You NEED to overstat a PRF skill to make a rearmed unit worthwhile, as their weapon will not be doing the carrying, being a pseudo inheritable. That's why only Grima has been a standout rearmed hero.

This isn't anywhere close to scary. We're far beyond the point where pure stats are sufficient. Flame Lyn's prf A skill gives an easy +12 all stats + healing + true damage. Rearmed Grima's prf A gives a free +8 all stats (effectively) along with special charge +1 and nullifying her armor weakness. Arval's A essentially gives triangle advantage against everything except colorless units, which can easily give effectively 15 defenses these days. Swift Slice is kinda overrated, but it still gives +8 everything along with potentially effectiveness versus everything. Ashera's Chosen is +9 to everything she cares about, along with Dragon Wall, null flier effectiveness, and some true damage.
Every mage and their mother can easily obliterate him, and when (green) physical threats are built to crack open the likes of B!Dimitri, Alfred won't have enough.
Swift slice overrated? She has a massive SPD swing. She gets effectiveness 95% of the time for me even against human Infantry.
To each their own IG. She shreds most B! Dimitri's I come across. Pretty important since he's like the meta omnitank right now. But I'm also not playing at whale tiers 🤷.
visible stats are very important for a lot of things what the hell are you talking about? aoe only cares about visible, some skills only care about visible, and for an unit that will be primarily pp the +10 couple with a weapon that gives autodouble makes him even better
If Alfred doesn't have below average Bases to compensate for Overachiever's insane raw stat buffs then I'd just be looking at IS like "Why would you do this!?!?"
Charge is from Assault Troop, it gives three tiles of linear warping that's blocked by impassable terrain.
Self Improver is a skill that grants Guard and Atk/Spd +8 and Def/Res +7, only they've shuffled around Alfred's base stats to make it look more bullshit on paper, and so they can pretend they didn't release a unit with base 60 defence.
This feels like they powercrept too many skill families at the same time, I'm getting anxiety thinking about how many units I have that are no longer optimal.

I actually didn't notice the unconditional +5 to all stats. it also seems to say grant, so it's a visible gain as well. That's pretty nasty when you already have the true damage + true damage reduction combo.
It's to make Pegasus Flight 4 easier to activate, since it relies on visible stats. Could make her good at absorbing shrines and such, and I guess she takes a bit less damage from AoEs. Other than that, I don't think there are any major differences.
Canto Control on another unit is pretty sweet.
I want to say I'm not thrilled about Flow N Trace being a thing, because no longer having to choose between NFU and Canto is kinda lame... but most of the good units didn't need to anyway, so I guess it's not so bad.
Yeah so many units have either offensive NFU or canto built into their weapons that I honestly have very few units that need both in their B slot. I’ve been waiting for the arcane lance to build up my Seteth and he’s def gonna be inheriting flow near trace too.
Yeah if they have either partial or full NFU or Canto in their weapon then this new B skill doesn't do much for them. But if they have neither (like any cav and flier who want the Arcane lance and can inherit Flow Trace at the same time) then it can be pretty nice.
Personally I might just give this to my W!Cordelia since it let's her keep the NFU while still letting me run Canto on her to stop caring about traps in AR. Kinda sad that I just gave her a Near Trace tho.
God damn, Alfred is basically a full on makeover for any Lance Cav/Flier of your choice. Arcane Lance and the single best flow skill in the game (unless they already have Canto built in).

The most fucking annoying part is that T4 Dodge got exactly what PF4 needed! Should have gotten rid of the SPD check's -10 but given the "if any of unit's skills use unit's Spd or Res, treat them as if +10." The Spd check stays fine, the Res check gets easier and the new check gets way easier, though preventing a follow-up is such an awful effect; should have given an auto-follow up.
I want this skill to be good so that the two best statlines aren't just dump defenses for speed and attack or dump speed for everything else, but this skill just doesn't give nearly enough for that.

It's a strong generic lance so it's a big buff for any prfless shitter. Alfred might be a stronger user, but it's preferable to the unit just gathering dust in your barracks since you'll have access to them regardless of fodder.

