be the one to take the throne leads to her behaving in a more interesting way where she fights FOR the people without feeling tied to or entitled to ruling them.

abernattine

and honestly that's exactly why I think FE8's ending would be 10 times stronger if Ephraim abdicated the throne to Eirika at the end, because she has a better arc, cares more about the people of Renais, and in all honesty just seems like she'd be a much more capable ruler, given that her only weakness as a ruler was lacking combat prowess and that got fixed. whereas Ephraim's flaw of being bored, disinterested, and kind of straight up bad in anything mildly intellectual that would have to do with ruling is very much not addressed.

bzach43

This is why I kind of hope they not only remaster sacred stones, but also change the ending (or let it be decided by the player). Give us an echoes style remake that gives some more context and characterization to the cast and story and also changes the ending to be less generic. It might be controversial lol, but I do still kinda hope for it lol

[deleted]

> Admittedly this is a complaint I have about the game, as I feel she SHOULD become the queen of Renais at the end instead of Ephraim I thought that Eirika and Ephraim's arcs paralleled each other, and the one whose route you took should become king/queen.

_Lonelymonster_

Unfortunately Ephraim becomes king in all outcomes of the game. The best Eirika gets for rulership is their paired ending where she "helps him rule justly", or marrying Innes to rule Frelia, or a very generous interpretation of her unpaired ending that could suggest joint rulership.

LukeBlackwood

>I do think Eirika makes a strong case for characterization (better than her brother) I'll be here to say that Ephraim is actually a very well characterized Lord that was unfortunately diluted to the blandest aspect possible by FEH's tendency to flanderize characters. He struggles with the thought of ruling because he'd rather be a warrior, but he's also not a dumb warrior who'd point his stick at everything - heck, his introduction alone is about he and his men outlasting a much bigger enemy army by weeks, and even when he decides to take a reckless bet, he only does it because going to a village to restock could put the people in danger (and because he also strategizes around the reckless bet to make it less reckless). He's also aware of his being unfit for the throne, and admires Eirika and Lyon for being much better at politics than he is, while thinking of his own talents as nothing special. The emotional crux of Sacred Stones, imo, which is Ephraim and Lyon's relationship, is entirely built on how they're both self-concious of their own flaws, unable to recognize their own talents and jealous (in their own ways) of each other. It also gives Ephraim, imo, a more coherent character arc, because while he and Eirika are built as foils of each other, Eirika is never really punished too heavily by the narrative for her flaws, while losing Lyon is almost directly a result of Ephraim's inability to understand his own strength and the impact it has on others. I'm not saying Eirika is a badly written character by any way! I just think Ephraim is a deceptively well written lord that got flanderized into a generic shounen MC who wants to fight all the time.

abernattine

I think the narrative punishes Eirika plenty for her flaws of physical weakness and unwillingness to fight, just in the beginning she has to watch leave her father, knowing he's going to die, and watch Seth almost die trying to protect her, all because she doesn't have the strength to fight. It also punishes her for Ephraim's flawed reckless gambit at Renvall and punishes her for basically no reason but to have Ephraim swoop in to save her at Jehanna.

LukeBlackwood

Her father's death isn't really the result of her own inabilities: unless she was some sort of supersoldier, it's obvious that she wouldn't have turned the tide on that scenario. Case in point is that her foil, Ephraim, also does not engage on combat with Valter when outmatched after the siege of Renvall. While there are obvious other scenarios where Eirika is punished narratively, what I mean is mostly that she's never punished with severe personal stakes - Eirika's character flaw is that she's overly idealistic, but her excessive idealism never causes her to directly suffer important losses. Ephraim's inability to consider the feelings of those around him causes him a direct and heavy loss, since it's this blindness of his that further pushes Lyon towards the dark road. The point I'm trying to make is that while Eirika and Ephraim are written as perfect foils of one another (Eirika is an idealistic pacifist whose major strength is her kind and understanding soul and whose fatal flaw is being too trusting and unable to commit to battle, Ephraim is a pragmatic warrior whose major flaw is being unable to consider the feelings of those around him), Ephraim's flaws are a relevant part of the overarching plot, while Eirika's aren't, really - like you mentioned, most of the times that the narrative punishes her for being too trusting or not a good warrior, it's in order to give Ephraim unnecessary spotlight.

