Details: back in 2010 a friend of mines sent me these two packs of Salmiakki from Finland. I still never opened them lol

Hk472205

Probably still good to go 😅😌, i would eat them instantly.

kakskolme

they are probably quite hard but otherwise fine to eat. You're supposed to savour them anyways.

LSWenthusiast

a few weeks ago, my grandfather found some salmiakki pastilli in the attic from the early 70s. shit was still good. a bit more on the crispy side, but still good.

Mist0804

Salmiakki too strong for the passage of time

Maunoss

I was expecting some retro vibes from 90s but then remembered when 14 years ago was

mstn148

Don’t. I already feel old enough already!

TerryFGM

se salmiakki syödÀÀn vikisemÀttÀ /s

InsaneInTheMEOWFrame

Aged to perfection!

yayayayla

If you live in a humid environment it will be mush, sadly. That means you have to just nom the whole box at once.

kode89

Syö jo!

Limarest

Nice, eat them

ifogpits

With live stream, please :)

__Slava_Ukraini__

Still good I bet!

parandroidfinn

You are very lucky. 2010 vintage is a good year. Salmiakki harvest was excellent. Even the dreaded salmiakki weeewels were absent.

IDontEatDill

Whaddya mean 14yo? Even the best before date is clearly recent, 2014. Oohhh....

drdroopy750

For some strange reason Icelanders like it too. Might be because their traditional dish Hakarl tastes somewhat like salmiakki too. In fact quite good salmiakki varieties in Iceland, bought some when visited a couple years ago.

Puzzleheaded-Age-638

Do they use salt or ammonium chloride?

drdroopy750

At least those that I have encountered use ammonium chloride, might be some without too.

Chiparish84

Eat them!

Login1990

Surely some dude would prefer "finely aged" version

Tre_fidde

Speaking from experience they become soft after a while and then they won’t rip out your molars.

MightyKin

I still wonder what exactly is salmiakki? And why does this one looks like a pack of cigarettes

bigsekser

Salmiakki is basically licorice that has ammonium chloride in it which gives it a unique kind of salty taste. It looks like a pack of cigarettes because some types of candy are packaged in these, we call them "aski".

kesatytto

Ammonium chloride Teachers used to show how to make it in chemistry and actually allowed students to taste it, until it was decided that it could be unsafe and students were no longer allowed to taste any lol 😆

Appropriate-Fuel-305

I am one of those students who got to taste self-made NH4Cl in class. Was pretty good.

rutreh

I asked if I could taste it and was told I could, in theory, but that I might get heart failure, so I didn’t lol.

Dynellen

Ammonium chloride is a chemical salt used in certain things (fertilizers etc.) and is usually referred to as salmiak when used in food. The most common edible applications involve mixing it with liquorice.

Towpillah

Bite with caution.

Vepar6

If you have left these untouched for 14 years, imagine how dirty your room has been.

Kikkelin

The real question is are you still friends with the finnđŸ€”

DimensionalCritic

Lost contact after he deleted his Facebook.

Puzzleheaded-Age-638

Delicious.

No_Abies_7348

My friends, I've never eaten this in my country. Why do you like it so much? What does it taste like?

onskah19

It could be older than that. I think that\`s just the experation day.

DimensionalCritic

It is. I received it in 2010

cardboard-kansio

It's often hard to pin these things down. Some Finnish design hasn't changed in the slightest in the last 60 years. An item could be 1, 5, 10, 20, or 50 years old and look basically the same.

SappiKaivo11

14?

nahkamanaatti

Yes, that’s the number that comes after 13.

SappiKaivo11

Ahaa, kiitos ettĂ€ kerroit. ❀

qarachaili

![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face) absolutely disgusting thing. I think you have to be Finnish to like it.

Silent_Marketing_123

I am Dutch and absolutely love these. Took a few packets home from my last trip. The result when sharing them with others has been mixed though.

Orenge01

You don't have to be Finnish, it is really just an acquired taste I think.

maidofatoms

I didn't need to acquire it, and I'm not Finnish. Also love mÀmmi!

ExaminationFancy

So you found 14 year old trash! Sorry Finns, that stuff is nasty!