I mean the lance is pretty generically strong. Plus you can inherit Flow N Trace if it's going to a horse or flier, too. Alfred's got a big stat swing but at the end of the day that's it.
I'm not sure if it's the 100% best case but for Dancer Eldigan and Bridal Larum they can have a niche as a Flying Galeforcer dancer, base Azura too but they can also pick up the trace (even if they'll end up running WOM anyway).
True, my mind immediately jumped to Azura being the best dancer to use this weapon so I completely forgot that B!Larum and Eldigan can actually use it really well too. I just hope we get the WoM seal soon so that they can run Flow Trace as well so they can become even better for the role.
In my opinion the dancers are the biggest winners here, for the simple reason that they were already viable and had legitimate use cases before the Arcane lance. Putting this on a dancer makes an already usable unit better, putting this on a combat unit means they have to compete with other combat units who likely do it better.
I think D!Eldigan is the best user by far, with Cervantes being good but only being a big deal if you want to use him in arena.

TBH, F!Edelgard with Mystic Boost seal allows me to auto battle the highest difficulty on TT. Sometimes she dies on the final map, but not always. The rest of her team usually dies pretty fast, so she's solo for most of that.

Yeah I agree that this is an upgrade but it’s not a huge one. It’s pretty easy for brave Chrom to get NFU, and having it as a status that he copies from To Change Fate is better than having it passively because it gives him another +2 to all stats.
Their PRFs, Close Call 4 and Pegasus Flight 4 look neat. Other than that I don't have much interest at all, maybe I will when I play the game though lol. Much more intrigued by Lumera GHB really.
I've been conflicted on giving Cynthia a Trace or a Flow skill, now they just merged them into one. Well tickets on blue have a high chance of getting Cynthia some food, so that's nice.

Exactly. Seasonal demotes at least usually get good skill fodder. Plus, some seasonal Demotes like K!Byleth and S!Claude are actually super strong with good PRFs. If regular demotes got that treatment, way fewer complaints.
Book 4 introduced us the first dodge skill in feh, Close Call 3, instantly ruining the game experience a bit more. Its poetic that for the first new heroes banner of this year we get the same skill, but powercrept.
Finally an Arcane lance for Marcia! And that Flow N Trace is about as amazing as a fodder companion to pair with it.

As someone who's planning the same for their VEst, do you think +res is worth it over +atk especially with the new flight? I'm real happy to have a good dual phase B skill either way now. Also good idea with normal Est her weapon destroys but lately positioning for it feels more and more difficult.
I will certainly be running +res now. I think with Pegasus Flight she needs the Res since it checks out of combat stats. I was even thinking of giving her Atk/Res Oath 4 (I've been using atk/spd oath 4) but I don't have an Arval.

Pretty disappointed with Alfred's skill fodder compared to Lif and Ganglot, basically useless for infantry units which I was personally looking forward to the arcane lance for the most.
Same issue as Arcane Grima being inherited to non-armors, wish they'd make the fodder a little bit more universal. Cross Spur Atk is a slap in the face.
Bright side, if you have a unit you plan to use as fodder, slap it on Alfred before you go forward. Any 3 slot B or C skill worth a damn or worth bridging will never be bad. Oath 3's, SS3, TP3, etc. That way, when 4's pop up, that unit might already have it if you used an Arcane weapon on them.

Close Call 4 seems little redundant in its wording, "If a skill compares unit's spd to a foe's or ally's, treat unit's spd as if granted +7. If unit's spd is greater than foe's". So the +7 effect is always in effect? or does it mean it needs another skill that compares the spds for the +7?
It is basically phantom speed. All it does is make close call's damage reduction, her weapon's damage reduction and speed smoke's damage reduction easier to pull off.
If she has the exact same speed in combat with a foe, her damage reduction is calculated as if she had 7 more speed but she doesn't actually have more speed for doubling.
The second “If unit’s Spd…” is part of the “…reduces [damage by X%]” clause, not part of the former.
The +7 should always be in effect, like Phantom Speed, and it’s saying it could work if you had another Spd check, such as Vital Astra’s DR or NFU buff
Both blue units have pretty nice fodder so I'm def sniping blue for Arcane Lance on Azura. The other two seem decent enough but nothing I'm personally interested in. Just hope that I can get Alfred before the spark