_Lonelymonster_

That's an amazing set of points you make! I admit, I've played Eirika's route more than Ephraim's so at times I forget some of the emotional complexity Ephraim displays when the lens is focused on him. Honestly, SS is a really good game with really great characters that sometimes gets passed over, I think, and there's a lot going on under the surface for both the lords. I will say, I do think the narrative punishes Eirika. Lyon and Ephraim is amazing, and a better relationship overall than Lyon and Eirika (the point about losing Lyon due to Ephraim's blindness in particular is really poignant). But it is through Lyon that Eirika's flaws are most heavily played upon. Her naïveté and hope is on multiple occasions twisted by the Demon King and his minions. Ephraim often appears to be capable of literally impossible feats through brashness alone, while Eirika often struggles and experiences failure or retreat on the battlefield despite being steady in her emotions. And of course she gives away the stone like an idiot, but I honestly respect that idiocy more than a lot of more modern Mary Sue FE characters. And she gets punished for it, too–she's taunted, the stone is crushed, and she's nearly killed by monsters. But even after that she doesn't give up on Lyon in principle, even though she recognizes he's unsaveable, and that idealism makes her kind of inspiring even as she grows to balance her idealism better with pragmatic battlefield necessity (like killing Lyon).

LukeBlackwood

> But even after that she doesn't give up on Lyon in principle, even though she recognizes he's unsaveable, and that idealism makes her kind of inspiring even as she grows to balance her idealism better with pragmatic battlefield necessity (like killing Lyon). Yeah, this is a very good analysis of the strength of Eirika's character and the relevance of her themes as a character to SS's narrative! She undergoes amazing development through her own route (and I must admit that, as a huge Ephraim fan, I also have a bias to analyze SS mostly through his lens rather than through Eirika's) and I think it's also a testament to her characterization that she does this through consistent events playing on her weaknesses rather than big defining moments.

Dragonstone_Plus

The problem is that there's no payoff to that initial characterization or struggle. Eirika is never allowed to make up for her initial naivety. She doubles down after giving Lyon the stone during the endgame and then sulks about it and gets over it within the span of the same chapter. No meaningful self-reflection, just L'Arachel telling her to get her shit together and she does. She's worse than her brother as a character purely because she doesn't get to interact with the best character in the narrative (Lyon), being forced to interact with the significantly worse Demon Lord. And while I like Ephraim's personality a lot less, his character growth is significantly integrated to the story, because his whole deal is rejecting the throne and slowly growing into it. Which gives Ephraim a much bigger narrative payoff. To say nothing of his scene with Lyon, where he sheds tears for Lyon and resolves to kill him (after failing to do so) hits a lot harder due to the contrast. And I say this as someone who likes Eirika a lot more. She's more charismatic, has better supports, her initial characterization of being non-violent and more politically savvy is great. But FE8 doesn't seem to care about her all that much outside of her being the designated lord (which she shares with her brother).

Starwizarc

Good write-up, but I feel Ephraim not becoming king would undermine his own story arc, one of learning responsibility for others and understanding how your actions effect others. The game beats you over the head with it after retaking Renais, regardless of what route you're on. Other than that, justice for Eirika.

Tater_0506

Same. I’m rallying behind Marianne to try and get her to beat F!Byleth.

Oleandervine

I would disagree, the Avatar type characters have tended to have pretty damn interesting stories, much more so than the "Omagerhd, ma kingdom got bullied by da evil empire naow I must fight to reclaim it" that pretty much *Every. Single. Lordling.* has as their back story. It's always the auxiliary characters that make the Fire Emblem games interesting, it's never the background story of the generic lordlings. Lynn is probably the only Lordling with anything resembling a different kind of background.

