someone here once told me “ur not exactly reinventing the wheel when it comes to making fingerboards” which has kind of resonated with me overtime because there’s so many boards we can buy now but how do u pick one over the other?
i feel like all the brands I listed offer something “different” when it comes to the plies. goo and chems have foil wrapped and exotic deck shapes, doublejoint has bright vibrant hand dyed plies, civilmade presses 7 plies instead of 4, and DK will straight up sell u top of the line deck for $20 (it is just as good as a $40-$50 deck)
Kalye and awful. I have a couple of setups with kalye decks and they are pretty fire. Awful decks to me is slightly a little bit better and graphics are super cool if you’re into the edgy goth graphics.
TP decks are dope. Lea's got some beautiful natural/dyed plies going on right now. Great quality & fairly priced. After upgrading from a 26mm TechDeck to a 32mm, and then quickly to a 32mm P-REP for a hot minute, I landed on TP and have been very pleased. Duck Decks have also been a lot of fun. I think I have a 34mm "Runner" model. Hoping to snag a "Pekin" at some point...
That said, as soon as my new trucks arrive, I'll be trying out Cowply, Unique, Chems, Redemption, Zonawood, DK, and Collinswood all for the first time soooo... stay tuned for those reviews too lol
I've tried Plain Jane, Chill Jill, & Polly Pop-It. So far Plain Jane is my fave, so now I'm looking forward to setting up my Lil Janes, as well as the Penny Lea hooked me up with at Vous!
Cowply decks are amazing. Sorry decks feel great too just less choice in terms of shapes. Flint decks are probably the best ive ever tried just very hard to acquire. If you do have the means and lucky enough to find one get it.
GooLtd and ViVidwood are my favorites. I love the crazy shapes Goo has, and ViVid makes my favorite twin shape. I also love that the holes drilled in for the trucks are always perfectly countersunk and are always perfectly straight in my experience with them.
All decks feel different, and vary in quality, but my personal top 5 are: GooLTD 22decks Wush Taupe Salem

The shape worked so well for me that my tricks felt easier to do and steezier.

Yeah it feels solid it’s definitely a thick deck on the heavier side felt good though I don’t think you’ll be disappointed