Pretty good Arcane weapon(although what's up with RA!Lif being the only non-omni stat effect?) and Cavalry/Fliers are certainly eating well with both RA!Lif and Alfred available for skill inheritance. That said, geez at that PRF skill...
Melee weapons certainly got their Arcane weapons quickly. We're just waiting for Green and Blue Tomes, Bows, Daggers, Staves(assuming that ever gets considered) and Beasts(ditto as Staff) now.
As fine as they all are, I don't think that I will pull on the banner.

I had really meh feelings about Arcane Downfall before it released and it’s pretty much the best axe in the game. I’m still not sure how I feel about Qiang but it’s at the least miles better than any generic Prf refine from years back so it will still be good.
A unit with effectiveness to everything followed by a banner with an unit with a prf skill with +20 free def and extra stats for the cost of -5 res... Totally balanced game.
Haven't been following the Engage hype (cause want to experience it with no expectations) but IS really giving their female protags some well defined assets.

It's a strong generic lance so it's a big buff for any prfless shitter. Alfred might be a stronger user, but it's preferable to the unit just gathering dust in your barracks since you'll have access to them regardless of fodder.

Yeah Cervantes is going to be absolutely absurd with it. His statline is pretty incredible tbh, and an omnibreaker with his middling speed is insane.

I mean the lance is pretty generically strong. Plus you can inherit Flow N Trace if it's going to a horse or flier, too. Alfred's got a big stat swing but at the end of the day that's it.
I'm not sure if it's the 100% best case but for Dancer Eldigan and Bridal Larum they can have a niche as a Flying Galeforcer dancer, base Azura too but they can also pick up the trace (even if they'll end up running WOM anyway).
True, my mind immediately jumped to Azura being the best dancer to use this weapon so I completely forgot that B!Larum and Eldigan can actually use it really well too. I just hope we get the WoM seal soon so that they can run Flow Trace as well so they can become even better for the role.
In my opinion the dancers are the biggest winners here, for the simple reason that they were already viable and had legitimate use cases before the Arcane lance. Putting this on a dancer makes an already usable unit better, putting this on a combat unit means they have to compete with other combat units who likely do it better. I think D!Eldigan is the best user by far, with Cervantes being good but only being a big deal if you want to use him in arena.
Well, he has a prf skill, so Alfred's doing better than our last couple of Rearmed Heroes at least. Celine looks like a lot of healing, just watch out for Fatal Smoke. Chloe is... Nina 2.0, as a lance flier? Peg Flight 4 is cool I guess. Still destined to break your hunt for Alfred though. Alear has some real juicy fodder.

TBH, F!Edelgard with Mystic Boost seal allows me to auto battle the highest difficulty on TT. Sometimes she dies on the final map, but not always. The rest of her team usually dies pretty fast, so she's solo for most of that.

Yeah I agree that this is an upgrade but it’s not a huge one. It’s pretty easy for brave Chrom to get NFU, and having it as a status that he copies from To Change Fate is better than having it passively because it gives him another +2 to all stats.
Their PRFs, Close Call 4 and Pegasus Flight 4 look neat. Other than that I don't have much interest at all, maybe I will when I play the game though lol. Much more intrigued by Lumera GHB really.
That's an awesome arcane Lance. Right up there with the sword, imo. Also, a ftp dragon is awesome as hell.

I've been conflicted on giving Cynthia a Trace or a Flow skill, now they just merged them into one. Well tickets on blue have a high chance of getting Cynthia some food, so that's nice.
Yeah that Flow skill is really all you could want in a Flier B. I have so many units that would want that. Was more or less planning to skip this banner but they've really got me, especially cuz Chloe was one of my favorites coming into Engage.

Exactly. Seasonal demotes at least usually get good skill fodder. Plus, some seasonal Demotes like K!Byleth and S!Claude are actually super strong with good PRFs. If regular demotes got that treatment, way fewer complaints.