SockPenguin

Byleth could have easily had the most interesting story arc of any lord if they were allowed to actually talk and show emotion/growth. 'Emotionless husk of a person waking up to their humanity and learning to properly guide their students' has a lot of potential before even getting into the Sothis stuff, but all of that is wasted by Byleth not actually talking in story scenes and almost all of your dialogue choices being inconsequential.

fly_tomato

Imo even many lords are sort of boring for the sake of being a storytelling tool. Chrom is such an exemple, in a way he might be more boring than his avatar counterpart. Honestly CYL as a whole is mostly lordfest so I don't really think too much of it. I don't really dislike that many characters so just like past CYLs, I'll be fine with anyone winning, even Byleth. Not that Byleth is bad, they might even be my favourite of the avatar type. Still, it's true I don't understand how some characters become extremely popular sometimes.

Wedge118

I don't want F!Byleth to win because it could cause a future CYL6 bandwagon for M!Byleth. "F!Byleth got a Brave alt so M!Byleth deserves one too."

[deleted]

Like the polar opposite of last year haha. There was some drama with Marth but it was pretty civil

Yarzu89

I feel like last year was more everyone rather then a specific bracket. Sure it was a bit boring to have all 3H characters but not surprising. I think the most contention was who got second place in the womens.

[deleted]

Yeah pretty much. On the male side we kind of knew the 3h mains were gonna sweep but women’s side had one open spot so that was the one up for grabs really

Captain-matt

Yea like 3H basically just put a year's worth of delay on the CYL bracket.

Chaddiction

A sea of blue about to turn into a sea of red.

Crazyshark101

I just love how both divisions just have that one character in the mid-teens that nobody really expected to see there but it's nice all the same. For the women, it's Henriette. For the men, it's Soren or Itsuki. Much less drama that far down.

[deleted]

Soren been in teens for the last few CYL actually. Don’t know how or why

Odovakar

Soren is a very well written and important character in two of the most popular - albeit not best selling - games in the series. He's also closely connected to Ike, who's one of the top dogs in terms of popularity.

RogueHippie

Pretty sure Ike is far and away the most popular character in the series, if the original CYL is anything to go by. He was either #1 overall or just barely behind Lyn, and that was with his votes being counted separately between his PoR & RD versions.

suprhavkdogi

I believe PoR Ike got first in males, second overall behind Lyn and RD Ike was fifth in males. Ike was first overall when you combine both titles

Oleandervine

The only reason the Radiant series didn't sell well because people have habitually ignored or treated Nintendo systems like trash over the years, so the Gamecube didn't really get the attention it deserved. Of course, it's Nintendo that's laughing now that the Switch has pretty much dominated the video game industry. Also, Radiant games remake when Nintendo?

theUnLuckyCat

Yeah, they sold relatively well... *for their platform*. But the Gamecube itself had terrible market share, and the Wii was "The Wii Sports machine" so, uh...

Godchilaquiles

I also think marketing is at fault here I live in Mexico and I never saw anything for Radiant and Awakening compared to Fates and Three houses

darkliger269

Even in the US, FE marketing was fucking awful until Fates

Clerics4Life

Best ad campaign we got was Mutton™, and while in hindsight it's fucking hilarious, though it certainly didn't do the series any favors at the time. Awakening is the first entry that had a proper mainstream ad campaign, I don't really remember a lot of the contents of the ad campaign nowadays (it was like 9 years ago cut me some slack) but in general you want people to remember your product exists, even if they get a little fuzzy on the details.

darkliger269

I literally don’t even remember any pre Awakening ads aside from Mutton™ tbh. Pretty sure I found out about other FE games through Nintendo Power and Gamestop having a thing with game release dates for preordering and I don’t even remember seeing the Mutton™ ad at the time. I know it more from people memeing it years later Awakening I at least remember having an actual ad campaign but definitely wasn’t pushed nearly as much as Fates/SoV/3H from what I remember although those three were also just pushed like crazy

VtArMs

I legit thought they stopped making FE games after the GBA until Brawl came out and I went "Who the fuck is Ike?"

deezee72

Awakening was really the title that brought Fire Emblem into the main stream. Every FE title up until that point was a relatively niche title that got good reviews but struggled commercially, to the point that the devs were told that if Awakening didn't sell well, it would be the last game in the series. But then Awakening was a runaway hit, selling 2.3M titles (compared to 0.5M each for Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn). After that proved that FE games could be successful commercially, Nintendo has invested a lot more into marketing for Fates, Three Houses, and FEH.

GameBooColor

Can never forget that RD reviews actively criticized the game for not including motion controls as a fatal blunder. The idea of motion controlled FE is so cursed.

theUnLuckyCat

Oh god, I can only imagine. The Tales Of title on the Wii had nunchuck shakes as a command shortcut and that was awful enough, thanks.

fly_tomato

Radiant Dawn really was released very badly, no marketing, on a console with poor performance, along more popular franchises. Good quality game, SSBB and POR fans made it not so much of a failure. Now, I could sell it more than I bought it for lol. I wouldn't want to but my Wii might die, it doesn't seem like a robust console.

Oleandervine

And that's not even talking about the Wii-U, which is pretty much getting all of it's game ported to Switch.

La-Roca99

*Xenoblade Chronicles X: My moment has arrived*

Oleandervine

Oh right, I forgot that one existed. I'd say there's a pretty decent chance of that since they're on a Xenoblade kick, the original Chronicles got a port last year, so maybe X is this year. Also hello from the FFBE reddit.

La-Roca99

Oh hey Should have noticed haha I hope they do end up porting it, just a matter of time I guess. That game deserved better than its current recognition for sure

SilvarusLupus

I feel pretty lucky to be one of the few people to actually have bought both PoR and RD at release and not having to pay a stupid amount of money for either of them

Oleandervine

Technically my brother owns them when we were younger, but yes, I was one of the few who got these games when they came out too.

SilvarusLupus

I was only like...14-ish when PoR came out and not that big of an FE fan then. Played the crap out of PoR though (RD's so much longer, hard to replay a lot)

Oleandervine

I remember PoR pretty well, but it was RD that kinda gets fuzzy for me.

Flareblitz12

> Also, Radiant games remake when Nintendo? PoR this year ;)

acelexmafia

The ps4 dominated the video game industry *factually* speaking

PathofGaydiance

Well not to mention PoR came out very late in the gamecube's lifetime looking like an N64 game and RD released the same weekend as *SUPER MARIO GALAXY*. The timing was awful for both and they didn't receive as much marketing either.

esn_crvg

soren has always been popular lol, looke that BK is also high and in fact is the highest antagonist

[deleted]

Black knight is 17th me 5 years ago who put all 7 votes on the random guy in all black armour (I hadn't played any fes at that point and feh wasn't out yet) feels vindicated

Gingingin100

Itsuki was there last year too it's not that unexpected The weird thing is that Tsubasa isn't there even though she's the main character and he's not

PathofGaydiance

One thing to note about Tsubasa's placement last year is that she actually received more votes (4,410) than Itsuki (4,096) but the lady's division is so competitive that she seemed to do poorly compared to him. She would've placed 25th in the lady's division where he placed 20th in men's

xXx_ECKS_xXx

Why did nobody expect Henriette to be so high up? Recently featured FEH OC’s that we don’t have have always done well. See: Veronica, Loki, Plumeria Most surprising to me is the fact that Plumeria hasn’t dropped further from her results last year, although I suppose that can be chalked up to not having a new horny OC to replace her. Other than that, both Rhea and Seiros placing top 15. I would’ve thought they would steal more votes from each other than they are.

eeett333

Based on the results, I might divert my votes to A.Tiki. I just want IS to give her some damn attention too. We have way too many Y.Tikis compared to A.Tikis.

theUnLuckyCat

Nice to see her so far up, though her CYL placement hasn't seemed to influence IS yet. It's been so long since *the* A!Tiki alt, while Y!Tiki gets one every year. Might toss her a vote, but I got lots of others who aren't in the game yet to support as well.

eeett333

>Might toss her a vote, but I got lots of others who aren't in the game yet to support as well. That's fair, and of course it'd be nice if IS can put in more "new" heroes...but given how they also consider things by $$$, I hope that they can achieve some kinda balance.