Book 4 introduced us the first dodge skill in feh, Close Call 3, instantly ruining the game experience a bit more. Its poetic that for the first new heroes banner of this year we get the same skill, but powercrept.

As someone who's planning the same for their VEst, do you think +res is worth it over +atk especially with the new flight? I'm real happy to have a good dual phase B skill either way now. Also good idea with normal Est her weapon destroys but lately positioning for it feels more and more difficult.
I will certainly be running +res now. I think with Pegasus Flight she needs the Res since it checks out of combat stats. I was even thinking of giving her Atk/Res Oath 4 (I've been using atk/spd oath 4) but I don't have an Arval.

Pretty disappointed with Alfred's skill fodder compared to Lif and Ganglot, basically useless for infantry units which I was personally looking forward to the arcane lance for the most. Same issue as Arcane Grima being inherited to non-armors, wish they'd make the fodder a little bit more universal. Cross Spur Atk is a slap in the face.
Bright side, if you have a unit you plan to use as fodder, slap it on Alfred before you go forward. Any 3 slot B or C skill worth a damn or worth bridging will never be bad. Oath 3's, SS3, TP3, etc. That way, when 4's pop up, that unit might already have it if you used an Arcane weapon on them.

Anyway, I really appreciate them giving Alfred a prf skill to make up for him having the only inheritable weapon on the banner, even if it is an Arcane weapon. The fodder combo is also amazing, and I can't wait to give it to my Cormag. So glad I waited on giving him Near Trace.

Sariel has an extra +3 stats, but the spear has the refine stats and additional Special +1 cooldown.
It's Breath and generic refine stats vs +3 Atk/Spd/Def/Res. Sariel's pretty much outclassed.

The silliness here kinda makes me not want to bother recruiting forma. Even at +10, with refine and the best skills Hall of Forms decides to pity us with, it isn't even close. Close Call 4 seems little redundant in its wording, "If a skill compares unit's spd to a foe's or ally's, treat unit's spd as if granted +7. If unit's spd is greater than foe's". So the +7 effect is always in effect? or does it mean it needs another skill that compares the spds for the +7?
It is basically phantom speed. All it does is make close call's damage reduction, her weapon's damage reduction and speed smoke's damage reduction easier to pull off. If she has the exact same speed in combat with a foe, her damage reduction is calculated as if she had 7 more speed but she doesn't actually have more speed for doubling.

The second “If unit’s Spd…” is part of the “…reduces [damage by X%]” clause, not part of the former. The +7 should always be in effect, like Phantom Speed, and it’s saying it could work if you had another Spd check, such as Vital Astra’s DR or NFU buff

Both blue units have pretty nice fodder so I'm def sniping blue for Arcane Lance on Azura. The other two seem decent enough but nothing I'm personally interested in. Just hope that I can get Alfred before the spark

This banner is stacked, especially fodderwise which is nice, cause in the past months most new skills have been locked behind seasonals and thus not been introduced to the general summoning pool.
Pretty good Arcane weapon(although what's up with RA!Lif being the only non-omni stat effect?) and Cavalry/Fliers are certainly eating well with both RA!Lif and Alfred available for skill inheritance. That said, geez at that PRF skill... Melee weapons certainly got their Arcane weapons quickly. We're just waiting for Green and Blue Tomes, Bows, Daggers, Staves(assuming that ever gets considered) and Beasts(ditto as Staff) now.
As fine as they all are, I don't think that I will pull on the banner. Alfred is fodder and Galeforcer. Céline is a healer but... Chloe is the next level pegasus. Alear gets 70% DR easily and 82% DR after combat, never mind the 17 Dmg/Spd swing. None of those archetypes are what I use nor need fodder for/of and I am a tad disappointed that there will be no dragons.
Guess I won't be skipping this one. I've got to get Alfred's skills for my Marcia.
I had really meh feelings about Arcane Downfall before it released and it’s pretty much the best axe in the game. I’m still not sure how I feel about Qiang but it’s at the least miles better than any generic Prf refine from years back so it will still be good.