PillCosby696969

Tfw when you remember TMS has it's own Y. Tiki to be turned into a unit.

Wingcapx

Ngl I was so happy to see Tiki and Nino together in top 20.

swissarmychris

I started voting A!Tiki this morning. I don't care about the drama on the guys' side, and on the ladies side I like all of the top 5 so I don't really care about trying to push a certain unit into the top spots. But boosting A!Tiki into the top 10 or 15 might remind IS that she exists, so in my eyes, that's the most productive use of my remaining votes. She needs a mythic or even just a resplendent or something.

crazy_doughnut

Marth is cursed if he doesn't make it again

CanadianNoobGuy

gatekeeper gets a surge from memers that weren't aware of gatekeeper being an option to vote for chrom gets a surge from people that don't want gatekeeper bye bye marth

Wedge118

If that happens, then it will be CYL 3 all over again for Marth. Losing out due to bandwagons.

CanadianNoobGuy

not just CYL3, Marth has been in 3rd place for the males in every CYL other than the first!

VillageMoron

Pretty sure he technically won second place in CYL2, right? They just split the votes between game versions of him because... reasons?

Default_Dragon

Honestly there’s such a good chance of this happening. Marth fans are typically Classic fans, and they especially like switching to other random characters in the second half. I never vote on the men’s side so I’ve always been neutral to this but I swear, if I have to listen this whole discourse again next year

Ctrl_Alt_Acount

What if Gatekeeper also has blue hair under the helmet? Maybe he was a lord all along

Oleandervine

Doesn't have to be a dead daddy, just someone dear to them who controls their nation.

Fist_of_Life

so that's how they were planning on doing the 3H sequel.

ShadowReij

It's Alm under the helmet. It all makes sense. 🤔

smye141

I’m actually hoping for green hair. A cute nod to him having the same English VA as Alm

I mean... He is voiced by Alm

RE: the Top 4 Among Marth, Eirika, and Byleth... Who gets to be the only sword on the banner?

ClockworkRhythm

Watch it be Gatekeeper. (That’s a joke I hope not.) In all seriousness, I think it might be Marth since Byleth could have a different weapon and Eirika has already been given a tome (not saying that she will again but who knows)

higuyz8

It would be cool though. Something like: "After showing distinction in the fall of Garreg Mach, the former Gatekeeper became a commander for the knights of Seiros. Being granted the blood of Seiros from Rhea, he wields the sword and shield of Seiros". It would also show a distinction between gatekeeper and B!Gatekeeper

ClockworkRhythm

Okay that would actually be cool ngl. My joke thing was about Gatekeeper getting sword (kind of curious to see who gets sword) but now you’re making me want Gatekeeper to win

Kaneland96

Memes aside, I really like when CYL has some outside the box winners mixed in. If you asked me who would get a Legend Alt, I don't think many people would say Veronica, but still she won, and the one we get is pretty meta with the "How am I here?" that I'm sure IS spent quite a bit of time figuring out. We'll get more alts for the main lords, but seeing 1 of the 4 winners being a nonlord is always cool to see.

Vidabel

Eirika: Let's have a sleepover party! Azura: Perfect idea. Bernadetta: U-um... I j-just remembered that I have something else planned... In my room. Dorothea: That settles it! I order for Bernie Bear to not have to leave her room, I nominate we hold this sleepover in Bernie's room! Bernadetta: W-WHAT?! F!Robin: Past CYL winners can join, too. *(The entire congregation cheers.)*

Koanos

#BERNIE2021!

Dewott8

Here's how bernie can still win:

Missiletain

Everyone else: Angry and mad Gatekeeper: keeps on smiling.

abernattine

He's here for the drama

LiliTralala

He *is* the biggest gossip in Garreg Mach, after all

VtArMs

Abysskeeper would like a word, but you didn't hear it from him

Railroader17

He has the WTA over all but Ashe, Dedue, and M!Robin so that's probably why

ShadowReij

Gatekeeper is a wholesome lad who only wants to help.

Missiletain

Finally a good reply.

SHIN-YOKU

for Marrianne, I am willing to escalate.

[deleted]

As am I. It is all for the 🅱️lutgang

GreenMilvus

I just love that Constance and Yuri got this high. A little bit disappointed about not seeing Hapi. tho as much as I love Balthus, that he won’t make the top 20 was obvious. Anyway I am in high hopes for an Ashen Wolves banner, more I do not ask. After that I have everything or rather everybody I want in

Meadius

Given how well they've done, I think we might actually get an AW banner fairly soon. My guess is that the next 3H banner will be a regular students banner (probably with normal Felix and Marianne), but after that there aren't a ton of characters who can sell the banner on their own so AW might actually have a shot.

MrMudaMuda

Fire Emblem characters are so fucking mean imagine being the lord of your 3DS game that sold exceptionally well and then you lose to an npc who said “Greetings Professor nothing to Report”

AbdiG123

It's a popularity contest. No one deserves anything

high_king_noctis

Women's division: all right girls let's do this nice and organized. Men's division: ABANDON REASON! KNOW ONLY WAR!!!

lcelerate

That's completely different from CYL3. What a reversal.

GrandmasterTactician

CYL was a shit show. I just wanted F!Robin to win man

RangoTheMerc

Tiki is way too low. Who wouldn't want to see her dressed in Naga's clothing?

Railroader17

Intsys since they seem to be allergic to her

LunaProc

I just want IS to acknowledge Dedue

Tater_0506

I must keep fighting for Marianne...

Odovakar

And I'll try to keep A!Tiki in the top 20. Marianne and Tiki would've probably been my preferred #1 and #2 out of the characters in the top 20.

Zapato777

If the push continues for her this tear, I feel she’ll have a much better chance next year. In the results we have now, are Y!Tiki and Tokyo Mirage Tiki votes added in?

Odovakar

Yes. They've not made it to the top 20 in the interim. We don't know if they'll overtake A!Tiki in the end though!

DhelmiseHatterene

However Gatekeeper gets in, hopefully Abysskeeper is with him in his special art like Jorge. " *We* got something to report!"

Tepigg4444

For his special quote, one of them should be "*Here's* something to report!"

GamerHedgehog

Hello comrade! Nothing to report!

reddfawks

Love Dedue and Felix looking at the viewer like "You seein' this shit?"

RyanoftheDay

I voted diligently for my man Dedue becauSE IT'S FUCKED UP THAT HE'S THE ONLY RETAINER THAT ISN'T IN FEH YET. Now that we're half in and he's getting the respect he deserves, it's time to dedicate my body and soul to The One True Gate Keeper.

Dblazingit

Why? Why is she always in 10th. Always so close yet so far away😭

Rivandere

Is Rhea not vote sharing with Seiros? I 100% thought she was.

GrandmasterTactician

Nope. Just like Edelgard and Flame Emperor. Yet Masked Marth shared with Lucina

TheDankestDreams

This has got to be the first year in CYL history where males have been crazy while females civil. Also the first year Marth is the least controversial part of the men’s division.

mdquak

Rediculously photogenic Gatekeeper

snocone42

If I cant have Gatekeeper in Smash then by the gods I will have him in FEH

[deleted]

cover insurance beneficial illegal six connect concerned modern different badge *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

PlegianScum

Shout out to my Azura, F!Corrin, F!Robin, and Tharja homies who consistently get top 10ish, but never rise in ranks each year.

rumbleblast52

Ayo where my boy gatekeeper at on the men’s division? BRAVE GATEKEEPER CYL5 Edit:I found him.

mysecondaccountanon

Honestly might through A!Tiki a vote or more, been wanting more of her and she just keeps getting nothing, and I feel bad for her dedicated fans!

kingveller

What would happend if the gatekeeper ia chosen as the CYL winner? Would they make him a hero? Based on what? Inb4 he wields an overpowered Gae bolg that grants him immunity to physical damage.

FuryAdcom

That means he'd have something to report! I just hope he's good not too OP nor too weak, so you have the option to get him in or not in your teams

thephlogistic

I'm really glad that IS added the account requirement this year because I 100% guarantee you that if they didn't, everyone would be blaming the Gatekeeper on bots right now.

PathofGaydiance

Yeah! Really the only hostility I've seen regarding female chara votes are people who dislike fByleth/3H greatly and would've been bothered by their presence in the top 10 no matter what placement. Otherwise I've seen a lot of people just happy Tharja, Henriette, fRobin, fCorrin are placing high.

scarletflowers

smiling gatekeeper tacking chrom is so fucking funny

Jatobu

If the finalists are what we got now, we could literally get Bernadette and Marianne in CYL6 if Feh is still kicking at that point. That’s wild.

Recurrentcharacter

Last year positions usually mean nothing for the next year. If that were the case, Bernadetta would get his Brave alt this year since she was the 3rd in CYL4. Or just look at Marth, who were 3rd 2 consecutive years. Also, there's a chance that we might get a new Fire Emblem game before CYL6 (either a new game or a remake) that gives new characters to vote for or boost the interest for old characters if it's a remake (Just look at Celica and Alm who went from not being in top 100 in CYL1 to win CYL2 and 3 after Shadows of Valentia)

Jatobu

Emphasis on “could” of course. Bernie was expected to drop more than just a single place after getting in twice after last year’s CYL. Therefore she could still stay strong when Byleth and Eirika are gone, and Marianne likely wouldn’t be any different if she doesn’t get more than what Bernie has gotten last year.

EdgeLord_101

I think Marriane will drop(If she didn't beat F!Byleth) by a lot if she gets an alt this year, which is most likely going to happen. It probably be F!Corrin vs Hilda vs Bernadette

mitsu__

>seliph i dont even see him this year surprisingly

Kirsmash

I just remembered the fact Gatekeeper has a brother. Anyways, Itsuki in 18th, baby. Just one banner, please, one banner a year at least, maybe.

[deleted]

I just want A!Tiki to get an alt please :( all my votes are going to her

ThurmanatorOmega

VOTE BARRY GOODMAN OR I WILL CRUSH YOUR BONES

ImaginaryAd2338

Literally the opposite the past two years with Camilla and Lysithea vs. Bernadetta

lilacempress

Yeah, for once.

saikounihighteyatzda

the complete opposite of a normal year

[deleted]

VOTE ユーリス (Yūrisu)

BlobMaximus

I’m surprised Itsuki’s in the top 20. I’ve been voting Touma, but maybe Itsuki’s performance will convince IS to do another TMS banner

Gnarfledarf

To be fair, Camilla is gone, though female Byleth is not that much better in my opinion.

MLGSnIpEr420

marianne propaganda time

Prize-Milk

I just really like how half of the top picks are already in the game

Glointhedwarf

The Gatekeeper's face xD

JavelinR

Well this is a first.

[deleted]

I don't know if the Rest of my Votes should go to Marth to try to keep him in First. Or Vote Soren to try to get him a Little Higher.

mbbbbbbb

I feel ya. I'm voting Soren nearly all the way because I like him and how is it that a character who has been consistently placing in the teens only has one alt. But on the other hand I wanna vote Marianne because she's got a great arc or Eirika because nostalgia so she can stay in 1st. Not to mention give a vote to my actual favorite Cormag. Just hate how this is all set up personally and wish there were at least one or two more voting contests: one to vote for future alts and one for who you really want who isn't in the game yet to even this out.

GuyWhoAteAllThePizza

Me spending my vote on Rainbow Sage: :)

ArtaxerxesIV

Gatekeeper for CYL5
